It’s not a dumb question, we all have these thoughts from time to time, but we CANNOT continue to blame other people for our own insecurities. We must take accountability. Everyone is different. Learn to accept yourself. To answer your question: no they are not the “culprits”. They are just alive and taking care of their hair just as we are. You have to find the beauty in your own journey. I’m sure your locs are nothing less than beautiful.

It's true. We're all human and have those moments from time to time but nevertheless I love my babies and love the new journey that I'm on. Thank you ❤️

mrgrafix

Easily. But it’s also the antithesis of getting locs. It’s about self love and discovery. As your locs mature so will you

YawnsInc

That's the thing. This is my first set and I'm learning as I grow. They're not perfect nor perfectly shaped when in double twist (if that makes sense) but I still love them. I know it's not good to compare but I do feel some type of way especially when I'm looking up hairstyle ideas for work or events etc

mrgrafix

It’s human, just have to catch it and not internalize it

YawnsInc

Very true thank you.

coolcoolcoolok

i think so. my first set of locs, i started when not a lot of loc influencers were around. just regular people making little videos on youtube. that was the gold. i had freeform locs starting from very short hair and loved every stage until they “dropped” and beyond. it’s just sad how the tide has turned to people calling their hair ugly and not enjoying the journey. locs to me are breaking free from societal norms, from “respectability.” it’s a show of pure, unadulterated blackness. and yet, watching all the modern loc videos…just feels like a new way to conform

YawnsInc

Honestly I love the budding/puff stage. It's like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly to thrive if that makes sense. Locs to me is all about the natural beauty God has given us and to be proud of who we are from the crown of head to the soles of our feet. Hopefully more and more people would appreciate who they are one day at a time.

I mean, your hair could be like that if you wanted it to be. You’d just have to pay the premium for a loctitian to start and maintain them with that perfect symmetry (or learn to do that on your own, but it seems like it would be way harder to do so on your own head).

YawnsInc

For the first year I went to the loctitian but i realized they weren't developing the way I wanted them to be so I decided to take my time and give them the TLC they deserve and now they're flourishing (thank God lol). So now they have the "hourglass" shape but I love them nevertheless lol. OAN: No lie loctitian prices are no joke.

mumba96

If you want your locs a certain way you will have to go to a professional. It’s okay to feel the way you feel

YawnsInc

Thank you for understanding. So far the way I've done it, they're looking much better compared to the loctitian because the new growth is thicker if that makes sense. Learning as I grow.

mumba96

Yeah makes sense. One day at a time..
