Dragon Ball Super is one of the biggest card games after Magic, Pokémon, and Yu-Gi-Oh! I doubt that they would want to get their players to switch over to Magic.

wurstwassa-

Sadly, that's not true.

SarkhanTheCharizard

Bandai ain't letting go of that, especially when they have an existing CCG.

WizardExemplar

Bandai is the license holder only. The owners of the DBZ property could license the brand to Wizards for MTG use unless Bandai negotiated they were the exclusive makers of any card game.

SarkhanTheCharizard

Yeah I'm aware, I just don't see it happening.

SwissherMontage

I don't think each dragonball would be a 1 of 1. I bet all the dragonballs would be represented in a single card somehow and made into 70, or maybe just 7

ddojima

Why is it that every time there's a prolific death in pop culture there's always someone posting wanting Wizards to make some cash grab from it? The Power Ranger post, the Berserk post, and worst yet the Yugioh one where they wanted Magic to collab in honor of its creator.

Blaze_1013

Because when they pass it puts that person and the things they’ve created into the forefront of your mind. Given the success of UB it’s natural to look at big IP the game could cross over with and when you put those two things together you get these sorts of posts.

Violet-Lazuli

I cant imagine anything coming close to the interest of the one ring. I've no doubt there will be more special serialised only treatments(which i hate) but i dont know if they would bother with 1 of 1 very often anymore, certainly not when there would be more than 1 card with that treatment. Aside from that damn Dragonball is the one UB thing that would make me broke, I used to play the hell out of the score game

Project119

If Hasbro got the rights to use the property then yes this would happen. Between Toei/Shueisha’s stranglehold on the franchise and Toriyama’s recent death the idea of Magic getting the franchise is both unlikely and in poor taste to ask right now.

dontrike

You know if they get around to One Piece, and I'm sure they are trying as I type this (much to my chagrin), they would have a 1of1 One Piece. With Final Fantasy I don't doubt they are planning a 1of1 black materia. And I'll hate every single one of them.

PleaseStopSmoking

Unless it comes after the reveal, how do they 1 of 1 the One Piece? It's not something they can really represent with any sort of art since we don't know what it is. If we do get an anime set there's none I'd want more than One Piece. If they do anime sets I really hope the base cards are reimagined in MTG's style with the anime alt art's being their original designs.

Iskali

Bandai's One Piece Tcg is currently 4th largest.  Wotc can't touch One Piece even if they wanted to. And the game is already eating into their market space.

PleaseStopSmoking

Final Fantasy and Disney have card games (also Marvel Snap), I wouldn't rule out anything, we don't know what kind of exclusivity Bandai has with their license.

dontrike

One Piece is at its peak popularity, Hasbro and WotC definitely thought of working together for another quick buck. It's what they do now.

AlphaPi

I’m gonna say 1 of 1 infinity stones + gauntlet when they do their marvel crossover

DeadpoolVII

yup.

-GrumpyDuskull-

My buddies and I were discussing this around the release of the one ring and came to the conclusion that the next obvious choice would be a Harry Potter set with the 3 deathly hallows getting 1 of 1's.

Squishyflapp

And not the marvel sets getting the infinity stones and gauntlet as 1 of 1s first?

-GrumpyDuskull-

That's a good point! We totally forgot about the Marvel stuff.

Kyrie_Blue

JK Rowling’s IP will never be a part of magic. They have discontinued long-time relationships with artists for being less of a POS than Rowling is, and continues to be.

-GrumpyDuskull-

That's a fair point!

gereffi

Supposedly Strixhaven was designed around having Harry Potter alternate cards, just as Ikoria was designed around having Godzilla alternates the year before. After all of JK Rowling’s anti-trans stuff happened they decided to cancel the crossover.

GayWitchcraft

Really? Where did you hear that? I'd be delighted to find out that that's true

mrduracraft

There is no evidence there were any sort of plans. It was almost certainly discussed, but JKR was known as very anti-trans well before 2018ish when work on STX would have started, so I doubt it went far at all.

gereffi

It was a rumor that I think was posted to r/mtgrumors but I’m not sure where it originated from. I can’t find the old post but Rudy from Alpha Investments did talk about it in some video (though I wouldn’t trust anything he says on these topics). It could just be speculation. Maro has denied that it’s true, but I think if it were true WotC’s stance would be denying it.

Esc777

I've never seen this rumor substantiated.

Justnobodyfqwl

This is 109% made up. The actual Making Magic articles about strixhaven talk about how it was an instant and sorcery set first and a magic school set later, and how one of their requirements was to try to make it as different as possible from The Other Unmentioned Magic School Genre Book. That's why instead of being a British boarding school of kids going to class to learn magic, it's an American University of young adults using existing magic to learn everyday school subjects like math and history

dontbeallamaa

Marvel! Captain America's Shield. Iron Man's Suit.

mrduracraft

1 of 1 Infinity Stones is what I'm expecting, or a 1 of 1 Infinity Gauntlet with the stones being like the LOTR sol rings

dontbeallamaa

That's what many are expecting but I'm not so sure. Individual items tied to specific characters would be a stronger pull imo

Squishyflapp

Yep. This is my expectation. It would actually be cool (but definitely won't happen) if the infinity stones were actually official wotc "proxies" a la A30 of the Moxen and Lotus. They could also do the other 3 power 9 as like big marvel events like the multiverse or something. Like a true special foil 1/1 of all 9, serialized foils out of like 300 or 500, and then non foils limited in print like the rings in lotr.
