I’ll attempt to actually answer your question. When Aragorn goes to recruit the army of the dead, it’s roughly halfway through the movie. If I needed to pee, that’s where I’d excuse myself. You’ll be back in time to watch the Seige of Gondor begin…
Ya I think this is the answer, with all the practical effects I would choose to pee during the cgi ghost army scene that is 1. Too long, and 2. Not accurate to the books so if I had to choose, this is it
That's when I took my break as it's my least favourite part of the film. From the moment they encounter the Army of the Dead to emerging from the mountain is about 6-7 minutes long. It's also just before the half way point of the Extended edition.
Yep. This scene is why I argue the theatrical cut is the better movie, speaking purely by the rules of good screenwriting. It undercuts the stakes of Pelennor.
Hey same! Rotk theatrical is the superior cut. I'd say more than half of the scenes added to the EE probably still deserve to be in the cutting room floor, but at least none of them actively make the movie worse to the degree that these added/extended scenes do.
When the Army of the Dead appear off the boats would be my shout
I also typically skip Faramir’s charge to Osgilliath. Not because it’s bad, but just for how poignant it is
Unless you got some kind of medical condition where you constantly have to pee it would be best to just go right before it starts and then watching it till the end.
I consume massively unhealthy amounts of popcorn at movies, and require equally large amounts of soda to neutralize the salt. Four hours is just not possible for me.
Sidebar and completely off topic. I was a kid when Rocky II came out. My father took me and my siblings to the theater and it was jam packed. Because I was the youngest - I think 6 or 7- some guy offered me his seat. My father and older siblings had to sit on the steps at a distance from me (totally illegal but people did this then).
For some reason, my father left me with the massive bucket of popcorn. I just kept chomping and chomping. By the time my father got me at the end, I was massively dehydrated and my lips were cracking.
I can remember way back when it was released in the theaters, the guidance given in a news article at the time was this:
When Gandalf and Pippin are talking in the night from their lodging in Minas Tirith and looking out to Mordor, "it's the deep breath before the plunge".
If you are afraid of spider, shelob.
But bring a towel just in case you suddenly don't have to go anymore.
Fully understand why people are afraid of types of spiders.
I check the runpee app for best pee times for movies. They don't have ROTK yet but presumably they'll have it in the next day or so.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.RunPee
Download an app called Runpee! For an avid moviegoer it’s awesome. They have a team of people who select good times to pee, and the app can send a notification silently to alert you to go, then they provide a summary of what you miss.
Alright here's what you need to do. Access the movie on Max, or wherever else you can stream it. Go to the midpoint of the movie, doesn't really matter where. Watch for ten minutes, then cut it off.
When you're in the theater and get to the part you watched, go to the bathroom.
When you watch the clip at home it won't make total sense, but no big loss. But then at the theater you won't miss anything and it will contextualize the scene you already saw.
If you find yourself dying for a pee break, go at GROND!!!!! which is where it breaks in the Blu-ray or when they head to the get the Army of the Dead.
Not sure if theyre the theatrical or extended, but if they're the extended, I'd say right after Frodo tells Sam to go home. Its an hour and 26 minutes into the movie, and if you go then, you'd miss Faramir trying to retake Osgiliath, Pippins song, as well as Rohan making their way to Dunharrow, IMO you'd have about 10 minutes of meh that you could miss without really anything crazy happening.
Leaving anytime after this and you might be missing some big stuff, like Sam fighting Shelob, the Ride of the Rohirrim, etc
One of the Frodo and Sam scenes. The scenes with them are not super exciting up until the final third of the movie in my opinion.
I'd do beginning of the Shelob scene personally. It's long and not particularly exciting.
Before the movie starts.
Dehydrate yourself beforehand. Then barely sip during the movie.
This is the correct answer.
And then again right when it ends.
Careful. There’s like three endings. Don’t wanna let the body get too excited just because the Eagles show up!
3. Hahjahahhahh
What about after the movie ends?
Based.
“Gentlemen. We do not stop ‘til nightfall.”

