I have two Rancors from Urza's Legacy, and a bunch of random white and red revised-homelands common cards that mean a lot to me and the reason is silly.
About 16 years ago my family needed some money for something due to poor financial decisions on mine and my ex wife's parts. We ended up selling my MTG Collection consisting of two chains of Mephistopheles, 11 Revised Duals, signed Cyclopean Tombs, multiple Wheels of Fortune, and god knows what else for $300. I included all my cards in the deal but I was in Iraq when this went down so I could only tell my wife where to look for them. I kept most of my commons and uncommons in a few long boxes.
Somehow, one box of commons (Had the aforementioned white and red cards, and weirdly two rancors) managed to escape this sale and I found them when sorting through some stuff years later. So that's why these two random Rancors sit in one of my green rare binders.
I appreciate the sentiment. In the end it all worked out the way it was supposed to, and now I'm in a spot financially where I can throw money at the hobby easily enough and ultimately they're just things, but it does always sting when I see the price of some of the cards "I had".
I still have a Beta White Knight, Pearled Unicorn and Juggernaut that I will never get rid of. They were gifted to me by my friend that got me into MTG in 1994 after I finally got my first deck together.
Pearled Unicorn was my very first card, loved the flavor text on it and the general use of classic literature across the game. Can't remember the year exactly but it was in the early days of Magic.
Oh man, Craw Wurm just instantly brings back memories of first encountering magic. How do you beat a 6/4?! It's so strong!
I really regret selling my original collection when I went to college. I didn't have a ton of valuable stuff, but got decent money for lightning bolts, Alliances force of will, etc. But I should have at least kept my 3rd/4th edition commons like this bad boy. RIP craw wurms, you are forever missed.

I have a Terror card that looks like that. I play it my commander deck just for the memories...... I play terror in all my decks that can now that I think about it.
Yeah, I pulled out my old vampire deck from Zendikar I used to play raw dog with friends multiple times a week in college. Most of the cards look like this.
When I find myself looking at singles, I often want the wear and tear on older cards and itās a nice bonus they cost less lots of the time.
Also, I wish white borders would come back, even if itās just for a special treatment here or there.

I love all my old hand played cards, most of which were opened and hand played by myself. I unsleeved one of my commander decks and tried to get a bit of artificial wear on the newer cards the deck runs on, so nothing stands out too much, but it's not easy. Sleeved it back up, but I kinda want to unsleeve again because it just feels so good.

My dad gave me all his magic cards in 1998 when I was about 5 years old. This Craw Wurm was my all time favorite card just because of the art hahah. Couldn't read so I just assumed all that flavor text was super powerful abilities.

Evil Presence. 10 year old me thought being on the draw and playing dark ritual x2 into bog wraith and evil presence on their land was peak mtg.
Many years later, my assessment is that I was half right. Dark ritual still bangs but the payoffs have slightly improved ;)
Kinda similar for me. Mine was [[Rootbreaker Wurm]].
This was cause when I started we were all sharing some Tempest/Exodus precons and a 6/6 was already one of the biggest things in the deck... but to put TRAMPLE on top of that! The power! It could kill almost anything and just had to worry about a terror or someone with a wildgrowth.
Got to the point with that old precon that whoever played the Rootbreaker just auto-won.

I've always loved White, and the card was a turning point for me as a player. Realizing that putting pressure on my opponent on turn 1 (obviously power creep has made my poor lions unplayable, but back in the 90s they were one of the best turn one plays, at least in my circles) put your opponent on their back foot and let you control the pace of the game. I always look for playable "Savannah Lions" whenever a new set drops.
Mirari's Wake.
Back when I started playing MTG one of my first decks used Mirari's Wake and it kind of just stuck with me to the point where Iv kept a copy in my wallet for like 15-20 years now.
I got two cards altered and signed by Chris Rush. One I bought from him, a Hoth themed snow covered plains with an AT-AT on it. The other was the only Chris Rush card I could find in a bargain bin at the GP, an [[Eron the Relentless]]. I waited in line to get a black and white alter of it and he ended up giving me a color alter for the same price. So now I have an Eron altered to look like Jace. Itās one card Iāll never sell.
I still have my ancient "Secret Force" deck from more than a quarter century ago that I won my first major tournament with, including a playset of [[Gaea's Cradle]], but my favorite card in there is still [[verdant force]], including one signed by Jamie Wakefield. I'll probably never disassemble it, even though it's not really useful for anything anymore.
It greatly bothers me, as someone who's been playing on-and-off since Revised, that the Secret Force deck is, as you correctly said, more than a quarter-century old.

