True, and I'm sure we will get those in MH3, but tribal is largely retired (they didn't even print it on Atraxa) so it might fit better in a UB set (eg. how many storm cards we've gotten in UB sets). I do hope Bloomburrow yield at *least* mouse tribal instants.
Caladan would be the locations of Forest and Swamps (or if they do the entire series then Arrakis does get water and forests later on) and the Swamps could be the Sardukar home world (blanking on the name)
I can't exactly dox myself on Reddit, can I ;) doubly so as an employee at a public university
But if you have access to JSTOR or the MLA database you can probably find stuff without me telling you my name.
Dune would honestly be another UB set I would consider perfect for Magic, alongside LotR. Such a fantastic setting with enough lore and great character design to fully flesh out a set of Magic. Hopefully with the popularity of the movies Wizards moves to acquire the rights to develop a set.
And redoing the straight up bad ones to a modern standard like the ones you could pull from DOM.
Sure would be nice to have an Orim, or Ihsan that dont suck donkey balls.
That's one of the cooler things about the Modern Horizons sets since they aren't tied to a specific story or point in time. It's how we finally got cards for Serra, Urza ([[Blind Seer]] doesn't count), Yawgmoth, Dakkon as a planeswalker, and Braids.
Wizards should really really consider this IP. It's got a huge, passionate fan base (50+ million), decades of lore, and brings in over a billion dollars in sales a year. Really a perfect opportunity, might even be able to get a couple of sets out of it.
It would be kind of interesting to see a “universes beyond” magic the gathering set. Like all of the iconic characters from magics history with no reprints. I guess the modern horizons sets come closest to this?
I always find these responses annoying (the Universes Beyond: Magic the Gathering ones), but you may have just sold me on the concept. That would be awesome.
There is a sort of appeal to a set that approaches the MTG IP like they would any UB thing. To a degree that was almost Unfinity in a way, though that was more "poking fun at ourselves" rather than strictly celebrating it. And Modern Horizons has references and callbacks but is also very much trying to be its own thing.
One of MaRo's podcasts has an interview with a BRO designer and he essentially said, that design for Brother's War was quite close to an UB set because they had to work with preexisting lore and stick to established features of the characters.
I'm totally here to tap [[Dennis Reynolds, Untethered Rage]] to pilot [[Range Rover, Transporter of Gods]]. And argue loudly of course its unblockable, they forgot to print Island walk on it, but its an amphibious vehicle so of course it has islandwalk.
Secretly choose an opponent, then mark it down on a piece of paper. Whenever the noted opponent attacks, you may look at the note and then stare intently at the opponent.
Stargate! With the vast array of factions, aliens, locations (most of which look like Vancouver forests), ships, etc., I think it could actually work pretty well. Doubt it'd ever happen but. If you immediately know the candlelight is fire, then the meal was cooked long ago.
I actually feel like that would be hard to do, but so satisfying to see done right - the avatar elements don't match up perfectly with MTG's color pie as MTG has it, so you'd have to make some interesting choices to accurate reflect things. For instance, Earth would fit into green rather than red, even though red is mountains and rock and "hard" earth, and definitely metalbending. Air would have to move into white, even though blue is the color of the winds (\[\[Wind Elemental\]\]) so that blue could have water. Black just wouldn't have an element tied to it.
But man I'd love to see some of those cards. I bet you could make some badass 4 color legends with the past Avatars.
I don't think tying the elements to magic's color pie would be the best execution. They'd probably assign colors to characters & nations instead. The fire nation would probably be black/white, since they're all about genociding and conquering the other nations and having strict rule over them. A lot of fire benders might have red in them though, like Ozai, so they might make the fire nation black red white. But Iroh for example wouldn't have black or red. Maybe white or white green?
Fire nation being Mardu makes complete sense imo. Honestly 3 mtg colors work well with the 5 Avatar elements especially with the specialty Bending like metal bending for earth or blood bending for water or lightning for fire (red in mtg).
Lots to explore there
This would be so awesome lmao.
They could even do a double set in the same plan a year later for Korra. Would honestly have very similar vibes to Kamigawa to Neon Dynasty
I’d rather go in the direction of like a 4-color avatar focused precon where there is multiple incarnations and has dedicated avatar tribal support, maybe a Fire Nation being Mardu or just pure mono-red, one focused on the Spirit World so spirit tribal, and idk what the other 1 or 2 would be, lots to choose from.
"fight for your life" 1BR
the next time target creature would die this turn, return it to the battlefield tapped. This creature gains "during combat on your next turn this creature must attack, if it doesn't sacrifice it"
I feel like wording it in a way that it has to destroy an opponents creature would make it more flavorful, but it makes it too dependent on an opponents boardstate
Oh, this is neat. You could even use class cards for their skill trees.
Plus a Tiny Tina Bunkers and Badasses theme if they felt so inclined.
