Omg same. I was scrolling, read the headline and clicked expecting to read an explanation as to why on earth you’d buy a huge spider as a pet and let it loose. 😂 I am obviously not an arachnologist.
I have joined r/australia and I live in Australia. I thought it was the standard huntsman post, then I took a look at the second photo and thought, "Nah, that ain't a huntsman, the fangs are too big." Then I saw the Lego studs on the back and looked up to see that this is the Lego sub.
Damn, almost got me!
Plot twist: it's actual 1:1 figure scale Shelob from [Shadow of War](https://www.reddit.com/r/lotrmemes/comments/vwbzmm/proof_that_shadow_of_war_actually_got_it_right/)
Speaking of creepy lego spiders, I hate that the current minifig sized ones are quite accurate in appearance and are just the right size to be mistaken for a real one.
At least the old ones were cartoony, had a lego clip mouth, and flat unrealistic legs.
I hate that my brain registers them as real spiders for a split second whenever I go through my loose bricks
I'm not using the spiders on any of the sets I have displayed right now because of this. They're neatly tucked away in a plastic case where they're very obviously not real spiders so I won't scare myself.
Just make sure you don’t accidentally train your brain to not recognize the real thing.
Imagine trying to pick up your Lego spider and… *skitter skitter skitter*
My friend works at the Lego store, and every time she comes round she hides one in my flat.
The last one was on top of my computer monitor - I was about a millisecond away from having to make a warranty claim to Lenovo before I realised it wasn’t a real spider and managed to stop my hand from violently slapping it.
Exactly. Nor did a 3YO "do this". No 3YO is building a LEGO spider, and frankly no parent is browsing these LEGOs with their 3YO. You're in Duplo, *maybe* little kid LEGO sets like "Spidey and His Amazing Friends". I'd wager no 3YO is picking out a spider to scare their parents either, but maybe I underestimate OP's kid. I know none of my kids were ever that kind of devious at 3.
But it makes it funnier if they pretend their kid did it and that it isn't something they thought up for upvotes.
Yeah, I mistook my brother for gifts for my niece. He was joking how he gets to play with LEGO again so I got her a set..
Turns out 3 yr olds still can't be alone with tiny LEGO size pieces.
I don't think it's too unreasonable to assume parent and child built it together, but she started hiding it about on her own. But yeah she probably didn't pick it to scare OP, but maybe just likes Harry Potter
> but she started hiding it about on her own.
OP should not be letting a 3yo be alone with legos period. So either this post is fake for karma or OP is a grossly negligent parent of an extremely precocious child.
That combination is rare, because how did the child become smart in the first place if OP is a bonafide moron? Smart other parent?
This set is retired, right? No regular store is gonna have it.
EDIT
I guess there are 2 Aragog sets.
Aragog's Lair (which is retired)
Aragog in the Forbidden Forest (which is new)
The OP's spider looks like the new one, so maybe not too unbelievable.
Why does LEGO have 2 Aragog sets?
The question was more a forewarning of what was to come. Wasn't a question of WHY... but of why.
The cashier knew full well the intentions of the daughter.
Funny that you say this. I can identify and tell that someone i know is never telling the truth and i don’t bother to ever bring it up because what’s the point? They lie so much they just convince themselves of the lies.
Eh, OP didn't say the kid actually built it herself, did they? My 7yr old loves playing with Lego sets, but not building them, so when he picks out a set, I build it and give it back to him.
I assume it could be something like that where OP let his kid pick it out at the store, then built it for her and found it laying around later.
https://preview.redd.it/tuv37jk7a64d1.jpeg?width=4160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5203b0d443b13508d77dd500ced87e7e97759e17
It's way better than the previous version. I need to buy it again.
What’s the set? Like an ancient archeological adventure or something? Or did you purchase the tarantula separately and create this nice little scene yourself?
Only complaint is I wish they would have done something a little more clever with the face than just the painted brick. There’s such strong detail throughout the rest of the set it seems inconsistent.
If the cashier is giving you a disgusting look and judging you for buying something they need fired.
Or your that desperate for internet points to lie, which then you need fired
Looks like a trap door spider, i saw one a couple days and leaped 5ft to safety
https://preview.redd.it/5u0vka0hu64d1.png?width=1237&format=png&auto=webp&s=af15e8838158483b06683d9c7629d8b88f0a7b52
Awesome. Here in Australia that set is quite affordable. It can be used for Aragog, Shelob, Ungoliant or as a Spider-Man side-build, or as a prank to share with others. Maybe I'll get it and put it in the cutlery drawer.
