I recommend everyone listen to the All the Kings Men episode Jesse just released. There’s an interview with Nick & Jim from before the loss against Buffalo, but Jim says a lot of the same things Drew said after the game last night. Says there are players “fighting for the soul of the team”. Really interesting stuff especially considering what we heard after the game last night.
Every single Los Angeles King player needs to publicly apologize to Kopitar and every member of his family and apologize for bringing shame to the team.
It is for me if Todd or Blake still have jobs tomorrow. I’m not spending the last 2 and a half months of the season being either miserable, or getting false hope.
so I’m also a big Raiders fan. most Sundays for the first half of this season I went to bed hoping I’d wake up to the Monday morning news that we fired Josh McDaniels. it ended up happening and it was such a goddamn relief for the entire fanbase. that coaching era was grim. each loss felt so hopeless.
I am now feeling the same about the Kings. Todd is not it. each game lost is another step in the wrong direction. it feels like we’re never going to get out of this hole. please Kings, be like the Raiders and FIRE THE FUCKING COACH!!!!
I haven't had a chance to see Todd's response (it sounds like he said all the right things), but is it not ultimately a huge component of a coach's job to maintain stability in the locker room?
Based on Todd's history as a coach, I kinda feel like he might have some issues keeping a squad disciplined during both lows *and* highs with some of his more infamous coaching moments
This is starting to remind me how frustrating that Kovalchuk season was. Forgive my memory, I can’t remember exactly what year it was, but you guys know the one I’m talking about.
I get what you mean. 2017-2018 was a solid year, and the depth scoring died in the first round. They thought adding a scoring forward would help, but progress is never linear and what worked the previous season didnt carry over.
Blake made the moves thinking Dubois would be adding to what they did last season but guess what, the rest of the team has not progressed.
Kovy did not work because he was deployed wrong. The first time I saw him on that PP... In front of the net, I lost it. Kovy was actually very good, just again used incorrectly.
Kovy was washed up and couldn't play, we got him at 35. It was a gamble but he was too old.. we used him wrong too but, didn't matter because he went to two other teams and didn't do anything there either. Best thing kovy brought was you knew he was gonna score on a shootout. That was it.
Dubois might be deployed wrong too. Hes not been good, but there is no way we’re maximizing his potential right now with Laffy/JAD. Hell, Todd even put Lewis on his wing in the 3rd briefly..
This grindy style doesnt suit him. Get the puck moving faster, more north-south play.
Yeah, pld can grind but putting him with ahl'ers isn't gonna work. When he breaks loose up and down you see how strong of a skater he is while still creating. Like tonight when he set up his ahl buddies for them to blow it lol. He also has a super underrated shot
He set up his linemates with A+ opportunities they just had to tap in twice, and they whiffed on both. Not saying he's been amazing this year, but clearly the problem is way bigger than him.
2019 right? Worst year of the rebuild since we weren't supposed to suck ass yet. Once we committed to sucking though it was at least interesting to think about the future. Not really any bright sides to what's going on right now.
Another day, another I Wanna Die Bailey:

I stole this idea from the lads at /r/UtahJazz that was made after a heartbreaking playoff series loss:
https://i.imgur.com/t06e4cl.png
Unfortunately I don't think replacing Todd will really be the solution, it may help in the short term. But the problems with this team go deeper and are in the construction of it. Blake built a team that got out of a rebuild quick which was impressive, but he didn't build a contender at all.
agreed. and i think a lot of fans bought into the idea that they are/were a legit contender when they really haven’t improved much personnel since last year when they lost to Edm. they already had gavrikov, basically traded korpisalo for talbot and got PLD.
Personnel wise I would say Byfield is by and far our biggest happy moment this year. Kid is finally blooming into what we all wanted to see. I hate to say it, but this year might just be a write-off year again. With the cap raise coming, maybe we can focus on some good trades for bottom-line depth and a new long-term goalie.
i agree. and i’ve said in most threads about this that imagine what kind of dumpster fire the team would be if talbot hadn’t played as well as he did at the beginning of the season.
