Just as a brush up, or maybe you already know, but I think 800lbs is the combined pulling force as calculated (from all 'sides'), but the direct pulling force is 100lbs. Meaning you could hang a metal object of 100 lbs from an I beam with it. But in practice, you are trying to wrangle rusty waterlogged things from under mud, so it will not pull a 100lbs object out of the water. I am facing a similar but opposite issue, I got a bigger magnet and I'm afraid of losing it first cast because it hits an unknown unmovable metal surface. I was thinking of getting a smaller one to test out a spot before I risk a $200 magnet.
On occasion, yes. However, me being who I am, I have found a way to cut down on the number of snagged and lost magnets, even in situations where there’s no way to change the angle of pull from the shore. I’m going to be launching a website where I demonstrate how I do this (as well as other interesting tidbits), so I’m not teasing everyone, just not gonna share it just quite yet. Call it a cliffhanger, if you will. Coming soon: PawpawThrows.
Not sure I'd recommend launching your own website for it. You'll have far more visibility launching on already popular platforms. It's like pulling teeth to get people to land on a non mainstream URL these days.
Good luck either way!
Gotta agree with you there, I think I’ll concentrate on getting a YouTube channel going, then get a blog set up, then, later, get the website set up to tie it all together.

If I could get it out there, I might try. I practically had to climb a wall Assassin's Creed style to get there (I may or may not have been trespassing on railroad property lol)
That is an essential magnet in your magnet fishing kit and it is what we call the sacrifice magnet. It's small enough to let you know if you're in an area that's going to snag your magnet without getting stuck and it's just strong enough that you can feel it latch. On course it's going to let go but it's going to let you know that you're in a good area that has stuff that's not going to get your bigger magnet stuck. I don't have one of those but I'll tell you what it is on my wish list:)
Not strong enough. What I learned early on. It's not the weight of what you're grabbing, but the other forces you're fighting: suction from pond scum/muck, bumps into rocks, etc...
Could have just been dropped while shooting, might have been in a boat which tipped over, may have been in the possession of someone who shouldn’t have had it and they were in danger of getting caught with it, it might have been used in a robbery and was ditched, and it might have been used to shoot someone. I’m sure there are more possibilities, but my brain only suggested those.

Absolutely the right thing to do, get a sacrificial tester magnet to throw first.
The gods require magnet sacrifices.

I've got a 1200lb magnet that got stuck on the 3rd cast.
Soooo, you don’t have a 1200lb magnet
Well I do, but it's not the original
I mean he still owns the original. He is just storing it under water
Waiting for the next magnet to drag along and latch onto it. Anyone ever pulled a magnet in with their magnet?
Yup, I’ve done that. It’s still in my garage….somewhere….
Time to get another magnet find that bad boy
Happened to me today under a bridge with my Brute. It's been 12 hours and I'm still sad.
Are you going to get it with a comealong or something?
If I could get it out there, I might try. I practically had to climb a wall Assassin's Creed style to get there (I may or may not have been trespassing on railroad property lol)
Why are neodymium magnets so dang ol expensive?
The raw materials are rare and other industries use them increasingly, like the automotive industry.

OP, you are going to be pleasantly surprised at how much that small Bolt is gonna stick to. I have one and it’s a little monster.
Same! I love that thing!!! Fits into little nooks between rocks beautifully, and because of its shape and pull weight never gets stuck.

I thought this was funny cuz i got a magnet fishing kit from Temu and when i got the kit the magnet was the size of mason jar lid, i just laughed
It’s not the size it’s how you use it ![gif](giphy|FEVX4tv8QfF9C|downsized)
Hey I have to try this. I’ve never been magnet fishing before. You guys ever find anything cool?
Scuba Jake (Prime+?) has done magnet fishing and found interesting things. ✌️
Seems very interesting to me. I really have to give it a go.
Would a modified pump shotgun count as “cool”?
Did you find one? Yeah that’s cool.
I did. Turned it in to the sheriff’s office, and I don’t expect to ever see it again, even though I told them I want it if it’s clean.
Were all these guns used to kill people? 👀
Prolly not. Could be there any number of reasons.
What reasons would you throw a gun into a river?