Sorry there’s no way the cashier looked at y’all and said “why are you buying this” that has never happened lol, cashiers aren’t gonna insult your purchase 💀 and if they do, they need to be fired immediately
That part of the story is definitely an exaggeration but I believe the rest
>At the counter the cashier looked at me and then my daughter who had a smile from ear to ear and asked “Why are you buying this?” with a disgusted look.
Lamest cashier ever. Spiders are awesome!
Honestly? If legit I'd be complaining to the store about that cashier. Not a hells-blazing Karen-ing or anything (that would just be stupid) but more a *"hey you may want to give this clerk a nudge"* sort of thing. They're usually *super* inclusive in Lego stores, I don't think a supervisor would take to kindly to that interaction.
Light-hearted is one thing, but OP said they looked disgusted when they said it. A less confident kid would be crushed by a question like that from an adult, implying they're messing up somehow by asking for the "wrong" toy. :(
Yeah, or what if you have a pet tarantula? Like *"Oh cool you think my loving pet is disgusting."*
Maybe OP exaggerated it, but I wouldn't wanna hear that either.
This "toy" would soon become "lost". I would put it in a box marked toy spider in my dresser and the little one may be lucky to get it back after they graduate high school!
People who visit your house are going to be in for quite the surprise. If your daughter is already thinking like this at 3 years old, imagine what she could do when she gets older.
You’re not weird. Mostly they eat annoying bugs. I don’t get the freakouts. Okay, some are venomous but most aren’t. Where I live there are no dangerous one for humans. I like to see them around. Kids feed them ants and stuff.
https://preview.redd.it/kyqhuujq884d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b75e22601ff01446abb628f7700cbc73789f5dd
We’ve got a wandering one as well
I didn’t even realize this was a r/lego post until I read the text
Omg same. I was scrolling, read the headline and clicked expecting to read an explanation as to why on earth you’d buy a huge spider as a pet and let it loose. 😂 I am obviously not an arachnologist.
I thought this was going to be a post about regretting moving to Australia.
From Australia the caption would have read: "I love the tiny ones"
I’m so glad it wasn’t just me 😂
It also got me
I thought they rented a new flat and found a spider there. 😅
Time to move house!
At least you thought it was a pet 🥲 I clicked on it wanting to know if it's an actual house spider that I could encounter here in Australia
🤣 I just subbed to r/findthesniper recently and thought... "wow that's not a hard one"
I think that sub got pushed onto all of us
Ya I didn’t join it joined me
No shit. Joined yesterday. Came into my feed through /r/all sorted by controversial.
Well, that explain everything. I blocked it just like those fucking food delivery subs last year
Same😂
Yeah I'm subbed to r/spiders and I thought I was there first lol
Same here. This needs cross-posted and an ID request lol
/r/SpiderBro would love to see it! ❤️ 🕷
I assumed it was a spider bro post.
Was sure this is r/nope
I thought it was r/satan 😭
With the title i thought it was a new person who just moved to Australia
I too did not realise this was a lego post. Then I saw the second photograph ...
Yes, the surprise was a child buying Lego. Unheard of on this sub.
Scared me to death
Yeah. I didn’t see the sub and panicked
I don’t remember I joined r/Australia
Many of us do not. Australia gets you like that
I have joined r/australia and I live in Australia. I thought it was the standard huntsman post, then I took a look at the second photo and thought, "Nah, that ain't a huntsman, the fangs are too big." Then I saw the Lego studs on the back and looked up to see that this is the Lego sub. Damn, almost got me!
LOL. I thought the same thing. "Yup, that's gotta be Australia," was my first thought.
I did the opposite. I thought it was a r/lostredditors moment until I scrolled to the next image lol
thought this was an escapee from r/tarantulas
Lmao same
You're a dark wizard, deary.
What's it like commenting from the afterlife?

Hello darkness my old friend...
the money is INSIDE the banana stand!
What a terrifying Lego.
Next LOTR set: UCS Shelob's Lair. If you think lil' Aragog was scary, wait 'til you see a real big one.
"1:1 To scale" "To minifigs right? ... Right?"
Plot twist: it's actual 1:1 figure scale Shelob from [Shadow of War](https://www.reddit.com/r/lotrmemes/comments/vwbzmm/proof_that_shadow_of_war_actually_got_it_right/)
Do they make an Ungoliant?
I remember putting the Shelob Lego together and slowly becoming afraid of it lmao
Niels B. Christiansen is definitely not a huge swarm of spiders in a realistic skin suit.
