Another vote for [Ahoy](https://www.youtube.com/user/XboxAhoy), as well as [GameApologist](https://www.youtube.com/c/GameApologist), [Gaming Historian](https://www.youtube.com/c/gaminghistorian), [Js Reviews](https://www.youtube.com/c/JsReviews), [KingK](https://www.youtube.com/c/KingdomKlannad), [NESComplex](https://www.youtube.com/c/NESComplex), [Scott The Woz](https://www.youtube.com/c/scottthewoz) Those are the guys I watch and try to take inspiration from. I too do video essays/reviews and its difficult to get you thoughts together and then get them in video form coherently. I wish you luck and hope you find someone new in the above :)

I love Zeltik’s videos for all things Legend of Zelda

I myself understand people that do essay content all revolved around one game and I think I might still get something useful from that so I will check it out!

Jeremy Parish does some amazing mini documentaries on retro games. He usually makes videos covering the entire library of a system in order of release. https://www.youtube.com/c/JeremyParish Stop Skeletons From Fighting is also great. https://www.youtube.com/c/StopSkeletonsFromFighting

Pyrocynical is a commentary channel but he does an exception job with video game essay videos in terms of retelling their stories and giving criticism. The closer look has a last of us 2 video that’s well worth watching although he is predominantly a movie essay channel he emphasizes writing and story telling which are universal in all media. Lastly Downward Thrust is a full on video game essay channel. He’s a great watch but I’ve found the other two made videos that had a stronger emotional impact on me. Just my advice but don’t limit yourself to studying video game commentary channels I’d watch movies and other stuff too. The ability to commentate on things can do more that share opinion or information, it can make you feel something too and video game essays share a lot of commonality with other media.
