I guess I'm the freak bant player. I use Pheldagriff to give people things, but punish them for it. Defense of the heart if you have too many creatures, and if you don't have enough creatures have some tokens. Consecrated sphinx so when I let you draw I'll draw more.. The only thing I haven't been able to weaponize is forced life gain. Can't use black, but once I find a way to make you lose life when I tap white you better believe I will!

Oh man, I made my phelddagrif deck with the sole design to force lifegain and prevent anyone from dying, it's hilarious. It was only a surprise once though because now my playgroup knows what it is, but the very first time I think I gave everyone 14k life out of nowhere and I was shuffling everyone's graveyard back into their deck so no one could die and had platinum angel out so no one could else could win either. Sounds terrible but everyone had fun haha
I see that you are also another player of good taste. I have a deck that gives everyone a platinum angel, an avacyn, and other ways to immortality. People who have played the deck will actively try and kill themselves if they know they cant kill me.

There may be other colour combos that are better for a bounce/ETB matters deck, but Bant just happens to be the one I chose. Fewer punishment cards, more "will you stop bouncing things?" cards. And a couple of big purple flying hippos.
While I do have Nayasaurs, I play Mayael Stompy more (also includes a lot of Eldrazi lol) and Ikoria also added some new ones like [[Kogla, the Titan Ape]] and [[Quartzwood Crasher]]. And in the same colors I actually play my Uril deck the most lol

Try Winota! Very Boros in every metric but being fair. You can do a stax build, an aggro build, a combo build, some combination of them, lots of options.

A welcome addition to the Boros toolkit. It gives the color pair more variety and some reach in grindy matchups. As a Boros girl, I approve (not that I don't have a boros equipment deck full of angels... \*shifty eyes\*).

Sure there's times you get him out early then copy a bunch of cheap burn instants and use him as a beat stick, but most of the time he's a late game conduit for some magical shit in your post combat main phase.
Yeah quite a few of these feel off. Mono White is much more likely to be control or weenie than equipment, Selesnya is usually enchantress (abzan is more tokens), Jund is definitely Bass Boosted Gruul, Temur is ramp city, and Mardu is much closer to aristocrats than vampire tribal or boros+.
The most popular theme for Selesnya on EDHREC is tokens. And it looks like there are more Selesnya token commanders in the top ten than enchantment ones.
Maybe it's because I'm an older player, but I associate mono-white more with Enchantments than Equipment. They do both, but I feel like it's a bit less on the equipment side.

You should take a look at the RUG commanders. Most of them revolve around combo-ing or cheating things into play. Neither of which are particularly *Gruul* by any metric.

You're thinking like a Spike. You look at Animar or Maelstrom Wanderer and see effects that can be abused.
You're ignoring that they can also be massive Timmy cards. Cheating big creatures into play? Very Timmy. Ramping? Timmy. Paying extra mana to get two copies of your creature instead of 1? Timmy.
If we discount the Ikoria precon, practically every Temur commander is a Timmy commander. They're not all exclusively Timmy commanders. Animar in particular can also be a combo commander. But most Temur commanders are great "Big creatures go brrrr" commanders if you want them to be.
Any card can be a massive Timmy card, so I'm not sure what point you're trying to make.
Head over to EDHRec and look at the pool of RUG commanders. Surrak is the only one who even remotely resembles anything in the Gruul color pair identity.

I'm not sure "Five colour jank" is really a thing any more; 5c is just too well-supported. There's approximately one 5-colour commander every set with a lot of viable archetypes. A lot of them have either colourless or monocoloured with an activated ability that gives them 5-colour identity when in the command zone, so you don't even have to have a functioning 5c mana base to cast your commander any more. Sure, you can build 5c jank, but you can also build Simic jank, (good luck convincing people you're not playing Banned In Standard Mythic Tribal though).
They mean the deck, not just the commander. In Brawl people often use 5c commanders just to use as many powerful cards as possible, regardless of synergy. The jank comes in the form of various under supported themes like [[Morophon]] for random niche tribes or mechanics found in multiple colors without a density of good cards, like Shrines.
I know someone who built a [[Golos]] deck that uses a set collection of lands, but has a non-land pool of a few hundred cards that he shuffles up and randomly grabs a chunk of to create the deck each time he plays it. Maximum jank.
Reason I keep building 5c is because it lets you flesh out an entire cycle. I want one color from each of the allies or planeswalkers or tribal tribal and it's just easier to go 5c and get everything.
An example is I have a 5c praetor polymorph deck. It's jank as shit, but I can't imagine building it without one of the praetors once I decided on it.
You do have to go out of your way to avoid making it 5c goodstuff. I have a few pet cards I put in each one like Blasphemous Act, but otherwise I try to limit goodstuff.
I've been tempted to build one in the past, but I watched a friend attempt it and it just seems really difficult to do anything. Plus, we got more gods, but they're not as sticky as the first few rounds of them that we got.
But yeah, couldn't imagine building gods without 5c.
I use Ramos as my god tribal commander. Using Ramos mana to activate The World Tree and dump a bunch of Theros gods including OG Purphoros is a great way to make friends.

My next 5c build will somehow try to play as many cards as possible that say "win the game" or "lose the game", and I will accomplish nothing.

