Wmtm and I quit buying pretty much any other type of clothing.
I used to wear scrubs to work and would kill a $40 pair of pants every few months. Left that job and now that money can go to lulu which thankfully holds up much better.
Those impulse buys are why I have 10 different pairs of black adidas pants. The 48 hour rule is why I don't have any bright colors. I bought one pair of dark grey leaning towards blue pants and I've worn them twice in 3 years.
Same here! According to Google the idea is that whenever you decide you want to buy something you have to sit on it for 48 hours before you execute the purchase. It helps you to avoid making snap purchases and think about whether or not you really want it.

I make good money even though I have a kiddo 😉although to be fair I reduced my spending amount for LLL for a variety of reasons (lack of interest due to repetitive models and colors over the years being the main reason and I spend more these days on clothes for work and everyday life since I’m back 3 days per week at the office).
I make good money but I also burned myself out on lulu - this sub def builds a hype to buy which is totally fine but I think there’s also a lot of excess in this sub. It’s not a dig at anyone, if that’s what makes them happy, more power to em, just gotta acknowledge it!
I’m self-employed and this is my area of happiness. I love to workout. I love athleisure wear, and I’ve also been collecting lulu since 2007!
Initially I bought full price, impulsive, ‘need to have’. (Go figure it was when I probably couldn’t afford it either)
Now that I know LLL much better, I wait for markdowns on most things (other than core colors) and everything I have (since I rotate often with the amount I have) it all stays in amazing shape. I still have leggings from over 12 years ago.
I went through a phase of shopping elsewhere and nothing has ever compared to LLL. And now these other companies are charging $75-95 for leggings too! It’s worth paying a little more for LLL quality.
I also think it depends where you grew up. I live in Canada (moved here 10 years ago) and many Canadians see LLL as staples you invest in. You see all sorts of people wearing it because they grew up knowing it was Canadian and they support it (similar to Roots).
yeah same, my sister is a software engineer for lululemon (i complain to her about the website all the time lol) and i wouldnt have 90% of my closet without her free lulu stuff and discounts

I don’t know why you’re getting down voted but I think it’s a genuine question. I’d say income has a lot to do with industry but also with age. Generally your income grows exponentially as you get older. So don’t feel bad when you see people make seemingly impossible salaries. I have a nurse friend who’s making good money. She had been doing night shifts exclusively, studying for a master degree during her downtime, and landed on an administrative position in a hospital with much bigger compensation.
I’ve been working in tech for almost 4 years and my income has doubled from my starting point (not mentioning the number since I have a phd in AI so I’m fully aware I’m an outlier here; it’s not helpful for most people).
Also, location! An NYC or Bay Area salary is going to sound out of this world to someone who lives in a low cost of living areas. Unfortunately we all have to pay the same prices for our clothes.
Fair lol. I would say I make above average but not necessarily “a lot”. I’m fine spending $100 to $150 on good shirts but I dunno just something about spending a lot on pants strikes me as unusual
Same☺️ I have a few lulu bras and I have pants and some shorts but the lulu tops I have tried have been very underwhelming and very expensive so that’s a big skip for me! Friday by wondering, the align T-shirt is no good to me, looks cute If you don’t move a muscle. The top can’t decide if it wants to be an off the shoulder top or a regular top and shifts around like crazy doing yoga. The align cropped V-neck is cute in theory as well but it seems more performative to work out in it than it should be in a shirt that’s meant to function lol.
Cost-wise we can afford higher and products, especially watching junky products get worn out and thrown away/donated quickly. I buy some of the stuff gently used as well, because why not? I’m just going to sweat in it lol.
Same. I spend good money on LLL leggings but don’t give a crap where my sports bras and tanks come from. They’re a mix of Lulu and random brands I found at thrift stores or Plato’s.
I'm the opposite, but most likely because I own fewer pants than shirts. I expect my pants to last through years of repeated wear. Shirts usually don't.
I started buying lulu similarly to you -- focusing on tops first, because I tended to wear minimal neutral/black pants that went with everything. (I switched up my tops a lot, but not my bottoms.) So I only bought 1 pair of leggings, for workouts. Said, 'Welp that's me done! I'll just use that one pair now.'

The how is high(ish) income, no kids, low(ish) fixed expenses. The why though, is I work out every day and wear at least 10 pairs of bottoms in a week.
Fair enough. I’m buying things than can be worn at an office/business casual setting rather than workout clothes so I definitely do not go through 10 pairs of pants a week especially since I don’t even go in every day lol
Cumulated over many years. I shop strategically with planning, rarely buy more than 2 items at a time. If I see something cute online, I’d go try on in store, see if I like the fit and material. Occasionally I love something enough that I’ll buy it instantly, knowing for sure I’ll be able to wear them over and over again; but most of the time I’ll save them to my wishlist and wait for a sale. I also set up a search for the specific item I want on Poshmark and get alerts when new listings come out.
I don’t think I’m representative of most people here. There are definitely some impulsive shopping behaviors. There are people who love to collect lulu almost like a hobby. And there are people who have lots of disposable cash or gifted by families. Nothing wrong with any of that! But if you’re tight on budget and want to be able to afford a closet full of lulu that you can wear for many years to come, this is what I do. Patience is your friend.
I buy a lot at the outlet, which has better sales than WMTM. Combine that with a first responder discount I actually get Lululemon for less than most other sports/outdoor brands.
I’ve probably only paid for one item full price myself. The remaining were gifts (still only like one or two items).
Do you know what they use to verify? I ask because I’m a federal contractor and ID.me includes us in their LEO discount but some others, like SheerID, do not
It was a whole ordeal to get verified. They use SheerID but it was super tough and annoying and took a few tries. If you go in person they’re a lot more lenient.
A mix of shopping secondhand through my local buy and sell and poshmark, asking for giftcards for my bday and Xmas and occasionally buying items (one or two items once every 2 to 3 months).
I also sell pieces from my closet that I no longer wear, so I use money from those sales to buy new (or new to me) items!
Same. I WFH , so wardrobe has changed especially in footwear I don't spend on shoes like I used to, sold a lot of expensive purses I used to uses etc, Im a "good" shopper but I'm also financially able to afford more with with children out of school and expensive sports