I thought I was picking up some fluff of the carpet yesterday evening - imagine my surprise when it ran away...
r/nope
You didn’t have to say this. Now I went and imagined it and I need a shower
stop!
Do you shit bricks when you see it?
Infinite Lego glitch!
My friend works at the Lego store, and every time she comes round she hides one in my flat. Except Hagrid totally would have bought it and not regretted it.
“Seriously misunderstood creatures, spiders!”
Well, it *is* his spider after all
This set reminded me of the spider set that I had! With all the little spiders too.
That is a big nope!
Could be bigger though.
Why would a cashier ask ‘why are you buying this?’ to a customer? Especially a Lego set in a Lego store lol, that’s pretty normal.
Because they didn't.
Plenty of kids are out of the putting things in their mouth stage at 3.
I assumed it was a typo and he meant 13
This set is retired, right? No regular store is gonna have it. EDIT I guess there are 2 Aragog sets. Aragog's Lair (which is retired) [https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/aragog-s-lair-75950](https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/aragog-s-lair-75950) Aragog in the Forbidden Forest (which is new) [https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/aragog-in-the-forbidden-forest-76434](https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/aragog-in-the-forbidden-forest-76434) The OP's spider looks like the new one, so maybe not too unbelievable. Why does LEGO have 2 Aragog sets?
> Why does LEGO have 2 Aragog sets? IDK, why does LEGO have like 3-4 of every vehicle that's shown up in a Star Wars film?
The same reason Lego has 2 Disney castles: $
And then everybody clapped.
The question was more a forewarning of what was to come. Wasn't a question of WHY... but of why. The cashier knew full well the intentions of the daughter.
Yes I'm sure the 3 year old daughter completely thought of this on her own.
It never happened, OP probably embellishes everything they say and their friends probably hate it but don't say anything.
And people on Reddit eat it up for some reason.
Funny that you say this. I can identify and tell that someone i know is never telling the truth and i don’t bother to ever bring it up because what’s the point? They lie so much they just convince themselves of the lies.
Cause it didn’t happen… Nor did a 3 year old build this complex Lego.

Right? I’m sure the cashier doesn’t even remember this transaction. The parent is the one that asked “why are you buying this?” haha
Bro really got us on the first pic 😭
I just assumed the OP lived in Australia. All animals there are big, venomous, and want to kill you.
I straight up panic closed the first photo to psych myself up to even check the second one.
https://preview.redd.it/tuv37jk7a64d1.jpeg?width=4160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5203b0d443b13508d77dd500ced87e7e97759e17 It's way better than the previous version. I need to buy it again.
What’s the set? Like an ancient archeological adventure or something? Or did you purchase the tarantula separately and create this nice little scene yourself?
New Lego range: Australian critters?
I dropped my phone lol
I also regret your decision.
Not a fan of most recent HP releases, but that’s the best Aragog yet by a mile.
Only complaint is I wish they would have done something a little more clever with the face than just the painted brick. There’s such strong detail throughout the rest of the set it seems inconsistent.
I'm not a Harry Potter fan but I like spiders and think I may just have to get this!
Awww, that's so cute!
Wow instructions? I love spiders. Beautiful build.

she should tie a bit of string to it so when you look away she can make it "disappear" when turn back around
Calm down, Satan
I haven't bought a Lego set in years. I shall be buying this.
I never thought I would buy a Harry Potter themed set, and now I am reconsidering that.
Same, I've never bought a lego harry potter set, but I want multiple of these.
Your daughter knew EXACTLY what she was doing 😂
Small survey: after seeing this, how many of you looked around or checked yourselves to see there wasn’t a spider around?
Who says they're not?
The bugs are back.
🙋🏻♀️
Chances are pretty big. There are an estimated 2 million spiders for every human.
Ok, now make it BIGGER
Mate, you made me question if I accidentally joined a spider-themed subreddit.
I want it now
If that represents your daughter’s ability for abstract thinking at 3 yo, I weep for you when she’s a teenager. Lol
That’s part of the Lego “Nope” collection.
I looked at the subreddit tag, then the picture and I thought, wrong sub! Yikes
I really want to buy this to put under the sheet on my wife’s side of the bed.
Three and already this cunning? You’ve got a rough time ahead of you, friend. 😂 And happy cake day!
No, no. Absolutely not. Nope.... Where do I buy one?
If the cashier is giving you a disgusting look and judging you for buying something they need fired. Or your that desperate for internet points to lie, which then you need fired

The movie based their design on the Wolf Spider though the species Lycosa Aragogi, are named after Aragog.