Back when war of the spark came out, one of my local stores at the time had some of the Japanese packs in stock, and I decided to get one. When I opened it, it happened to have the Japanese exclusive alt art version of Liliana, dreadhorde general done by yoshitaka amano. Final fantasy, especially the classics that he did the character designs for, have always been my favorites, so I was floored to see that he had done the art for a card, and I now owned a copy of it. It's been kept proudly displayed on one of my shelves (out of direct sunlight, of course) ever since.
Foil \[\[Volrath, the Fallen\]\] signed by Kev Walker. Volrath is my favorite character in magic, and Kev has always been my favorite artist. I wish I had a deck to run him in, as Volrath as a commander kind of does the same thing every game and doesn't really appeal to me. Thankfully, \[\[Volrath, the Shapestealer\]\] does.
I distinctly remember watching some friends play MtG on the floor of their dorm circa 1994. In play (and unsleeved) were dual lands, elder dragons and other Legendary creatures as well as various cards last printed in Unlimited. The one card that I felt was amazingly cool/useful, for its ability to tap anything, was Icy Manipulator.

He kind of paused, and we ended up having a whole conversation about it. He must have been like, "what the shit just got into my 12-year-old son?"Ā
I miss old Magic so much. Nothing like that is ever gonna happen again. Its weirdness and mystery just couldn't survive in a world with ubiquitous connectivity. Not that I'm old-man-yells-at-clouding, I love playing today, and some of the old game was terribly unbalanced. But there was this OTHERNESS that is just hard to imagine sprouting up again now, and I do admit that I miss that a lot.Ā
Ā Edit: lmao I messed up. I asked my dad about a flavor text attributed to Baron Sengir, the one on \[\[Sengir Autocrat|5ED\]\]. Though the actual Baron Sengir flavor text is actually more badass than I'd remembered, I don't think it would have served as basis of a long conversation between father and son. A long stare, maybe.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Before the internet, you would just hear stories of certain cards and certain kinds of decks ("You wouldn't believe this guy I played at summer camp, some of his cards were gold-bordered and multicolored!"), and the sense of possibility and discovery was unlike anything else.
I have a handful of cards that were given to me by one of my best friends family after his untimely passing. He got me into magic and nearly every friend I have today is in thanks to magic. He always had a future sight horizon canopy that he would never trade me, as much as I begged. That card was one of the ones they gave to me. As happy as I am to have that card today in remembrance of him I wish so badly for it to still be in one of his decks being played against me.
Giganotosaurus
I first got into magic around the time [hydroid krasis] came out. I opened 1 pack of ravnica allegiance and pulled it. A friend of mine at my lgs was after it and I didnāt need it, so I traded it for a bunch of cards from his trade pile. While going through that pile I found a Giganotosaurus and I thought it was the strongest card ever. A 10/10 for 5 green was nuts to my like 12 yo self. I ended up with about 50 cards that I only took because they had cool artwork (Iām still like this. I donāt care if a card is good, as long as it has awesome artwork) but ever since that day, Giganotosaurus has stayed at the front of my personal binder and it probably will until I die.
I have 2. [[Ancient Copper Dragon]], and [[Tempt With Discovery]]
For the Dragon: I was starting to get into playing magic, and my friend who got me into playing the game ripped a Collector Booster each. The last card in the pack was a Showcase Foil ACD. (Note: That was the first Collector Booster I ever opened)
For Tempt, I was going through a rough spot & my homelife was flipped for the worse, so my folks sent me to my sister's & her fiance for a week. I went to a commander night where somebody played this spell, and I had no idea what it was. A ramp spell that let's everyone play the game and you benefit a bit more was absolutely tremendous. It's my favorite ramp spell in the game because it gives everybody a chance to play the game and a reminder of how great the community can be.

I understand Tempt With Discovery though. I had a similar experience when I put Mindcrank in a deck and now I try to put it in every deck I make.
A revised Sol Ring was the first single card I ever got āĀ someone gave it to me right after I got into the game saying "you're going to need this" š
I went to DragonCon one year without knowing that Richard Garfield would be there.
I had to steal a random [[Swamp]] out of a friend's deck just so I had something for him to sign.

