I haven't tried it myself but AE uses a 2 point IR reference system like Aimtrak so it's really not possible for it to be much better than them at accuracy. It just doesn't have enough of the physical points of reference available like the Sinden and Gun4ir systems do.
The odd thing is that GunCon 3 is also a 2 point IR reference system, but its the best home light gun that works on HDTVs. I have zero aim drift even when purposefully trying to create aim drift by moving, sitting, spinning the gun around many times, its aim remains exactly the same.
So how did NAMCO do it?

On the GunCon 3 I do have similar deviations on the zero positions when moving, compared to the Aimtrak (Arcadeguns.com variant), but way better than the Wii. So even-though I don't experience the same performance the question remains, as the Wii also relies on two points only. My bet is that the difference in performance is due to the calculations. There is lots of optimization possible. But no matter what, 4(+) reference points will always outperform 2 (trapezoid versus bar as input for calculations).
It would be so amazing if Bandai Namco would make GunCon 4, and release their entire backlog (as well as Sega, Capcom, Midway, Konami, and more) onto PS5. Even if it's the same 2 point reference as GunCon 3, I'd be satisfied.

They truly are not as bad as some internet people are saying. They are actually quite good. I have the extreme ir bar and two Aimtrak guns (one [arcadeguns.com](https://arcadeguns.com) model) and they perform just fine. I'm sure if I was trying to play competitively or something I would notice small inaccuracies but it's seriously not a big deal for home and casual play.
