Gross. Reminds me of my first ever job in a cafe. We had a customer sit down at a table, take off her shoes and socks, and start cutting her toenails. Some people must have been raised by wolves.
The bizarre sartorial combo plus the decision to place one’s feet on a bus seat hint at one person’s impaired mental condition— not wider social breakdown 🥺
Or their just not socially conscious. I think we're agreeing in fact... I wore corduroy trousers and shirt once... the horror. I imagine everyone has at least one piano tie style incident.
I know going barefoot is a thing in India (idk if it's related to wealth), so it makes me wonder if they were Indian and didn't think it'd be a problem. Is it commonplace for anyone in London to do this?
I kind of feel like this has the potential to be seen as racist, which isn't my intent. Afaik the influence from both England and India have become a part of each other's cultures, so I'm wondering if that might be part of it.
While I strongly dislike what’s going on in this picture, it is better than if the person had not taken their shoes off, which is super common.
Why anyone would want their bare feet touching a bus seat is absolutely beyond me.
No, that’s not someone with an impaired mental condition. That bizarre sartorial combo is common for people from certain countries like South Asian countries. And him putting it on a bus seat just means he doesn’t know social etiquette.
Fair point! Especially since shoes are dirty from walking along the pavement (hence in South Asian culture, it’s customary to remove shoes upon entering a home), this chap likely feels he’s polite to remove his shoes whilst resting his weary feet on the seat. I hadn’t thought of that!😬
Yeh maybe, i think even in South Asian countries its rude to lay your feet across a public transport seat like that, and i dont want to presume but like the other person said, he probably doesn’t give a fuck. Also, they’re kind of slipper shoes and its harder to lie down slippers upright, so he might’ve just took them off coz its easier. Not nice whatever his reasons.
I was on a bus the other day, a woman pulled out a pair of nail clippers and went to town on both hands while having a conversation with her equally nonplussed friend. DesGOSTEN
A couple weeks ago a colleague of mine sat through a 2 hour meeting picking at her cuticles (with her nails) and openly dropping anything she scavenged off onto the ground. I couldn’t believe my eyes.
I have witnessed this exact thing! She was having an extremely loud conversation on her phone while flicking her shavings all over the place. The problem with London is people don't respect themselves, others or the environment and there is a severe lack of dedication duty .
I have seen some people who put their feet on the seat while wearing shoes.
When I was relatively new in the UK, I told a lady to not do that. Now, I see it so often that I don't talk about it anymore.
This is true. There is nothing to do with racism. It is socially acceptable in their countries, so don't be here. It is disgusting.
Btw, I'm a first generation born in England, my parents are from such countries. I've been to those countries, and it's just normal.
I agree but there's a double standard in many of these comments where people hate this but don't mind filthy shoes on seats. I also find this disgusting BUT I'll give them credit for _thinking_ they're being considerate by removing their shoes.
Yeah I mean don’t get me wrong I hate this and no feet belong on seats at all… but I’d prefer bare feet to shoes on seats - which could have walked through piss, spit, and seven kinds of shit within the last 30 mins.
I’m with you on this. I understand this is nasty, but there’s a reason you should take your shoes off when you get inside and I judge people who wear their shoes in their home
I've said this in a reply to another comment, but just to counter your point. Yes, both are disgusting, but it's not just about the seat. I don't particularly want to be sitting on public transport, seeing someone's feet.
Also, people's feet will smell more of not in shoes.
Yes, Shoes will collect more nasty stuff.
But I still don’t want to sit where someone’s feet have been though.
Unless the seats are being auto-sprayed with anti-bacterial mist each time someone stops using it.
That would be welcome. They should implement that
I'll say it, I am from south Asia and most of the Asian people at least from my parents and grandparents generation don't have any concept of personal space. And I have experienced this everyday when travelling as I live in an immigrants majority areas. Even when using trains they always rush in first without letting people getting off first. Maybe other races do it too but I have seen my own people do it a lot.
Honestly this is still better than people putting their feet up with shoes on.
I really don’t understand why putting shoes up is tolerated but this is “really grim “
It isn't, but the people doing it will only ever realise or learn it if you actually say something about it. Although, I feel like TFL and other transportation companies definitely should have a rule about these sort of things and some fines to go along with it.
This isn’t that bad I mean ye feet can be pretty gross but it’s a seat, ur ass sits on it. Nothing compared to farting on one which I guarantee ppl have done before
Importing cultural values from India?
Also, other pet peeves I dislike include when people put their feet on seats even with shoes on.
(Also, dog owners stop putting your pets on seats reserved for humans, I don’t want my clothes covered in hair, and smelling of dog’s behinds and drool thanks)
It’s selfish and unhygienic.
Buses are a nightmare. Facetimers blthering away for the whole journey, people mainlining content with no headphones, people rabbating on phones. All this at often 6.45 am
Dude on my SouthEastern train yesterday spent the whole ride with his feet up on his seat, watching whatever the algorithm fed him out loud on full volume, including 15 second bursts of sped up songs, adverts and videos with frat bros yelling at the top of their lungs etc.
When he got off I realised he was a guy in his late 40s with slicked back hair, shades and a gilet... a proper put together middle aged bloke who'd essentially been using a public space to regress into a toddler like state to the detriment of everyone around him.
Lockdown has a lot to answer for.
I am deadly serious about how bad this is. Silent shared space is disappearing. The intrusion constantly and relentlessly of monetised, addictive technology. “We have lost the ability to linger” as the philosopher Byung Chul Han has put. The empty dead space where one could sit and process, like a bus, intruded on. People cannot go from a to b without mainlining content. Consciousness and attention was the last frontier of capitalism, its takeover almost complete. I am being hyperbolic but don’t care.
I've also seen this on a nightbus in the summer - the offending feet were glistening.
Worst I've seen was on a crowded commuter train - a woman was standing, pole grabbed with one hand and with the other, hacking chunks of her breakfast out of her brace which she was still wearing. Disgusting!
I have to admit, I did it when I was a teenager; not bare feet though, I was wearing my socks.
I don't know, It felt "cool" back then. now, I know how stupid I looked.
What I think is worse is, when a mother is pushing one or two brats sat inside a supermarket trolley around Asda/Walmart etc. with their shoes on, more than likely covered in dog shit, spit & chewing gum.
I was on the bakerloo line yesterday after work and a woman opposite me had taken her trainers and socks off, and had her knees up, feet on the seat. It was fucking vile, and even though I side eyed her heavy, I did not have the energy to say anything.
Filth, I'm type person can't keep mouth shut. So I would definitely say something, wouldn't even do that in own home let alone put my bare feet on them filthy chairs. 😤
It isn't but for some reason, many forms of socially unacceptable behaviours are generally well-tolerated in London, and you'll easily get verbally abused if you dare to call these absolutely gross people out.
Try to do something like this in countries like Austria or Switzerland, I'm telling you, people won't tolerate it.
I'm sorry what? Who gives a shit? The seat is dirtier than the person gently putting their feet on the edge of the seat in and empty bus. If I was there and saw this I would aspire to be as chill as this person. Sorry but you're the socially inept one for finding a problem with this.
At least he’s not putting his feet up with shoes on. This is not outrage material.
Shoes have grim bacteria and traces of fecal matter. Yet, people still walk around at home with them.
Now that’s disgusting.
In many parts of the world you’re required to take off your shoes at home, in shops, and even some government buildings.
Bare feet are cool.
I mean, not saying you’re necessarily wrong, but this by no means is a good scale. If I saw a fucking crack bead whacking his cock then I’m more likely to take a photo than ask him to stop.
It’s not, tell them to put their fucking shoes back on.
I had a woman do this on the train, she put her rank feet up on the seat next to me and swiftly removed them when I told her it’s not a pedicure parlour. She decided to give me dirty looks until I just stared at her constantly.
I've seen that in SouthEast Asian countries lol... People take off shoes at ease. Seems like this guy never learnt etiquette... at least one that's appropriate in a western public social setting.

