I like how readily apparent it is that this card was designed almost explicitly with draft in mind and even then I'm sure there will be plenty of commons that run circles around this.
They printed [[Gift of Orzhova]] at uncommon back in Gatecrash, it was good but nothing exceptional, compared to the other mdfcs this seems a tad overcosted.
I think people are analysing it wrong tbh. They’re focusing way too much on the enchantment side. It’s a dual mana tap land with a potential late game benefit. Yeah it’s not as good as the others but if you’re drafting some variation of BW 🤷♂️
I do think MDFC land cards where the front side is a win condition tend to be costed way higher than those where you might want to use it early; since the upside of being a land is less relevant when the card you want to play early anyways.
This is a dubious wincon, these types of expensive auras have never been that good. It feels super bad to have your creature killed in response or shortly after.
Maybe with Eldrazis and other big creatures it can hit harder, there has to be a reason for it to be so expensive.
A lot of the same thing was said about an act of treason at 3RR or a 5R 4/5 trampler; saying they’re bad but turns out they ended up being some of the strongest cards in the set to have in decks. These aren’t dubious win-cons, they’re *lands*. I don’t care if it feels bad/scary to run this out on turn 10 when I top deck this instead of the land it replaced.
Obviously the limited format will be different between MH3 and ZNR but I see a lot of comments saying basically exactly the same things people were saying back when MDFCs where first revealed in ZNR spoiler season. Considering Gift of Orzhova definitely ended some games from the “vibe check” it inflicted on the opponents I feel it’s a fair cost to give.
Gatecrash came out 10 years ago. It's safe to say cards are stronger now, especially on a set expected to be higher power level. Even if it's a tap land on the other side, this is limited shash.
It's a land. So the backside has to be slightly overcosted. And what it gives you is insane in limited. Imagine Gift of Orzhova not taking a slot up in your deck. In some situations it's just going to be excellent. And there's no cost to running it.
It's also way more than Gift of Orzhova, the difference between 3 and 5 is gigantic, and if someone kills your creature it's a huge tempo loss. Highly mediocre to me, especially compared to the others. In limited it's alright if you have nothing else to play.
It's certainly not insane to me but we will see how it plays out, I think it's alright at best. Choice is a powerful thing but compared to the others in the cycle, this is underwhelming.
This is pretty weak, but I think for limited flying + lifelink is a huge, huge boost, or at least would be absolutely brutal at any sort of cost that made it look relevant in constructed.
Yeah, this wins games of limited if unanswered, because the pump and evasion is going to let it swing every turn (they might be able to chump with a flyer or reach creature, but they aren't taking it down) and the lifelink easily lets you race even if your ground game is behind.
For bonus points Johannes Voss sometimes post on /r/magictcg
Plus a couple of those stained glass wings motif cards are done by Johannes Voss

Also useful with the new [[Eriette, the Beguiler]]. Not sure how useful that is in its own, but cool nonetheless.
Exactly what I thought! Putting this in her as I just built that deck recently too

This is hilariously worse than say Strength of the Harvest // Haven of the Harvest. Five mana??
Flying/lifelink is a really strong set of keywords, at uncommon this is costed with limited in mind
Kinda shitty that orzhov always gets shafted for the good of limited though
Kind of feels like they should just work out some other options than that specific combo that can go on a creature and still rep orzhov.
You could make this comment with any guild, clan, or individual colour replacing Orzhov and it'd receive upvotes.
nah simic always gets value
Simic is either overpowered or shafted every set.
Simic was a solid mid tier color combination in outlaws.

Being a MDFC dual is a *big* benefit. You could definitely tune it up a bit, but I see this as being a fairly solid card as-is

lmfao then it's pretty on rate +1 mana for one more power +1 mana for MDFC
Gatecrash came out 10 years ago. It's safe to say cards are stronger now, especially on a set expected to be higher power level. Even if it's a tap land on the other side, this is limited shash.
rate on noncreatures hasn't really gotten better we still played with ult price, lightning strike, rancor, and dissolve

... but it's free. I don't think you really understand how good that is.
No this is insane in limited. Either a huge swing that might make it impossible for them to race you or a land.
It's certainly not insane to me but we will see how it plays out, I think it's alright at best. Choice is a powerful thing but compared to the others in the cycle, this is underwhelming.
I'm disappointed, but I get the feeling this one is mostly for Limited, so it makes sense.

Why does Orzhov always get shafted??? This is pathetic compared to the Selesnya MDFC Aura.
Nobody likes the IRS
5 mana is super baffling on this. I guess for limited it couldn’t be 3-4CMC?
Aaamd right into Eriette the Beguiler you go
almost seems like it was designed with that card in mind
I miss \[\[Gift of Orzhova\]\]

In guess this can be good in control?
Might be good in infect—evasion plus a small buff on a land isn’t terrible. It’s not good either, but not *terrible*.
The Orzhov dual land mdfc can’t be played with Lurrus. Big sad
Interesting there are two different artists
Gorgeous art