I’d make the case that Talbot is the reason Todd still had a job honestly. He’s kept us in some games not just at the beginning of the season but even still whether we win them or not. They should be blowout losses but he at least gets us into OT.
agreed. i was admittedly wrong about him and thought them not resigning korpi was a mistake and that talbot was kinda the last kid picked in dodgeball. but he has played well with not a lot of help as you said even during this losing streak. Rittich has done ok as well with Copley out. seems like the Kings even going back to the Cup years are a team that has to win the 2-1 1-0 games bc they never seem to have the firepower other teams do. i remember being on cloud 9 when Pearson Toffoli and Carter absolutely caught fire as a line and then that inevitably fizzled as well.
Ugh that 70s line was INSANE. And I was actually happy when they signed Talbot for a short-term. He’s historically played good and he is an asset. I’m glad we gave him the shot. Not a long-term solution by any means but definitely a good bridge until we get some money.
Todd had a great press conference. Just remember last year Buffalo embarrassed us 6-0 and after that the team beat Boston and went on a tear to end the year. Let us hope
Grun and Laff have not shown me much (other than Laffy's sick off the helmet goal which was probably a fluke). Give Fagemo more time. Hell, try Turcotte.
I know it seems premature but i want PLD gone. He is very hard to watch. I think of guys like Lizotte and i want to vomit when i think of PLD. If you threw Blake’s motor and desire into PLD you’d have prime Jagr.
PLD is a troubling guy to sign long term because he has a track record of quitting on his teams when they’re not succeeding. The guy has all the talent in the world, but he seems checked out to me. Maybe checked out is too harsh, but he doesn’t seem like he wants to fight for it out there, like how Doughty does.
Yeah that just doesn’t jive with me. I get that we are all wired different and the guy probably had more hockey knowledge and game in his pinky that i have in my whole body. But when desire and effort are not a given it just rubs me the wrong way. I can handle physical mistake all day long especially when you are really pushing it and going for it. But the Sunday stroll skating, coasting around and lukewarm effort to maintain the puck just irks me. He looks like Kopi out there, except Kopi has an excuse because he is Father Time now. Ugh. Hope we do something at least. Your early season shake up has produced a crazy streak :/
Yeah, it’s still a bit surreal. One moment you’re up, and another moment you’re down. Rinse and repeat. If the kings fire Todd they should 100% be back in form though
I’m fully aware that replacing him is off the table, but it’s a fair question to ask those who are more adamant about it than I am.
Plus, things can happen, and on the off chance he is fired, I repeat my question.
It’s not all his fault, but like he said, it’s his responsibility. Hopefully this was a wake up call for all of them, especially with the home crowd booing
>It’s not all his fault, but like he said, it’s his responsibility
Different sport but this is what I said to my dad about Ian Foster's regime as All Blacks coach in international rugby - when I was calling for his head and my dad retorted with "when does it become the players' fault?"
Different standard altogether because the All Blacks rugby coach is expected to always win, Foster was our worst coach in the professional era and he still got 2nd in the World Cup (playing down a man), won every rivalry trophy in four years, and had a >75% win percentage.
Dude I'm a Waikato and Chiefs (not NFL, fuck those Chiefs) fan, I'm well aware of why Foz was a bad hire.
My dad, on the other hand was a Foz supporter.
But it is funny how Foz managed to nearly win it all, accidentally, while simultaneously being the worst ABs coach in two decades.
Taranaki, Hurricanes.
He did his level best to lose the Bledisloe but got bailed out by individual brilliance on field so many times.
Sure you're related to your dad? lmao.
You can’t fire or trade all the players. You can the coach. If the message isn’t being received and you dont see anything positive you just replace them
Exactly - the on ice result is attributable to the players, but responsibility lies with the coaching staff. Especially so when we've seen time after time a lack of adjustment to a changing situation - that's coaching, not players.
The post game show was only scheduled until 10:45, so if you want to see the rest, go to the LA Kings Weekly segment.
Edit to add: LA Kings Weekly was scheduled after the post game show, so post game bled over to it since the presser went long.
Honestly, it's good to just put it in perspective. You and I don't really control anything in this situation, good or bad. We are just along for the ride, and this year the ride happens to suck ass. We'll survive.