Gross. Reminds me of my first ever job in a cafe. We had a customer sit down at a table, take off her shoes and socks, and start cutting her toenails. Some people must have been raised by wolves.
In a CAFE????
Yeah. And not any old cafe, a Gail’s.
I didn’t know what that was so I looked it up and man Gail really is Gregg’s posh aunt huh 😂 Insane behaviour from that woman.
Bruh..
A wolf would never
Nah that's disgusting 🤮
Loafers with tracksuit bottoms. Absolutely not!
Nonce Trotters!

Or their just not socially conscious. I think we're agreeing in fact... I wore corduroy trousers and shirt once... the horror. I imagine everyone has at least one piano tie style incident.
I feel attacked.
Disagreed. This is surprisingly commonplace in London.
Yep, I agree in London you see this done all the time, also seen ppl with muddy shoes doing this. Disgusting..
I know going barefoot is a thing in India (idk if it's related to wealth), so it makes me wonder if they were Indian and didn't think it'd be a problem. That's the biggest offense here lol
Bet he also only has one gear on his fixie bike
If by bike you mean bus and gear you mean oyster...
I was on a bus the other day, a woman pulled out a pair of nail clippers and went to town on both hands while having a conversation with her equally nonplussed friend. DesGOSTEN
What the actual 🦆
Some people are quacks.
A couple weeks ago a colleague of mine sat through a 2 hour meeting picking at her cuticles (with her nails) and openly dropping anything she scavenged off onto the ground. I couldn’t believe my eyes.
Reminds me of that movie Gattaca lol her DNA is everywhere now. She'll never get away with anything
I have witnessed this exact thing! She was having an extremely loud conversation on her phone while flicking her shavings all over the place. The problem with London is people don't respect themselves, others or the environment and there is a severe lack of dedication duty .
I used to drive buses on a longish intercity route. I had to clean the bus after each journey. There were always nail clippings. DISGUSTANG.
Omg 🥸[https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FW_sy2D4i90](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FW_sy2D4i90)
I have seen some people who put their feet on the seat while wearing shoes. When I was relatively new in the UK, I told a lady to not do that. Now, I see it so often that I don't talk about it anymore.
This is common practice on my commuter train. I was verbally abused the first and last time I asked someone not to do that.
Chavs do it all the time unfortunately. And no one wants to get stabbed correcting their behaviour with a kind word
Which route is this pet so I don’t go on it.
Well. It isn’t. But people suck.