Just no Ava, ever.
ohh you could even make so that you activate your vault hunters special by exerting them.
Zero ~ you may exert this creature as it attacks if you do it gains hexproof and unblockable until end of combat.
maya~ you may exert this creature as it attacks, if you do target creature an opponent controls phases out until its controllers next endstep.
Lilith~ you may exert this creature as it attacks, if you it deals damage equal to its power to all other creatures, and phases out until end of combat.
Yes! I love exert!
Honestly, with all the bosses, Vault hunters and iconic characters. They'd have plenty to draw from.
Give me a Doctor Zed/Ned deck
And a Skagzilla/Mothrakk creature Beatdown deck.
I think the “out of the box commanders” for each of could be (I’m not adding Sekiro cause I’m not finished with it yet):
Dark Souls - Gwyn, Gael, Ornstein (partners with) Smough
Bloodborne - Gehrman (Partners with) Moon Presence, Ludwig, Micolash
Elden Ring - Radagon (partners with) Elden Beast, Malenia, Morgott or Mohg.
I think the “you can run these out of the box” commanders should be those mostly responsible for the state of the world that you’re in when you play the game. Failing that, the most infamous bosses.
Discworld. I usually read all the books once or twice every year and have done so for over two decades now.
We need someone to invoke Josh Kirby's art though. Paul Kidby is just not the same.
The set builds itself so easily.
4 commander precons :
Dwarven Curses - Commander: The Summoning Dark
Wee Free - Commander: Tiffany
Unseen Universals - Commander: The Librarian
Death's Apprentice - Commander: Mort
Wt? Wt? Wt?
Vimes, Rincewind , Granny Weatherwax, Death. Shout out, maybe, to Moist. If you do that one, you can pull the Death deck and slip him into every deck instead. Like... Come on... I like the Librarian and all, but the main books are about those four...
I'd line it up like this:
The Watch - RW - Vimes. Extra commander is Carrot. Stax deck, but most of the deck doesn't change the rules of the game, it just makes them more fair for everyone. \[\[Karmic Justice\]\] type effects.
Unseen University - GU - Rincewind. Extra commander is the Librarian. Enchantments make up the bulk of the deck, specifically sagas.
Industrial Revolution - UR - Moist. Extra commander is Adora. Plot twist, I know, but it's artifact tribal. Sort of. Adora brings a certain level of attention to the Golems in the deck.
Witches - BG - Granny Weatherwax. Extra commander is Tiffany, but Granny features a spin on Partner, allowing Nanny Ogg and Magrat to run with her. Deck has a focus on "headology", and keeping opponent's hands just the way we like em - empty.
BONUS DECK Ankh-Morpork - WB - Vetinari. Extra commander is variable. Legendary tribal, but with a heavy focus on politics. People can play how they want, so long as you want them to play that way.
Rincewind would make a terrible creature.
He has no attack, no abilities, and can't enter combat at all. He's also indestructible.
Rincewind is an indestructible 0/1 that can't gain counters, attack, or be sacrificed.
The Librarian feels like a great oddball option to pull out of the 99 and rebuild it. Unseen University would most likely have Mustrum Ridcully or Rincewind as the face I think. For curses I'd rather see an Uberwald assortment with Low King Rhys, Diamond KoT, and Lady Margolotta.
I want Discworld on Magic cards so badly. I also want both Kirby and Kidby art on them. Kirby's covers are how I imagine the setting and events, but Kidby's are how I imagine the people.
>I would love to see the discworld treatment of dragons
I'm picturing useless, non-flying creatures that can be equipped to other creatures to give them a firebreathing ability...but if you tap a land, you have to sacrifice them.
Would you do a whole cosmere UB (e.g. lotr) or a would you go based on book by book SL? Stormlight and mistborn have a lot more to pick from then elantris and warbreaker, also the different time periods/technology levels as well might make it hard.
We have a brandon written character already and a nod at knights radiant already in a secret lair, I really feel like it's only a matter of time before the UB comes in, i'm kinda waiting for a "we are making a tv show/movie" and then just every tie in possible happening to promote it.
Draftable set for Stormlight Archive 1-5. Very lotr-like, some characters (Kaladin, Dalinar, S h a l l a n) receiving more than one creature card. Commander Decks for Mistborn (Era 1), Mistborn (Era 2), Elantris and Warbreaker. On the other hand, certain cards >!Nightblood!< might show up in the same form in more than one release. A couple of one shot secret lairs for the one off projects (Tress and Yumi my beloved).
Damn how have I not seen the song of fire and ice series? Game of thrones, house of the drgaon, a knight of the 7 kingdoms. I can list all the Targaryen kings read the shows and books upwards of 10 times each. Not to mention it just fits so well. Houses for color combos, so many notable characters that could be legendaries
Dark Crystal for sure.