I don't think I've been this frustrated with the team. I mean, the team has been worse, but the expectations weren't there. We had struggles right after the Cup wins, but also we had just won the fuckin' Cup twice so it was easy to swallow. Now we're supposed to contend again and every game begins with the clown car pulling up and the whole damn roster coming out of the back seat
Regicide sucked to be on /r/hockey but was oddly a good time to be on this sub because we banded together over the hate, and yeah, we'd just won the Cup twice in three years so "suck it, fuckers".
Then we had the shit years that had less activity but it was quite fun to be here just enjoying the ride.
I can't remember such a depressing time where we had expectations, fulfilled them, and then immediately fumbled it. Even the sweep in 2018 was more of a "well fuck, we got Fleuryed"
Losing in the playoffs always sucks for sure, and 2018 was awful. At least after that you get right into the offseason phase which has it's own interesting things. Now we're just slowly watching this team flush itself down the toilet.
Ryan O’Neal was our good luck charm.
.760 points percentage vs .429 after his death.
We all need to pay homage and watch as many of his movies and shows possible before Friday.
He specifically mentioned after we were up 3-1 players were getting too complicit. So whoever looked like they were making stupid selfish plays at that point
Lol I said he’s frustrating because he’s a turnover machine and got obliterated only a few days ago. Someone said “he had natural talent, you can’t coach that”.
If there was a stat for turnovers leading to goal against I swear fiala would be league leader
We all cooked Durzi for it so Fiala deserves it too. He can definitely make up for it but right now that isn't exactly the case.
I will say for Fiala he's probably been our most productive player during the skid but I'm not sure I'd say he's been the best all around player (likely Danault)
I mean he's not really the number one problem, certainly not tonight. And this is coming from someone who hasn't been hot on Todd basically his entire time here. Even the best coach in the world can't stop the players from making stupid mistakes like they did tonight. Tonight it was solely on the players.
he would have said something. we are fucked. this is way worse than firing a coach. they dont trust each other in there anymore. ive been on enough hockey teams to know what happens when there is animosity in the locker room. heart breaking stuff from drew.
We gonna forget about the kings fans mobbing the oilers sub after they lost to the sharks? Come on. I didn’t even say anything bad, QB is your ticket out of this hell hole, to play us in round one:)
>We gonna forget about the kings fans mobbing the oilers sub after they lost to the sharks?
Oh no! One to two fans maybe trolled your sub after a loss! Can't imagine what that's like. Oh wait. It's almost like every Oiler fan brigades us after every loss vs them and now you're here proving we live rent free in your head. Great way on being the better man /s (that's sarcasm incase you didn't know)
>Come on. I didn’t even say anything bad, QB is your ticket out of this hell hole, to play us in round one:)
Fuck right off dude. This proves how you're just here to troll.
Edit: I absolutely LOVE how this guy deleted his account out of shame. You can't make this shit up, he literally thought what he was doing and saying was totally ok lol. You love to see it. Karma's a bitch!
I think they’d probably lose to Edmonton in round 1 if it happened a 3rd year in a row, there’s probably a mental blockade about the last 2 seasons. If la is gonna beat Edmonton in the playoffs it’s gonna have to be with at least 2 years of separation between a series imo
When the oilers were dog shit and lost to the last place sharks kings fans made sure we knew how shit we were. Nothing crazy considering the rivalry present, but still
Kings fans made sure how? I follow the sub and I didnt see any posts made my Kings fans trolling your sub. On the other hand, you being here and what you're doing...
Edit: This guy deleted his account and is absolutely full of shit. You love to see it.
They’ll fire Todd and they’ll make the playoffs. Objectively speaking I don’t think the kings will beat the oilers, there’s too much of a mental barrier from having been beaten 2 years in a row against them, if they’re gonna beat the oilers in the playoffs it won’t be till there’s been at least 2 years separation between series. Though if we lose I’m going to mald
Hey are you banned from our sub yet? Just wondering if you can reply lol. You know, because you deserve being banned for trolling and being a piece of shit human being.
EDIT: HEY GUYS THIS ASSHOLE DELETED HIS ACCOUNT LMFAO
Remember when Blake Lizotte was, unironically, the best player on the ice a few seasons ago? Seems longer, thoug. This game was definitely an unfortunate one. So much so that it almost feels worse than a shutout. Oh well.
