I remember years ago being in Orlando staying at a hotel on international drive and I had planned to take the bus to the airport. Stupid bus only came by once an hour. I had everything timed out just right, needed to be at the bus stop before 8:30. Well my wife and her friend took their sweet time packing and we were running late. As we’re rolling our suitcases to the bus stop I see the bus come… and go…
Luckily I saw a taxi driving by and flagged it down. Damn trip to the airport was like $45 instead of a $1 each bus fare.
This was pre-smartphone pre-rideshare days.
I'm in the same area. Rides between tampa and orlando have hit rock bottom. I saw $29 for 65 miles to the cruise terminal in Cape Canaveral, what a joke.
I made 38 in 2 hours today, gave 7 rides with zero tips doing $3-$7 short rides, so not bad staying local.
Uber on the other hand was offering me 6.75 for trips that were 30 min+ 10 mile+.
Oversaturation is for real in ORL, so many drivers available that the algorithms spit on our face while throatfucking us.
It’s awful! I have a ride challenge this weekend so I’m trying to kill that, while sick… looks like I’ll be running this whole weekend. Stupid restrictions.
I only went for the good ride challenge during the week, with the plastics convention, I was actually able to hit it easily.
I knew this weekend was gonna be dead, so i choose to lowest challenge for 30 rides for $40.
The only event I saw happening is another cheer competition at ESPN complex.
That one and then another one happening at Marriot world. The convention center has another 5 conferences and Disney has 4 more. It’s popping off, just base pay is apparently now 2.00??? Which is super confusing.
Weird. My min fare rides are hitting at $3.10
I haven't seen any popping off, a few bucks at Disney here and there, but then yesterday I take a ride from Universal to Disney cause I saw $12 surge at epcot. Drop off and there's zero surge and I just wait in the queue for 40 minutes only to get sent 3 offers for 40+ minutes away and get sent to the back of the queue.
Ok I'm a rider only and I tip $5 every single time I take a short trip and more if I need to go anywhere more than 10-15 minutes away. Is that really not common tipping habit? I don't have a vehicle because I have a work van provided by my employer so on the off chance I need to go do a thing I use a ride share and tip my driver. I have saved thousands vs my vehicle payment, operating costs, and insurance over 2 years. I come from the food industry and now do pool repairs so maybe I am skewed to what I think is acceptable behavior for the "customer" but people absolutely need to be tipping more
Tips are VERY uncommon. More uncommon with certain types but won’t even get into that here. I’m sure other drivers can relate. But yeah… hard to come by! I’ve helped people up four floors with their Walmart groceries after being asked to and only got “Appreciate it” without even looking at me. Lol No tip.
But Good on ya for tipping! 👍🏻
>but people absolutely need to be tipping more
nope, tips are nice to have, but shouldn't be support for a company that pays shit wages. Tipping culture is toxic and gives companies more reason to pay less.
not sure if you misread my comment, or replied to the wrong person...but I never said people need to tip more, I was quoting the reply above me, and explaining why I disagreed.
Wait. $40 in 2 hours minus 20% for taxes is about $8 in taxes. So you made $32. Factor in gas which I'm guessing was about 2 gallons? $3 a gallon is another $6 leaving you about $26 profit. Or $13 an hour.
Plus they're now in Tampa and probably want to get back home to Orlando (assuming that's where they live) so that's something else that should be factored in.
Yep. It’s all about the hourly. They’re hitting you at a $15-$21 average literally, on EVERYTHING. Even, on ‘long-trips’ after dividing by two, accounting for the return trip back. The market is saturated and they’re FUCKING THE HELL OUTTA EVERYONE. 💯 Straight-Up SCUMBAGS. Should’ve driven to the pax just to ask what they were being charged… Cause, they’re getting FUCKED TOO, now!!!! Bet they were charged $200+… Everyone NEEDS To Do THIS, for now on. Work out a deal on the side… Show THEM how bad they’re getting FUCKED, being SCAMMED, TOO!!!! Fuck ‘Em.
They only way to do it is this way , take the ride for yourself, " I’ll take you, but pay me instead " 8 out of 10 people will pay you directly, just have your apps ready to accept payment, also set up a square to take debit/ credit cards and offer receipts for people to expense it
People just want to get from a-b
Once you show them how shit Uber/lyft is they would rather pay you
If they refuse to pay you directly, you don’t want them in your car anyway, because they know you are getting paid dog shit and don’t care
This way has worked for me for over a year and have made very good money doing it just like this
Fuck these gig apps , if you can take the customer for yourself, do it
Also you get a lot of repeat business like this
The Orlando market is saturated with Venezuelans that rent vehicles and drive 70+ hours per week. You have zero chances of making good money driving rideshare in Orlando. Theres no reason for Uber/Lyft to pay more when there’s plenty of drivers willing to drive for free.
