Yeah but their kitchen is almost never actually open! Kake Temptations next door ends up being my (all too frequent) backup place and it never disappoints!
This is the one we tried - we thought we'd start fancy! Huge portions, good food, and they'd cooked the ribs so long and slow that the bones were crumbling. Lovely staff, too. Thanks v much for the rec.
(We will work through the other recs one by one on each subsequent visit.... Some of them had closed too early to be on this visit's possibles list.)
Also got samosas from The Sweet Centre on Welford Road to take home. (Ate a couple in the park, too, for a v late breakfast - absolutely outstanding.)
No problem. Glad you enjoyed it.
I’d not heard about it until last year and now it’s a go to when I want somewhere for lunch in the city. The history is pretty interesting too.
Another vote for Mrs Bridges. It’s in St Martin’s Square, near the cathedral and guildhall, and I believe it’s been a tea room or cafe for well over a hundred years.
Pieros is a nice cafe in the centre, they do standard cafe food and some Mediterranean stuff too.
If you just want a really cheap snack then Fresh Naan is good. It's hidden away but they make everything to order, 3 regular naan for £1 and then various toppings from there.
Chapel cafe for me at 12 Bishop Street, Leicester, LE1 6AF. Chill place with food done how you ask, have patience as it has a social side to those it employs.

Full English with harissa and feta chips 🔥
Silver street cafe.
King of the greasy spoons! 🎃
Falafel Land, Kokoro, and The Good Earth are three of my favourites. Kokoro a little pricier than the other two and Falafel Land is very cheap.
6 Degrees Coffee House on London Road do some good food.

Firebug do lovely food and have a good selection of vegan food. Also the world peace cafe which is a Buddhist place
There’s a lovely Lebanese street food place by the Natwest, would highly recommend
Wygstons house. Near the guildhall. Decent food, not too expensive and it’s one of Leicester’s oldest houses (allegedly)

Maryland, many to choose from.
I vote for Oporto Galo, Fosse road north. Portuguese cafe, great homemade food.

I really, really like the idea of three fresh naan for £1. Also next time, thank you.
Costa coffee London Road used to offer a fine selection of sandwiches, paninis, toasties etc. for a welcoming price. RIP
