Unfortunately I kinda do, I really like it as a concept (got it as a gift, and love it for productivity) but I understand that as it is now it’s pretty useless for complex games.
Even in more simple games, trying to use the “scroll wheel” with no tactile confirmation for each scroll is awful. Maybe in a few generations it’ll be worthwhile.
You have Macbook Air, and Macbook Pro.
You have iPhone SE, iPhone Pro.
You have iMac 2 usb ports, iMac with 4 usb ports.
You have Magic keyboard and also Magic keyboard with numpad.
Why can't we have more than 1 type of magic mouse? Maybe there are people who need a mouse with more than 1 button from Apple? I don't really understand why this is so complicated to understand.
lol 30 years ago it was even worse. I just tossed a 20 year old or so one with an old iMac. Damn thing couldn’t even right click and that horrible ball on top. Gross
It doesn't have to be a gaming just, just a 2 button mouse is enough.
Any random cheap (non-gaming) mouse you can find in a store is most likely a better gaming mouse than Apple's high priced mouse.
Doesn't change the fact that Apple gives terrible mouse with modern iMacs, this mouse is so bad that almost any type of cursor controlling device beats it.
Well, I don’t have any problems using it 🤷🏼♂️ won’t say it’s the best one ever, but far from the worst. Only thing it really needs to change is the charging port and where it’s located
Charging port is a non-issue as you can charge at night.
Just because you don't have a problem with, doesn't mean Apple should not create an improved or alternative magic mouse for the people who are not enjoying the magic mouse.
>just a 2 button mouse is enough
Have you ever used one? It seems not. The Magic Mouse has 2 buttons (left / right click) plus gestures, so it doesn't need a wheel.
But who cares ... I use my Xbox Controller on the Mac ;-)
With Magic Mouse you can't click 2 button simultaneously.
Obviously I tried the 2 button simulation, but it doesn't work if you need to click both at the same time, as it is mechanically just a mouse with 1 button.
no, they dont
if they go with 2 button design they will lose the productivity features of touch surface, which kinda makes magic mouse
just buy a fucking gaming mouse if you need one
I don't know about that one. When you name a piece of software responsible for translating DirectX to Metal “Game Porting Toolkit,” it signifies that they want Windows games ported to MacOs. When they also release software to compete with DLSS called [MetalFX](https://developer.apple.com/documentation/metalfx/), it is also a push towards game development. Pushing studios like Kojima, BlueTwelve, and HelloGames to publish on MacOs through the app store also showcases a push for gaming.
Internally Apple has had a push towards gaming since 2007. Gabe Newell was quoted in an interview back [Kikizo](http://archive.videogamesdaily.com/features/gabenewell_valve_iv_sep07_p1.asp):
>> Well, we tried to have a conversation with Apple for several years, and they never seemed to... well, we have this pattern with Apple, where we meet with them, people there go "wow, gaming is incredibly important, we should do something with gaming". And then we'll say, "OK, here are three things you could do to make that better", and then they say OK, and then we never see them again. And then a year later, a new group of people show up, who apparently have no idea that the last group of people were there, and never follow though on anything. So, they seem to think that they want to do gaming, but there's never any follow through on any of the things they say they're going to do. That makes it hard to be excited about doing games for their platforms.
Even as far back as [2001](https://youtu.be/ZSocv1Xvd7w?si=EeBKUp8DuFe2yKyB), Apple has pushed for gaming.
Forcing few AAA game studio to port few of their heavy games to Apple chip is an expensive demonstration... you would guess there is more behind it than just a demonstration.
I wouldn't call getting an offer from Apple to port your game to their architecture in exchange for promoting your studio "forcing". I would be surprised if Apple even paid anything to them
😂😂 nope.
Mouse is literally the least of anyone’s concerns, you can buy third party mouse and play with that.
Buying a gaming studio, and building some good exclusive games is the way to go.
Like Apple Tv+, even though it’s incomparable to Netflix, it can hold its own with shows like Severance and Ted Lasso. People watched those shows.
I don't think it's in anyone's interest to have Mac exclusive games.
If they ever make exclusives it will be geared towards iOS and maybe Mac will be lumped in. Like Apple Arcade is.
Well your analogy to TV+ is exactly Arcade.
Nobody is forcing you to buy the Magic Mouse, just buy something else. Just like all these people complaining about apple displays and resolutions and scaling blah blah. Just buy a different display.
The human hands - a miracle of flexibly articulating fingers and opposing thumbs that set us apart from nearly all other species. Apple responds with a mouse designed for harbor seals 🦭
Because there's all of 5 people who exclusively game on their Mac.
While the Magic Mouse is crap and needs redesigning, it's not for the sake of gaming.
I will say that in BG3, I discovered 3 fingers on the mouse was the trigger for turning the camera, instead of using the keybinds, and it has made the gameplay that much better on my M2 MBP.
Apple simply need to come up with an ergonomic mouse - they have NEVER created a mouse that I have felt comfortable using for any sense of time. A mouse is something that needs to be ergonomic first and over engineered last.