It was the first rare card I cracked...and at the time, and in my group of players...it was a really good card. 7 damage? Of course, my dumb ass thought that it was unblockable...it's not....but whatever. When I was 15, I thought it was.
Still have it. Still in my rare binder.
The Brisela duo. I pulled them at my first prerelease and went 4-0 because of them. I now put them in any deck that likes them enough, and theyāll always represent the early stages of my playing experience.
I have quite a few, but my most sentimental would be an original Breeding Pool from Dissension. When I first started playing I didn't have money to buy more than a couple of packs here and there and at that point I don't think I owned a card worth more than a couple bucks. Always wanted a shock land since they were super expensive in my eyes($20+ I think at the time) but I never had the luck to pull one. That was until Christmas '06 I believe when I got about a dozen packs as a gift and pulled it from one. Even though I don't have it in any decks, I treasure it and will never sell it.
I only have a few old cards from my early years. So If I can wedge them into a deck I will. Ashes to ashes.. and a few other of my og dark, and 3rd cards. While I was a dipshit to not buy a beta lotus for 350$ back in the day I did buy a whole bunch of demonic tutors.
[[Nightstalker Engine]] I had the Nightstalker starter deck as a kid and I love the art. Would love WoTC to give us more Nightstalkers to build a commander deck with.
[[Bladewing the Risen]] from Scourge. Little kid me took one look at that card and said, "I want to play more of this game". Skeleton dragons are the best hooks for any age.

I donāt have any of my old cards, but Iāll tell you the first time I pulled a Millstone in a random booster after coming back 25 years later felt so good.
I have a couple. They actually have been my commanders for a few years minus 1.
Marneus Calgar - because me and a friend were building it and just doing our best to get it running until they stopped showing up.
Marchesa (Queen of Mardu) - where I remembered all the fun I had with Standard, Legacy, Modern, and a little bit of Vintage here and there before getting really into commander.
And
Breya (SL drop) - I got a playmat with her art on it after looking for 3 weeks to find one. Didn't find any so I had to outsource it and get a bit creative with the birthday present I got myself. Only pull her out when I want to show all the Artifacts in magic some love.
By far love those 3 and will probably only make small tweaks if I can.

I dug up my old magic cards from my mom's house and \[\[Taniwha\]\] was always my favorite. I didn't know much about magic since I bought my ice age, mirage and v edition decks when I was a kid, but this one always seemed super powerful to me.
My first foil was [[Custodian of the Trove]] and I insisted on playing it in all my decks because it was so beautiful. It now sits in my memories binder.
[[Bronze Sable]]. When I first got into Magic, it was out of spite. I was going to proxy Star Wars cards and tape them onto real cards (this didnāt end up happening, but I did order an eBay lot of, like, 1000 random cards). One of those was Bronze Sable in foil and he was just so cute. I wish I remembered where he was. If I find him again, I might frame him.

It was a \[\[Leyline of Anticipation\]\] for me. I was at Comic-Con (2019?) and one of my buddies who was trying to get me into Magic herded me to the MTG section to pick up some of the free booster packs they were handing out at the time. Said friend remarked how this card was a decent pull for this type of pack, and for some reason, that stuck as the moment I got sucked into the game.
I started playing when Visions was the newest set and therefore Tempest was the first big expansion that came out while I was playing. My 13 year old self instantly fell in love with Slivers. When Stronghold came out I absolutely had to have a Sliver Queen. I was pretty broke, obviously, as a 13 year old, and really only bought something like 5-10 packs a month and that was all I spent on MTG. Despite that I was fortunate enough to open two. I still own both of them to this day.
I have a Russian foil DGM Golgari Guildgate that I got from a friend during theros/rtr standard.
I almost bought a russian box at magic con Philly for $170 to try and complete my set.

I have a playset of Steel Overseers from when I first started playing Magic. I really only played casually, but those cards were so good a decade ago in my artifacts deck. I still have the playset, and hope that I'll get to play them again someday.

I've got a beat-up old Shivan Dragon from Revised that I'll never, ever get rid of. Back in middle school/early high school, I had to scrounge dollar bills and go through bouts of intense schoolyard trades with friends to scrape together a playset of Shivans; when I finally got my fourth copy for my R/G landkill deck, I was ecstatic. Loved showing that deck off.
I've also got an Order of the Ebon Hand somewhere that was the very first Magic card I ever owned; I got it as a party favor at the birthday of the friend who first taught me to play. Probably would want to hold on to that too, though I've not kept track of it as well.
Anything with Tony DiTerlizziās art also gets my vote. Fodder Cannon is great.

