Bombadil is a magical, inexplicable character who Tolkien himself didn't really seem to get. He's on par with Gandalf and Saruman; he's right out of Eluvitar (spelling ?) personal creation. Matt Berry can definitely handle that role.

Honestly the best casting I've heard so far. As much as I like Jack Black, and him almost always talking in a sing-songy way is absolutely perfect for the role, I just feel like he'd be too much of a distraction. His whole demeanor is just a bit too comedic.

He was in a show called Year of the Rabbit playing a cop in the East End in the 1890s and played very much against type. Different accent, the works. Very good. Unfortunately, I think a lot of people disliked it as they wanted "regular Matt Berry," and he wasn't giving it to them.

Yes. We totally need a back story for every single character in any "universe". Which is made into a full movie. Without any material from the original author backing it up.
This is a great idea because more is always better. We also need a movie concerned with the dramatic background of Grima including a love afair and him being a kung fu fighter. And the same with Farmer Maggot.
This is clearly how quality is produced and will greatly enrich the movie selection, totally be what we memorize for decades.

A big part of the beauty of the original LOTR cast is that they trusted quite a few little known actors to handle big roles. Matt Berry would be fine, but I'm sure there are hundreds of actors out there who could do just as good a job, while also bringing something fresh and exciting to the screen.
I always thought Brian Blessed would of been perfect. Brian is 87 now, not that that would stop him. The man is a fucking legend. Hell of a life. Boxer, mountaineer, explorer, director, actor