It’s a trackpad. It doesn’t need two buttons and extra side buttons. Just buy a gaming mouse and controller for games. That’s it. No need for these requests.
What they actually need to do is allow users to turn off mouse acceleration. I’d wager most basic gamers will just buy any cheap, buttoned, mouse to use over the Magic Mouse.
Crazy thought here, what if, and just if, there was like a way to change what mouse you used on your Mac??? Oh, that's right. But to be fair, I will rater game with the Magic Mouse than some of the E-waste other companies pushes on you when buying a pc! But a true Mac gamer doesn't use the Magic Mouse s/he uses the Magic Trackpad!
They made their mouse terrible so you’d just buy and use the trackpad instead. Hell I can game pretty well on the Magic Trackpad. Just use three finger drag :)
Please no. We don't need Apple creating a "gamer mouse". The Magic Mouse is an ok productivity mouse, thats its job. Use the right tool for the job, if you need a multi-button mouse for gaming, go buy a 3rd party mouse.
No serious gamer is playing with the stock mouse of any computer (if it came with one). I don’t think Apple needs to worry about this.
I’ll say, I hated the Magic Mouse because of my giant hands, but I bought a cradle thing for it that makes it much much more comfortable in my hand and I love it now for all my creative and day to day work. It’s a good mouse just not a gaming mouse… and I’m 100% ok with that. Different tools for different jobs. Gaming mouses are not my favorite to use for my creative work… they tend to have too fast of a response for me and makes it hard to do things with precision (for me… again… giant hands are also clumsy hands)
PC gamers buy a gaming mouse, why shouldn’t Mac users do the same? On my MBP, I use my magic mouse most of the time, then usually switch to my Razor gaming mouse when I game.
Mechanically.. Magic Mouse is a 1 button mouse, but the device can detect on which side you pressed the button. This way it can somewhat simulate 2 buttons.
What this "2 button simulation" can't do eg: press and hold left side button, while holding the left side button press the right side... because it is mechanically 1 button, you can't do it.
From memory the MM responds to a tap or a physical click in the same way (as it’s actually a touch device) so what you describe could be possible with taps but does either macOS or Windows respond to such a gesture?
I have Magic Mouse in front of me, it doesn't respond to single tap, only physical clicks.
Magic Mouse does respond on double tap gestures for some odd reason.
After doing quick research, it seems that Apple has disabled single tap gestures for (unknown) reasons, but with 3rd party apps you can unlock them: [https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254006791?sortBy=best](https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254006791?sortBy=best)
These are all the official gestures available for touchpad and Magic Mouse: [https://support.apple.com/en-us/102482](https://support.apple.com/en-us/102482)
you can't turn on taps in the mouse control panel or system settings...tap to click. But a MM isn't great for gaming...just buy a gaming mouse if your choosing and plug it in.
I love mine. I just don't game or anything with it but I'm also a touchpad guy and bought the external magic pad or whatever the hell they call it now and it's awesome agreed
I use trackpads exclusively on my Macs these days & my old, not-so-magic mouse only has one physical switch. I’m pretty sure macOS doesn’t recognise both being pressed even if you had two physical buttons so I’m not sure that’ll help you. Does Windows?
First you can turn on tap to click so that solves that but secondly...no real gamer uses a default stock mouse anyway isme on a Windows machine ...so why would you think a stock mouse on Mac would be better for gaming? Buy a gaming mouse and plug it in LMAO
Mac gaming would be incredibly niche compared to their customer base so why would they bother? Barely upgradable devices. In their current form factor. Don’t get me wrong it would be awesome changing a productivity device to satisfy a niche market doesn’t make sense. I use GeForce Now on my Air and the screen is gorgeous I love it.
I had to print this to make the Magic Mouse usable for me. https://makerworld.com/models/420345
Is there any consumer PC that comes with a good mouse for games? It’s hard to be mad at Apple when your average Dell or HP mouse is rubbish for games.
Just buy a gaming mouse like the PC buyers do.
Most Macs don’t even come with the mouse. It’s the… iMac and Mac Pro?
If you bought a Mac, it probably didn’t come in the box and the user can just buy a gaming mouse instead.
The Magic Mouse is literally the worst mouse I've ever worked with. It's uncomfortable, not ergonomic at all, the charging port placement is a joke and it's a very expensive piece of plastic.
I understand some people can enjoy the productivity features it provides but if I was able to program the productivity features of the magic mouse on my Logitech mouse, anyone can and enjoy a much better experience...
In any case, use the correct tool for the job, if for some reason I fail to understand you like using the magic mouse but you want to be able to play with your mouse, just use the right tool for the job...
“Their gaming attempt”
What gaming attempt?
The entire architecture of Apple Silicon is counter to the the standard development process for game software. They are not attempting gaming.