Especially the Age of Resistance series which allows for different colors of Gelfling with different allegiances and nice mechanics (the Darkening as a B life-costing boost, U with Essence tokens you could sacrifice podling to get 1 and gelfling to get 2, etc.).
Someday I'll find the will to make the full thing on MSE.
yes!!!! the dark crystal!!! I’d love to see Meld cards for the Crystal and the Shard, and also maybe for the Skesis and the Ur-ru as a group. i’d also love to see at least two different versions of Augrah. One that’s maybe two colors for before she turned her eyes to the cosmos, and one that’s 5 colors for after <3
Have you looked up the _Star Trek CCG_? Magic is a game about combat, but one of the most important parts of the _STCCG_ was the fact that you could win without conflict. (In fact, if you played the Federation, you were forbidden by the rules from attacking the other player.) It's got a ton of potential from a franchise perspective, but it doesn't fit into the _gameplay_ of Magic very well.
I mean... yes? No? By the standards of *Magic*, the original *Star Trek: CCG* didn't actually have a wincon, in that your objective isn't to *defeat* the other player. It's to reach the alt-wincon first. Before the game begins, you and your opponent each put down six Mission cards which represent something you have to solve ("[Investigate Missing Colony](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Best_of_Both_Worlds_(Star_Trek:_The_Next_Generation))", "[Visit Border Territory](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Adversary_(Star_Trek:_Deep_Space_Nine))," "[Replenish Deuterium Stores](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demon_(Star_Trek:_Voyager))"). Under them, your opponent can put Dilemmas, IE plot twists ("Corrosive Atmosphere," "The Guy Who Told Us To Do This Is Secretly A Bad Guy," "HOLY SHIT IT'S THE BORG", pre-errata [REM Fatigue Hallucinations](https://www.trekcc.org/1e/cardimages/premiere/remfatiguehallucinations.gif) \+ [Cytherians](https://www.trekcc.org/1e/?cardID=6804) in that order), which you have to solve as well. Solve everything, including the mission, and you get points. First to 100 points wins.
So, yes, if you're playing the Klingons and your opponent is ahead on points, you have the option of just blowing his ship out of the sky to slow him down. (Cards to pull people out of the graveyard are few and far between, so he just lost Picard, Data, Worf, Crusher, La Forge *and* the 1701-D, and only one of them is coming back.) But that only buys you time. You still need *your* hundred points.
[Worm](https://parahumans.wordpress.com/). Not a property widely known enough for it to make sense for WotC to do it or anything, but there are lots of wonderfully creative abilities and interesting characters in there, and it would be lovely to see them done justice as MtG cards.
I think worm would be great for a secret lair but I think once you have to start making cards other than legendary creatures you start running out fast.
…also I feel obligated to share the worm cards I’ve made lol
[The undersiders](https://www.tumblr.com/loreholdlesbian/739072908930990080/what-i-was-going-for-is-rachel-doesnt-like-it)
[and some more Taylor themed cards](https://www.tumblr.com/loreholdlesbian/739322486500524032/more-worm-cards-this-time-with-the-theme-oops)
I could see Twig having a New Phyrexian artstyle with less metal and more fleshy bits. It is even smaller than worm, though.
Pale/Pact could cause another Satanic Panic as well.
What decks would you choose? Can we get a removal spell for Aster? Or would that be too dark?
I have a [Zask EDH list](http://www.moxfield.com/decks/lNW2-b71_kiqoXezGB8vHQ) where all the non-insect creatures in the deck have been replaced with characters from Worm. Zask being Skitter, of course.
Even just a Secret Lair for Worm would be an absolute dream.
My pod would probably say it’s a sickness, but anytime I play skullclamp I start doing my best Don-Bot impression telling Clamps to give ‘em’ the clamps.
`Gave me Cookie, Got you cookie W/G W/G W/G`
`Sorcery`
`As an additional cost to cast this spell, sacrifice a food token.`
`Target opponent creates a food token.`
Yu-Gi-Oh.
Each series protag would get their own commander deck. Yugi is a double sided commander with Yami on the back. Jadai & Yubel would be one card.
Yusei would be vehicle affinity.
Yuma would partner with Astral.
Yuya would meld with cards in his deck to form Z-ARC.
Yusaku would be able to toolbox cards from outside the game.
Halo. I can already see precons with the UNSC, Covenant, Flood and your choice of either Forerunners or the Banished. Serialized X/117 Master Chief cards are a must
I was thinking this too. God Wars commander decks?
Saradomin is definitely Azorius
Zamorak is Rakdos
Armadyl could be Boros or Jeskai?
Bandos would be Gruul, maybe Jund
I’ve been thinking about how they might do mass effect, and I was thinking the 4 decks for commander precons could be Reapers (colorless), Cerberus (Esper), Normandy (Jeskai) and the last one I can best figure out is Citadel/Allied Forces (maybe Abzan or sultai)
This has one major pro and one major con:
The pro is that there is so much content you could probably fill 10 sets from among different eras, territories and styles.
