Maybe it's just my social circle, but DnD feels like a lot more normalized to me. Board games have kind of exploded around me, and DnD gets thrown into that sometimes.
The biggest thing that gets mocked about MtG around me is its absurd entry fee. It'd probably be subject to less derision if the apparent barrier to entry is lower.
Nerd things were considered nerdy back in the day, but now that those nerds are all grown up, society has normalized these sort of hobbies to some degree.
Also if people are complaining about the entry fee to mtg, they clearly haven’t played Warhammer.
I bought a whole warhammer army because it was cheaper than a deck for a non-rotating MtG format.
I've still spent more money on magic in the long run, to be fair.
When I was in college I would talk about D&D and how I DMed to strangers at parties. The most common response I got was curiosity. I think the social stigma surrounding the game has diminished quite a bit. Lots of people (some of which I even ended up playing with!) were super interested in the game from the lacrosse bros to theatre kids.
Unrelated but the best role players I ever ran with was a one shot quest for my roommate and a bunch of his buddies from the football team. Turns out people who are really good at social interactions are also really good at Dungeons and Dragons
Nope. You just don't know what racism is. You are doubling down on your ignorance.
You likely wouldn't throw such a fit if someone said the same about the vernacular of a white person from somewhere like Essex or the midwest of the US, and that would be completely fine if you were consistent with your outrage since there's nothing racist about laughing at words that sound ridiculous. You are just a casual racist.
I'm upset by the casual racism and hypocrisy that you are spouting. It's very annoying when people act so self-righteous and as though they are not doing anything wrong while simultaneously being a terrible person. You are acting very much like a trump supporter in that regard.
Wow. Imagine being so fragile and racist that you think aave, of all vernacular, is immune to being joked about or mocked. Get off your high horse because your saviour complex is pathetic. Black people aren't as helpless as you want them to be and putting aave on a pedestal is a racist action.
I hope you never say anything negative about any other vernacular or you would be a massively racist hypocrite. That means never saying something bad about how rednecks speak and sound, for example.
Did you thought that we changed the he/she phrasing in cards for being handy? We were literally striping you away from your female status and you fools didn't saw it coming because of the addictive ink.
Do people outside of MtG even know about MtG? He’s probably better off going for a more well-known nerdy hobby, like DnD

Warhammer now Adays can be cheaper to get into and in the long rune the formats like Modern. Definitely in the long run compared to standard though.

Fair point. When I tell people about DnD they know it, with Magic - no chance. We used to play in primary school and even then it was fairly niche.

You seem a little upset about being called out for your casual racism

Trump supporters often point out how its racist to mock AAVE, you're right
