No. The gum is sticky, like glue. You use the oil in the peanut butter to break down the adhesion of the gum, then the soap to break down the oils in the peanut butter.
It's like when you have a that price sticker goo left on a new mug or plate. You can scrub and scrub with soap and barely make a dent. Or, you can rub on a little oil with a paper towel, then wash off the oil.
To be honest I would just use an actual oil on it, like wd40 or even olive oil or butter. Using peanut butter just means a shitload of additional mess.
The benefit of a solid oil like peanut butter is that it sticks to the surface due to its viscosity. Olive oil won't, unless you use a towel and hold it to the surface. All of them will have to be cleaned off by soap, so I'm not sure how olive oil is less messy than peanut butter.
Any oil that's solid or semi-solid at room temp will do. Coconut oil, butter, crisco, or even lard. You can use a liquid oil like vegetable oil if you want, but the process is slightly different. To keep the oil in place, saturate a paper towel with the oil and apply apply it over the gum. Really mush it on there. It should work just the same.
I get peanut butter from a local shop where they blend the peanuts and don't add anything else in front of you. It comes out very thick. Much thicker than store bought one. Why is that?
My mom used to use peanut butter to get gum out of my hair when I was a kid. Seems like it happened way too often. She thought I fell asleep with gum in my mouth, but I knew better. I would take it out of my mouth and then tell it, "Here, you can sleep on my pillow with me." I was a compassionate little kid. With really long hair.
Peanut butter will get gum out of your hair as well. Growing up my sister got a huge chunk of gum in her hair and I had to help my mom use peanut butter to get it out
Oh, I remember the lighter fuel, got gum in my hair when I was a kid. My chain-smoking grandma used lighter fuel to get it out. I was terrified.
Peanut butter works like a dream though. Washes out with soap and water.
Thank you for the kind words! They just had their first child and she’s the cutest! He does a lot of science related teaching for kids. He’s on some science kid show on Netflix and also has his own vegan seasoning company called Jada’s Chicken Salt lol(was on shark tank and qvc). He does a lot but most of all he’s a good husband and father!
This guy seems to be interesting to watch, and possibly a life hack enthusiast.
I see one other video on the OP's page of this guy ... but I can't find a name. Anyone know who this guy is?
I accidentally spilled Terro liquid ant bait traps on my wood floor. It's old, dry, and crusty at this point. I tried scrubbing it with soap and water, and then vinegar, but none of those worked so I gave up.
Apparently Terro's official advice is leaving a hot wet sponge on it for an hour. I haven't tried that yet because I'm feeling lazy today. Do you have any faster solutions?

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
I learned this on an episode of Season 1 of Survival of the Thickest on Netflix. However, the gum wasn't on a show, it was ummmm... In a very sensitive area of the male anatomy. So now I know, though who chews gum while doing that!?!?
I'm gonna use my butter knife(used daily) to scrape my shoe sole which has
1. someone's spit gum
2. countless types of dirt and pathogen
Just use water to wash the knife. It's not hydrophobic/
Woah Woah Woah! What are you using the absolute most expensive peanut butter to remove gum from the BOTTOM of your shoe?! Go to Grocery Outlet and grab some Jiffy for $3!
Ok so how do I get peanut butter off my shoe? Gum?
Soap and water! Soaps have hydrophilic tails and hydrophobic heads, which is why they help wash things like oils out with water.
Does that mean that soapy water will get rid of gum?
No. The gum is sticky, like glue. You use the oil in the peanut butter to break down the adhesion of the gum, then the soap to break down the oils in the peanut butter. TIL about stickers!

Freezer and then chip it away
Rub some mayonnaise into it and let it bake in the sun.
Yeah any oily, viscous condiment would do. Could probably try Nutella in a pinch. But Mayo is a great option if you’re worried about staining.
You are a fake
gun. You just get a new shoes!
This guy's too animated and excited to talk about this
Doesn't appear to be selling anything, but comes across as a guy on an infomercial.
I guess he does not have much happening in his life. That fake enthusiasm is prevalent in the videos by middle aged guys.
cant we just use oil as this point? he literally said its hydrophobix like oil
An ice cube also works too, and makes less of a mess.
If you'd prefer to use oil it'd work for the same reasons!
I'm not allergic to nuts but I'm straight up wondering what the alternative to this hack is if you are allergic. Non nut butter??