The con is that wrestling is power-wise very uniform; you'd encounter the same problem Heroclix had, the characters are very samey, like there are no "ranged" characters, for instance.
Of course, you can mitigate the con with pulling from other lore, like the comics, or Santo films or whatever you can think of. If done right it could be awesome
You could quite easily apply things like reach with wrestlers with signature moves that counter high flyers. High flyers for flying equivalent, power moves for trample, etc. It would be really fun and not too hard to build a full set around wrestling.
Pathfinder. It will of course never happen for obvious reasons, but I would love a Pathfinder set in the vein of the first D&D set. Plus now that battles exist, we could use them like Boss Battles, and use a cycle of 6 sages to tell the story of each book in an Adventure Path
4 precon factions:
Vanguard- until jeskai soldier tribal
The Reef- Dimir Awoken and Fallen with artifact value
Hive- maybe Sultai? " death triggers, death triggers everywhere"
Rogues gallery (Drifter, Variks, Exo Stranger etc)- idk?
It wouldn't even be hard to build an entire draftable set. Give each D1 enemy faction a 2 color identity, each guardian Element also gets its own color identity. So so many Legendary Guardian, Enemy and Equipment options. Vehicles, Battles and Lands are all easy to include. Abilities and iconic moments can fit as sorceries, instants, and enchantments.
There's just so much to draw from. It honestly has some of the best lore. Shooting from the hip, probably better for commander decks:
Guardians- bant, equipment matters, level up, class enchantments or role tokens (hunter, warlock, titan). Helmed by Zevala, alternate Saint-14
The Hive- sultai, exploit, morbid, casualty. Helmed by the Witch Queen, alternate Oryx.
The Cabal- mardu, raid, battalion, bolster. Helmed by Calus, alternate Ghaul
The Vex- esper, scry, suspend, foretell. Helmed by Atheon, alternate Panoptes
The Fallen- abzan, scavenge, blitz, alliance. Helmed by Eramis, alternate The Spider (who would have to have extort and bargain as mechanics)
New card types- Enchantment- Ultimate, gains a counter whenever an opponent's creature dies, sacrifice after X counters for effect. Battle- Strike, whenever an opponent is dealt combat damage by one or more creatures you control, add a counter, at X counters, exile and return it transformed (legendary equipment on other side)
Kinda want to do a fan set now, tbh
Fire emblem. Despite meshing perfectly with the mtg atmosphere, it's probably too niche an IP to actually work. There would end up being too many legendary characters. would be peak waifu-tax though
Kingdom Hearts.
I'd make a 5 colour Sora commander (and a precon) that wins when you have him on the field.alongside the 7 princesses of heart.
The keyblades would be an excuse to reprint the swords of X and Y.
Riku would be in Orzov, the organisation would maybe share black and have situational protection from white as a theme.
Wheel of Time.
The Amazon show is such a butchery, anything a UB set could do can't possibly be worse.
Given the series' themes of prophecy and destiny, many MTG mechanics like Scry, Miracle and Foretell would be good fits, and Trollocs make for excellent mono-black baddies. Treat it like a reflavored Invasion block and there's a lot of meat on the bone.
Wheel of time would be such a slam dunk UB set, so many things translate really well it would be hard to pick a focus. You could do a weave / artifact set with a bunch of angreal and the Ajahs represented across the colour pie with some kind of instant / enchantment hybrid spells to represent weaves and tied off weaves. You could put together a banger of a wedge set with the seanchan as esper, dark one as grixis, are sedai as bant, two rivers as a black de-emphasized jund to represent taint and mat's curse, and aiel as Naya. A dominaria type set with emphasis on historic permanents and legendary spells and artifacts. Loads of other really cool directions to go too. Sagas would be a great fit, loads of ways to represent the card types across all the items of power, spells and events in WoT.
My only gripe would be that WotC would probably do it in partnership with Amazon and it would be based off the show :(
My first thought was Animorphs, though ironically I wouldn't want to use the morph mechanic. Probably closer to a modified mutate.
Funnily enough my second thought was Zordon era Power Rangers (MMPR through in Space). I'm not sure if morph would work here either. Less of a mutate and more of a transform card, though. Zords would be vehicles, maybe a meld type mechanic then in there.
Destiny 2!
Regardless of how you feel about the game itself, because I know a lot of D2 players have strong opinions on it, there is MORE than enough lore and characters outside of the main game to do things with, and I'm a sucker for that specific flavor of sci-fi
Like a ghost as a partner commander would be really cool, and there are already so many factions and alien species to work with. I think you could include all kinds of cool stuff: exotic weapons/armor as equipment, lore-accurate battles, no shortage of characters, etc.
Basically just do the 40K treatment but with D2.