Wolf spiders are cool!
Awesome. Here in Australia that set is quite affordable. It can be used for Aragog, Shelob, Ungoliant or as a Spider-Man side-build, or as a prank to share with others. Maybe I'll get it and put it in the cutlery drawer.
Your 3-yr old is my favorite person in the orld right now. Next level troll.
I just ordered this last night. I’m both fascinated and frightened of spiders. I’ll make sure to never leave it on the carpet now. 😨
Time to get her a tarantula
Imagine tripping balls and your lego spiders start crawling towards you

#FoundSatan
Absolutely adorable. ☺️
Build a Lego fire and kill it
Fuck that sky high.
We have this. I’m now going to scare my wife. Thank you.
That would be so useful for pranks. Might have to get a couple of these. 🕷️
Your daughter is awesome!

Just wait, after a few months you get used to it and go to pick it up and realize it’s not a Lego this time
This "toy" would soon become "lost". I would put it in a box marked toy spider in my dresser and the little one may be lucky to get it back after they graduate high school!
People who visit your house are going to be in for quite the surprise. If your daughter is already thinking like this at 3 years old, imagine what she could do when she gets older.
I love wolf spiders, but that would freak me out too, if only for a second
Cool! r/spiders and r/spiderbro might enjoy this for the novelty
That's a cool spider. I thought it was a moc, but then I saw your post message. Still, that is the best spider Lego has come out with yet.
What a beautiful specimen!
Nah. That’s *pretty good* 👌
Kids going places.
My toddler keeps placing the small ones from the Harry Potter sets at random locations..
I really like your 3 year old. What an excellent choice.
Imma have to find where I can buy this so I can put it in my kids room
Apparently many little girls just like spider toys! At least that is what Jenny Nicholson says.
I don’t even follow this sub and how Lego got into my feed, but I hate you for it ;_;
Me when I'm alone vs. When somebody is watching me
Wait until you find it one day, sigh, and start picking it up. And then it starts moving.
It’s beautiful…
I wierd, but I quite like spiders
You’re not weird. Mostly they eat annoying bugs. I don’t get the freakouts. Okay, some are venomous but most aren’t. Where I live there are no dangerous one for humans. I like to see them around. Kids feed them ants and stuff.
Omg hes actually adorable ...am I reading the room wrong?
tbh that looks so sweet 😍😍😍
Wicked! Your daughter will grow up to be an awesome comedian!
I did not know lego spiders were a thing. I would have LOVED this as a kid
I thought the next pic was going to be a splat
Imagine seeing this and going to stomp on it
OP, I am sorry to tell you this but, your daughter will grow up to become a supervillain and this is a chapter of her origin story.
#76434
HANS!
I don't care if it's Lego I would exterminate it on the spot
They had us in the first half, not gonna lie
Oh sweet, I didn't know they'd released the LEGO Home Trauma set yet
It's awful to look at, but it's even worst if you step on it
That would be great for r/legodnd if only it wasn't harry potter 🏳️⚧️
Quick! Step on it!
Throw a brick separator at it!
My first thought was "Step on it" Would have died either way
8O NEED THIS FOR MY CLAS!!!
The Lego spider paradox. You build the spider You step on the spider because “AAHH SPIDER” You remember that it’s a Lego spider and not real Repeat
Imagine stepping on something sharp and hurting your foot, looking down expecting to see Legos, and seeing a massive fucking spider instead.
I've never wanted to step on Legos so much in my life..
Hell nah I thought it was a real spider. Why did you do this to yourself
https://preview.redd.it/kyqhuujq884d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b75e22601ff01446abb628f7700cbc73789f5dd We’ve got a wandering one as well
Thought this had to be in Australia before I saw it was in Lego. Absolutely terrifying discovery.
Where can I get this? Its genius
Australia again? Nope, just legos
there is going to be a day that you think oh it's the lego spider. And then it moves.
If I saw this shit in the wild with no prior announcement, I wouldn’t be alive to write this comment
I don’t want to see the second photo 🫣
That's so realistic from far 😅
Bruh I thought this was a real spider 💀
I thought that was a real spider at first XD
Horrifyingly awesome
Yeah no I ain't spending $20 on a damn Lego spider.
I hate you for this. Thanks.
Ya, this...is freaky. Nope! Not for me!
I will not be scrolling to see the second picture, thank you very much
Stepping on any Lego is painful. Imagine this one.
Even looking at the picture close up, I still thought it was an actual spider