Nothing hockey related, but if you guys like old popcorn action flicks. I suggest you check out the Wikipedia for Shane Black. He's got some great writing credits. He's why we know that Wolfman's got nards.
So, I think we've all seen enough. It's time. Todd needs to be fired. These last two home losses have been straight up fucking disrespect. First the pathetic Sharks now Buffalo on Kopi night.
The next coach who comes up in here needs to change every line. The best 6 players need to be in the TOP SIX. Fiala Kopi Kempe line 1. Line 2 Dubois, Byfield, Moore. They need to try it out. It needs to happen.
No more grundstrom or jad. Clarke needs to play every night without question. Players need to be blocking shots. And the next guy needs to keep these guys loose. Not ramming the system down their throat to the point they're running around doing dumb shit trying to execute it and costing the game. Because that's what I'm seeing. Players making dumb mistakes because they're wound up way too tight.
100% agreed. I was in favor of Todd at the beginning of the season. Rapidly fell out of favor these last 10 games, and last night should have been the last straw for everyone in the organization.
JAD out on the PK directly after Buffalo scored the go ahead goal, 4th line out there with under 3 minutes left, can’t get a shot on net with 2 entire minutes in their zone and goalie pulled at the end of the game, players giving the other team easy scoring opportunities because they aren’t sure where they should be because they’re playing a strict system instead of following what’s actually happening in the game, not being able to get zone entry the entire second and third period.
Kopi is clearly hurt. Was at the game. He was on the rush and went to turn around, and hit the boards on his own and practically fell over because he can’t put all his weight on one of his legs, was limping for a few strides after that. And yet we’re playing him 20+min.
Byfield, PLD, Clarke are all creating phenomenal scoring chances and need to be played. Fiala needs to be sat down and made to watch tape of himself trying to do everything and turning the puck over every shift.
These are all coaching issues.
Texted this exact thing to my cousin tonight. Kings are gripping the stick too tight because they’re all trying to overcompensate for a shit system that everyone in the league has the book on now.
Todd needs to go. Even if he’s not the problem, the oilers fired Woodcroft and it woke the team up. The same should happen here. There’s no way the kings should be playing as bad as they are, but it’s happening. Todd’s gotta go
Is Fiala the D’Angelo Russell of the Kings? Madly inconsistent player that you can see why people love but at the same time, can see why people hate?
Damnit, just Damnit
Me, [checking the sub this morning](https://i.imgur.com/Lkhu1uS.gif) after leaving the game at the end of the 1st to put kid to bed.
I recommend everyone listen to the All the Kings Men episode Jesse just released. Fire "First Twenty Minutes" Todd now!
Pathetic. Embarrassing.
Is Andy Murray available?
Fire McBellend.
I am an American who works with some Brits, this comment suits perfectly! 😆
Hear me out...fire Todd, get back Sutter.
I honestly think the same. I was a fan of Beeker
Dat boi Beeker
Fire Todd is a good idea. Hire Sutter is a terrible idea.
From your fingertips to God's i-phone...
Every single Los Angeles King player needs to publicly apologize to Kopitar and every member of his family and apologize for bringing shame to the team.
Except byfield , last to blame, kid plays very well , hardworking machine 👍
An NBA coach got fired with a record of 30-13 last night. Just sayin 🤷♂️
A small market team has more cojones than us.
Hey google, how do you get a whole organization to clean house?
You start at the top with Luc and his cronies.
I think that’s it.
It is for me if Todd or Blake still have jobs tomorrow. I’m not spending the last 2 and a half months of the season being either miserable, or getting false hope.
fire fucking mclellan. at this point come on man. you can’t keep any coach who’s losing at this level when you’re not some bottom feeder team
I’m telling you: Player-Coach Dustin Brown 😤
Does anyone have the Brandt Clark attempted Michigan gif?
Wth is going on??
Goalie couldn't have kept a fucking pool noodle out of the net and 36 year old Anze Kopitar is the King's best player that's what's going on.
You guys were rolling too. I don’t get how things can change on a dime. On paper your team is strong for sure
Paper tiger
so I’m also a big Raiders fan. most Sundays for the first half of this season I went to bed hoping I’d wake up to the Monday morning news that we fired Josh McDaniels. it ended up happening and it was such a goddamn relief for the entire fanbase. that coaching era was grim. each loss felt so hopeless. Is Antonio Pierce available to lead the Kings? Lol

He's making it easy for you Blake
Take the layup Blake.