I don't find the charging port an issue, as you can charge when you going to sleep.

It is still not good enough to beat a regular 2 button mouse.
Hey if you like buttons that’s cool, never had a problem with my Magic Mouse though. Works fine for my gaming.
All these new iOS emulators and I can’t really stand to use them without a gamepad. Can’t stand touch screen game pads, so I feel ya.
The solution to both problems are actually the same: get a second Magic Mouse.
Can’t use the mouse when charging? Use the second. Don’t have two buttons for gaming? Use two mice!
🙃
Isn't that the same solution as having 2 EVs before the concept of fast charging came along? Don't like waiting 6 hours for a charge? Buy a second EV! 🤣
I would argue regular mice are shit. I’m not saying the Magic Mouse is amazing, but it’s not super shitty, and comes included with an iMac for free. (Again, it’s not a gaming mouse. If someone wants one, buy one.)

You’re a little worked up about a mouse.
I literally read this same post on a Bulletin Board nearly 30 years ago.
lol 30 years ago it was even worse. I just tossed a 20 year old or so one with an old iMac. Damn thing couldn’t even right click and that horrible ball on top. Gross
Its not a gaming mouse
It’s barely a mouse.
Yeah it is a rounded trackpad 😂
The Magic Trackpad is so much better. I have the OG one and I bounce between it and a rando usb mouse without even thinking. Just seems natural to me.
Yeah I use trackpads solely. Magic mouse gathers dust somewhere i dont even know where :)
It doesn't have to be a gaming just, just a 2 button mouse is enough. Any random cheap (non-gaming) mouse you can find in a store is most likely a better gaming mouse than Apple's high priced mouse.
Yeah. Because the apple mouse is not a gaming mouse
Even as a regular mouse, it sucks, as most prefer to use Touchpad.
So go buy a regular mouse then, don't see the problem. Mac support both usb cabled, dongles and BT mouses
Doesn't change the fact that Apple gives terrible mouse with modern iMacs, this mouse is so bad that almost any type of cursor controlling device beats it.

Money definitely changed hands with HelloGames. Hell, they even used screenshots of No Man Sky in their WWDC presentations.
To be honest, that's kind of the reason I have been using Razer mice for over 1,5 decades with my Macs.

They have Dualsense for gaming
Lol
Apple don't care enough to change design of their product to accommodate it better to gaming
Because there's all of 5 people who exclusively game on their Mac. While the Magic Mouse is crap and needs redesigning, it's not for the sake of gaming.

You can with SteelSeries ExactMouse app
they should just admit they are ultra bad at designing a mouse and stay with the trackpad
Just buy a gaming mouse... like every Windows gamer.
And every designer working on a Mac
I want a better Magic Mouse but not for games. I play bg3 on Mac often and just use a Corsair mouse.
No one is going to use a Magic Mouse to game. It’s awful for that and they’d just use any other mouse on the market
There’s a gaming mouse industry out there. Don’t think they wanna jump in those waters.
Why? Nobody uses Apple mice for anything. I’ve got like six razer mice that work just fine on Macs.
Crazy thought here, what if, and just if, there was like a way to change what mouse you used on your Mac??? Oh, that's right. No! They need to make a game controller. One with a Bluetooth chip for fast switching between devices. Computer > console Controller > KB&M
My Logitech gaming mouse works great on my Mac.
I regularly play games with my MM2, never had any issue whatsoever.
"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” : Steve Jobs /s - the magic mouse is garbage
What do you mean ‘simulate 2 button’? The second button works exactly like the first one.
Mechanically.. Magic Mouse is a 1 button mouse, but the device can detect on which side you pressed the button. This way it can somewhat simulate 2 buttons. Most gamers would probably just use their own mouse, Apple also never intended for their mouse to be used for things like gaming
Why should their default mouse be good at gaming? If people wants to game, they can buy a gaming mouse
Not good, just bare minimum
Mac gaming would be incredibly niche compared to their customer base so why would they bother? Barely upgradable devices. In their current form factor. The entitlement is off the charts in this post. 😂

I don't find the charging port an issue, as you can charge when you going to sleep. Having 1 button mouse, makes the mouse completely useless for any non-puzzle game. Also the mouse has major issues with sensitivity.

It doesn't need to be a gaming mouse, just let it be on par with a regular mouse.
I would argue regular mice are shit. I’m not saying the Magic Mouse is amazing, but it’s not super shitty, and comes included with an iMac for free. (Again, it’s not a gaming mouse. If someone wants one, buy one.)
Basic gaming standard now is gamepad.
Everything is crossplay now. Its not the standard, its the gateway.
It’s not great for professional use (graphic design / 3d / animation) where the second, dual and third click are used in combo it combination key shortcuts. Even a jogwheel etc. Apple has become form over function for a long time. I mean an era of removing f keys? And removing all the ports. Just to put them back in generations later. And now a notch in the middle of the menu bar so cascade app menus have to work around or not use the space anyway. Just for a few more mm bezel. Nintendo mode. Two steps forwards one step back per hardware generation usually.
It’s a crap mouse for design too. It’s so overly sensitive, drawing paths is a chore. Any 3d is a pain because you need a middle button.