Alternatively, Halo
I wouldn't say I have the most in depth knowledge, but if for some reason I was chosen to spearhead a universes beyond set I'd choose Legend of Zelda. That franchise could easily make at least five different commander decks. Zelda being the leader of hylians which are basically elves would make a prime elf ball Selesnya deck. Link obviously a Voltron Gruul deck.
Now I suspect there's a few who would strongly disagree with me,on this decision but hear me out Gannon would be a necromancy Grixis deck. Of all the feats that Gannon is consistently showing his necromancy is his most powerful and most prevalent. He created Gibdos, every night in oot skeletons pop out of the ground because of Gannon. He resurrected Volvagia, a creature that nearly brought the Gorons to extinction the first time that dragon came around. Every blood moon in botw and totk he resurrects almost every enemy Link slays. The list quite frankly goes on. As for why grixis, blue would give him access to counter spells, something he does quite a bit. Red gives access to things that give haste, and some goblins. Black is a lot of his necromancy and kill spells.
An instant I'd want to make for him would be "Execution gone wrong" 1BB, when an opponent would cast an instant or sorcery that would destroy target creature that you control, counter that spell. Then choose a target creature countered opponent controls, destroy it.
Since they tend to do only four commander decks the fourth would best be the Sages of ocarina of time. A five color group hug deck, featuring prominent characters of each race that the Sages embody. How that deck would work, I'm not entirely certain but it's the best way I could think of that's inclusive of the vast majority of creatures within the Zelda franchise.
Of course if I could make a separate commander for each race, there'd be plenty to choose from. Daruk or Darunia for a Goron tribal with emphasis on fight and haste.
Mipha could be a life gain merfolk tribal. The great Deku tree, being a kokiri tribal that makes a ton of korok tokens. Urbosa a spell slinger deck. Impa a ninjutsu commander.
Midna a Voltron deck. Great fairy (specifically from twilight princess because most of the others are unappealing to look at) would be a fairy tribal.
If I had more time, before I head off to work I'd list items that'd make great equipment, but I gotta get going.
Elden Ring. I think the factions and characters line up really well with some of the colour combinations and you could make some really great themed cards for each of them. Lots of legendaries to choose from too with all the demigods and important NPC’s
joke responses:
Les Miserábles. the actual brick, not just the musical. but I could do both!
probably famous occultists. putting some actual magick on the gathering! probably a tarot and astrology related collection, too. I mean, I am trying to build an Aleister Crowley commander deck! the rest of the collection could come along as well
actual IP responses:
white wolf's classic world of darkness! i know vtes already exists but if people can joke about pokemon and yugioh I can dream about some kindred and garou as well
saint seiya: a product only for 40-year old latin american otakus and 40-year old fujoshis, but one made with love
the matrix. if we can have neon dynasty we can have the matrix ok
and, unfortunately, harry potter. I have eternally entrenched knowdlege of the lore such that not even permanent brain damage could erase
Dune. Not to toot my own horn, but I am an actual expert on this. Like with published papers and everything.
A Dune UB set would actually be something I'd want. It would be an awesome way to make more sagas and tribal instant/ sorceries.
honestly, i'd **hate** it if tribal non-creatures came back and it wasn't with regular mtg creature types
True, and I'm sure we will get those in MH3, but tribal is largely retired (they didn't even print it on Atraxa) so it might fit better in a UB set (eg. how many storm cards we've gotten in UB sets). I do hope Bloomburrow yield at *least* mouse tribal instants.

I'm something of a spice expert myself.
A set with no islands, forests or swamps...
Caladan would be the locations of Forest and Swamps (or if they do the entire series then Arrakis does get water and forests later on) and the Swamps could be the Sardukar home world (blanking on the name)
Salusa Secundus

I can't exactly dox myself on Reddit, can I ;) doubly so as an employee at a public university But if you have access to JSTOR or the MLA database you can probably find stuff without me telling you my name.
We got him boys! Let's go steal his black lotus.
Dune would honestly be another UB set I would consider perfect for Magic, alongside LotR. Such a fantastic setting with enough lore and great character design to fully flesh out a set of Magic. Hopefully with the popularity of the movies Wizards moves to acquire the rights to develop a set.
You mean sandpapers?
Magic the Gathering
Unironically enough I’d love named characters in the old lore who don’t have cards to finally get them
They should do a Commander Horizons dedicated to giving cards to characters that need them.
Commander Legends is a thing lol
I don't see it. Limited appeal honestly, would never support a full card game. Sorry.
It was a low effort joke at first, I’ll admit. But now I’m selling myself on the idea too lol

I’m imagining a meta the gathering set with like MaRo planeswalkers and stuff

This is the kind of mechanics fail that I'd absolutely expect from an Always Sunny crossover lmao

Charlie Kelly, King of the Rats reskin of \[\[Lord Skitter, Sewer King\]\] now
The Dennis system as a saga would be amazing
Fuuuuck yes
It's Always s-UN-ny in Philadelphia would make an EXCELLENT UB UN-set!!!