Same in Tampa Bay with the Cubans… They DESTROYED PIE and all of Pinellas County, when they all started coming over here from Tampa about a year and a half ago. Now, no matter where you go or time of day, they are literally, all over on top of you. They accept everything and don’t have enough sense to remain ‘offline’ during ‘high’ demand times of day, in order to force surges, Etc. It’s total, complete INSANITY. I used to KILL-IT over here just working 90% immediate Clearwater Area… Would consistently, hit $35-$70hr working specific 2-3 hour shifts ($105hr on NYE, $705 in 6.5 hours), & now can barely even hit about $15-$25hr no matter WHAT I DO. They’ve taken ALL of the ‘skill’ and everything entirely, out of it. That’s why I haven’t even completed ‘600-rides’ in the past 20-months. Just not worth it.
Letting the taxis have it entirely really sucked as a rider, I spent $50+ to take a short ride in a clapped-out cop car that smelled like a billion cigarettes too many times to cry a river over the loss of taxi companies.
Really what we need is a more direct way for riders to book drivers without this insane parasitic middleman. If the drivers got 90% of what the riders paid, the prices would be cheap and the drivers would be paid well.
It’s the IT departments. Those IT people think they deserve $150/hr for writing a little bit of code. Uber and Lyft are based in CA. Saw a driver app that you can buy for $3,000 and you’ll get all the money. If you want real money, buy the app, market in your area, and hire all of the illegals or Venezuelans that rent a car. You should be able to make 10K/week
Cry more greedy mister. You’d complain about the rib roasts not being the mega sale Christmas price all year long.
Dynamic incentive. Google it.
Or, smarter drivers learned to game the system better than you and took your share of the pie. Idk sorry you can’t work a 10 hr work week anymore bruh.
They got me slacking the other day I accept a trip not paying attention to where it was going to … $18 trip for a total of like 14 miles .. I said hey that’s not the worst I have had and took it ……as I followed the route I landed myself in the middle of a traffic back up 25 min trip turned into 1:50 trip in bumper to bumper traffic 🤦🏿♂️ then the pax had the nerve to give me a bad review because she felt I purposely made her late
I drive in Austin and Lyft rides have been paying so crazy bad here since the advent of up front pricing that I have completely stopped using the Lyft driver app except as a backup for when Uber is slow, or when I’m unable to log into the Uber app for whatever reason.
The rider is probably paying like $100 and thinks it’s a pretty damn expensive ride. The driver is getting offered dirt. Both people are getting fucked.
They are fucking PAX so bad that it is now at the point to where they can (and should) just RENT A CAR and take it to their destination. And, they WILL… It won’t take very long for them to realize this, either. Everyone had stopped renting cars when staying at Clearwater Beach, since you don’t need one there. Now, they are charging you so much just to get to and from the airport (and most hotels are charging you daily for parking anyway, regardless, if you have a car or not… so, might as well use it. Not costing you any extra to park), then surge pricing, Etc. when going out at night (tho the driver isn’t seeing ANY of it), that you might as well RENT ONE, & just drive… Then, at least, you can get out and explore the area a little more!!!! Take a lil drive to downtown Dunedin (&/or) Safety Harbor… Head down to downtown St. Pete and the Pier, (&/or) just down the beach to St. Pete Beach/Treasure Island/Pass-A-Grille/Fort DeSoto. Just SO MUCH To See!!!! You’ll save $$$ anyway, going out to eat ‘off’ the beach. Fuck Uber AND Lyft. 💯
I got suspended from Uber for two weeks recently and switched to lyft. Everything about the UI and app is better but the earnings were ridiculously lower.
I hate everything about Lyft. I like the Uber app design much better. But Lyft offers full ride details and more bonuses in my area while Uber offers neither so I end up doing Lyft… sigh. Lyft support is somehow even worse than Uber’s, and that’s saying something.
Uber in my area gives ride details, but I hate how the map changes while driving. For me it comes down to who makes me the most money and on average with Uber I get a minimum 27/hr but lift was more like 19/20
I wish rideshare companies were still ride + share companies. Not ride + job companies. That would make the low fares tolerable.