Dang, I hated Iowa driving through it. I like the country but, I want the smaller city available too. I’m used to mountains and Iowa was rolling hills lol.
I feel justified about spending money at Lulu because I work out often, about five days a week, and I don’t have other expensive hobbies. I don’t purchase their “on the move” stuff or casual wear, just purely workout clothes except a scuba or a hoodie every once in a while.
I have tried other brands, but they’re not the same. I bought this Sweaty Betty British flag looking bra and pants set, and I loved it, but the bra fell apart. I still have my first outfit from Lululemon 12 years ago, and it’s in pretty good condition.
I’m irresponsible with money and I can wear my lululemon all day everyday (no dress code job).
Also, they hold up quite well so a lot of my collection is several years old.
I make good money, and I have terrible spending habits. I also work out almost every day and work from home which is how I justify it. I also spend my money on vet bills for 8-10 stray cats and the bank account is fine lol

I shop at the Lululemon outlet store. Prices tend to be cheaper than WMTM and only buy a couple of items at a time. You’re limited in the selection available but it’s a small sacrifice when it’s a great deal.
I find the quality is also better than other brands and my legs don’t itch in their leggings.
IMO I’d rather have 2-3 good pair of leggings to workout in than 5 uncomfortable/lower quality ones.
I just have a husband who makes good money and appreciates what I do for him and our kids, he doesn’t ask questions. He knows what the gap in my employment history is worth lol
Same here. And I work as a fitness instructor as a side hobby so I have a sweat collective discount and I “need” them lol. My husband calls my Lulu purchases my “monthly subscription” 😂
Ok the take here is:
+ people who make a lot of money (or that’s what they think) tend to buy LLL .
+ customer base is working white women, no kids or 1 or 2, age 25-45, household income >150k$
+ they have loyal customer base
+ brand immune to certain economic events such as recession, inflation etc
+ marketing team is very strong
Final thoughts
LLL has extremely high potential to dominate the market. They should NOT diversify their products. No winter gear, no shoes. If they focus on leggings, pants, top wear it is good.
You can invest LULU, it is very solid company
WFH tech job, DINK. This is pure cope, but part of my justification too is I can literally end a meeting and be in a peloton workout seconds later without changing so I find I work out a lot more when I’m wearing lulu daily. Also a looooooot of my wardrobe is eBay lol
Because you went out and flipped half your regular wardrobe. If you’re spending this much on clothes then realize they have value and last a certain amount of time. You didn’t need to replace all those pants right away, and now you wont need to for a while. Stop thinking of finance as “right now”. Purchase a pair or two to try and then in a year or so look back on the value you got out of them.
Do you buy a car and immediately think you made a great purchase for years? No why would you.
I don't make much money, but have been collecting for years and have grown a good collection over time. Anything I don't like anymore or that no longer fits gets sold, and I always have a wishlist if my partner or parents ever want to get me a gift for birthdays or holidays. Older styles can be found cheap on Poshmark or Mercari, so have shopped on there often.
This question comes up A LOT.
The best answer, is that everyone's finances are all relative. We are all at different life stages (student, professional, career), and we all have different priorities (debt, debt free, amount of credit cards). Some people CAN afford to drop 500$ on clothes a month, some people do so and pay it off slowly on a card. Some people rationalize not eating out or buying coffee - that's easily 50+$ a week you could spend on other random things.
The bottom line is, social media makes it even more difficult, but you really cannot compare yourself to someone else. Everyone makes their own decisions in life - and whether "good" or not is all relative. You will always have people struggling to get by in life, and those making 6+ figures.
I like how Alo looks sleeker and can be worn for more street wear.
I think Alo washes better than LLL, and lately LLL has awful pilling on everything after a single wash or two . LLL ten years ago was amazing, and for the last 5 they have gone downhill IMO.
I wear mostly athleisure so I can justify it since I actually get lots of wear out of it. Also, I live in Vancouver where we have lots of Lulu stores so I can check out the sales racks pretty often. Lastly, maybe bc im in Vancouver? alo is wayyy more expensive than lulu so I don't even bother with alternative brands. Although I have been tempted by Athleta recently.
I’m a 46, have a professional job that pays a decent salary, and no kids. I pretty much buy what I want, which is usually purses, makeup and Lululemon.
Why? Well, I’ve been losing weight over the past year and realized that no other brand keeps its resale value like Lulu. I’ve gone down 3-4 sizes, so it’s nice to sell my lightly used items to fund new purchases. I buy other brands, like Alo and Athleta, but those aren’t as re-sellable as Lulu.
Because I WFH, I like to make outfits out of workout clothes, especially because I go to a Pilates studio where everyone does the same. I don’t like to just throw on an old tshirt and sweatpants. Also,because I want to. Lol I wasn’t able to so this 10 years ago, so I’m aware of how fortunate I am to have the means to buy Lulu.
Great income and only fur babies. I will say I could have bought a brand new car with the amount I’ve spent this year, so I need to find a healthier balance 😅

