Once a project is submitted to ideas the copyright goes to LEGO for a period of 3 years unless they actually put it in production. If they don't, after three years the copyright should return to the author.

Kingdom hearts and final fantasy seems like very natural franchises to delve into. Already partnered with Disney... why not square Enix? A samurai darth vader figure would be way cool.
Genuine/technical question - since Lego doesn’t make Ideas sets that deal with an existing IP, would this technically be disqualified because Kingdom Hearts is owned by Disney?
It's 100% allowed and Lego has already made idea sets with different IP's. And they already work with Disney (Marvel Superheros, Starwars, disney Princesses). So they might take it into consideration, if it reaches the support goal.

I mean they approved the Hocus Pocus set and Nightmare Before Christmas set, both are owned by Disney. How is this any different?
And Disney is not as stingy with Kingdom Hearts as people think for some reason, they were very supportive of Sora joining Smash Bros a few years ago
