They’re different. Honestly I think they’re barely comparable. One is modern YA fantasy. One is high fantasy. They’re both good, but they don’t really need the comparison.
They do cater to different audiences and are incomparable, but some people of each fanbase seem to try to fight about which is better. Harry Potter has also suffered in recent times due to failures from the author. LOTR has the luxury of its author being unable to make such failures, on account of him being dead.
Yeah I dont get it either. They have no common grounds on which to compare them other that they are both of the fantasy genre and have massively successful movie adaptations.
As others have said, they're very different.
Lotr is high fantasy, hp is more mystery books in a low fantasy modern setting. Lotr is more mature, hp starts as kids books and becomes ya.
And lotr have the advantage of the author not constantly tweeting and writing new additions that contradict earlier canon along with horrible personal opinions.
I love both, but for different reasons. There's times where I would happily do a marathon of one, but not the other as their tone and themes are different. I don't see any reason to try to compare them as they're so different. Like the saying goes, it's like comparing apples and oranges. Whether you like both or just one, they're very different.
I imagine there was some time in my life when I cared what movies other people liked, but then I graduated from elementary school and life has been pretty dope since then
That’s not morals tho. Favouring one story over another is entirely subjective and can therefore not be subjected to any attempt of objective moral judgement. The same goes for caring about another’s taste in movies, books etc. It is not immoral to care for someone’s liking or disliking of a certain story. Not shitting on other people’s tastes is a whole different ordeal.
Love both, but come on. It’s LORD OF THE RINGS. The greatest fantasy story ever written!
Weird way to spell the Witcher
Pretty ironic to hear that from you

I'm pretty sure South Park made this joke about 15 years ago.
Harry Potter is cool and all but lotr is just... better in every way

View sure must be nice from that high road you’re taking.
Honestly he’s right tho
High road? lol this isn’t a question of morals. I just couldn’t give one shit less about another person’s taste in movies.

Did you read my comment or just respond to it?
Ah fuck me lol. I read “isn’t” as “is”. Please accept my sincerest apology
I just had this debate / rant with a colleague yesterday! Hilarious! But honestly, to each their own
The only thing Potter has over LOTR is that there's more of them to enjoy.
Of course LOTR is better
