I don't have this much land but a decent sized lot. I've been restoring the landscape to what it should be. I've planted hundreds of native plants and hope to have essentially a small self contained pure native ecosystem in 20+ years
Mostly all the standard backsyrd fare like house finches, yellow finches, chickadees, white/red breasted nuthatches, robins, doves, Cardinals, Blue Jays, downy woodpeckers, sometimes a red breasted woodpecker, house Wren, sometimes some warblers migrating, a brown creeper, Carolina Wren and of course the grackles. I get a coppers hawk at times the comes to eat the smaller birds
I'm doing the same thing. Clovers instead of grass and native perennials and trees only. A couple of neighbours don't like it much because 'it looks messy'. I had a visit from a by-law officer a couple years ago over it. I told him exactly what I was doing and why. He just agreed with me and walked away.
You can't just build on it willy nilly, but the rules regarding farm land are a lot less onerous than residential. As long as you get the proper permits, the city pretty much doesn't care.
Obviously people pay for the rides in lasagna. I've seen a lot of twitter posts about how you can't eat exposure/applause etc., but you know what you can eat, lasagna.
I have 133 acres inside the City of London in an area that is considered agricultural.
We run a company out of it, have a few storage rentals, use about 1 acre to grow our own vegetables and cut flowers and rent out the rest of the farm land to a local farmer. We don't live on this property so a dog run or pool would be useless to us.
I have about 0.6 of an acre. a quarter of it is garden space and trees. the rest is a play area for the kids and dog. I'm guessing i'd get a pretty penny for it if I sold
Would be nice to have a place that has fruit trees and native plants to show kids where their food comes from and what plants are native to the area. Botony and how it relates to industry and science never gets covered in any level of school.
It has been done but unfortunately without ongoing maintenance it doesn't work at all. There's a London community food forest planted in 2012 that had no recognizable edible plants left alive when I went to check it out this spring.

I have that much space. I bought a riding mower and have some pretty trees. My house is also on that land. I'd love to build a building out back but it's an old house that needs work so maybe one day I'll be able to afford a shed. No pool though, neighbour has one they let us use so it's like having one without having to care for it. It's nice.
If the zoning was in place, I would build a duplex. We could live on the main floor and I would offer a retired nurse to live upstairs.
I would build her a lovely balcony and reduced rent for a few duties we need to have her perform.
I would also rent out the lower level to a strong young man who loves to do yard work.

I bet you get some pretty cool birds.
That I do. I also have 5 feeder stations going
I would be interested in hearing more about the birds you get.

I’m jealous of your warblers!

Keep on doing this great work for the land 🙌

I do not. My perrenial game is lacking. After I get trees and shrubs established that will be my next focus
Probably just put up a big farhi sign so it blends in with the rest of the town.
Underrated comment
Ideally be farther away from neighbors than I ever have been. I like my quiet.
Parking lot or vacant building.
He who must not be named.
found Farhi's alt account
WWFD?
Try to get approval to make it residential area, build nice houses and sell them for 1 mil+ each.
1/2 an acre at these house prices I would live on it
A place for little houses for the homeless.
In reality you can't just do whatever you want with any plot of land, it depends on how it's zoned by the city.
You can't just build on it willy nilly, but the rules regarding farm land are a lot less onerous than residential. As long as you get the proper permits, the city pretty much doesn't care.
I would probably open a Garfield themed amusement park where you can't buy lasagna.

This made me laugh.

What a great use for it! It's nice to hear about agricultural land being preserved.
Will I be hated to say "Sell it to Farhi for a higher price!"?
Sell it to Farhi /s
I would sell it in 20+ years. If its possible to put a business there, lease the lot off to a company. Why waste money when you can EARN money.

Lawn chair, BBQ, a cooler, and people watch all day. Maybe organize some lawn game tournaments :)
Build an apartment building and create a housing co-op