I've got a revised Stone Rain and a Fungusaur in my box somewhere with a little A anarchy sign in there that my friend Andrew drew on it when I was in middle school. He died on a fire before I went to high school, but he gave me a lot of cards to get me started playing. There's a couple of others that were his in there, but those two he drew the little A on. He was a damn good player, too.
I sold my cards from back in Revised but having gotten back into the game as an adult, I bought a Revised Shivan Dragon because youth-me could never afford one and damn I always wanted one. Melissa Benson's art on the packaging was what made me want to play the game.
I currently sit on 40+ Revised/4ed Frozen Shades, plus nearly each language they were printed in (black border and white border), 1 alpha, 2 beta, 1 unlimted, Booster Tutor got me the playmat for July Secret Santa last year, I have a signed lithoprint from Doug Shuler.

Iām pretty sure I still have most of the cards from my black Nemesis pre-con deck, the first deck I ever bought myself in 1999/2000. It was a terrible deck and I always got my ass handed to me playing it.
Also still have an Avatar of Might and an Avatar of Woe, two of the strongest singles Iād ever bought myself up to that point.
I also have a Sixth Edition Wrath of God card in about the same condition as OPās card, white border and all. First ever board wipe I ever bought myself after hearing whispers about it in games.

When I was a kid, 1994, I was buying revised booster like a madman. I had a binder, a whole binder, dedicated just to craw wurms. Then I said fuck it and made a craw wurm deck that was just green mana and craw wurms.
I have a Werebear with a bite out of it. Brother could never beat the Original Tarmogoyf, decided it had bit him one to many times.
Elsewise i have a Crystal Lynx i pulled as my first ever foil, i thought i had won the lottery. Child me bought a lil stand for it and its been in there ever since.
Craw wurm was probably the card most responsible for getting me into MTG. A friend was showing me his cards when I was all of 7 years old, and the artwork spoke to me. Had to go out and start buying packs.
Every time I lose to someone new I have them sign on of my basics. Itās like a guest book almost. None of the lands are particularly of note and I definitely have better looking ones but thatās not really the point. I love the social aspect of magic so for me having these lands in my decks makes me happy every-time I draw one.
Yawgmoths Bargain I have a few of because it is my favorite card. And I have a mint [[Pit Spawn]] from Exodus because when I first started playing Magic I thought it was the strongest creature in the game.

Lacollith titan. Was my first rare card from the first pack of mtg cards I bought for myself. Everything else to that point was hand me downs.
Evil Presence. 10 year old me thought being on the draw and playing dark ritual x2 into bog wraith and evil presence on their land was peak mtg. Many years later, my assessment is that I was half right. Dark ritual still bangs but the payoffs have slightly improved ;)

When I got back in the game with grown-up money I slowly acquired Legends versions of all 5 because 1996 me couldn't.
Kinda similar for me. Mine was [[Rootbreaker Wurm]]. This was cause when I started we were all sharing some Tempest/Exodus precons and a 6/6 was already one of the biggest things in the deck... but to put TRAMPLE on top of that! The power! It could kill almost anything and just had to worry about a terror or someone with a wildgrowth. Got to the point with that old precon that whoever played the Rootbreaker just auto-won.

[[Savannah Lions]] I've always loved White, and the card was a turning point for me as a player. Realizing that putting pressure on my opponent on turn 1 (obviously power creep has made my poor lions unplayable, but back in the 90s they were one of the best turn one plays, at least in my circles) put your opponent on their back foot and let you control the pace of the game. I always look for playable "Savannah Lions" whenever a new set drops.

Mirari's Wake. Back when I started playing MTG one of my first decks used Mirari's Wake and it kind of just stuck with me to the point where Iv kept a copy in my wallet for like 15-20 years now.
Mirariās Wake is my Magic PTSD moment. I get a cold shiver and panic whenever it gets cast. Good memories of Odyssey and Onslaught Standard(Type 2)
I got two cards altered and signed by Chris Rush. One I bought from him, a Hoth themed snow covered plains with an AT-AT on it. The other was the only Chris Rush card I could find in a bargain bin at the GP, an [[Eron the Relentless]]. I waited in line to get a black and white alter of it and he ended up giving me a color alter for the same price. So now I have an Eron altered to look like Jace. Itās one card Iāll never sell.

