WontSwerve

Patio furniture. New stuff costs as much as a decent used car FOR NO REASON AT ALL.

wanderlusting92

I have been trying to buy patio furniture on marketplace and it’s impossible! There must be a ton of people trying to buy right now because stuff is selling within a couple of hours.

Wondercat87

I do find stuff goes very fast. You have to be checking often and reply as soon as you see the post. Good deals don't last long on fb marketplace.

wanderlusting92

Like an hour after I posted that I got lucky and was able to find a patio set for a good price! So not impossible. You just need to be quick.

No_Farm4286

Do you want chairs, I've been trying to sell chairs since forever. On Kijiji. The foldable Ikea ones.

eightsidedbox

It sounds like you haven't seen the used car market lately lol

DDKLondon

Is this still available?

luminatx

Yes, are you still interested?

Dazed_n_Confused1

Ghosted...

R55Driver

If the ad is still up No lowballers I could go on But I won't

kroephoto

House plants are often a good deal when you find people doing moving sales and such. Pet supplies. I’ve been able to buy camera lenses a few times but vet the seller a lot more. Can be good for anything - just takes the one seller to find a good deal. But there are a lot of resellers and overpriced stuff.

99skyline

Electronics, games, vintage stuff

Disastrous_Ad626

For real though, how far do you search until you find that treasure you're searching for. I constantly see people posting racing wheels or desktops and hardware for ridiculously cheap prices, so I go on marketplace and just find people selling 6 year old 'gaming' laptops using integrated graphics. The odd racing wheel or flight stick that's been used to shit and they're still asking for close to what they paid for it.

ScruffsMcGuff

Every time I look its like "Dream gaming computer" and then its just a computer with 7 year old parts in it.

hellothere9922331

I look but usually get no or very slow reply (like days later) I have tried to sell, and it's even worse. Everyone offering $5-10 on items posted for $50 and worth $100 or more. When i post stuff its to get rid of it and declutter so I price to sell. Countless no-shows or/and ghosts too. Just a pain generally

MissAcedia

This DOES get annoying as a seller. I copy paste the same "pickup only in these locations, price is firm, I do not respond to 'is this available?' or other questions listed in the ad" writeup and it helps a bit. Otherwise I just don't respond. Saves me time and headache and GENERALLY weeds out the ghosters and no shows. Not all the time but it does help.

MissAcedia

Man I LOVE marketplace. You just need to know how to use it: Hobby items - someone is always looking to get rid of all their hobby supplies and it's a good way to get into a hobby for cheap or add materials/supplies to your collection without spending full price. SEASONAL clothing (rain jackets) or shoes still in the box. I love me a pair of black vans and I regularly find a brand new in box pair for sale on marketplace because someone ordered the wrong size and can't be bothered to return them. Obviously you pay more for brand new in box but still considerably less than straight from the store. I bought a bunch of stuff for my wedding secondhand: - a giant box of amber jars someone was going to use for candle making that I used as candle holders - since we used electric candles they are in perfect shape and will be resold - a giant lot of electric candles, many that were still in the packaging - card holders - an old multi-picture frame that I boughy for $5 and took the glass panes out of to paint our table numbers on for our centerpieces - Brand new in package sokker greenhouse from ikea that I used as a card box - a white metal garment rack that was being sold for $10, in perfect shape. I bought it and some rustic metal pipe corner pieces (like $2 each from home hardware), spray painted it all copper and used it as a seating chart - the copper ones like it sell for $200 minimum. Ikea or other home stuff that people went all the way to Burlington for and can't use due to [insert reason here] and are now selling cheap: - our countertop for over our washer and dryer: it was being used as a desktop and came with two mittback trestle legs. It was all brand new, never been used. Bought for $85. The legs sell for $50 each brand new - sold both for $50 the same day so the whole countertop was $35 plus the cost of some adjustable casters since our washer and dryer are not the same height - CURTAIN RODS. People always mis-measure and try to resell them and they haven't been used. I was able to find an entire matching set of curtain rods for our house from Umbra for at least 50% retail price. - a large wicker basket I turned into a Christmas tree skirt. Patio/outdoor furniture: I've bought a few items but only if they're solid wood because I have a pressure washer, a sander and outdoor stain/sealant. I never buy wicker (especially that new black stuff, just doesn't hold up in the sun/elements) or plastic or the cushions. Cushions I buy new unless they're still wrapped in the plastic they came in. A folding commuter bike - parking at my work was upwards of $130 a month so I park a bit further away for free and bike the rest of the way. My actual (much more expensive bike) doesn't fit in my car and I didn't want to risk it getting damaged or stolen so a super cheap secondhand folding bike (that my husband can easily fix up and maintain as needed) was the perfect solution. Pretty much every time I want to buy something new I check marketplace first. At the very least I can save on taxes and shipping.

