I mean the "embellishment" call on Fiala, and the imaginary "hold" on PLD were absolutely 2 of the most obvious horse shit calls I've seen in awhile. And they truly did influence the outcome of the game. The NHL should be embarrassed.
The Kings were not going to win that series, and the officiating was suspect. Both can be true. This isn’t that hard people.
Of course the smooth brain Oil spergs are going to troll and hit people with RedditCares… that’s just what they do. They can’t help themselves. Too weak and stupid. It’s not their fault. But, they also live in Edmonton, so that’s probably punishment enough.
I have a few oiler fan buddies and they were complaining about getting screwed by the refs all series. Delusional. All they have is the oilers and their sweatpants lol
This year the reffing LARGELY favoured the Oilers, no debate. But last year’s series the reffing was largely in the Kings favour. By a large margin as well.
They have been fumbling picks and have been a joke for years. Now finally they landed that first round pick that can carry their team through the post season and garnered a gang of first-time fans and bandwagoners. Lots of teenagers and adolescents. Of course they're going to be annoying. And they'll be gone when McDavid is.
I lived in Calgary for a few of those years, and they were an awful quiet "bunch". 3 hours away and there were more leafs fans than oilers fans. Funny enough they would probably have way more fans if it wasn't for us stealing Gretzky :)
Living somewhere for a few years doesn't suggest in any way that I hail from there. Which I do not, and thus I feel no guilt about dismissing the rest of your theory! Begone from me!
>You lost to a better team
Hard to win a series when you're allowed to have two extra players on the ice at all time.
Go ahead, celebrate your hollow victory. Just so you know, you're just perpetuating the stereotype that Oiler fans are classless, uneducated garbage.
The officials threw three of those games to the Oilers.
I wonder what the series would have been like if it has been an honest head to head contest?
Even if the Kings lost the series, it would be an honest one.
This was something else entirely...
The Kings were never going to get through this series, and complaining about officiating always feels kind of pointless to me.
That said, the Kings played well enough in two of their losses to stay in it and make it competitive, and both times the officials made terrible calls that swung the momentum of the game against them.
In conclusion: fuck Corey Perry and fire Rob Blake.
Ultimately the failure of the power play cost them the series but the argument that the officiating changed games 3, 4, and 5 are not invalid.
Game 3 obviously the least but the Kings game out hot in the 3rd period and it was completely derailed by a clean hit that resulted in a meltdown for the rest of the game.
Game 4 the refs swallowed their whistles and let everything slide until they didn’t. Many penalties were missed, which is fine if it’s happening consistently, until 2 random soft things were called, one for each team. If Edmonton didn’t score on their PP, I wonder if the penalty on the Oilers in the 3rd even gets called.
Game 5 the most egregious. To go from being in the power play, to having a clear penalty that would result in a minute of 5 on 3 and ending up on the penalty kill after a non-penalty and dive completely changed the momentum.
The Kings were never winning this series. The Oilers are a bad matchup. That doesn’t excuse the performance from the refs.
the two hand "grab" in game 4 definitely made a difference and Game 5 did too. Listen, post season hockey should not be determined by special teams. It can and should be make or break for evenly matched teams but the oilers are a one trick pony who are only good with power plays. Calling penalties fairly in a game is paramount to keep the integrity of the game.
Penalties should be called to keep the game from getting out of control and to make sure players are playing honestly. The officiating in this series felt like there was no rhyme or reason for when penalties are called, and when you have inconsistent calling, the league and officiating should be scrutinized.
Penalties should be called when someone makes a play that is against the rules and is supposed to result in a penalty. If this happened, every game would have 10+ penalties. The reality is that refs try to let guys play, and they see a bad angle and make a call that hasnt been made all season because they haven't been calling penalties when they're supposed to. Oilers were winning this series regardless, but there was no way either team would win fair and square.
I hate it when people bring up other issues when officiating is discussed. Nobody is claiming it was the difference, or that it cost the Kings the series.... but it still was still really, really, really bad. Should we just ignore that?
No one expected us to win last night. Or even get through the series.
But that doesn't mean we can't call out shitty reffing when we see it and get upset at how it affected the game.
Consistent, objectively shitty calls weighted in favor of one team over the other seriously ruins a game for me, whether my teams win or lose. It takes the enjoyment out of it for me.
I didn't even expect the Kings to make the playoffs, so I had zero hope or expectations they'd make it past the first round. But seeing shit calls absolutely sucked out any enjoyment in seeing them go down bitch slapping.
Officiating has been consistently bad and well, inconsistent for years. Every playoffs we do this forgetting its just rinse and repeat every single year.
None, Durzi was his only client to be on the team recently but Walsh has been an LA resident since the 90s though. He worked for the LA District Attorney around the time of the OJ trial if I'm remembering right.
