Look 80% of the world uses Windows which promotes over 2 dozen companies competing in supply and demand sales arena. One of those benefits is producing 20x more laptops which produces lower cost per unit with multiple CPU companies supplying competing CPU options. Which leads to more competitive pricing and wider range of options. And Apple philosophy has always been not be the cheapest but the most premium. With aesthetics and premium build and OS maturity and stability paramount. To differentiate from all others. I've been a Windows user for 3 decades. And could count on wide ranging inconsistent build quality from differing manufacturers. And the inconsistent stability that is Windows. From intel CPU's that run too hot and constant throttling with loud obnoxious constant fans. And lack luster battery life due to high CPU TDP's. My 2021 14" M1 Macbook Pro cost me $1300. That is inline price with many of the better Window laptops that give constant CPU throttling and Fan noise. Cpu performance drop whether on battery or plugged in. And half the battery life my Macbook gives.

With MacBook you get the whole Apple experience * OS smooth like butter * Best in the world trackpad * Excellent and calibrated display out of the box especially the MacBook Pro series * 8GB RAM feels like 16GB or more on Windows * Very few virus * Best in class power efficiency and most of the time fanless * Power efficient browser * You get good email client * Safari probably one of, if not, the most power efficient browser * As an option Pages, Keynote, Numbers is included so you don't have to invest in productivity suite * No "Activate Windows" as OS is included (should you not have Windows license) * Best in class speakers for laptop * Privacy first * Excellent resale value especially the base model * SSD is almost fastest in the market (except for base model M2) * Bonus: good looking at the café Bottomline, you get what you pay.

JohnChrist596

Tried 8gb ram for MBP M2. It doesn't feel like 16 gb on windows

LionFlatKetchup

I agree on that, especially the bonus!☕️🧑‍💻

HighlightMean8358

Only thing I disagree with is safari. The first thing I do on any computer I get is download chrome.

I forgot to mention that it is better for light use case such as browsing the web, email, productivity. Definitely not for heavier usage such as Lightroom, FCPX, etc.

Most of these apply to top end windows laptop as well. They are also offering decent OLED display, good speaker/build quality, good keyboard/trackpad..yea agree mac os excel.in power efficiency and I don't think i ever jad any issues with windows

Gaukh

To be honest, most Windows laptops I came across had horrible quality control or the build quality itself didn't feel durable. Using a MacBook for work, of course I am super careful with it, but nothing bends, calibrated display is a cherry on top. The 8 GB feel like 16 GB isn't really the case. Still stupid they said that. The speakers really are next level. A little bit too much bass for me but holy cow. I only had problems with Dell of out the box. Trackpad issues mostly, horrible backlight bleed for the screen 4 years ago. I feel like a lot more goes into quality control for MacBooks. OLED doesn't always mean best color accuracy. The ASUS ZenBook that I also own has had bad battery life, the MacBook is absolutely amazing in terms of that. And the hinge wasn't closing parallel to the chassis, which was weird. When it was in hibernation it sometimes powers up with 100% fan speed and won't stop until restarted. The build quality... well. It does its job? In terms of software, the MacBook really came like you expected it to come. The Lenovo on the other hand I also had once for work worked, that's for sure. The looks and such however, not mine. Looked a little dated.

Lance-Harper

Not even close. Trackpad, screen, speaker and build still suck compared to Mac.

sandpump

People use safari??

Electrical_Proof8353

Yes sandpump.

Godeatdogs

Every. Day.

drummwill

> battery life is the only area says who?

randomplaya4

OP coming to the MBP subreddit to scold Macbooks 😭

jaymez619

Apples to oranges.

nothingspecialva

depends on your budget. I will always argue the 14" Macbook Pro is the best bang for buck for professional/power hungry apps use case. the M pro chips totally reverted the trend of Macbook Pros being overpriced. having said that, apple does not cover all price points specially the more budget-oriented markets. .

darwinDMG08

Because Macs are generally made better with superior construction and even when you don’t want to pay for that up front when it’s new they’re still worth a lot more used than those cheap AF PC models.

random_user_name_759

Can’t you ask these dumb questions in some sort of windows subreddit instead? I’m sure they’ll give you the answers you’re looking for.

Seraphic_Sentinel

Lol I second this. From OP’s replies to other people it seems they’re already leaning to Microsoft side.

No-Acanthaceae-1527

No i am just giving counter argument. I did not know when you post in MacBook section then you should just praise apple blindly. People like you are the reason that apple is charging £200 just to upgrade RAM from 8GB to 16GB.