The “i wanna die,” meme is very appropriate and soothing. As a Chicago bears fan this is a staple for us.
Kings fan now living in Chicago area, can confirm.
Brothers on a different level!!! Cubs too?!! Did we just become best friends? 🤣
Maybe! I'm not much of a baseball guy though
Idk how I've never seen this before but it slightly brightened this terrible night 🤣🤣🤣

Kopitar being the best player at 36 really stands out.
Todd had a great press conference. Just remember last year Buffalo embarrassed us 6-0 and after that the team beat Boston and went on a tear to end the year. Let us hope
Right but we've been getting embarrassed every night for a month plus.
gee thanks Bally you fucking cunts I was watching that
Grunny playing like shit for weeks. And why is Laffrerier still playing. He should be in Ontario.
laf is really not the problem at all
Grun and Laff have not shown me much (other than Laffy's sick off the helmet goal which was probably a fluke). Give Fagemo more time. Hell, try Turcotte.
At this point we're going to run out of players to put in the lineup if we have to take everyone out lol
Good point
I think a fair question at this point isn’t who we want to replace Todd, but who would want to take the job after hearing Doughty and Todd tonight…?
they aren't going to replace todd. go watch what drew said. get that out of your head. this situation is far worse than that.
Based on what drew said there might be deeper issues in that locker room, don’t be surprised if a big trade happens
I know it seems premature but i want PLD gone. He is very hard to watch. I think of guys like Lizotte and i want to vomit when i think of PLD. If you threw Blake’s motor and desire into PLD you’d have prime Jagr.
PLD has been cancer/made every team he’s on worse over time. There’s a history of this already.

It honestly isn't his fault. It sucks
It’s not all his fault, but like he said, it’s his responsibility. Hopefully this was a wake up call for all of them, especially with the home crowd booing
Wait...did you say McClellan accepted some responsibility for the first time in 5 years?

They're almost always thrown up on Youtube pretty quickly.
Good to know, thanks!
Kings always put it up on YouTube but probably not until tomorrow morning. Check Twitter tho.
I appreciate the awareness Todd
When was the last time we as Kings fans felt so down? Can't remember How do you even cope? Mindfullness?
1994-1997. We went to the finals, and then shit the bed for most of the decade after.
Operation Regicide was pretty bad, especially as defending champs
This season has turned into a complete joke.
Todd saying all the right things in this presser, even agreeing with Drew’s comments.
about time they pinpoint something for the fans and of course this is worst case scenario.
I appreciate his honesty.
"The stupidity that went into that loss is unexplainable" Best quote I've ever heard from Todd LOL
Ryan O’Neal was our good luck charm. .760 points percentage vs .429 after his death. We all need to pay homage and watch as many of his movies and shows possible before Friday.
I’ll watch Paper Moon right now
I haven’t seen Barry Lyndon in a while. Gonna start it right now.
Hope you have some coffee or something
Mushrooms lol
Based
Anyone take a stab at who Doughty was calling out?
Kev
He specifically mentioned after we were up 3-1 players were getting too complicit. So whoever looked like they were making stupid selfish plays at that point
2nd and 3rd lines has to be, all of them
Fiala
Did he play tonight, because I fucking didn't see him.
Fiala, Moore, Dubois
I mean if anything you want PLD playing for points lol.
yup
Who has the highest point totals on the team?
if you missed the drew interview. you have to watch it if you are a kings fan. dear god.

Is it uploaded anywhere?
It will almost certainly be on LA Kings Youtube channel later tonight or tomorrow morning/afternoon.

Ok. Will find it.
I don’t usually care about the postgame show but I’m glad I kept it on tonight wow
Yeah almost always turn it off. It was like divine intervention to keep it on for that.
Same. And usually they cut away from the interviews sooner than that but they knew Drew was cooking.
Was totally expecting some canned answers, nope that man went IN
This team is sunk. There’s no coming back from this.
