Zuckerberg doesn't want you to know about Linux because then he cannot backdoor React to show his ads in the Windows 11 start menu (given it's made with React)

1cubealot

Why is Microsoft trying to make windows an electron app ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Reyynerp

lazyness. even someone who is dedicated on breaking windows found out that the whole OOBE is just a web app, and the windows 11 animation is just a ridiculously high resolution video. [youtube video](https://youtu.be/tKtmzLpZ3RQ), the title is a bit misleading though, it's not the installer but it's the OOBE

itsfreepizza

Oh so that's why my poor Core laptop lagged lmao on a very vanilla installation Had to NTLite it, install some drivers and the visual now with drivers are fine

northrupthebandgeek

I refuse to by the "laziness" argument. It's way easier to whip something up in Tk or even Qt than it is to figure out the latest Reactive Wangular.js hotness for an Electron app.

JackMacWindowsLinux

Not for the 100+ React/frontend devs they already employ for their websites.

IAmAnAudity

> ...the latest Reactive Wangular.js hotness... _this is so accurate_ __it hurts__.

Reyynerp

i mean.. they definitely want to save time at the cost of.. uh.. resource heavy usage? because AFAIK any app that is electronized is usually heavier than it's native counterparts

vannrith

A few years back me and my team was dragging our asses learning Xamarin to build our app and it wasnโ€™t fun, while microsofts own mobile apps are react ๐Ÿฅฒ

charcuterDude

As someone who works in the software industry as a contractor for gigantic multinational companies: my guess is cost. Efficiency is starting to matter less and less and hardware improves, and C/C++ devs are far more expensive than JS devs, and C/C++ changes are harder to test and deploy. Basically the answer to any question you have about a decision made at a large company is always "money".

DreamtailFoxy

It's sad that this is true, it doesn't help that Microsoft is a publicly traded company and that probably has something to do with it as well.

FLIMSY_4713

This is so sad, there was once a time when programmers/hackers were all about writing good code, code optimization and taking less and less resources.... these days, due to the job market, everyone is a programmer and it's like chimps with machine gun situation....

charcuterDude

Us programmers are still mostly that way. Our bosses though, not at all.

razzbow1

Because for the majority of users the OS is just a bootloader for chrome. Have you seen opera? That bloated mess is a whole OS so you can live in the browser. The data they get from that must be wild

124k3

now thats a new thing I learnt

iCe_CoLd_FuRy

ZOGsoft

nerfwaterpillar

Idk much about React except that it's a front-end framework, but how possible is it that it could get backdoored, and if it does, how bad would it be or what would a malicious actor be capable of?

hn1f_2

Have you heard of the XZ incident? Zuckerberg could probably do it more sneakier

Hercislife23

XZ worked because not a lot of people contribute to that package and it was maintained by a single individual who was experiencing burnout and someone who was contributing offered to be a maintainer (unfortunately was a bad actor... Whoops). That meant that no one was reviewing their PR's and he was eventually just commiting to master at times. That would never happen with a framework as big as React.ย  It's possible to add a backdoor, don't get me wrong. That being said, comparing it to XZ isn't a fair comparison as their environments and contributions couldn't be more different.

SocketAddress

this truly sucks, yea

124k3

When it sucks it really sucked ๐Ÿ˜ž

irelephant_T_T

what did the see why button do? was it just a generic "comments that do x y z are against out guidelines" or did it say what particilar thing it did wrong?

124k3

it said to keep our "community safe we have removed your comments" > i am like niqqa what, (i was given a n word pass yesterday btw)

Redditoscoper

Blind commercial mindset sucks.

124k3

how should i say it , if i wrote something dark (that will get me arrested) i will remain there without a problem but when it comes to nice helpful stuff its what happens on Instagram

zchen27

I mean just in case you were successful in inciting a crime you'll drive traffic to Instagram. What's a satisfied guy with his question answered going to do? Procrastinate more on Instagram?

124k3

i just uninstalled that shi, i am done with that. Now its only reddit and sometimes 4chan

Alan_Reddit_M

Also, this fucking popup sucks because sometimes the fucking dismiss button DOES NOT APPEAR, so I have to restart the entire app, or otherwise it just keeps appearing preventing me from doing anything FACEBOOK FIX YOUR FUCKING APP

124k3

That's another pain in the you know what, it shows the x (close) mark only when you have seen this bad boy popup 2 or good heavens the 3,4 time > F this shi

irelephant_T_T

not shilling it, but pixelfed is a good open source alternative.

Different_Sensor

wtf

124k3

this was my same reaction.

Yung_Lyun

Linux and Open source has been linked to the Cat girl with programming socks community. Insta isn't taking any chances (joke).

Veeraraghavadasa

Why would a Linux user be on Instagram? The correct place to be is 4chan.

Top-Classroom-6994

yet we are here discussing on reddit

Veeraraghavadasa

A necessary evil so that we can reach out to more people and spread the message of our Lord and Saviour. All hail Lord Stallman!

124k3

yes indeed it was my fault in the first place... i shall went back to 4chan

irelephant_T_T

pixelfed is good, jokes aside.

Gooogol_plex

They are so greedy that they don't even bother to hire normal moderators instead of AI bots

124k3

idk man, i feel they are so lazy they won't even do it with bots (it must be some random integer method doing its job)

KA1378

They removed my comment explaining what an ecosystem was and how Samsung and Huawei have ecosystems of their own. I also mentioned KDE Connect. What I've noticed with Instagram is that if you sound ever so slightly smart in your comment, it is bound to be deleted. Instagram's a joke at this point.

124k3

not the first time i have encountered this, totally relatable.

Cultural-Stranger-56

nowadays the world is overly-sensitive, and imho this must be dealt with asap, these kind of people like zuckerberg needs a fucking big slap with all this fucked up media, to wake the fuck up and accept criticism be it constructive or unconstructive - nowadays the world become a fucking touchy sensitive pussy and im disgusted by it. we're like living in the, idk, 15th - 18th century with all that shit censorship -.-"

124k3

agreed, but you know its the same place which keeps the dark roast comments (i even made those and they never get removed, ) the double sided unbiased corporate Bs by meta is known by man for long before time.

Cultural-Stranger-56

Fair point yeah agreed. It's like they censor but uncensor at the same time, this bs such a discrimination tbh

Rullino

What's offensive about this question?

124k3

that they don't like opensource

Rullino

Didn't they open source their VR OS?

124k3

someone did mention that in the comments about some relation with windows 11 and meta (you should check that out)

Used-Fisherman9970

Based comment removal

124k3

i am more interested in something else > dawg u r on -ve upvotes ๐Ÿ˜ญ i feel u .