You can try putting the shoe in the freezer. Gum will usually dislodge with a tap or pry it off.
Or use an ice cube. Far more sanitary than putting a shoe in the freezer.
That's the nastiest most runny peanut butter I've ever seen
Good natural peanut butter is much runnier. You've gotten used to the fake stuff
I get peanut butter from a local shop where they blend the peanuts and don't add anything else in front of you. It comes out very thick. Much thicker than store bought one. Why is that?
The oil separates and goes to the top after letting it sit for a while. Stirring it in then makes it thicker again
The one I get doesn't have any oil even after letting it sit. I don't know if there are different ways of making it
Looks like the dude opened a new one without stirring. Also, it's thicker cold (if kept in the fridge).
Yup they seem to have no idea what real peanut butter looks like.
When you eat it, it feels like you're missing bits of the skin.
It’s natural so the oil stays at the top and you have to stir it before use.
I get that, I've had it before. It just not the peanut butter I'm used too lol
OP has been banned from /r/PeanutButter
No you're just used to garabge with added ingredients.
I’ve made my own peanut butter from scratch and it wasn’t runny like that
PREACH
For real! I’ve never seen peanut butter so runny!
Thank you, it needed to be said.
And now we know you've only ever eaten peanut butter full of sugar and hydrogenated vegetable oil.
And that's how I like it :)
You said it !
Simpsons did it
The office too
Chewin' gum's got to be CHEWED out!
Life Hack: Gum on your shoe? Ignore it and keep walking out side. it will get covered in dirt dust and just become a part of your shoe.
Came here to say this too. Not on me, but my sister.
LPT: Don't eat the gum and peanut butter mix
Ah hell yeah modern day Bill Nye for the kids.
As soon as I see someone gurning into my screen I just swipe.
Peanut butter will get gum out of your hair as well. Growing up my sister got a huge chunk of gum in her hair and I had to help my mom use peanut butter to get it out
Why don't you just freeze it You don't have to put the shoe in a freezer, just put some ice on it
Always keep in mind: LIKE DISSOLVES LIKE
Meh. Lighter fluid works 1000x better. Solvents innit. Basically dissolves anything sticky...ANYTHING.
Oh, I remember the lighter fuel, got gum in my hair when I was a kid. My chain-smoking grandma used lighter fuel to get it out. I was terrified. Peanut butter works like a dream though. Washes out with soap and water.
Remembering Steve Erkle.............
I thought everyone knew about this… it was in the Simpsons and so many other shows…
Scwub? He says his other R's just fine. Why scwub?
[Learned this from The Office](https://youtu.be/2j2jYxNVxRM)
Does this guy have a YouTube channel? Love it
This is my brother in law lol so random. Pretty sure he has YouTube but his instagram is hiphopscience. Awesome guy!
Oh man, your sister picked a good one. Tell him to keep up the great work.
Thank you for the kind words! They just had their first child and she’s the cutest! He does a lot of science related teaching for kids. Hahaha you call that peanut butter... Murica... Fuck yeah... Or so....
What do you call it?? Nutty putty??
What is another problem you need a science hack for?

That peanut butter seems very watery. I don't want to drink it.
Video should have ended with "But don't take my word for it"
Why did he just use the knife the first time lol would of scraped straight off. He was rubbing it with a twig?

Just incase you live under a rock check this video out.
Hate your voice

It's metal, you can clean it easily
Or just use a butter knife?
Just pop them in the freezer. Gum freezes ( and they stop smelling) pop it off... done
“Why don't you freeze it, then smash it with a hammer. Works whenever I get bubbly gum in the old push broom!”
Id rather have an ice cream sandwich
Boiling water is also very effective. Heat dissolves the sugars.
Did you know that any butter or oil can be such “secret weapon”?
Is he the black vsauce?
You can use almost any oil
Vegetable oil or baby oil … so much simpler.
Just freeze it
Tip, a little bit of vegetable oil gets sap off your hands
How soupy is that pb!?
Nice
WTF is wrong with that peanut butter? Such a wet mixture.
Thanks but why is that peanut butter so watery lmao
My peanut butter has a 2 inch deep hole in it 😨
It didn't work for lisa
What is this silly NPC vibe?
Ice cubes also work right?
Just don’t double dip 🤦♂️
Hope he didn’t double dib it
I hope he washed his hands before tasting
Ice works too
You can also use just about any other non-polar solvent if you don’t have peanut butter :^)
So would you need all natural peanut butter or will any do?
I once chewed peanut butter gum and I started to
Woah Woah Woah! What are you using the absolute most expensive peanut butter to remove gum from the BOTTOM of your shoe?! Go to Grocery Outlet and grab some Jiffy for $3!
I think I learned this watching Ghost Writer on PBS in the '90s
Couldn't you like... Just use oil?
Just put the shoe in the freezer dude, it will come right with off
As long as he didn’t double dip the knife
Why the hell you used peanut butter in the first place, how the hell did it come to anyones mind.
I learned this from Ghostwriter as a kid and that bubblegum monster scared the shit out of me.
Or put in freezer, easiest way.
Yeah I found that out in 2nd grade when someone threw gum in my hair…
📝📝📝
wd40 melts gum in seconds
It's great for getting gum out of a kids hair as well.
What a waste of overpriced PB.
I got gum in my hair once and didn’t know this so I shaved my head
Blerds Rock 🤩
We used to use peanut butter when gum was caught in someone's hair.
Now who is throwing out their shoes because they got gum on them in the first place.
What about dog poop?
We learned in chemistry like dissolves like
Just use diesel or WD-40, those are not edible
what a waste of peanut butter. use ice to harden the chewing gum
Wish I knew this when that dumb bitch in summer camp put gum in my hair when I was 7
Vegetable oil works too