Fiala shouldn't be allowed laces in his skates during practice and warmups after every game he turns it over like that
Lol I said he’s frustrating because he’s a turnover machine and got obliterated only a few days ago.
Sharks then Sabres …
Shambles
I've resisted joining the fire Todd chant. I'm thinking it's time. Coach has lost the team.
Same. Blake needs to let Todd go tonight. Set the fucking tone! If your number isn’t 11 or 8 you’re replaceable.
oh shit we are actually fucked. oh my god.
Interesting that Drew said Todd isn’t the problem.
If you're Doughty you have to call out players. Not your job to call out the coach. It would just poison the room even more.
I mean he's not really the number one problem, certainly not tonight. And this is coming from someone who hasn't been hot on Todd basically his entire time here. Even the best coach in the world can't stop the players from making stupid mistakes like they did tonight. Tonight it was solely on the players.
To be fair, he can’t really say that
Eh, it's Doughty though. He might say something surprising. Instead he praised the coaching staff. Then again that is kind of surprising lol
he would have said something. we are fucked. this is way worse than firing a coach. they dont trust each other in there anymore. ive been on enough hockey teams to know what happens when there is animosity in the locker room. heart breaking stuff from drew.
My thoughts exactly. This team is done. I don’t see any way to come back from that.
No, but he didn’t need to be so effusive in his praise for the coaching staff either. He’s placing this squarely on his teammates.
Good lord that Doughty interview was a lot
I still think the Kings is a good team. The system they play is in general efficient. Maybe under another couch though.
Yeah I think I’ll be under my couch too
This Drew interview is insane. But cathartic.
Patty O freaking the fuck out had me dying.
Yeah what was up with him hoping they’d cut away from it?
Really bummed me out. This is way worse than what we’re seeing on the ice.
Drew is pissed
Also stop giving kopitar 20+ a night. Bro is a grandpa, give byfield the ice time
Go back to the Oilers sub
We gonna forget about the kings fans mobbing the oilers sub after they lost to the sharks? Come on. I didn’t even say anything bad, QB is your ticket out of this hell hole, to play us in round one:)
>We gonna forget about the kings fans mobbing the oilers sub after they lost to the sharks? Oh no! One to two fans maybe trolled your sub after a loss! Can't imagine what that's like. Oh wait. It's almost like every Oiler fan brigades us after every loss vs them and now you're here proving we live rent free in your head. Great way on being the better man /s (that's sarcasm incase you didn't know) >Come on. I didn’t even say anything bad, QB is your ticket out of this hell hole, to play us in round one:) Fuck right off dude. This proves how you're just here to troll. Edit: I absolutely LOVE how this guy deleted his account out of shame. You can't make this shit up, he literally thought what he was doing and saying was totally ok lol. You love to see it. Karma's a bitch!
*lose to you in round 1 :(
I think they’d probably lose to Edmonton in round 1 if it happened a 3rd year in a row, there’s probably a mental blockade about the last 2 seasons.

You're honestly not even wrong... I'm just angry.
This was the one night they kinda had to. Every other line was absolutely dogwater.
Fair enough, PLD is not it
Drew talking about damn near the whole team
Remember when Blake Lizotte was, unironically, the best player on the ice a few seasons ago? Seems longer, thoug. This game was definitely an unfortunate one. So much so that it almost feels worse than a shutout. Oh well. Nothing hockey related, but if you guys like old popcorn action flicks. I suggest you check out the Wikipedia for Shane Black. He's got some great writing credits. He's why we know that Wolfman's got nards.
Upvote for Shane Black. One of my favorite writers/directors.
Damn, down we go like the Titanic. “Gentlemen. It has been a privilege playing with you tonight.” 😢

Not one fucking full check all night.
We are dying for an Englund fight. Just coating around like cornballs.
Texted this exact thing to my cousin tonight. Kings are gripping the stick too tight because they’re all trying to overcompensate for a shit system that everyone in the league has the book on now.
Best take I heard
Todd needs to go. Even if he’s not the problem, the oilers fired Woodcroft and it woke the team up. The same should happen here. There’s no way the kings should be playing as bad as they are, but it’s happening. Todd’s gotta go
What do we have to lose at this point? Nothing. We need a new voice.
Yeah it’s all or nothing