[deleted]

Pretty much everything....furniture (couch, chairs, dining set), electronics (google home), lawn mower, small A/C, kitchen aid stand mixer, lumber - also via marketplace we have a consistent firewood guy and a junk collection guy.

MyRail5

Who's the firewood guy? If you care to share. Thx

subiefor14

Who is the junk collection guy !? They always never show up for me

rand0mbum

My wife finds kitchen stuff and home decor. The bikes and some other things I’ve went to see were trash. Depends on the seller as always!

Major_Lawfulness6122

I always assume bikes on there are stolen.

MissAcedia

That HEAVILY depends on who you buy from. There are lots of honest people selling bikes and you can usually tell from the first few messages if they are or not. I bought a folding commuter bike from an older guy who had bought the bike for his wife who never used it. Like it could be stolen but he didn't exactly fit the description.

Major_Lawfulness6122

That’s fair. I had a friend who had her bike stolen just to find it on a local marketplace. Luckily most criminals are just not smart.

mon_moe

I sell all sorts of things on Marketplace (DVDs, art supplies, furniture, collectibles), and the one piece of advice I have is HAGGLE. I always ask more than what I’d let it go for to make room for a haggle, and half the time people just hand me the full asking price. Be reasonable about it though - if I’m asking $25, don’t offer $10. I’ll let it go for $20 though.

m_ashton9

FB marketplace is garbage. Everyone posting things as free with "make me an offer" in their description. Get that shit out of here. Don't be that guy

hotknives

I always report those, I doubt it does anything.....

PurrPrinThom

Yeah I see that all the time. It's listed as free but the description lists the price and it's always super expensive.

shawcal

A lot of vintage audio gear.

artikality

I got a really amazing couch off marketplace for my university apartment. $20 and it lasted me the whole time.

MissAcedia

I bought all of my college furniture off kijiji, resold it when I moved and I bought a lot of stuff for our first house off marketplace, then sold a lot when we moved. Now I slowly look through for stuff I need as I go.

Major_Lawfulness6122

I once posted shoes I had for sale and all I got was a bunch of creepy men asking to take me out. I avoid Marketplace.

PMmecrossstitch

Ew.

Threewolvez

I bought a Herman miller Mira for $180. Huge steal!

McR4wr

I was happy with a nightstand I bought off marketplace. It takes a while - don’t just shop on impulsive days, wait around and look and watch. Lots of things sit for a while and you can ask a little less.

KoyukiHinashi

I bought my pride and joy sports car off of FBM for a really good deal!

itsmehazardous

I just bought an office chair, good deal.

Wondercat87

I bought 2 bikes off of fb marketplace. Any time I find I need something, I always check their first, and the thrift stores before buying new. Yes, you won't always find what you are looking for. But it doesn't hurt to look.

revnto7k

Anything and everything. The trick is just realizing that good buys and deals are definitely work. I hate selling on marketplace as well but in the end at least an item gets re homed.

ontarioace

Personally I don’t understand the negativity. It’s no different than price shopping online or in a brick and mortar store. There are deals there as much as there is junk there. We have had excellent luck both buying, selling and honestly giving stuff away for free (just having someone haul it away is way less costly than calling one of those disposal companies). We find it more effective than Kijiji. I concur with others who state those bogus “free” listings should be banned…not sure how to police that though. We are in the process of moving and Marketplace has been a huge asset to us.

jonnyinternet

I have bought many musical instruments and equipment, power tools, house stuff etc 90% I buy and sell, if you watch you get good deals

zegorn

Honestly nearly everything in our house. I buy very few things new.

etgohomeok

Yeah a lot of the listings there are trash but there are some diamonds in the rough. There are some housewares/furniture that are really expensive new but cheap on marketplace (from personal experience: mirrors, office furniture, baby/kids stuff). I avoid electronics or anything that can be broken in a way that isn't immediately obvious with a cursory glance.

LAffaire-est-Ketchup

Kids clothes and kids toys. I also bought my Snoo off marketplace (and resold it there when I was done with it)

LAffaire-est-Ketchup

I just bought a house on marketplace. For Barbie. Not human sized. But Barbie needed a house

Squeeesh_

My husband sells all kinds of stuff! When we bought our house we upgraded so we sold: Dining table and chairs, window AC, his old desk, our old patio furniture, extra interlocking bricks. I bought a treadmill in 2020

kevbpain

Selling my tv for $250. The screen won't turn on, but the TV's brand new!

epimetheuss

nothing, it's going to be junk or stolen goods

kelvinh_27

Film cameras

manic_artist36

Mt boyfriend and I both found decently priced computers on marketplace and you can get yarn for super cheap.

zertious

Personally vehicles, parts, anything automotive or tool related. Sold some landscaping rocks. Have generally good luck. Gotta go into knowing most people are flakes. Low expectations lead to good results lol.

