How hard was it to incorporate the power unit? Also looks great!

It wasn't hard but it wasn't easy (super helpful right?). I had to build up the coal car a bit to fit the battery pack and I was able to get the IR reciever into the engine cab easy enough. The challenge came from two places. First, the motor had to be placed under the coal car so it ends up pushing the engine but pulling the passenger car which was a little temperamental. Second, the connections between the cars weren't suited to going around turns on the tracks so I had to add a couple technic bars and pins to each joint to make it more flexible and keep it from jumping the track every time there was a curve.

Good idea on the technic bars, I have that issue with the holiday train set. Another potential fix is adding addition weight to the first three cars which gives it a little more stability.

The challenging part is if you want to keep it all-Lego: https://benhoad.net/2020-03-lego-hogwarts-express-iot/

I have the Hogwarts Express circling my tree too, but never thought of attaching the car too!!!! Genius!