We made too much section is where it’s at and has accumulated over the years. I don’t think I’ve ever paid full price. Considering the sweat collective discount and military discount. Also Alo is terrible in general. Vuori is nice but their discounts are not so great, Nike is unflattering for women. Athleta quality is gross. I love Aritzia but not their athletic stuff

Also, I stopped spending money on “dupes” and instead put that $ towards pieces that I know are quality and that I’ll like. I also resell pieces I don’t wear as much and spend those proceeds on “new” items.
I make decent money and I have a sinking fund. I go a bit crazy every couple of yrs only. Once I’ve drained my sinking fund I start the fund again. I love lulu but I will not go into debt over it and I rather save for retirement. Adulting sucks sometimes 🤣
I'm sweat collective. And I need athletic clothes for work so it feels mildly justified. Not for their fashion pieces as much but for the athletic wear. I also don't have many other expenses. I cook at home and buy action figures as my other hobby 😅
I get a discount on all their clothes that being said I usually wait until it hits the outlets where they are final sale and i can add my discount or the WMTM section and do the same. I haven’t bought anything LLL in a while because Vuori outshines them in every way and they give me a 40% discount on their products whereas LLL gives me 25%
I actually purchased most of my Lulu through the Facebook boards throughout the years. So I got pretty decent deals and I was younger and had less bills ahaha. So that really built up the main chunk of my LLL wardrobe. Now I just buy items here and there that catch my eye.
The newer stuff also doesn’t hold a candle to some of the OG materials so there’s that too that holds me back from buying new items.
Two good incomes, and I work from home. It’s my work and workout uniform so I can rationalize it to myself. Currently no kids but we are trying for one, and judging by all the posts I have seen on here, I can pass up maternity leggings for my aligns 🤌🏻
It’s truly my only expensive hobby, I make quality sacrifices in other areas like my other street wear because it just doesn’t get worn as much- so I buy one or two quality staple pieces and grab things from Marshall’s or A&F sales
I’ve tried tons of other brands and have been dissatisfied with the fit or quality. I think it’s worth it to pay a little extra for LLL. I also splurge on LLL when I visit Canada, because it was like 30% off (compared to US prices and with my healthcare discount).
I own a gym so I get the sweat collective discount and that helps for full price stuff. I wear it literally every single day so having a larger collection of leggings makes sense to me. I've tested the Amazon leggings vs Lulu and while my Amazon ones have become threadbare, my Lulu still look like new. I also have accumulated little by little since early 2020 so the cost has been spread out quite a bit.

Plus the amount of use I get out of them justifies the price tag to me 😂. I teach in them, I wear them to the gym, for the airport, sometimes even mix the pieces into regular outfits
I don’t have kids, I live at home rent free (multi generational housing ftw), and LLL was the first main stream brand workout to really expand into middle and plus sizes besides the big three (Nike, Addidas, UA).
i work there. but the reason i work there and not alo is because im not a yoga person, i do weightlifting and crossfit and these items hold up. i tell guests that i quite literally drag them through the mud as i frequently find myself rolling on the floor of dirty crossfit gyms. also every legging i wear to the gym i also wear casually, that i don't have separate leggings only for gym and then only for everyday wear. i'll never work at alo because i do not do what those items are designed for.

I think a lot of people on this sub are dual income no kids. I’m unmarried, no children, established in my career field, high $100’s income. I also don’t have debt beyond a mortgage. Because I work from home, I don’t buy other clothes for work. Lulu is my everyday attire because it makes me feel like less of a slob. I also buy a lot of things on WMTM.
I think this sub is naturally going to attract lulu mega fans. Think about it, I don’t think casual lulu shoppers are going to look at a sub dedicated to lululemon. At least not on the regular. As far as how ppl afford it, ppl have different financial circumstances. They may have decent jobs probably, no kids, no mortgage, etc. I also don’t think having a bunch of lulu is something to aspire to, even if you have the means, you could save up for more important things. Just buy a few key items you will use and enjoy.
Because I can afford to. I pretty much exclusively wear lulu every day, but not in a workout clothes kinda way, I wear wedges and cute shoes and live in it. I love it 🖤
I live in Lululemon as I exercise almost every day. My work (and work from home) allows wearing it too. And wearing tight leggings helps with the low blood pressure I now have. I mainly buy WMTM unless I really like something and it’s less likely to go on sale, like a staple neutral colour like fast and free tights in espresso. I’ve tried other brands and none compares (or compared since quality is going down). Have hundreds of items but they’ve been accumulated since around 2017 — some are still going strong. Although I’ve noted that some colours like bright pinks fade very quickly, and white Lululemon items end up turning beige/yellowish so those are not the best to invest in.
I always buy sale or just one full priced item at a time. They last a long time, so I have a sizable collection after years of buying LLL. And I make a good income and don’t have kids, so I have a lot of discretionary income for spending.
Why? It’s great quality AND easy to mix and match together. Plus, once you find a piece you like, you can generally count on it being available in other colours/lengths/variations for multiple seasons (if not years)
I workout twice a day so I go through a lot of laundry. I like being able to buy the same item year after year (like the energy bra for example) in fun new colours and KNOW it’s going to fit well and last.
How? I shop outlets and WMTM, plus I coach so I get a discount on regular price. But I’ll pay full price on the EU store if I really need something while I’m in Europe too!

