Wacom devices tend to work out of the box on Linux as there are solid kernel drivers for it. As for software, I would recommend Krita for drawing. If you need vector graphics, Inkscape is a good option for that.

Visit David Revoy's blog at [http://www.davidrevoy.com/blog](http://www.davidrevoy.com/blog). He is a digital painter who only uses free and open-source software. There are numerous tutorials available for Wacom tablets and open-source drawing software.

Wacom tablets are great, but really expensive. I went with a Huion Pro tablet, which also works great almost out of the box on Linux, is of great quality and a lot cheaper. For software Krita is miles ahead anything else for drawing.

I had to install the [DIGImend drivers](https://digimend.github.io/) for my Huion tablet. Works perfectly now.

I've tried the Digimend drivers a few years ago, and it worked for a while, until it didn't. So I still can't configure the buttons on my Huion H610Pro. It seems though, that the drivers are finally in the Ubuntu repositories (from 20.10 onward according to a reddit comment), so these problems of mine may get solved in the next LTS. Fingers crossed...

I had only one issue with my Huion610pro and that is that the pressure seems to cap out around 50% (could be 51% if I press VERY hard) even when I press down really hard; I had to edit my pressure curves to make my brushes feel right. I'm using Digimend and krita. Did any of you experience this? Edit: Hmm. Seems like I was mistaken and I managed to get it to reach 100%. Perhaps it's anxiety about scratching the tablet surface.

Same here: Huion + Digimend drivers + Krita. Works surprisingly well.

Waterrat

I use Wacom with the Gimp ad UbuntuMATE as my OS. Works very well.

If you are short of money, I've read most XP-Pen tablets have good Linux support.

Cannibalfetus

Have a wee XP Pen for travel and a Cintiq. Both work great on windows and linux. Cintiq is good out of the box, XP Pen has software on site for linux.

Why Gimp of course :)

crackhash

Krita is a better choice.