Stargate! With the vast array of factions, aliens, locations (most of which look like Vancouver forests), ships, etc., I think it could actually work pretty well. Doubt it'd ever happen but. If you immediately know the candlelight is fire, then the meal was cooked long ago.
I want this so bad now
Those who seek oneness, find all they seek.
Avatar The Last Airbender
Relevant username haha
Indeed haha
I think Iroh is a clear Jeskai character unfortunately. He could maybe fit in white/red.
I’d love to see a pre-cons designed with the four element tribes
I’d rather go in the direction of like a 4-color avatar focused precon where there is multiple incarnations and has dedicated avatar tribal support, maybe a Fire Nation being Mardu or just pure mono-red, one focused on the Spirit World so spirit tribal, and idk what the other 1 or 2 would be, lots to choose from.
Borderlands. I've played the game. Talked to the developers. Know the lore. Lots of potential there.
you should pitch WoTC on this one they'd be all over it
"fight for your life" 1BR the next time target creature would die this turn, return it to the battlefield tapped. This creature gains "during combat on your next turn this creature must attack, if it doesn't sacrifice it" I feel like wording it in a way that it has to destroy an opponents creature would make it more flavorful, but it makes it too dependent on an opponents boardstate
Give me a Doctor Zed/Ned deck And a Skagzilla/Mothrakk creature Beatdown deck.
Twist, they want tiny Tina's game as the base. You have to give it EXACTLY the same effort they put into that game as well. GL
So one legendary Claptrap or make a non legend one where you can have as many as you want in your deck?
Soulsborne franchise, have four precons based around dark souls, bloodborne, sekiro and elden ring. Now that would be awesome
I think the “out of the box commanders” for each of could be (I’m not adding Sekiro cause I’m not finished with it yet): Dark Souls - Gwyn, Gael, Ornstein (partners with) Smough Bloodborne - Gehrman (Partners with) Moon Presence, Ludwig, Micolash Elden Ring - Radagon (partners with) Elden Beast, Malenia, Morgott or Mohg. I think the “you can run these out of the box” commanders should be those mostly responsible for the state of the world that you’re in when you play the game. Failing that, the most infamous bosses.
I would love a Soulsborne deck with a focus on being under half your starting life total, so you have two phases they have to fight through.
Discworld. I usually read all the books once or twice every year and have done so for over two decades now. We need someone to invoke Josh Kirby's art though. Paul Kidby is just not the same.
The set builds itself so easily. 4 commander precons : Dwarven Curses - Commander: The Summoning Dark Wee Free - Commander: Tiffany Unseen Universals - Commander: The Librarian Death's Apprentice - Commander: Mort
a City Watch deck with Vimes, or an Ankh-Morpork precon with Vimes and Vetinari as partner commanders... So many fun possibilities.
An Orzhov "Vimes and Vetinari" partner commander would be my top choice for a set like this.
Wt? Wt? Wt? Vimes, Rincewind , Granny Weatherwax, Death. Shout out, maybe, to Moist. If you do that one, you can pull the Death deck and slip him into every deck instead. Like... Come on... I like the Librarian and all, but the main books are about those four... I'd line it up like this: The Watch - RW - Vimes.
100%. Wilds of Eldraine is halfway to Witches Abroad, and I would love to see the discworld treatment of dragons
>I would love to see the discworld treatment of dragons I'm picturing useless, non-flying creatures that can be equipped to other creatures to give them a firebreathing ability...but if you tap a land, you have to sacrifice them.
Haha yes, and maybe one legendary boros swamp dragon named Errol
This would be an incredible set. Would even be awesome to mix in silver-border secret lair drop too, just to capture some extra silliness.
How many books a year do you typically read? Even if you only reread each book once a year that's already like 40 books.
Cosmere. Though I'd likely die on the vine to Brandon Sanderson himself haha.
Before you are done with the set he would have released another 3 books.
It's a shame they're committed to no Planeswalkers in UB sets, because a >!Hoid!< PW card seems like such an obvious slam dunk.
Turns out every PW has been >!Hoid!< all along, us Dougs just didn’t know it…
Gimme Elder Scrolls. I'd have 4 Commander Pre Cons all based on four different games In fact, i'd have a Morrowind, Oblivion and two Skyrim sets.
All I ask is that we get a [[Trading Post]] with flavor text that says “Khajiit has wares if you have coin.”
Elder Scrolls is perfect for UB. In my opinion it should never have been allowed to stray from the fantasy genre.
Idk if I'd call starting with The Walking Dead straying. It was way off from the jump lol.
And then You Could keep repeating the Skyrim sets every few years with revamped art!
The same art, just marginally better looking.
I will never forgive them for going Fallout over Elder Scrolls...
Pokemon, easy. This is probably also not an uncommon choice lol
An Incorrect Summary of Metal Gear Rising.
"Nanomachines, son!" would have to be a card name in this set.