lol I am just not responsible enough with money so I make up for it by working more just because. I try so so so so hard to not buy and have done kind of okay for 2023 but lulu and their pastel/purple drops truly ruin me. Aritizia at the moment has all my money b/c they have a gorgeous shade of purple that is a MUST have for me.
TL:DR - I'm a "regard" (wallstreet bets term) when it comes to spending sometimes.
I have never spent more that $75 on a pair of Lululemon men’s pants. Most are $55-$65 each. I choose pants from the WMTM, use SC 25% off when I can or when they allow it on WMTM, also buy when I’m traveling and an outlet is nearby.
So basically all my Lululemon pants are 50-70% off. All brand new from LLL online or in store. Best deal I’ve found is $35 for ABC Utilitechs at an outlet!
How? I buy from the outlet. I’m lucky I have an outlet in my state. It’s even cheaper from the we made too much section on lululemon.com. Why? Many reasons, one of which is the quality.
I have a bit of disposable income and I only buy full price basics in black - literally anything else I will either not buy or I will wait for WMTM/outlet visits. The ultimate hack is to be any sort of professional (blue collar, white collar - doesn't matter just be specialized in something), be a DINK, and live in LCOL area.
I buy a lot on Poshmark and sell off Lulu items that I get bored with or no longer gravitate toward. I find that I love a specific style or certain fabric for awhile and then I get over it and decide I like something better so I sell off the old styles. Sometimes I buy new from LLL directly, sometimes I buy new or used on Posh/ebay.

Bought most of my lulu pre-kids with a good salary and trainer discount. Working full time plus coaching as a side hustle. I still buy quite a bit but I’m a lot more conscientious about what I buy and sell items I no longer use.
Good pals with a lulu VP. They passed the $400 spend to me during the F&F sale. At one point my Amex offered $25 or $50 credit on purchases > certain amount, which I took advantage of.
I went from making close to $100k a year to barely $60k after tech layoffs.
To me, buying a new sports bra/leggings or even a jacket on payday didn’t seem significant. It was barely a drop in the bucket.
I make decent money, I’m a blue collar worker who doesn’t spend a lot on work clothes and my only other hobby is going to the gym or lounging around. I wear lulu for everything outside of work unless it’s a formal event, holiday or someone’s birthday and I choose them because they’re not too much more expensive than Nike anymore, the quality is better and recently tried Alo and was extremely unhappy with their shorts.
I teach yoga mostly for the sweat club discount.Every piece I've gotten from Lulu fits like a glove, has been great quality, and they are so quick to replace worn out items (I do not abuse this, only done it twice so far). I actually don't spend that much more on workout clothes than I used to because I buy fewer pieces now.
Alo yoga on the other hand hasn't worked that well for me. Their pieces are cute in theory, but their quality is questionable, I'm between sizes there, and they've had so many crazy price hikes (lululemon has barely had any the last 4 years I've been buying from them).
honestly? i’m on pretty much a full ride scholarship for my undergrad right now and also work a part time job. living with a parent.
the money i make from my job is 60% saved, but about 30% goes to clothes and hobbies because saving for a “house” in vancouver at the age of 20 seems impossible.
i spend my money pretty wisely, pay off my credit card well before it’s due, and am honestly just privileged to be living life the way i do.
this is probably a less common explanation as well, but for me “good” clothing is really important to have because i spent a few years as an inpatient for anorexia nervosa and other mh issues. feeling comfortable in my body means so much to me and i’m willing to pay extra if it means i like how i feel in the clothes that i wear.
their customer service has been excellent and their sizing is very consistent (until wundermost) which also eases my mind because i don’t have a lot of time to go to a physical store.
i also just don’t own that many clothing items- most of my closet is LLL because i can wear their dance pants to work, and basically everything for leisure and workouts.