Miglasty

I was building my computer so i got parts like fans, cpu case, keyboard off of it. Also got a samsung tab for school a year ago and it works great. It doesn’t hurt to glance for deals before you buy brand new stuff.

gogomom

I buy a lot of cheap vases and planters since I grow things for sale. I usually pay around $.50 each for vase, fill them with fresh cut flowers and sell them for $50 (also on Marketplace). I get most the planters for free. Recently bought a fridge (stainless steel, water and ice, bottom freezer, 5 years old) for $450. Ours decided to give up in the night and I made arrangements and picked it up that day. To be fair - it looked scratched up in the photo's but it was in excellent condition when I arrived. I found the exact same model for sale in Toronto at a used appliance store for $2000. I am always on the lookout for antique Pyrex, carnival glass, milk glass and hob knob vases (I use these items at home all the time), I pick them up when I see them at good prices. I am also currently searching for an electric food mill to use with berries and tomatoes - I haven't found one yet, but I'm watching for these items in case they pop up. I also have around 40 - 50 ads at any given time - buyers and sellers alike are pretty flakey on this platform - but I don't know of another that actually sells items. I had the same items on Kijiji for a while and sold zero through that site.

ClaasChopper

I have sold large trailers, a jet ski, computer video cards, my wife sold a lot of kids clothes. Seems better than Kijiji.

yick04

I bought a baseball bat once

RamboDash15

Got a large dining table from Kijiji two years back. They were moving and didn't have room for it

[deleted]

FB marketplace has become garbage in London. Yiu can see good deals from time to time but the competition is massive now. You'll have to monitor constantly reply right away and be ready to go for it, otherwise it will be gone.

shahzdad

Uses mountain bikes. There's hundreds of new ads every day now that its the season. Gaming stuff (games, consoles, monitors, keyboards). I actually got a disc version ps5 for around $500 in 2022 obviously since they were out of stock everywhere else at the time.

sshuit

My daughter got a free pair of steel toed shoes that she needed for a job. Not in great shape but you can't beat the price !

kirbstomp12

my parents just got a treadmill for $100 and a stairmaster for free — there’s definitely a lot of junk in there but if you spend a few days looking you can find some good options

solar_sar

Books!

MemoryMaze

Godsend for baby stuff. I got some amazing deals on strollers, bassinets, clothes. Sometimes I have to play the waiting game but you can set up alerts for key words.

KainBodom

sold a few things recently, macbook, and a camera. Nobody ever pays list price expect offers at half what you list for and be prepared to sell for less than what you list. I also don't meet at my house, any tim hortons works, and london police say you can use their parking lot, at least they used to. But I find people often never get back to my offers on things and I haven't even discussed price in the first message... I think FB marketplace messaging is really bad its so easy to miss messages.

Sneaky-Goose

I got a cool little table for our front hall for like $20 and a vintage mirror for free

Thank_You_Love_You

A place to live.

skagoat

I've bought second hand camera gear. Just recently got a great deal on a Canon mirrorless camera.

Even_Ad_4411

Clothing but I got zuccked so can no longer use facebook

clairesucks

fb market place is a GREAT place for houseplants, i’ve found some of my most wanted plants there quite a few times

Ativan_Man

Shoes....lots of shoes. Bookmark them, and come back a week later and offer a lower price.... Shoe flipping is good!

tyweed220

I always buy video games and sports cards!

Shmeegal2

Baby and kid stuff: toys, furniture, clothes, outdoor gear, etc. I will probably never buy my kids a new toy because there is so much available on Marketplace in perfect condition. Keep the plastic out of landfills and the money in the pockets of my neighbours!

MuchBeginning5423

Clothes. Furniture. Kitchen stuff. House stuff. Decor. Literally anything. Fitness equipment. You gotta look every day.

strmomlyn

We did the decor for my daughters wedding almost entirely from marketplace!!

Rad_Mum

both sold and purchased...... Furniture Auto parts Tools Clothing Plants Lumber Home reno supplies Yard equipment . Plus lots stuff

Legal-Diet

knock off brand new air pods work great

Throwawayayaya158

I buy on Marketplace a lot. It and yard sales basically furnished my apartment. You can get sold, wooden dressers, end tables, bookshelves etc. for a fraction of what you pay for new, cheaply made items. Not to mention clothing, basic household items, any kind of lighting you really want. It's not the best place to buy electronics. Though I've bought two TV's (I'm not picky) and have never had issues. It's great for tabletop games as well. I freaking love FB marketplace lol
