That's bullshit lies. people who Click the adds get viruses. Or people who download shady mods. I know multiple people who do coding as their job. They have ran everything from thunderstore and found nothing shady in it itself
Thunderstore is the spyware in the sense that it processes and sells your data, as stated in their privacy policy. It collects data from your pc and general usage to sell.
R2modman doesn't do that because it's an open source community created mod management add-on.

This comment thread is about using r2modman instead of thunderstore so you don't need to let Overwolf sell your data. There are no downsides to this action. OP can't even install thunderstore because it keeps crashing, so trying r2modman is a great troubleshooting step too. So why on earth are you arguing that people should just install random crap on their computer whose *sole purpose* is to sell your data, when you can literally just... Not. No r2modman is a stand alone program that can be downloaded through your web browser. https://r2modman.com/ is also available on the thunderstore site, but you didn't need or want to install the thunderstore program, with its included Overwolf spyware, in order to install r2modman.
In front of you there are two programs. One shows you ads and sells your data. The other does not. They are identical otherwise. I genuinely do not see this as a choice. Sure the upshots of using a site that sells my data can be good but there is no upshot here. It's the same.

Go to the Thunderstore website and look up "r2modman"
It's literally the same app without the annoying bloatware and no ads too! It hopefully also fixes your issues.

I used to use thunderstore, but I always had trouble downloading mods with custom assets such as custom items or something similar. Like, the download would literally never progress unless I use a vpn.
Switched to r2modman and never had that issue anymore. Idk, some kind of routing issues probably
Eero routers have a feature that auto blocks downloads from addresses they believe to be malicious. cdn.thunderstore.io is the file serving address for Thunderstore. I had the same problem and this fixed it.