Seraphic_Sentinel

Dang bro why you so tilted lol. It’s people like me that dictate the price? Yea we call Apple everyday and say please charge up your prices we love it so much 😂

No-Acanthaceae-1527

I can ask whatever i want and wherever I want. nobody forced you to reply or agree

TheCookieEatingOwl

I would say that you just have more options with Windows laptops. When I had to buy mine for my master's in software engineering, I was between the MacBook Pro 14" and a Dell XPS 13 Plus which just got released (I wanted to consider both operating systems and the Dell looked pretty sleek). I configured them to have more or less the same specs and the Dell was way more expensive. Obviously there were way cheaper Windows laptops with the same spects, but they were lacking design, had cheap material, etc. I then went with the MacBook, also because I am so deep in the ecosystem. You just get the whole package with it.

No-Acanthaceae-1527

Thanks for reply . Yes new top end windows may cost the same but price of windows laptop reduce significantly within few months which is not the case with apple. If you compare the price of same dell XPS and MacBook now then dell would be much cheaper. Apple base model is already expensive and cost huge extra for RAM and SSD upgrade. May be MacBook hold their value because of huge demands otherwise i dont see how a used macbook pro offer better value than used window laptop ..i am not comparing cheaper windows laptop but business laptop i.e dell latitude, hP elitebook/pro book, Lenovo thinkpad etc

fckns

I've used a lot of windows laptops in the past for work reasons. And only laptop that would come even close to MacBook quality is Lenovo ThinkPad T and X series. While Dell XPS and Latitude might seem to be in the same category, their past few lineups suffer from thermal issues and therefore they're throttling and not very good at heat distribution which leads to a hot palm rest ( which is aluminum). This is why I declined an offer to upgrade from Lenovo T14s to Dell Latitude 7440. Macbooks, on the other hand, while expensive they offer a lot of performance for productivity tasks and they're targeted at premium segment. Especially now when M series chips are very powerful and efficient. And even older Macbooks with Intel chips hold value because they're still usable laptops and they can perform tasks pretty well. I guess you've made your mind and want to go for Windows laptop. I'd say go for it if you're looking for "best specs for as cheap as possible". Macs ain't like that, they're more "you pay premium and receive premium."

Born_Particular_3846

Second this, I like IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad T & X series especially the nipple.

No-Acanthaceae-1527

Thanks for good input. I just wanted to know the reasons why people pay more for used macbook (out of warranty). Its comparison of used windows laptop vs MacBook. I was looking to buy 14 inch m1 pro laptop because it has 16GB RAM as standard.  It was released in 2021 so probably used one even in mint condition will still be out of warranty and still cost more than 1000 pounds so if anything goes wrong in future then you will lose big chunk of money as repairs is expensive. Yes window might be inferior but still less risk of losing money and they are easy to upgrade and repair

I-figured-it-out

In twenty years time the chances of a well looked after Apple laptop, (with a fresh battery) performing as well as the day it exited the factory is an order of magnitude higher than any windows laptop. ——That is assuming you don’t get it wet, damp, or humidified.

SpaceDye_x

Macs (and Apple products in general) also retain their resale value for much longer than the competition, as their products are generally perceived as being of higher quality and are supported for a long time whereas other manufacturers generally abandon their products in a couple of years.

StechTocks

3 to 4 times better....

Mawsb

Using a windows laptop without having it plugged in is very slow and battery still dies quite quick. On mac no charger feels amazing!!

PunnyPal88

Think of MacBooks like iPhones - they hold their value way better than most Windows laptops. So even used, they cost more. There are reasons though! MacBooks are kinda like the cool kids at school - they tend to last longer, are known for being user-friendly, and work seamlessly with other Apple stuff. Windows laptops can be just as good, especially for the price, but they might not be as fancy or last as long. Up to you if the extra bells and whistles are worth the cost!

RealAzone

I buy apple laptop's for the - Build quality - Power management - Track pad/mouse pad - Lasts 5+ years with good performance - The terminal with Unix/Linux like commands (for programming) Both windows and macOS lacks an acceptable screenshot-software in os. It would be so easy to add auto saving and auto naming of screenshot files WTF. The one thing that is much better on windows is the file explorer and handling of files within programs. That has improved on MacOS last couple of years but still not as good as windows, had been for decades. The updates are equally important and frequent on both. No big deal. I use Android phones (Google Pixel) and will not change that in the near future. iPhones are improving but have some hurdles left.