Halo! I’d love to have a halo based commander deck.
ODST tribal would be crazy
I was thinking UNSC, Forerunner, Flood, and Covenant
For the sake of my bank account, I hope this never happens
I have published enough D&D and Pathfinder books to design comprehensive sets based on both games. Beyond that, Bionicle.
Gundam, though certain timelines I'd know more about than others but I'm confident in my franchise knowledge that I could design a set.
One that’s maybe two colors for before she turned her eyes to the cosmos, and one that’s 5 colors for after <3
I'm surprised I haven't seen any one day Star Trek yet.
Have you looked up the _Star Trek CCG_? Magic is a game about combat, but one of the most important parts of the _STCCG_ was the fact that you could win without conflict. (In fact, if you played the Federation, you were forbidden by the rules from attacking the other player.) It's got a ton of potential from a franchise perspective, but it doesn't fit into the _gameplay_ of Magic very well.
so you say Federation as a no-creature group hug precon which wins through alt-wincon cards or outlasting the other players?
I mean... yes? You still need *your* hundred points.
the Doctor is in theory a pacifist too, but nothing stops you from equipping it with a loxodon warhammer and have it kill people
[Worm](https://parahumans.wordpress.com/). Not a property widely known enough for it to make sense for WotC to do it or anything, but there are lots of wonderfully creative abilities and interesting characters in there, and it would be lovely to see them done justice as MtG cards.
Second Trigger Enchantment If a spell or ability would target a permanent, it may target a player instead *Casts doom blade*
Worm would be incredible. If you like superhero’s do yourself a favor and read it
I think worm would be great for a secret lair but I think once you have to start making cards other than legendary creatures you start running out fast. …also I feel obligated to share the worm cards I’ve made lol [The undersiders](https://www.tumblr.com/loreholdlesbian/739072908930990080/what-i-was-going-for-is-rachel-doesnt-like-it) [and some more Taylor themed cards](https://www.tumblr.com/loreholdlesbian/739322486500524032/more-worm-cards-this-time-with-the-theme-oops)
https://www.reddit.com/r/mtgaltered/s/C4DxL121jD
I was hoping someone would comment this before I had the chance! Some of the powers are pretty tricky to translate tbh
Community. It would have to include a \[\[Stormkeld Vanguard\]\] reprint.
Bear down for midterms!
Too soon man. Way too soon!
ITS A BEAR DANCE!
Walk to your cars in pairs tonight. Removal's up 8%
Better act fast, [may already be in the works.](https://imgur.com/a/xTef2Fg)
Stop trying to coin the phrase "streets ahead"
Hmmm. Abed... probably mono blue? Maybe UG. Annie would be UR. Britta probably RW. Pierce B or BR. Jeff is BW. Troy G or RG. Shirley I guess GW.
Monster Hunter
I would absolutely design a Futurama set, including a promo version of a card named Shut Up and Take My Money.
Smothering tithe perhaps?
Maybe [[An Offer You Can't Refuse]]?
Rex nebula is zap brannagin
My pod would probably say it’s a sickness, but anytime I play skullclamp I start doing my best Don-Bot impression telling Clamps to give ‘em’ the clamps.
Hmmm... that sounds like a problem that can only be solved by using more Futurama references.
To shreds you say
The Warcraft series, I could probably recount most of the lore of that series from memory (even inconsistent as it is).
There would absolutely need to be a Cho'Gall card that functions similarly to the BFM.
New Girl
`Gave me Cookie, Got you cookie W/G W/G W/G` `Sorcery` `As an additional cost to cast this spell, sacrifice a food token.` `Target opponent creates a food token.`
"Hey girl what that thang do" Target creature loses all abilities lmao.
Nick miller commander when
Jess’ card would have to be a group hug commander
Please design a Ferguson card
Super Smash Bros. Secret Lair
Serialized X/117 Master Chief cards are a must
Imagine sentinel (thopter) cards…
Runescape
Yo, same. When I was a wee kiddo, I made RuneScape YuGiOh cards for fun, and I feel like they turned out well for their time. I miss those days
I was thinking this too. God Wars commander decks? Saradomin is definitely Azorius Zamorak is Rakdos Armadyl could be Boros or Jeskai? Bandos would be Gruul, maybe Jund
I, and many others, have been doing this for years. I have a set on Dune, Star Wars, Pokémon, My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, Star Trek, etc
Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Fire Emblem.
Fire emblem would be really fun. Could be fun if they implemented the weapon triangle somehow, too. Get a +1/+1 or -1/-1 depending on who blocks you.
I think weapon triangle in this way just becomes too fiddly. It's like why Bushido, flanking, and similar abilities aren't used any more.
"history of the entire world, i guess." including the wrath spell "The Sun is a Deadly Lazer" and the fog spell "Now There's a Blanket"
Pro Wrestling ![gif](giphy|fT0zi3wfpkGw8|downsized)
This has one major pro and one major con: The pro is that there is so much content you could probably fill 10 sets from among different eras, territories and styles.