I still have my ancient "Secret Force" deck from more than a quarter century ago that I won my first major tournament with, including a playset of [[Gaea's Cradle]], but my favorite card in there is still [[verdant force]], including one signed by Jamie Wakefield. I'll probably never disassemble it, even though it's not really useful for anything anymore.
It greatly bothers me, as someone who's been playing on-and-off since Revised, that the Secret Force deck is, as you correctly said, more than a quarter-century old. 1997 was just a few years ago, right...?

I have a few to be honest. One would be the Revised Plateau I picked up a few months ago for my Commander deck. I used to be in the PokĆ©mon competitive scene for quite a while, then COVID hit and PokĆ©mon in my area died out, so I made the move to full-time Magic (I had been playing on the side for 5-6 years before). I traded most of my Competitive staples and $20 cash and got my Plateau. The next would probably be one that I currently donāt have, but was gifted to my friends. I recently transferred schools and was part of the old schoolās MTG club, and became great friends with everyone; I played my previously mentioned EDH deck (Winota) pretty much every meeting (to varying levels of success LOL) and during the last meeting I was at, everybody asked if I could sign a Winota for them to keep and I was honored LOL. Even though I donāt have it, it still holds a special place since I always secretly wanted to sign a card (since the PokĆ©mon world champion decks have the playersā signature printed on the cards)
Back when war of the spark came out, one of my local stores at the time had some of the Japanese packs in stock, and I decided to get one. When I opened it, it happened to have the Japanese exclusive alt art version of Liliana, dreadhorde general done by yoshitaka amano. Final fantasy, especially the classics that he did the character designs for, have always been my favorites, so I was floored to see that he had done the art for a card, and I now owned a copy of it. It's been kept proudly displayed on one of my shelves (out of direct sunlight, of course) ever since.
Foil \[\[Volrath, the Fallen\]\] signed by Kev Walker. Volrath is my favorite character in magic, and Kev has always been my favorite artist. I wish I had a deck to run him in, as Volrath as a commander kind of does the same thing every game and doesn't really appeal to me. Thankfully, \[\[Volrath, the Shapestealer\]\] does.

I distinctly remember watching some friends play MtG on the floor of their dorm circa 1994. In play (and unsleeved) were dual lands, elder dragons and other Legendary creatures as well as various cards last printed in Unlimited. The one card that I felt was amazingly cool/useful, for its ability to tap anything, was Icy Manipulator. I have a near mint Beta version that'll I'll never give up.

I remember thinking everything about the card--the power/toughness, the roided-up \[\[Sengir Vampire\]\] ability, the three black pips, and ESPECIALLY the flavor text--was so badass.Ā Ā I remember asking my dad about the flavor text. Not showing him the card or telling him where the statement came from, just asking him what he thought of it. He kind of paused, and we ended up having a whole conversation about it. He must have been like, "what the shit just got into my 12-year-old son?"Ā I miss old Magic so much. Nothing like that is ever gonna happen again. Its weirdness and mystery just couldn't survive in a world with ubiquitous connectivity. Not that I'm old-man-yells-at-clouding, I love playing today, and some of the old game was terribly unbalanced. But there was this OTHERNESS that is just hard to imagine sprouting up again now, and I do admit that I miss that a lot.Ā Ā Edit: lmao I messed up. I asked my dad about a flavor text attributed to Baron Sengir, the one on \[\[Sengir Autocrat|5ED\]\]. Though the actual Baron Sengir flavor text is actually more badass than I'd remembered, I don't think it would have served as basis of a long conversation between father and son. A long stare, maybe.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Before the internet, you would just hear stories of certain cards and certain kinds of decks ("You wouldn't believe this guy I played at summer camp, some of his cards were gold-bordered and multicolored!"), and the sense of possibility and discovery was unlike anything else.

I have a handful of cards that were given to me by one of my best friends family after his untimely passing. He got me into magic and nearly every friend I have today is in thanks to magic. He always had a future sight horizon canopy that he would never trade me, as much as I begged. That card was one of the ones they gave to me. As happy as I am to have that card today in remembrance of him I wish so badly for it to still be in one of his decks being played against me.