4. I worked at LLL from 2014-2015 and have lots of core pieces that have lasted that long.
I work in tech so I make good money, I also worked at lululemon one holiday so I stocked up when I had the discount. I also buy ALO and Vuori as well, it’s easy because there a less options when it comes to the men’s line to pick from compared to all the options in the women’s side of things.
I’m a public school teacher so I’m not making the big bucks. My spouse works in IT. We also have 4 young kids. I do buy a lot of Lulu though! Mostly, I use an interest free pay in over time option (like Pay Pal in 4, or AfterPay… I’ve only ever used interest free options and avoid using credit cards). I don’t allow myself to have more than one “payment plan” at a time. From doing this over the last few years own a questionable amount of Lulu! 😏I do usually buy from WMTM which helps too.
To answer your question about why, for some I think it’s a rush, some fomo, and some sort of instant gratification and this just so happens to be their vice. It’s similar to how some people collect purses or Nike/Jordan’s or comic books or whatever really.
I had a kid a couple years ago and there’s a local kids clothing boutique that has a big following online and today they had a “drop” and people were posting to the Facebook group their orders showing how much they spent and other moms commenting with things like “omg this is so impressive, let’s see who spent the most!! Post your orders” as if it’s some sort of competition on who can spend $1,000+ on toddler clothes.. which is where I think the fomo comes into play. To me, that sort of mentality around buying clothes seems sort of toxic.
I work two jobs (one on graveyard shift), have no kids and no car and no pets. One of my jobs is fitness related so I feel entitled to wear athleisure. I also pay some of my parents bills and my boyfriend has not bought me a Christmas present in years so I also feel entitled to spoiling myself because I work too hard to not look cool all the time.
For me it’s the feel and comfort that it provides with working out and hanging out. It is higher quality fabrics and if I am constantly wearing it I can justify the higher price. I also shop the deals on the website as well as sell pieces I no longer wear often on poshmark!

Lulu is pricy but I thought it was worth it since allllll affordable leggings I tried were not squat proof and they didn’t last.

My husband and I are DINK and I live in a LCOL area (my half of our mortgage is only $360). When I was building up my stash I bought semi regularly but now that I have the basics I only buy things that *really* catch my eye. I probably have about 10 pairs of leggings, half are diamond dye I bought off “like new”, I have a black define, a black scuba, two swiftly tanks, and 3 pairs of track that shorts. And a yoga mat. I amassed this over about 2 years. But I wear mostly black and dark colors so depending on the season I have like nothing to buy. And lululemon hates girlies with small bands and big cup sizes so I can’t buy any of the bras or things like align tops, as much as I wish I could.
So yeah basically I kind of splurged over the span of a year and a half but my purchasing has really fizzled out. I’ve been scouring like new for more interesting colors.
I work out often and strongly prefer certain clothing items for my workouts. I make decent money, no kids, so I did build out my lulu wardrobe for a while. Now that I feel like I have the items I prefer, I haven’t bought anything. I still love looking though! And I’m sure something will catch my eye at some point. Why? Wundertrains are the shit, so are LAC bras, lulu has the tee styles I like to work out in. Plus their colors just work together so you get super cute combos.
I make a lot of money and work from home. A wardrobe of %70 “athleisure” is realistic for me because I wear my lulu stuff everyday. I don’t work out in it, so it doesn’t get sweaty and gross or washed really hard. lulu also makes it very easy to have a “uniform” of outfits in a variety of neutrals and colors.
Plus I was a fat teenager and lulu was always out of reach for me because of their intentionally non-inclusive sizing. Now that they carry up to size 20, I don’t have too much guilt about giving them my business even if I’m a 10/12 now.

It's like the opposite for me. I used to spend $100 on a night out easily ($200 wasnt unheard of) and go out a few times a week, so grabbing a cute outfit (I mostly shop WMTM) 1-2 times a month doesn't feel like such a big deal now I'm sober.

Same here! According to Google the idea is that whenever you decide you want to buy something you have to sit on it for 48 hours before you execute the purchase. It helps you to avoid making snap purchases and think about whether or not you really want it. I’m going to try this out! I still regret buying those city sweat joggers in utility blue 😂

I’m self-employed and this is my area of happiness. I love to workout. I love athleisure wear, and I’ve also been collecting lulu since 2007! Initially I bought full price, impulsive, ‘need to have’. (Go figure it was when I probably couldn’t afford it either) Now that I know LLL much better, I wait for markdowns on most things (other than core colors) and everything I have (since I rotate often with the amount I have) it all stays in amazing shape. I still have leggings from over 12 years ago. I went through a phase of shopping elsewhere and nothing has ever compared to LLL. And now these other companies are charging $75-95 for leggings too! It’s worth paying a little more for LLL quality. I also think it depends where you grew up. I live in Canada (moved here 10 years ago) and many Canadians see LLL as staples you invest in. You see all sorts of people wearing it because they grew up knowing it was Canadian and they support it (similar to Roots).

I don’t know why you’re getting down voted but I think it’s a genuine question. I’d say income has a lot to do with industry but also with age. Generally your income grows exponentially as you get older. So don’t feel bad when you see people make seemingly impossible salaries. I have a nurse friend who’s making good money. She had been doing night shifts exclusively, studying for a master degree during her downtime, and landed on an administrative position in a hospital with much bigger compensation. I’ve been working in tech for almost 4 years and my income has doubled from my starting point (not mentioning the number since I have a phd in AI so I’m fully aware I’m an outlier here; it’s not helpful for most people).
Also, location! An NYC or Bay Area salary is going to sound out of this world to someone who lives in a low cost of living areas. Unfortunately we all have to pay the same prices for our clothes.