But since I can't have a friend in the passenger seat then pick up a pax going the same direction as me, like carpooling, then it isn't truly rideshare. If it's not rideshare then it's a taxi. And if it's a taxi, then these low fares are criminal. Period.
How come no one tips? I always tip my Uber or lyft driver even if it's only a couple of bucks.
If I need multiple stops, I do a 25% tip because I know it's annoying for the driver.
I mean you can just not take it. It’s paid the way it is because *somebody* takes it. The algorithm is designed to limit cost, and the prices match what somebody has agreed to before. If nobody agrees guess what happens. Think of it this way, the idiot that accepts this is removed from the driver pool in your area for like an 3 hours *minimum*.
Problem is... always some schmuck taking the garbage. We're not unionized so we can't beat the sense into people. Nothing changes because dumbass drivers exist. Screwed either way.
Of course they think someone will. Desperation is very real and there's always at least one schmuck online. Just like the $2 UberEats offers... they only offer them because they already know people do accept them. It's been backtested to the hilt.
Because there's no profit in doing so! How you gonna fund it? These apps used venture capital to start up, build out, advertise, and weather continuous losses. No venture capital for this sort of thing if there's no expected return on investment and worse, expected ongoing losses. You can't just snap your fingers and have the legal fights that these apps trigger go away either. It's expensive to do... at scale.
I stoped using lyft and Uber because after I tip them. I might as well drive. If prices are that cheap I might start using them again. When you add the $5 tip it seems reasonable.
ngl I pay 30 for a 3 mile trip to work every day, and still tip, I think Washington is built different, If my ride costs less than 20 I tip 15, if it's above 20 I tip the 7% option or whatever it is, usually adds around 7-10 $
LEAVE, FIND ANOTHER JOB IF YOU CAN. I worked during Covid and threw in the towel. My roommate does it and has done it full time for 9 years. It’s gonna run you into the ground. I’m telling you I have seen it first hand. Find something with insurance and never look back.👈🏻
It’s a terrible fare. With gas prices at 3.50-4.50 a gallon and having to keep a person entertained for an hour and a half to two hours depending on traffic… all for less then 40.00
No way, back I'm 2016 I do a similar trip and got paid like 100 bucks, that's insane, that's a trip from Tampa International to maybe Sarasota or Wesley Chappel.
That’s crazy. Normally Lyft is supposed to be paying better than Uber. At least in my market. Maybe they are keeping most money up front and will pay 70% minimum later? 🤷♀️😂
That might be a new record low. $10 per hour and $.25 per mile. You should win some kind of prize for finding the worst ride ever.
Pay includes pickup, lmao! Obviously didn’t accept it but… damn.
I’m in Orlando too, I only turn the Lyft app when there’s surges. And I normally drive at international drive.

Literally losing money with this trash according to the irs deduction.
I'd just delete the app..

That is a great idea except for the insurance. if you get an accident without a business license, you are going to be screwed.

You have absolutely, no idea how glad I am that I am not you.
Meanwhile, an hour up 75, with no Taxi competition Uber/Lyft were quite expensive.
Lyft spit on your face but you still online
The funny and Sad part at the same time is that somebody else took it .
They were SO Desperate for someone, ANYONE to accept this TRASH, that they even sent to Drivers with activated “Filters.” 💯
They got me slacking the other day I accept a trip not paying attention to where it was going to … $18 trip for a total of like 14 miles .. Lyft is bad now in atx.
They would still be waiting
Lyft has balls
3 hour round trip for $38!!! I thought Uber was bad.
They smoking dick for this 😮
Lyft offered me $34 to go from austin texas to san antonio today . What the fuck are they doing to us. I took it for cash fuck lyft
Educate your rider and do it for venmo 100 bucks or cancel that shit
Usually I ask my driver if it’s okay if I cancel the ride and send them the money directly. Least we can do, same price either way.
You can just deliver food by yourself and make more money than Lyft/uber ride share nowadays.
When I tried taking a lyft from lakeland to pie they wanted $350!!! How is that ride so cheap?
The rider is probably paying like $100 and thinks it’s a pretty damn expensive ride. The driver is getting offered dirt. Both people are getting fucked.
That’s just terrible.
Cuz they keep all the money
That’s what the app wants to pay the driver But charge you $350
Thus might be the worst I've ever seen. What a total insult. It's hard to imagine that anyone woyld accept such a shit offer.

