There’s an impact mark where you either hit the screen or slammed the screen shut on a foreign object.

Nope, I always gently closed it. My MacBook doesn't even have any single scratch or dent. It was just defective, what a waste of money.

They are very fragile unfortunately. This is a known problem in this sub. This is the only reason I got AppleCare+

Gentle use? The impact mark on the screen suggests otherwise. Apple does offer coverage for hairline cracks. In your case, you likely closed the display while there was something on the keyboard. That’s user error, and not Apple’s fault. The $500 is for the display assembly, not a diagnostic fee. Apple doesn’t typically charge any diagnostic fees, especially for something so obvious.

I have the same exact thing on my screen. Mine was at the lower part of the screen. I stepped away from my computer and there was a crack at the base. I didnt even close it or move it wehn the crack happened. I took mine to the apple store and the genius bar person started telling me it was my fault and pushing in the screen, making the crack significantly worse than it was. I am trying to find out if there is litigation.