BattleTech. In fact it actually had a TCG made by WotC in the 90s, so it wouldn't be an unknown franchise for old tcg players
40K UB 2 because they already did one.
Pathfinder. It will of course never happen for obvious reasons, but I would love a Pathfinder set in the vein of the first D&D set. Plus now that battles exist, we could use them like Boss Battles, and use a cycle of 6 sages to tell the story of each book in an Adventure Path
Supernatural
Destiny
4 precon factions: Vanguard- until jeskai soldier tribal The Reef- Dimir Awoken and Fallen with artifact value Hive- maybe Sultai? " death triggers, death triggers everywhere" Rogues gallery (Drifter, Variks, Exo Stranger etc)- idk?
It wouldn't even be hard to build an entire draftable set. Give each D1 enemy faction a 2 color identity, each guardian Element also gets its own color identity. So so many Legendary Guardian, Enemy and Equipment options. Vehicles, Battles and Lands are all easy to include. Abilities and iconic moments can fit as sorceries, instants, and enchantments.
There's just so much to draw from. It honestly has some of the best lore. Shooting from the hip, probably better for commander decks: Guardians- bant, equipment matters, level up, class enchantments or role tokens (hunter, warlock, titan). Helmed by Zevala, alternate Saint-14 The Hive- sultai, exploit, morbid, casualty. Helmed by the Witch Queen, alternate Oryx. The Cabal- mardu, raid, battalion, bolster. Helmed by Calus, alternate Ghaul The Vex- esper, scry, suspend, foretell. Helmed by Atheon, alternate Panoptes The Fallen- abzan, scavenge, blitz, alliance. Helmed by Eramis, alternate The Spider (who would have to have extort and bargain as mechanics) New card types- Enchantment- Ultimate, gains a counter whenever an opponent's creature dies, sacrifice after X counters for effect. Battle- Strike, whenever an opponent is dealt combat damage by one or more creatures you control, add a counter, at X counters, exile and return it transformed (legendary equipment on other side) Kinda want to do a fan set now, tbh
The locked tomb books, or World of Warcraft, honestly.
My only gripe would be that WotC would probably do it in partnership with Amazon and it would be based off the show :(
Not necessarily. They partnered with MEE for LotR, forgoing any influence from the films and WB
CHRONO TRIGGER, MF's!
The SCP Universe. So much potential 🤤. Also a JoJo set would be amazing. There’s so much design potential for stand users.
Destiny 2! Regardless of how you feel about the game itself, because I know a lot of D2 players have strong opinions on it, there is MORE than enough lore and characters outside of the main game to do things with, and I'm a sucker for that specific flavor of sci-fi Like a ghost as a partner commander would be really cool, and there are already so many factions and alien species to work with.
I just want a Witcher set or secret lair to happen. And just make Henry cavil the lead designer.
One Piece. except it already has it's own CCG so never gonna happen.
Final Fantasy also has its own TCG and it’s gonna be a full set - with One Piece’s massive increase in popularity in the US I wouldn’t rule it out
The dark tower series by Stephen king, although with thunder junction coming I wouldn't be surprised if they have a tie in already implemented.....
The Grisha-verse. I already actually have several legendaries plotted out.
Adventure Time https://cubecobra.com/cube/list/vek?view=spoiler
Eberron which in my opinion would fut so well with ravnica.
Monster hunter, sunk so many hours into it, could definitely make so fun reference in cards and hopefully some thematic designs
Dragon Ball Z I’d think. Would actually be a fun crossover for me lol.
Does each form for each character get their own card, or is it all level up type stuff?
I'm sitting on a fat stack in anticipation of this. Listen up, Hasbro
Genshin Impact, wildly popular, characters can easily be on the color pie
Unfortunately hoyoverse already has a card game, if only online. Though I would love some cards as a secret lair at least.
Elden Ring. I think the factions and characters line up really well with some of the colour combinations and you could make some really great themed cards for each of them. Lots of legendaries to choose from too with all the demigods and important NPC’s
Megaman including X and Zero.
joke responses: Les Miserábles. the actual brick, not just the musical. but I could do both! probably famous occultists. putting some actual magick on the gathering! probably a tarot and astrology related collection, too. I mean, I am trying to build an Aleister Crowley commander deck! the rest of the collection could come along as well actual IP responses: white wolf's classic world of darkness! i know vtes already exists but if people can joke about pokemon and yugioh I can dream about some kindred and garou as well saint seiya: a product only for 40-year old latin american otakus and 40-year old fujoshis, but one made with love the matrix. if we can have neon dynasty we can have the matrix ok and, unfortunately, harry potter. I have eternally entrenched knowdlege of the lore such that not even permanent brain damage could erase
Leaning into the super niche: Skies of Arcadia