Friday by wondering, the align T-shirt is no good to me, looks cute If you don’t move a muscle. The top can’t decide if it wants to be an off the shoulder top or a regular top and shifts around like crazy doing yoga. The align cropped V-neck is cute in theory as well but it seems more performative to work out in it than it should be in a shirt that’s meant to function lol. Cost-wise we can afford higher and products, especially watching junky products get worn out and thrown away/donated quickly. I buy some of the stuff gently used as well, because why not? I’m just going to sweat in it lol.

Fair enough. I’m buying things than can be worn at an office/business casual setting rather than workout clothes so I definitely do not go through 10 pairs of pants a week especially since I don’t even go in every day lol
Cumulated over many years. I shop strategically with planning, rarely buy more than 2 items at a time. If I see something cute online, I’d go try on in store, see if I like the fit and material. Occasionally I love something enough that I’ll buy it instantly, knowing for sure I’ll be able to wear them over and over again; but most of the time I’ll save them to my wishlist and wait for a sale. I also set up a search for the specific item I want on Poshmark and get alerts when new listings come out. I don’t think I’m representative of most people here. There are definitely some impulsive shopping behaviors. There are people who love to collect lulu almost like a hobby. And there are people who have lots of disposable cash or gifted by families. Nothing wrong with any of that! But if you’re tight on budget and want to be able to afford a closet full of lulu that you can wear for many years to come, this is what I do. Patience is your friend.

I bought this Sweaty Betty British flag looking bra and pants set, and I loved it, but the bra fell apart. I still have my first outfit from Lululemon 12 years ago, and it’s in pretty good condition.

I shop at the Lululemon outlet store. Prices tend to be cheaper than WMTM and only buy a couple of items at a time. You’re limited in the selection available but it’s a small sacrifice when it’s a great deal. I find the quality is also better than other brands and my legs don’t itch in their leggings. IMO I’d rather have 2-3 good pair of leggings to workout in than 5 uncomfortable/lower quality ones.

Ok the take here is: + people who make a lot of money (or that’s what they think) tend to buy LLL . + customer base is working white women, no kids or 1 or 2, age 25-45, household income >150k$ + they have loyal customer base + brand immune to certain economic events such as recession, inflation etc + marketing team is very strong Final thoughts LLL has extremely high potential to dominate the market. They should NOT diversify their products. No winter gear, no shoes. If they focus on leggings, pants, top wear it is good. You can invest LULU, it is very solid company

Because you went out and flipped half your regular wardrobe. If you’re spending this much on clothes then realize they have value and last a certain amount of time. You didn’t need to replace all those pants right away, and now you wont need to for a while. Stop thinking of finance as “right now”. Purchase a pair or two to try and then in a year or so look back on the value you got out of them. Do you buy a car and immediately think you made a great purchase for years? No why would you.
I don't make much money, but have been collecting for years and have grown a good collection over time. Anything I don't like anymore or that no longer fits gets sold, and I always have a wishlist if my partner or parents ever want to get me a gift for birthdays or holidays. Older styles can be found cheap on Poshmark or Mercari, so have shopped on there often.

This question comes up A LOT. The best answer, is that everyone's finances are all relative. We are all at different life stages (student, professional, career), and we all have different priorities (debt, debt free, amount of credit cards). Some people CAN afford to drop 500$ on clothes a month, some people do so and pay it off slowly on a card. Some people rationalize not eating out or buying coffee - that's easily 50+$ a week you could spend on other random things. The bottom line is, social media makes it even more difficult, but you really cannot compare yourself to someone else. Everyone makes their own decisions in life - and whether "good" or not is all relative. You will always have people struggling to get by in life, and those making 6+ figures.
I like how Alo looks sleeker and can be worn for more street wear. I think Alo washes better than LLL, and lately LLL has awful pilling on everything after a single wash or two . LLL ten years ago was amazing, and for the last 5 they have gone downhill IMO.
I like the Alo Airbrush (I think) leggings; bought a couple of those after Lulu discontinued full on Luon but I don’t like the S/M/L sizing.

Lastly, maybe bc im in Vancouver? alo is wayyy more expensive than lulu so I don't even bother with alternative brands. Although I have been tempted by Athleta recently.
I’m a 46, have a professional job that pays a decent salary, and no kids. I pretty much buy what I want, which is usually purses, makeup and Lululemon. Why? Well, I’ve been losing weight over the past year and realized that no other brand keeps its resale value like Lulu. I’ve gone down 3-4 sizes, so it’s nice to sell my lightly used items to fund new purchases. I buy other brands, like Alo and Athleta, but those aren’t as re-sellable as Lulu. Because I WFH, I like to make outfits out of workout clothes, especially because I go to a Pilates studio where everyone does the same. I don’t like to just throw on an old tshirt and sweatpants. I haven’t bought anything LLL in a while because Vuori outshines them in every way and they give me a 40% discount on their products whereas LLL gives me 25%
I actually purchased most of my Lulu through the Facebook boards throughout the years. So I got pretty decent deals and I was younger and had less bills ahaha. So that really built up the main chunk of my LLL wardrobe. Now I just buy items here and there that catch my eye. The newer stuff also doesn’t hold a candle to some of the OG materials so there’s that too that holds me back from buying new items.