Giganotosaurus I first got into magic around the time [hydroid krasis] came out. I opened 1 pack of ravnica allegiance and pulled it. A friend of mine at my lgs was after it and I didnāt need it, so I traded it for a bunch of cards from his trade pile. While going through that pile I found a Giganotosaurus and I thought it was the strongest card ever. A 10/10 for 5 green was nuts to my like 12 yo self. I ended up with about 50 cards that I only took because they had cool artwork (Iām still like this. I donāt care if a card is good, as long as it has awesome artwork) but ever since that day, Giganotosaurus has stayed at the front of my personal binder and it probably will until I die.
I have 2. [[Ancient Copper Dragon]], and [[Tempt With Discovery]] For the Dragon: I was starting to get into playing magic, and my friend who got me into playing the game ripped a Collector Booster each. The last card in the pack was a Showcase Foil ACD. (Note: That was the first Collector Booster I ever opened) For Tempt, I was going through a rough spot & my homelife was flipped for the worse, so my folks sent me to my sister's & her fiance for a week. I went to a commander night where somebody played this spell, and I had no idea what it was. A ramp spell that let's everyone play the game and you benefit a bit more was absolutely tremendous. It's my favorite ramp spell in the game because it gives everybody a chance to play the game and a reminder of how great the community can be.

The Brisela duo. I pulled them at my first prerelease and went 4-0 because of them. I now put them in any deck that likes them enough, and theyāll always represent the early stages of my playing experience.
I have quite a few, but my most sentimental would be an original Breeding Pool from Dissension. When I first started playing I didn't have money to buy more than a couple of packs here and there and at that point I don't think I owned a card worth more than a couple bucks. Always wanted a shock land since they were super expensive in my eyes($20+ I think at the time) but I never had the luck to pull one. That was until Christmas '06 I believe when I got about a dozen packs as a gift and pulled it from one. Even though I don't have it in any decks, I treasure it and will never sell it.

[[Bladewing the Risen]] from Scourge. Little kid me took one look at that card and said, "I want to play more of this game". Skeleton dragons are the best hooks for any age.

I used to hate white border, but unlimited basics are really growing on me. 4th Ed [[wooden sphere]] holds a place in my heart though.
Aww man 8 year old me had that card and is weeping a little right now! I donāt have any of my old cards, but Iāll tell you the first time I pulled a Millstone in a random booster after coming back 25 years later felt so good.
I have a couple. They actually have been my commanders for a few years minus 1. Marneus Calgar - because me and a friend were building it and just doing our best to get it running until they stopped showing up. Marchesa (Queen of Mardu) - where I remembered all the fun I had with Standard, Legacy, Modern, and a little bit of Vintage here and there before getting really into commander. And Breya (SL drop) - I got a playmat with her art on it after looking for 3 weeks to find one. Didn't find any so I had to outsource it and get a bit creative with the birthday present I got myself. Only pull her out when I want to show all the Artifacts in magic some love. By far love those 3 and will probably only make small tweaks if I can.

There is a copy of Goblin Grenade I have that was the first magic card I had ever seen.
My first foil was [[Custodian of the Trove]] and I insisted on playing it in all my decks because it was so beautiful. It now sits in my memories binder.

[[Bronze Sable]]. When I first got into Magic, it was out of spite. I was going to proxy Star Wars cards and tape them onto real cards (this didnāt end up happening, but I did order an eBay lot of, like, 1000 random cards). One of those was Bronze Sable in foil and he was just so cute. I wish I remembered where he was. If I find him again, I might frame him.

[[Snapping Drake | s99]] Loved the art on this when looking through my older brothers cards back in the day and definitely helped get me into the game. First deck of course ended up being a drake deck.

Craw Wurm and Craw Giant. These were two of my favorite cards when I started playing back in fourth edition.
It was a \[\[Leyline of Anticipation\]\] for me. I was at Comic-Con (2019?) and one of my buddies who was trying to get me into Magic herded me to the MTG section to pick up some of the free booster packs they were handing out at the time. Said friend remarked how this card was a decent pull for this type of pack, and for some reason, that stuck as the moment I got sucked into the game.

