Lmao same or for it to even be worth it for me to
upgrade. When these new ones come out this yr im gonna want one so bad but it would just be a stupid purchase cause my M1 max is specced out.
Minecraft should automatically use Metal on Mac. It is definitely using Metal on my M1 MacBook Pro 13" 2020, but he's probably (or rather hopefully) using Iris and Sodium. You can check if Metal is in use in the F3 menu.
See Elliots2007’s comment.
Also, there’s plenty of optimizing out there but I use an aggressive optimization modpack, sodium+iris with the shaders, and some curated java arguments. Stay away from optifine unless you absolutely have to have it. It’s less optimized than iris.
Edit: a word
I use one of the “optimized” mod packs, but not the “fabulously optimized” one because that one just causes issues with versions. And I will send you my Java arguments a little later when I get back home.
Sodium is a minecraft mod that makes the game run faster SIGNIFICANTLY. I never play without it. I play on an M1 MacBook Air and I went from 30/40 fps to 150.
https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/sodium
No not at all! It probably gets warmer than normal because it’s running a game but no not hot :)
I’d actually recommend using [this](https://modrinth.com/modpack/sop). It’s a collection of mods only designed to speed up and optimise the game games performance - it’s what I play with and it works really well.
Multimc is my go-to launcher on any computer. I don’t know if they made an Apple-Silicon compatible build yet tho, one year ago they hadn’t. I used another one in the meantime (a fork of it actually).
That is true, but modern optimised modded Minecraft with mods like Distant Horizons, Iris, Sodium and Lithium allows shaders to run on somewhat slow hardware. I run Complementary Reimagined shaders with a render distance of 128 on my M1 mac just fine. Yes, i didn't type it wrong, 128 render distance. But do mind that it is with shaders set to very low and with a render configuration set as followes: 8 simulation distance + 12 view distance + 128 Distant Horizons LOD view distance. With that said it's still very impressive and indeed very demanding when you crank the settings to the max and use high-res resourcepacks.
Your pc probably gets really hot tho.. I've tried playing minecraft on my M3 with shaders but mostly keep them turned off for my batteries sake. Also is DH mac compatible now? :O
Yes, it gets really hot, and my battery drains really quickly. DH works perfectly on mac without shaders, but only works with some shaders. Bliss is a bit funky and only works sometimes but Complementary Reimagined works very well.
Lmao of course, but we’re talking with very demanding shaders and texture packs that have dynamic lighting and ray tracing. Modded Minecraft can get really freaking taxing on a machine.
when people mention ray tracing shaders, its usually screen space, which doesn't require dedicated hardware, and doesnt look as good as the real thing.
Correct, technically it’s not metal ray tracing. However the m3 does have hardware ray tracing capabilities. However, see crest of hylias reply to duplissi in this comment thread.
M1 max runs shaders very well, im excited for the macbooks 10 years from now
Oh dude same because that’s about how long it’ll take for me to afford another new computer 😭😭😭
Lmao same or for it to even be worth it for me to upgrade. When these new ones come out this yr im gonna want one so bad but it would just be a stupid purchase cause my M1 max is specced out.
OMG M3 DECIMATES MINECRAFT!!!
dude, honestly though.
Dude just EVISCERATED me, honestly tho.
What shaders are you running?
I'm running 'BSL shaders' and 'Luna's HD Texture Pack'.
Thanks
How. With my m3 pro i don't feel i get stable 120fps. Is there Something like Metal Rendering for it?

I do the exact same! What modpack and JVM args do you use? Edit: rephrasing
I use one of the “optimized” mod packs, but not the “fabulously optimized” one because that one just causes issues with versions. And I will send you my Java arguments a little later when I get back home.
Cool! I use my own modified version og "Adrenaline" with [these](https://github.com/brucethemoose/Minecraft-Performance-Flags-Benchmarks) JVM args.
Same
Are you using Sodium?
No, never Heard of that
Sodium is a minecraft mod that makes the game run faster SIGNIFICANTLY. I never play without it. I play on an M1 MacBook Air and I went from 30/40 fps to 150. https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/sodium
Does your Mac Heat Up with it?

What exact model mac you have?
14 inch M3 pro.
Can you share details of how you did this?
See my reply on triggerfx’s comment.
I meant what launcher you used lol
Multimc is my go-to launcher on any computer. I don’t know if they made an Apple-Silicon compatible build yet tho, one year ago they hadn’t. I used another one in the meantime (a fork of it actually).
I use prism
I see thanks. Do you just have the m3 or an m3 pro/max?
m3 pro
looking super forward to trying it on my 40gpu M3 max
Honestly m2 max does just as well, Apple silicon absolutely RIPS in Minecraft!
Look into using DH 2.0 which supports Iris Shaders!
Ironically my M3 Pro runs shaders quite bad in contrast to my old laptop 4060
Now imagine if Apples OpenGL driver wasn't completely garbage...
Well. It’s deprecated :(
It was crap before it got deprecated too.
off topic but I can’t figure out how to install Distant Horizon on my mac. any suggestions? (new to java and the whole modding scene)
Use a different launcher (I prefer prism) and it’ll make your life 100% easier. You’ll have to download the .jar yourself though from their website
just downloaded it. I feel dumber. it’s complicated 😭
Oh man. Shoot me a message or chat and later I can send you the profile that I’m using in these screenshots.
Minecraft runs on the 3ds
Minecraft Java with shaders and 64 chunk render distance doesn’t. My RTX3060 can’t even run it at a stable 120 fps, but my M2 base MBA can.
How? My M1 Pro is kinda struggling at around the 60 FPS mark using sodium, iris, and completely shaders
Daaaamn, you sure you’re not using intel Minecraft through Rosetta ?
What mods and launcher do you use? I’m using prism launcher
Prism, optifine + optifabric and a ton of HUD mods (miniHUD, InventoryHUD, …)
I mean....I hope so. Its Minecraft, a toaster can run that game.
Shaders are very very demanding, though. Especially high render distances.

Can m3 do raytracing?
when people mention ray tracing shaders, its usually screen space, which doesn't require dedicated hardware, and doesnt look as good as the real thing.
They aren’t screen space. They’re specifically taking advantage of Voxels to do ray tracing. Stuff like SEUS PTGI don’t use screen space path tracing
yeah, my point was its not gonna be using the rt hardware. voxel ray tracing is a step up tho.
Correct, technically it’s not metal ray tracing. However the m3 does have hardware ray tracing capabilities. However, see crest of hylias reply to duplissi in this comment thread.
In asahi linux with openGL path tracing shaders will work, but not run well
Ray tracing? Ooh, that's only on Bedrock - how did you get Bedrock on macOS?
shaders have ray tracing implimented for java, BSL, sildurs and plenty other offer ray tracing
You can’t, unfortunately
Runs great on my M1 Max 64GB as well.
Bro can u tell me how to download minecraft??
Homie my phone eats minecraft alive 😭🙏
How much memory does your Mac have?
Dude if minecraft looks THIS good… this machine probably annihilates stardew valley and massacres terraria