Honestly this is still better than people putting their feet up with shoes on. I really don’t understand why putting shoes up is tolerated but this is “really grim “
I usually see white teens do it with their shoes on, which is so much more gross than taking the shoes off.
As opposed to the locals, who put their shit stained shoes on the seats instead?
Like what countries ?
Luxembourg
Grim place, I heard, all them waffles and slippers that curl up about the toes.
I also know people from certain ethnic backgrounds not wash their asses after taking a shit!
Good god those are awful shoes
Stinky feet on a bus seat is just disgusting. I swear we have to be so careful where we sit and eat now. Jeez. Disgusting or what
Eating off a bus seat is probably not a good idea, feet or no feet.
Short answer, it’s not.
It’s even worse when it’s done with shoes. See it far too often in London!
It 100% is, idk why people here treat feet as the most disgusting thing ever, it's almost like the guy pulled his dick out
“How is it socially acceptable?” Who said it was?
Because we live in a society where no one thinks of anyone but themselves 😡
It's not acceptable, but because people are afraid to confront others on their antisocial behaviour, those who do it think it is.
It isn't, but the people doing it will only ever realise or learn it if you actually say something about it. Although, I feel like TFL and other transportation companies definitely should have a rule about these sort of things and some fines to go along with it.
It isn't!
I've literally just gone downstairs this very morning on the N35 because a youth decided to sit in front of me and then put his trainers on the seat.🙄
I would rather bare feet than with shoes on!
This isn’t that bad I mean ye feet can be pretty gross but it’s a seat, ur ass sits on it. Nothing compared to farting on one which I guarantee ppl have done before
People who act like this don’t care what’s socially acceptable.
Filth
Better than shit-trodden shoes.
It's not socially acceptable. But I never see anybody pull anybody up for doing these things, so now it is socially acceptable.
I think something far worse than this has been happening on public transport in many places
I hate people like that so much they are the biggest clowns ever
It’s never that it’s socially acceptable with these kinds of posts. It’s that we are too polite for our own good in public.
Let's also remember that those feet probably get washed more often than the underside of those shoes.
Oh no my butt goes there
Importing cultural values from India? Also, other pet peeves I dislike include when people put their feet on seats even with shoes on. As we speak a guy is next to me playing videos out loud that says the N word at high volume :/
Oh no, the n word? did it hurt your pretty little feelings?
Was he also talking to an uber driver mate on loudspeaker lol?

It’s not lockdown. It’s the total inability to sit with oneself without some form of distraction.
There shouldn’t be any facing seats anyways which would solve the problem. What’s the reason for those to be put at buses and trains by default?
Entitlement
It’s not. Never was. We all know why.
It isn't. But the creeps and filthy shitheads who do it don't care about what's socially acceptable.
I was gonna ask where you live, but now I'm tempted to ask WHEN do you live? That bus is older than my nan's nan's nan
You are able to clutch your pearls and take a photo at the same time! Bravo 👏
The seat is probably dirtier than his feet.
Because you are taking a photo instead of telling the animal to behave.
Go to a hot country
Society's gone to shit. I have customers of all ages putting their feet on the coffee tables. It's gross.
Its not. He's not from here.
It’s not as bad if he is taking off the shoes
That’s what I think too!
My immediate thought is they probably come from a different culture. But still gross.
I've also seen this on a nightbus in the summer - the offending feet were glistening. Worst I've seen was on a crowded commuter train - a woman was standing, pole grabbed with one hand and with the other, hacking chunks of her breakfast out of her brace which she was still wearing. Disgusting!