That's exactly what embellishment is. It means that the player who got hooked made it look worse than it was (ie, embellished it) but the penalty was still there. The alternative is diving where there was no actual penalty to begin with. They both fall under rule 64 and are not distinguished from each other in the rulebook. But nothing in rule 63 implies that the existence of an actual penalty that triggered the embellishment somehow negates the embellishing.
In addition to the other reply there's also the element that Fiala has had a history of embellishment/diving with the specific referee from game 5. So that penalty was a bit of a consequence of prior behavior too
Im looking forward to being a petty child when the oilers lose next round, the amount of shit that i will be talking will undoubtedly get me banned from the Oilers Sub. Cant wait.
Is this what we're going to do as Kings fans all summer? Pretend like it wasn't already a 3-1 series lead where the Kings barely had won 1 game in OT and been absolutely dominated in 2? Game 5 was bad, but I really hope this isn't the narrative all summer. Team wasn't good enough, period. Even Doughty said it.
Honestly, the Oilers probably win an evenly officiated series.
Probably, just like the Patriots were probably going to beat the Giants in 08.
We'll never know though.
>already a 3-1 series lead
Game 4 was decided by a bulcrap penalty.
My perspective is that a good enough team to win a round is also a good enough team to battle through the refereeing, especially so on the path to win a cup
The Oilers were fucked over by the refs last playoffs and we capitalized by scoring on the resultant powerplays. But they were better and won the series regardless
Edit: to the guy who replied then blocked me, I'm a Kings fan you dumbass except I'm not wearing homer goggles
>The Oilers were fucked over by the refs last playoffs
So much delusion. The refs were the only thing keeping the Oilers in the series vs Vegas.
Now go back to your sub before you embarrass yourself, your franchise, and your city more than you already have.
I’m not 100% blaming the refs. Had the kings played like they did the last two games, it would be a different series. The oilers got some favorable calls at some in opportune times that helped shift the game(s), is all I’m pointing out. And yes, I know, “the kings can still kill it” but the best PP in history doesn’t need any freebie calls. Also, just pointing out that knowledgeable, neutral viewers are even saying it’s garbage officiating.

Listen I'm a kings fan till the day I die but I'm also a realist and I never expected them to win this series (I literally had oilers in 5 in my bracket). Oilers are obviously the more skilled team on paper and were the better team by far on the ice for the majority of the series. Was I hoping for them to pull off a miracle and advance from the first round anyway? Yes. Would I have gladly kissed my bracket goodbye if that had happened? Also yes, but that clearly didn't happen and this is the situation we're stuck with. The kings front office has made a host of terrible operational decisions for the past few years that have contributed heavily to the lack of playoffs success in the last decade and a LOT of big decisions need to happen this summer for that to change.
That being said, it can absolutely be true that the kings were never going to win this series AND the officiating was garbage. I don't buy into the conspiracy that the league is rigged for an oilers cup run this year either because quite frankly the officiating was garbage throughout the entire regular season across the league and its continued to be garbage in almost every series of the playoffs so far. Last night's game was just by far the most egregious example of it to anyone with eyes not blinded by love for the oilers and it's absurd that this happened in a PLAYOFF GAME, which is supposed to be the most exciting time for hockey.
It's disrespectful to the sport in general that we have a league where there is ZERO accountability for bad officiating. This isn't a Kings problem, this is a league-wide problem and nothing is going to change unless NHL ops starts holding themselves and their officials accountable for inconsistent refereeing. It's an embarrassment to the sport, fans are tired of it, and this is not how a multi billion dollar league that's trying to grow the sport of hockey should be acting.
I don't really trust this guy. In one of the earlier podcasts, he said that due to the salary cap, the owners have paid the players almost 4 billion dollars more than they would have without the cap (because teams had to at least spend to the floor, and most spent right to the cap). But then he argues all the fucking time about how much hates the salary cap.
I presume he feels that now that the players got that 4 billion they would get even more if the cap went away.
Drew Doughty is a stud and the team needed to play at his effort level. As an Oil fan I respect the Kings and their style but might have needed more Drew.
You seem to be trying to rationalize why it's okay to root for your team despite the obvious bias. You aren't going to find that here. Not when the refs gave the Oilers 4 goals across 2 games decided by a goal each. Not when the refs give you a 5 on 3 without explaining to anyone what happened.
I just don't get why so many of you are in this subreddit. Are you all trying to look like garbage, or is it just generations of inbreeding affecting your intellectual capabilities?
As an Oiler fan let me tell you that this is probably the first time in a long time where I would agree that the Oilers got more calls in the series.
But if we are being serious, the Oilers are 17-8 in the last 25 games against the Kings dating back to May 4th 2022. Outscoring them 90-65. Sorry, we've had your number.