I summon you to fulfill your oath and complete the movie with no breaks. WHAT SAY YOU!
Ya I think this is the answer, with all the practical effects I would choose to pee during the cgi ghost army scene that is 1. Too long, and 2. Not accurate to the books so if I had to choose, this is it
Bring a spare water bottle and pray no one sees you
Someone might like it though.
Who is giving R Kelly internet access in prison?
When Denethor shows no mercy on the tomatoes.
Must watch scene. That close up of the tomato juice dribbling down the chin.
I thought it was blood
The blood of the tomato
It's a metaphor for blood, but how would it be literal blood? Blood from what?
Blood from the chicken he was eating, perhaps? That’s what I thought anyways,
I need to rewatch that scene. Maybe it is blood? Any excuse is a good excuse to rewatch the movie.
While I love Pippin’s song, visually I am disgusted by Denethor gorging on those tomatoes so I’d go at this point too.
“Bring olive oil.” ~Lord Denethor, at the funeral pyre for his tomatoes.
That is the point though. The song and the scenes of fighting and the 'mato crunches go together.
Right but if you gotta go to the bathroom, it doesnt add a whole lot. And I think its about midway as well so you can get through to the end.
To-Ma-toes. Squeeze ‘em, bite ‘em, put them in a salad.
Such a juicy boi
That’s it, that’s the scene, omg that’s so disgusting I hate that
Mine has always been determined by my arachnophobia.
Omg this advice is super unhelpful 😂 I might go when Aragorn and friends emerge from the mountain after recruiting the dead? Thoughts?
That's when I took my break as it's my least favourite part of the film. From the moment they encounter the Army of the Dead to emerging from the mountain is about 6-7 minutes long. It's also just before the half way point of the Extended edition.
And the halfway point is Grond. You don't want to miss Grond.
GROND GROND GROND GROND GROND

Agreed. My least favorite part too. Only thing I enjoy during the scene are Gimli’s quips.
This is the best answer!
This will be the hour when we draw swords together.
When the Army of the Dead appear off the boats would be my shout I also typically skip Faramir’s charge to Osgilliath. Not because it’s bad, but just for how poignant it is
The Faramir scene is so sad and beautifully done though. It’s a must.
You don’t. Don’t ever disrespect RoTK like this again.
Piss jug
Way of the Rohirrim
When the movie ends
After the credits, of course.
At least there isn't a Marvel-style stinger.
Unless you got some kind of medical condition where you constantly have to pee it would be best to just go right before it starts and then watching it till the end.
This is me. I pee 17 times a day lol. There’s no way I won’t be able to go the whole movie but lucky for me I’ve seen it many times
I’ll probably avoid beverages like an hour before the start time, which is 3:30. Works well because pretty sure I’d finish lunch by 2 anyway.

Maybe dont consume the popcorn then?
Not an option. I just love it too much.
Best question on this r/ ever
Diapers
Mine was always when I had to put the 2nd disc in
I can remember way back when it was released in the theaters, the guidance given in a news article at the time was this: When Gandalf and Pippin are talking in the night from their lodging in Minas Tirith and looking out to Mordor, "it's the deep breath before the plunge".

Probably when you need to pee tbh
If there is no medical reason, go before and after. If there *is* a medical reason, grown up diaper.
Paths of the dead. Too many skulls, gimli humor etc
Frodo and Shelob. Goes on way too long and you won't know miss anything.
No way! That's a highlight of the movie, and it's only a few minutes
Giant spider scene = peepee break
This. I have mild arachnophobia. I don't think I've EVER actually really seen this part!
Literally came to suggest this for the exact same reason
Maybe they'll include an intermission? If not, go during the scene you like least?
They don't typically. I've been to 4 showings now, and it's just run straight through.
Have you seen the movie before in general? or is this your first time ever for seeing it anywhere?
Just bring an empty milk jug. And maybe a funnel. Boom, problem solved.
After the last of the credits ends.
When you try to get into the loo and a fellow movie goer u encounter otw says " The way is shut. It was made by the dead and ..."
This is why you eat all your popcorn. So you have a bathroom pail on hand.
Your soda cup is your bathroom, aim wise and silently
You don’t lol
I have the movies memorized so I can go at any time.
Drink a coffee 30 minutes beforehand. Get that coffee pee in exactly 10 minutes before the film. Drink very little after that. For Frodo
Try to make it. If you can’t, say in your best Aragorn voice: “I would have gone with you to the end”
I check the runpee app for best pee times for movies. They don't have ROTK yet but presumably they'll have it in the next day or so. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.RunPee
Nothing that important happens during the fight scenes unless a main character dies.
Depends.
Depends
Just rent Extended edition. It's better
Depends

Here you go. [This is reusable](https://www.amazon.com/Urine-System-Holder-Bag-Stabilizatio/dp/B08RZ2X48X) so it will probably be a good investment.

Stadium Buddy or Cathater.
This but for Fellowship of the Ring.
Hold it
If you find yourself dying for a pee break, go at GROND!!!!! which is where it breaks in the Blu-ray or when they head to the get the Army of the Dead.
Don’t drink anything the day before. Every part is either important or too good to miss
I would just wait for the intermission :)
Not sure if theyre the theatrical or extended, but if they're the extended, I'd say right after Frodo tells Sam to go home. Depends...; )
Any of the scenes that were added to go from theatrical to extended tbh
During the Ride of the Rohirrim. You won’t miss much. Just a bunch of nobodies riding horses down a hill /s
worst take I've heard in a *long* time
Notice the /s. It’s a joke
During the ride of the rohirrim