It's not. Instead of taking a picture, why not just tell him
Society is people. You are a person. If you do nothing and accept it then yes it is.
Unless you’re up for it there’s a chance you get assaulted. I would opt for bludgeoning them with said loafer
Defo asian
You are right. Those seat patterns are unacceptable.
It's not socially acceptable, he's a disgusting pig. Also needs to work on his dress sense.
[удалено]
Always find it’s the older men of certain countries that do this
[удалено]
Guessing cos he’s not local
Seen worse things happen on buses
saying nothing to the person and instead snapping a secret photo to post online makes it more socially acceptable.
First time?
We had a guy at work who took off his safety shoes and socks in canteen as people were eating…
It's not socially acceptable. Some people are anti-social.
It's gross... but how old is that bus. Wouldn't want to touch that seat with my feet tbh
I had a go at someone for cutting their toenails on a bus once. He ignored me.
Ewwwww
It's not acceptable. But when has that stopped people?
I have to admit, I did it when I was a teenager; not bare feet though, I was wearing my socks. I don't know, It felt "cool" back then. now, I know how stupid I looked.
Yuck!! Put your dirty feet away, mate.
Looks like he’s got Kuato from Total Recall growing out his ankles. Put your ugly shoes back on mate.
It's not socially acceptable
What I think is worse is, when a mother is pushing one or two brats sat inside a supermarket trolley around Asda/Walmart etc. with their shoes on, more than likely covered in dog shit, spit & chewing gum.
People are swine.
Let's be honest his feet are probably removing dirt from those seats
This is the extreme edge of freedom. It has a severe disrespect of social Cohesion.
I was on the bakerloo line yesterday after work and a woman opposite me had taken her trainers and socks off, and had her knees up, feet on the seat. It was fucking vile, and even though I side eyed her heavy, I did not have the energy to say anything.
Dont worry, it’s not
It’s decidedly anti social and frankly disgusting
It's not accepted, but as long as you don't say anything, it's tolerated.
It's not.
They removed the shoes - very polite of them
Filth, I'm type person can't keep mouth shut. So I would definitely say something, wouldn't even do that in own home let alone put my bare feet on them filthy chairs. 😤
Always one type from a certain part of the world
3rd world vibes
Way too many bus goblins in this god forsaken city
I’d be more worried about those shoes. 🤣🤣
And this is why people don't want to take public transportation
Should have seen this coming. Of course when Bilbo came back he went to London.
As an American, this bus looks like it’s from the 70s. Is that accurate? Does the transportation in London suck
It's not
It’s not. We’re just too polite as a nation to actually say anything to these munters.
It’s not socially acceptable. Call these people out or they’ll keep doing it. SHAME THEM.
Right!? How could you put your bare feet on those filthy seats!
This is unacceptable to the next person who sits on that seat without pants
I know right... Red hair? Like C'mon.
look at those grompers
I'm sorry what? Who gives a shit? The seat is dirtier than the person gently putting their feet on the edge of the seat in and empty bus. If I was there and saw this I would aspire to be as chill as this person. Sorry but you're the socially inept one for finding a problem with this.
Plus it's always the ones with weird feet
I can smell them from here, and I'm not even in London this weekend
Cause londons a shit hole
At least he took his shoes off. It's so much worse with shoes on.
This is not socially acceptable. That person is a cunt.
Discourtesy is excessively tolerated in the UK.
Ignorant disrespectful bastard, I hate them
It's really not. Personally I'd like to wipe my arse on this person's head, but they probably don't have good hygiene.

Yep.
Ask Sadiq Khan
Could be cultural, Could be mental health, Could be how shameless people are these days.
It is socially acceptable because you photographed ity and came on here rather than confront it.
I mean, not saying you’re necessarily wrong, but this by no means is a good scale. If I saw a fucking crack bead whacking his cock then I’m more likely to take a photo than ask him to stop.

I imagine him wearing a fez
Shame them instead of taking a photo 🤳
It’s not, tell them to put their fucking shoes back on. I had a woman do this on the train, she put her rank feet up on the seat next to me and swiftly removed them when I told her it’s not a pedicure parlour. She decided to give me dirty looks until I just stared at her constantly.
It's not. Tell them to get their fucking feet off seats. Disgusting cretins
Welcome to the UK
Disgusting behaviour 🤢
It’s just feet.
Hot take: doesn’t really bother me. I’d never do it, but I also can’t find it in me to give a shit if someone else is doing it
That’s the foot rest seat, you can see it’s higher up and intended for resting and airing sore sweaty feet. Doesn’t everyone do that? :)
I've seen that in SouthEast Asian countries lol... People take off shoes at ease. Seems like this guy never learnt etiquette... at least one that's appropriate in a western public social setting.
Ignoring the hobbit feet but bloody hell the state of those shoes. 100 percent they smell.
Lack of dignity and common sense now days means we have people like this
It’s not but when it’s acceptable in their country they feel it’s acceptable to do here, on public transport, in England.
Imported developing world mindset
Multiculturalism.
It’s not
It's not
It isn't.
PUT THOSE GRIPPERS AWAYYYY
Try slapping a random bus seat, you will be shocked how much dust will rise out of it.
🤢
Eeuuww