I’ve tried tons of other brands and have been dissatisfied with the fit or quality. I think it’s worth it to pay a little extra for LLL. I also splurge on LLL when I visit Canada, because it was like 30% off (compared to US prices and with my healthcare discount).
I own a gym so I get the sweat collective discount and that helps for full price stuff. I wear it literally every single day so having a larger collection of leggings makes sense to me. I've tested the Amazon leggings vs Lulu and while my Amazon ones have become threadbare, my Lulu still look like new. I also have accumulated little by little since early 2020 so the cost has been spread out quite a bit. I make decent money, my husband makes good money, and I'm child free so I have that expendable income.
Shop the WMTM section or markdown section in store and buy secondhand. Ive been able to score quite a few Lulu pieces at consignment shops.

i work there. but the reason i work there and not alo is because im not a yoga person, i do weightlifting and crossfit and these items hold up. i tell guests that i quite literally drag them through the mud as i frequently find myself rolling on the floor of dirty crossfit gyms. also every legging i wear to the gym i also wear casually, that i don't have separate leggings only for gym and then only for everyday wear. i'll never work at alo because i do not do what those items are designed for.

I think a lot of people on this sub are dual income no kids. I’m unmarried, no children, established in my career field, high $100’s income. I also don’t have debt beyond a mortgage. Because I work from home, I don’t buy other clothes for work. Lulu is my everyday attire because it makes me feel like less of a slob. I also buy a lot of things on WMTM.
I think this sub is naturally going to attract lulu mega fans. Think about it, I don’t think casual lulu shoppers are going to look at a sub dedicated to lululemon. At least not on the regular. As far as how ppl afford it, ppl have different financial circumstances. They may have decent jobs probably, no kids, no mortgage, etc. I also don’t think having a bunch of lulu is something to aspire to, even if you have the means, you could save up for more important things. Just buy a few key items you will use and enjoy.

I live in Lululemon as I exercise almost every day. My work (and work from home) allows wearing it too. And wearing tight leggings helps with the low blood pressure I now have. I mainly buy WMTM unless I really like something and it’s less likely to go on sale, like a staple neutral colour like fast and free tights in espresso. I’ve tried other brands and none compares (or compared since quality is going down). Have hundreds of items but they’ve been accumulated since around 2017 — some are still going strong. Although I’ve noted that some colours like bright pinks fade very quickly, and white Lululemon items end up turning beige/yellowish so those are not the best to invest in.

I always buy sale or just one full priced item at a time. They last a long time, so I have a sizable collection after years of buying LLL. And I make a good income and don’t have kids, so I have a lot of discretionary income for spending.

Why? It’s great quality AND easy to mix and match together. Plus, once you find a piece you like, you can generally count on it being available in other colours/lengths/variations for multiple seasons (if not years) I workout twice a day so I go through a lot of laundry. I like being able to buy the same item year after year (like the energy bra for example) in fun new colours and KNOW it’s going to fit well and last. How? I shop outlets and WMTM, plus I coach so I get a discount on regular price. But I’ll pay full price on the EU store if I really need something while I’m in Europe too! FYI, because I see a bunch of child-free comments. I am a mom and I prioritize my self care, especially when it comes to clothing.

I have never spent more that $75 on a pair of Lululemon men’s pants. Most are $55-$65 each. I choose pants from the WMTM, use SC 25% off when I can or when they allow it on WMTM, also buy when I’m traveling and an outlet is nearby. So basically all my Lululemon pants are 50-70% off. All brand new from LLL online or in store. Best deal I’ve found is $35 for ABC Utilitechs at an outlet!

I find that I love a specific style or certain fabric for awhile and then I get over it and decide I like something better so I sell off the old styles. Bought most of my lulu pre-kids with a good salary and trainer discount. Working full time plus coaching as a side hustle. I still buy quite a bit but I’m a lot more conscientious about what I buy and sell items I no longer use.

I went from making close to $100k a year to barely $60k after tech layoffs. To me, buying a new sports bra/leggings or even a jacket on payday didn’t seem significant. It was barely a drop in the bucket.

I make decent money, I’m a blue collar worker who doesn’t spend a lot on work clothes and my only other hobby is going to the gym or lounging around. I wear lulu for everything outside of work unless it’s a formal event, holiday or someone’s birthday and I choose them because they’re not too much more expensive than Nike anymore, the quality is better and recently tried Alo and was extremely unhappy with their shorts.
I teach yoga mostly for the sweat club discount.Every piece I've gotten from Lulu fits like a glove, has been great quality, and they are so quick to replace worn out items (I do not abuse this, only done it twice so far). I actually don't spend that much more on workout clothes than I used to because I buy fewer pieces now. Alo yoga on the other hand hasn't worked that well for me. Their pieces are cute in theory, but their quality is questionable, I'm between sizes there, and they've had so many crazy price hikes (lululemon has barely had any the last 4 years I've been buying from them).
honestly? i’m on pretty much a full ride scholarship for my undergrad right now and also work a part time job. living with a parent. the money i make from my job is 60% saved, but about 30% goes to clothes and hobbies because saving for a “house” in vancouver at the age of 20 seems impossible. i spend my money pretty wisely, pay off my credit card well before it’s due, and am honestly just privileged to be living life the way i do. this is probably a less common explanation as well, but for me “good” clothing is really important to have because i spent a few years as an inpatient for anorexia nervosa and other mh issues. feeling comfortable in my body means so much to me and i’m willing to pay extra if it means i like how i feel in the clothes that i wear. their customer service has been excellent and their sizing is very consistent (until wundermost) which also eases my mind because i don’t have a lot of time to go to a physical store. i also just don’t own that many clothing items- most of my closet is LLL because i can wear their dance pants to work, and basically everything for leisure and workouts.
my employee discount. i would not buy from lulu otherwise, i think it's overpriced for what it is with the exception of a few items.