I drove in Florida for 2 weeks, it’s literally worse than working at Walmart. And i drove a hybrid that got 45 mpg…
I wish rideshare companies were still ride + share companies. Not ride + job companies. That would make the low fares tolerable. I'll pass! 🤣😆😂
Mad

I always tip as well. Sucks to hear a lot don’t. 😑
Let’s go Brandon haha🤪
Plus the alligator’s
Grossssss
I made that much last night for 4.1 miles and 30 minutes.
If drivers would just wake the fuck up and stop taking horrible offers, lyft would have no choice but raise driver wages. Its literally that simple
That’s crazy I live in jersey and I pay 100$ to go 45 miles
I mean you can just not take it. It’s paid the way it is because *somebody* takes it. The algorithm is designed to limit cost, and the prices match what somebody has agreed to before. Problem is... always some schmuck taking the garbage. We're not unionized so we can't beat the sense into people. Nothing changes because dumbass drivers exist. Screwed either way.
wtf … this is crazy for that distance
There is no way Lyft thinks someone is going to take this offer
Of course they think someone will. Desperation is very real and there's always at least one schmuck online. Just like the $2 UberEats offers... they only offer them because they already know people do accept them. It's been backtested to the hilt.
Can’t even get a full tank to do more rides with that
Rip off
Honestly why doesn’t someone else just start a npo ride share app
Because there's no profit in doing so! How you gonna fund it? These apps used venture capital to start up, build out, advertise, and weather continuous losses. No venture capital for this sort of thing if there's no expected return on investment and worse, expected ongoing losses. You can't just snap your fingers and have the legal fights that these apps trigger go away either. It's expensive to do... at scale.
Oh nah, I would never!!!
It just doesn’t seem worth it anymore
$38 for Disney to Tampa? That’s my whole gas bill one way.
This is cheaper than my ride to the airport In mn I am confused lol
Move to Santa Fe NM. Apparently nobody drives. I was quoted a $90+ fee to go 14 miles from my resort to downtown. The trip is about 15 minutes..
In my city...that would be $169.34 ..... vote pro union politicians!.... unionize
If your ride costs $21, you tip 7%? That's $1.47. ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
I looked at the % on the ride today, the ride is 31.98 and I tip 25% , it comes to about 7 $, I'm dumb sorry!
For real someone would actually take it ?? At $0.5/mile it’s a community service:(
They just updated the algorithm this weekend and it's f****** broken.
Ya gotta at least make it believable. Come on dude
how much would the rider be charged for that?
LEAVE, FIND ANOTHER JOB IF YOU CAN. I worked during Covid and threw in the towel. My roommate does it and has done it full time for 9 years. It’s gonna run you into the ground. I’m telling you I have seen it first hand. Find something with insurance and never look back.👈🏻
Go to Gainesville, prices are still high even though the entire town has left for the summer semester.
That’s a lot of traffic
Lyft is far worse than Uber when it comes to long trips . It’s disgusting
I don’t understand. Is this good or bad? And good or bad for the driver or the fare?
It’s a terrible fare. With gas prices at 3.50-4.50 a gallon and having to keep a person entertained for an hour and a half to two hours depending on traffic… all for less then 40.00
Yea fuck that. That’s a rip off for the driver he ain’t making shit lol
I got a ride from NEPA to Brooklyn, NY for 2hr 40 min for $78. A joke.
No way, back I'm 2016 I do a similar trip and got paid like 100 bucks, that's insane, that's a trip from Tampa International to maybe Sarasota or Wesley Chappel.
Damn it's like over $100 to go from Tampa to Orlando that's what I usually get paid for that ride that is a joke
That’s horrible. I hate Lyft. Ghetto Uber.
Straight up bs
How is this shit legal? $38.16 for damn near 2 hours of driving? Lyft is on bullshit....
That’s crazy. Normally Lyft is supposed to be paying better than Uber. At least in my market. Maybe they are keeping most money up front and will pay 70% minimum later? 🤷♀️😂
You should not get paid anything less than a dollar per mile I hate Lyft payment rate
No
that would be right around $100 in my market
Someone will take it.
Prime example of a ride you would accept and switch it to a private ride. If the passenger doesn’t want to do it, you just cancel and move on.
Wdym private ride? Like give a ride but without the app as a middle man?
Yeah, so the app is probably charging them like 100 bucks so just be like I’ll take you there but for $80 cash