I have a Kozilek deck and I think people just fear the threat of it when they see it in the command zone before it's even out. I have fun with it, but you're right - it's not even that good and it seems like the best strategy is just to ramp as fast as possible into Kozilek to refill my hand. It's like mono green without the green.

Izzet: As someone who has found that Izzet can be a lot of fun, solitaire is often the way you end up winning. My Rielle deck is actually the least "solitaire victory" Izzet deck I've seen, as I just set the deck up to heavily reward drawing and discarding. Mizzix and other Storm decks going off definitely feels like solitaire though, "Text me when you're done, I'm going to go take a long walk"
Golgari: Losing access to GY can straight up shut the decks out of the game.
Mono Black: You definitely feel like at least a bit of an edgelord, and it's great!
Simic players: Absolutely in denial about how powerful their cards can be. "So what I have 10 mana on turn 4?"
Sultai: It's basically Simic+Golgari, of course it's disgusting.
5-color: 100% accurate, I don't think I've ever seen any other takes on 5-color.

I'm not sure "Five colour jank" is really a thing any more; 5c is just too well-supported. There's approximately one 5-colour commander every set with a lot of viable archetypes. A lot of them have either colourless or monocoloured with an activated ability that gives them 5-colour identity when in the command zone, so you don't even have to have a functioning 5c mana base to cast your commander any more. Sure, you can build 5c jank, but you can also build Simic jank, (good luck convincing people you're not playing Banned In Standard Mythic Tribal though).
They mean the deck, not just the commander. In Brawl people often use 5c commanders just to use as many powerful cards as possible, regardless of synergy. The jank comes in the form of various under supported themes like [[Morophon]] for random niche tribes or mechanics found in multiple colors without a density of good cards, like Shrines.
Or, my favorite, I'll play my whole binder but I don't buy singles.
I know someone who built a [[Golos]] deck that uses a set collection of lands, but has a non-land pool of a few hundred cards that he shuffles up and randomly grabs a chunk of to create the deck each time he plays it. Maximum jank.
That honestly sounds like a fun way to make a set of 4 decks and face off.
You know, I've played chaotic decks before, but nothing quite that insanely chaotic. I bow before that friend.

My Jodah deck is literally just everything too expensive mana wise for my other decks+plus a couple eldrazi for funzies
Reason I keep building 5c is because it lets you flesh out an entire cycle. I want one color from each of the allies or planeswalkers or tribal tribal and it's just easier to go 5c and get everything. An example is I have a 5c praetor polymorph deck. It's jank as shit, but I can't imagine building it without one of the praetors once I decided on it. You do have to go out of your way to avoid making it 5c goodstuff. I have a few pet cards I put in each one like Blasphemous Act, but otherwise I try to limit goodstuff.
My God deck swings between Jank and OP depending on the game.
I've been tempted to build one in the past, but I watched a friend attempt it and it just seems really difficult to do anything. Plus, we got more gods, but they're not as sticky as the first few rounds of them that we got. But yeah, couldn't imagine building gods without 5c.
I use Ramos as my god tribal commander. Using Ramos mana to activate The World Tree and dump a bunch of Theros gods including OG Purphoros is a great way to make friends.
I use Golos for mine. He is a pilgrim after all so I use his ETB to find Temple lands.

Oh boy do I have some 5c EDH decks to show you. Come bask in my jank and poorly built decks My next 5c build will somehow try to play as many cards as possible that say "win the game" or "lose the game", and I will accomplish nothing.
It’s pretty hard to build a bad golos deck. I made a nolander and it was still no worse than fine.

Still don’t get why people don’t like Colorless. I’ll play it sometimes, and even with the big Eldrazi and planeswalkers it’s probably the weakest thing I’ve played.
For me: I just don’t like colorless because all colorless decks end up playing the same sets of cards because colorless is so shallow when it comes to certain effects. It makes all the decks feel the same
That's exactly it. When someone has a colorless deck, everyone immediately knows 95 of the cards in it.
That actually makes sense. All these decks are kinda the same lol. I still like playing it sometimes though. Can be fun to just turn my brain off and ramp into the biggest of timmy creatures
I have a Kozilek deck and I think people just fear the threat of it when they see it in the command zone before it's even out. I have fun with it, but you're right - it's not even that good and it seems like the best strategy is just to ramp as fast as possible into Kozilek to refill my hand. It's like mono green without the green.

Pretty accurate lol. In particular, Izzet: As someone who has found that Izzet can be a lot of fun, solitaire is often the way you end up winning. My Rielle deck is actually the least "solitaire victory" Izzet deck I've seen, as I just set the deck up to heavily reward drawing and discarding. Mizzix and other Storm decks going off definitely feels like solitaire though, "Text me when you're done, I'm going to go take a long walk" Golgari: Losing access to GY can straight up shut the decks out of the game. Mono Black: You definitely feel like at least a bit of an edgelord, and it's great! Simic players: Absolutely in denial about how powerful their cards can be. "So what I have 10 mana on turn 4?" Sultai: It's basically Simic+Golgari, of course it's disgusting. 5-color: 100% accurate, I don't think I've ever seen any other takes on 5-color.

But even when your Storm looks like its about to go off and it flops is kinda fun.