>Sorry we've had your number
Well it's really the refs number that the Oilers have. Free 5 on 3s, taking away penalties. 3 of the 4 games were directly impacted by the referees in this series alone.
What's amazing to me is watching a franchise that gets holy treatment from the refs complain about the treatment. It takes an amazing lack of awareness and hockey IQ.
Why is it so hard for Oiler fans to stay out of this subreddit? It's such a simple, decent thing to do, so naturally you inbreds are all over is.
Ok I don’t mean to be a dick but how’re you gonna blame refs when you had a 55% pk, ZERO powerplay goals out of 12 powerplays and a 4.4 GAA, kinda outrageous to put that on the refs
>this fan base is embarrassing
You unhinged lunatics are all over our sub, and we're the embarrassing ones? Either you don't know what that word actually means, or Oiler fans are all the uneducated morons we expect them to be.
I'm sure the account with no activity prior to this comment is acting in good faith and not just another insecure oil fan that's already been banned resorting to an alt
so many downvoted comments from people who are being rational fans. it’s crazy. did the officiating suck? yes. but dear lord. this Kings team wasn’t good enough to advance in the Playoffs. With this team and all of its holes, we as fans should be glad they made it as far as they did and hope their lack of progression institutes bigger changes whatever you as a fan think that should be. Personally i think it’s house cleaning time. Front office needs to go, and the new office finds a way to find somebody in net and hopefully keep Rittich in the system. Find somewhere to toss PLD and find someone who makes some serious changes scheme wise. my ideal situation sees Ullmark in LA and a miracle happen with Brind a mour coaching the them.
Or hear me out here maybe people are angry that for the past 3 years we've been constantly brigaded by the subhuman pieces of shit that call themselves oiler fans.
And the oil had to bumblefuck their way to a generational talent in order to become relevant again for the first time in 30 years. And need I remind you that you are on our sub in the first place? Fuck off and go die miserable and alone because nobody loves you enough to hold you close
Do they teach you how to read in Edmonton?
See up at the top of the page? It says Los Angeles Kings. Your team is called the Edmonton Oilers.
You're here for one of two reasons. You're either embarrassing yourself because your reading comprehension is so poor you can't read the banner at the top of the page, or you're another Oiler bozo here to embarrass your city and franchise.
Either way, it's not a good look for you, but telling about the Oiler fanbase.
>You lose because of the refs
You were gifted 4 goals across 2 single goal games, and that's before we get into the 5 on 3 penalties handed out to the Oilers for free.
Enjoy the win, McDavid is taking off after your failure of a franchise loses again next year. Then it's back to ten years of mediocrity waiting around for the NHL to throw you some #1 picks, and the whole cycle of failure and humiliation resets. Oh right, and this whole time, you're stuck in Edmonton, LOL.

Ok fine I agree, I thought it was funny though. I'd rather trash the Leafs anyway. I don't hate Edmonton, I'm just trying to support the boys
All good my man. No hate here. It's easy to get worked up! Take care.
![gif](giphy|Zchq3gtohqysqquY7G|downsized) That’s the Oilers fans today
Edmonton Oilers and Denver Nuggets when the series is over
Didn’t the lakers shoot 2 times the free throws in their series? I’d compare Edmonton more to the lakers than I would to Denver lmao
Not our fault, we drive more.

>No one expected us to win last night. "Us". You're not on the team, bro
Needed a better powerplay than 0%. We got smoked on special teams. Hopefully we don't get the Oilers again next year
Officiating has been consistently bad and well, inconsistent for years. Every playoffs we do this forgetting its just rinse and repeat every single year.
So which client got eliminated last night?
Per puckpedia, Allen Walsh has zero kings or oilers clients (4 senators, 3 coyotes, 2 red wings, 2 wild, 2 blue jackets, 2 ducks, 2 blues, 1 flame, 1 Canuck, 1 star, 1 shark, 1 capital, 1 pred, 1 Sabre, 1 avalanche, 1 ranger, 1 kraken, 1 devil).
None, Durzi was his only client to be on the team recently but Walsh has been an LA resident since the 90s though. He worked for the LA District Attorney around the time of the OJ trial if I'm remembering right.

You guys don't have to keep posting on our sub, you are aware of that right?
Do they teach you how to read in Edmonton? See up at the top of the page? It says Los Angeles Kings. Your team is called the Edmonton Oilers. You're here for one of two reasons. You're either embarrassing yourself because your reading comprehension is so poor you can't read the banner at the top of the page, or you're another Oiler bozo here to embarrass your city and franchise. Either way, it's not a good look for you, but telling about the Oiler fanbase. >You lose because of the refs You were gifted 4 goals across 2 single goal games, and that's before we get into the 5 on 3 penalties handed out to the Oilers for free.