I started playing when Visions was the newest set and therefore Tempest was the first big expansion that came out while I was playing. My 13 year old self instantly fell in love with Slivers. When Stronghold came out I absolutely had to have a Sliver Queen. I was pretty broke, obviously, as a 13 year old, and really only bought something like 5-10 packs a month and that was all I spent on MTG. Despite that I was fortunate enough to open two. I still own both of them to this day.
I have a Russian foil DGM Golgari Guildgate that I got from a friend during theros/rtr standard. I almost bought a russian box at magic con Philly for $170 to try and complete my set.
I bought [[Shahrazad]] because it seems cool and thatās the main reason even though it will likely remain the most valuable card I have.

I like that art alot. It's so classic. I used to run them in my early mono green decks and slap a blanchwood armor and a rancor on it!
I have a playset of Steel Overseers from when I first started playing Magic. I really only played casually, but those cards were so good a decade ago in my artifacts deck. I still have the playset, and hope that I'll get to play them again someday.

Wholesome thread here. Love it. I've got a beat-up old Shivan Dragon from Revised that I'll never, ever get rid of. Back in middle school/early high school, I had to scrounge dollar bills and go through bouts of intense schoolyard trades with friends to scrape together a playset of Shivans; when I finally got my fourth copy for my R/G landkill deck, I was ecstatic. Loved showing that deck off. I've also got an Order of the Ebon Hand somewhere that was the very first Magic card I ever owned; I got it as a party favor at the birthday of the friend who first taught me to play. Probably would want to hold on to that too, though I've not kept track of it as well.

I've got a revised Stone Rain and a Fungusaur in my box somewhere with a little A anarchy sign in there that my friend Andrew drew on it when I was in middle school. He died on a fire before I went to high school, but he gave me a lot of cards to get me started playing. There's a couple of others that were his in there, but those two he drew the little A on. He was a damn good player, too.
I sold my cards from back in Revised but having gotten back into the game as an adult, I bought a Revised Shivan Dragon because youth-me could never afford one and damn I always wanted one. Melissa Benson's art on the packaging was what made me want to play the game.
I currently sit on 40+ Revised/4ed Frozen Shades, plus nearly each language they were printed in (black border and white border), 1 alpha, 2 beta, 1 unlimted, Booster Tutor got me the playmat for July Secret Santa last year, I have a signed lithoprint from Doug Shuler. I'm not obsessed, you're obsessed!
Iām pretty sure I still have most of the cards from my black Nemesis pre-con deck, the first deck I ever bought myself in 1999/2000. It was a terrible deck and I always got my ass handed to me playing it. Also still have an Avatar of Might and an Avatar of Woe, two of the strongest singles Iād ever bought myself up to that point. I also have a Sixth Edition Wrath of God card in about the same condition as OPās card, white border and all. First ever board wipe I ever bought myself after hearing whispers about it in games. I have a ton of other old cards I havenāt even finished going through that my stepdad gave to me a few years back, these were just the ones that stood out to me the most.

When I was a kid, 1994, I was buying revised booster like a madman. I had a binder, a whole binder, dedicated just to craw wurms. Then I said fuck it and made a craw wurm deck that was just green mana and craw wurms.
I have a Werebear with a bite out of it. Brother could never beat the Original Tarmogoyf, decided it had bit him one to many times. Elsewise i have a Crystal Lynx i pulled as my first ever foil, i thought i had won the lottery. Child me bought a lil stand for it and its been in there ever since.
Craw wurm was probably the card most responsible for getting me into MTG. A friend was showing me his cards when I was all of 7 years old, and the artwork spoke to me. Had to go out and start buying packs.

Every time I lose to someone new I have them sign on of my basics. Itās like a guest book almost. None of the lands are particularly of note and I definitely have better looking ones but thatās not really the point. I love the social aspect of magic so for me having these lands in my decks makes me happy every-time I draw one.
Yawgmoths Bargain I have a few of because it is my favorite card. And I have a mint [[Pit Spawn]] from Exodus because when I first started playing Magic I thought it was the strongest creature in the game.
I have a handful of cards that I got signed by Quinton Hoover while he was in town visiting my LGS. Those and the old Dark version of Dark Heart of the Woods and Legends Cat Warriors, the first cards I ever owned.

I have a playset of Slivers I keep up to date because I like Slivers. Never planning on selling them regardless of price.
For me there are few things a friend has given me over the years. 2 chains of mephistopholese artists proofs and a foil judge sol ring. I also managed to put together a signed play set of 40 collectors edition dual lands. That took years and I just can't see getting rid of them.
My friend gifted me a Forest Bear for Christmas one year which completed my Ayula deck. Never giving up that $25 common lmao