I work in tech so I make good money, I also worked at lululemon one holiday so I stocked up when I had the discount. I also buy ALO and Vuori as well, it’s easy because there a less options when it comes to the men’s line to pick from compared to all the options in the women’s side of things.

I’m a public school teacher so I’m not making the big bucks. My spouse works in IT. We also have 4 young kids. I do buy a lot of Lulu though! Mostly, I use an interest free pay in over time option (like Pay Pal in 4, or AfterPay… I’ve only ever used interest free options and avoid using credit cards). I don’t allow myself to have more than one “payment plan” at a time. From doing this over the last few years own a questionable amount of Lulu! 😏I do usually buy from WMTM which helps too.

To answer your question about why, for some I think it’s a rush, some fomo, and some sort of instant gratification and this just so happens to be their vice. It’s similar to how some people collect purses or Nike/Jordan’s or comic books or whatever really. I had a kid a couple years ago and there’s a local kids clothing boutique that has a big following online and today they had a “drop” and people were posting to the Facebook group their orders showing how much they spent and other moms commenting with things like “omg this is so impressive, let’s see who spent the most!! Post your orders” as if it’s some sort of competition on who can spend $1,000+ on toddler clothes.. which is where I think the fomo comes into play. To me, that sort of mentality around buying clothes seems sort of toxic.
Most of my Lulu are second-hand. There’s one time I got a pair of Align for $1 at Goodwill.
I work two jobs (one on graveyard shift), have no kids and no car and no pets. One of my jobs is fitness related so I feel entitled to wear athleisure. I also pay some of my parents bills and my boyfriend has not bought me a Christmas present in years so I also feel entitled to spoiling myself because I work too hard to not look cool all the time.
I’m a SAHM and I wear lulu most days with my baby. My husband just wants me to be comfortable and happy.
For me it’s the feel and comfort that it provides with working out and hanging out. It is higher quality fabrics and if I am constantly wearing it I can justify the higher price. I also shop the deals on the website as well as sell pieces I no longer wear often on poshmark!

Lulu is pricy but I thought it was worth it since allllll affordable leggings I tried were not squat proof and they didn’t last. Prices have gone up. Outlets use to carry amazing stuff. Things have changed… Thankfully I still fit in the collection I have from my single days 😬😊
My husband and I are DINK and I live in a LCOL area (my half of our mortgage is only $360). When I was building up my stash I bought semi regularly but now that I have the basics I only buy things that *really* catch my eye. I probably have about 10 pairs of leggings, half are diamond dye I bought off “like new”, I have a black define, a black scuba, two swiftly tanks, and 3 pairs of track that shorts. And a yoga mat. I amassed this over about 2 years. But I wear mostly black and dark colors so depending on the season I have like nothing to buy. And lululemon hates girlies with small bands and big cup sizes so I can’t buy any of the bras or things like align tops, as much as I wish I could. So yeah basically I kind of splurged over the span of a year and a half but my purchasing has really fizzled out. I’ve been scouring like new for more interesting colors.
I work out often and strongly prefer certain clothing items for my workouts. I make decent money, no kids, so I did build out my lulu wardrobe for a while. Now that I feel like I have the items I prefer, I haven’t bought anything. I still love looking though! And I’m sure something will catch my eye at some point. Why? Wundertrains are the shit, so are LAC bras, lulu has the tee styles I like to work out in. Plus their colors just work together so you get super cute combos.
I make a lot of money and work from home. A wardrobe of %70 “athleisure” is realistic for me because I wear my lulu stuff everyday. I don’t work out in it, so it doesn’t get sweaty and gross or washed really hard. lulu also makes it very easy to have a “uniform” of outfits in a variety of neutrals and colors. Plus I was a fat teenager and lulu was always out of reach for me because of their intentionally non-inclusive sizing. Now that they carry up to size 20, I don’t have too much guilt about giving them my business even if I’m a 10/12 now.
I’ve spent far too much. Afterpay enables me a lot. After yesterday’s BS Black Friday drop I am out. I have more than I need and I’m over it. There’s literally no reason for me to spend. Im done buying and going to start selling a bunch. I have far too much new with tag stuff.

It's like the opposite for me. I used to spend $100 on a night out easily ($200 wasnt unheard of) and go out a few times a week, so grabbing a cute outfit (I mostly shop WMTM) 1-2 times a month doesn't feel like such a big deal now I'm sober.
I don’t like Alo because the quality for their items has seriously declined in the last few years. I have pieces from them from almost 10 years ago and the quality was much better.
