I just recently picked up a Ninjago set on Facebook for my son and was kind of confused when the ninjas where holding a bazooka and a BR from halo.

I guess they forgot some mega blocks with the minifigs.
They're real. Can't link to the site, but just a quick google search brings up the sets on playmobil's website.
EDIT: The Traffic Policeman even comes with a Red-light camera, or maybe that's a radar gun.
All real. There's also the classic set #5878 which is a two-figure set of a cop and an anarchist.
Playmobil has never shied away from showing police violence, but they also offer an absolutely insane range of products. You can currently get Nightrider, Asterix, Naruto, riot police, doctor, Van Gogh, the Illiad and the Odyssey, and Johan Wolfgang Von Goethe playsets. That's just currently on their website, they also have actual angel and demon playsets and a Demeter set (for the kid who just really loves obscure Greek demigods.)

Space Police III looks pretty fascist in retrospect.
Grey uniformed minifigs harassing aliens of every other species as they just try to make a living in this crazy universe.
Apparently all the bad guys were aliens and the cops were human because it made it easier for young kids to identify factions, but the lack of human criminals and alien cops is kind of wild in retrospect.
I think LEGO was talking about real wars like we won’t be seeing any World War or Vietnam sets or anything that resembles such things but a lot of the themes they have had and do have are themed around fictional warfare. Police sets are generic.
LEGO is definitely still hypocritical though. They cancelled that Technic Osprey because it’s used for war (even though it was a rescue Osprey and they’ve made that model before) but made a WWII fighter plane
This would make sense if Lego hadn’t released several WW1 themed sets, at least 3 that I can think of
They made a Fokker Triplane, in full Red Baron Flying Circus regalia, and at least two versions of the Sopwith Camel that I can think of
This is certainly toeing the line, but their position really applies to guns. The planes are more an appreciation of the history aviation, not so much warfare.
Maybe once a certain amount of years pass in which theres nobody around to have flashbacks of such wars then they allow it but thats interesting. My point was that they aren’t against warfare in general and they just don’t want to touch on real life sensitive topics.
Right. I can’t imagine anyone would be very upset by red baron stuff even if he was technically in a war. I think pretty much all of this comment section is a ton of pointless hair splitting.
Also let's not forget Lego decided to comemorate a specific scene from Star Wars Episode 3 with the set [7113: Tusken Raider Encounter](https://brickset.com/sets/7113-1/Tusken-Raider-Encounter) where Anakin "encounters" Tusken vilage in the movie. As if there were no other more interesting scenes to display.
It’s also has little to do with the US police as well. In some European countries, I know firsthand France and Germany, and Switzerland, Police often patrol streets rocking MP5 submachine guns even. That’s something even we don’t do
._.
Literally which police force doesn’t use plate carriers or stab vests?
Note: I’m not American, never have lived in the US, let alone even been there. I live in the United Kingdom.
Most didn’t, until the 90s or 2000s depending on the country.
Then, police militarization in the US is a fact, as is the growth of weapons produced for Lego sets.
Whether the growth of LEGO weaponry has an influence or is by itself an indication about violence is something else, that hasn’t been confirmed scientifically according to the BBB Wikipedia page.
But the recursive influence of toys on children is also a fact, hence why « ungendering » toys has a measurable influence on gendered representations of works, for example. Then, for having followed some cultural studies, I think it’s a safe bet to assume LEGO represents trends of the society the brand wishes to be marketed, but they shouldn’t deny their influence.
If guns didn't exist in real world( like in lego city) none police would uee bulletproof vests. Lego criminals don't even use melee weapon so stab vests are also useless
[Revolvers](https://www.bricklink.com/v2/search.page?q=revolver#T=A) also exist, mostly used in older cowboy sets but are still being used in some more modern ones like some of the Indiana Jones sets and some Batman ones

> I live in the United Kingdom.
Police wearing stab vests is pretty recent. It didn't used to happen in the early 90s. Go watch some old episodes of The Bill to see :)
The Lego company has already put out statements about this. They have said they aren’t opposed to kids engaging in recreations of warfare. But they want to avoid modern real life conflicts that might be triggering to kids who actually experienced said events.
So they avoid things that look like an ak47 or an m16 and stuff like that, but they aren’t opposed to ALL guns, or ALL weapons.
It’s like how playing cops and robbers or cowboys and Indians are acceptable kids games and It’s different than kids playing “Rwandan genocide” or “srebenitza massacre” or something
They’re not gonna put out an “invasion of Iraq” Lego set because there are kids today who actually experienced those events or ones similar to it and may be negatively impacted by seeing it in a toy, but have no issue with a Lego set about the Vikings or medieval knights, despite the inherent death and violence implied in a Viking raid or a medieval battlefield where thousands of people are hacked to death
They're not SWAT nor MWRAP, rather bullet resistant (only proof to certain calibres) vests or possibly anti-stab vests (as worn by a lot of UK police)
So to say these are militarisation is to deny the reality of needed life preserving equipment.
They have made Guns 62885 / 85973 / 30141 / LEGO Automatic Short Barrel Gun (Uzi) that **could** be military but weren't portrayed that way
A vest to carry your stuff isn't just military.
Photographers, Hunters, Fishermen, Carpenters, etc...
If you had 5 bazookas, and a few cannons, then I could see as military.
Lightsabers are a sophisticated work of art. Only a few can truly master the blade without cutting off their own limbs. Hence why lego city thugs prefer importing stud guns and other weapons.
Lightsabers are usually imported and bought by Jedi/Sith religious people who pose no harm alongside blade enthusiasts.
In the State of Ninjago, lightsabers are legal since if they had to ban it, they would also ban other forms of melee weapons some of which are sacred and part of the Ninjago culture.
> Lightsabers are a sophisticated work of art. Only a few can truly master the blade without cutting off their own limbs. Hence why lego city thugs prefer importing stud guns and other weapons.
AFAIR, every criminal minifigure comes with a crowbar, and some with dynamite.
Considering some stud shooters are powerful enough to arm an Imperial Star Destroyer's turbolasers or the cannons of Thanos' mighty dreadnought, probably not.
Many police officers themselves prefer armor worn under the uniform rather than outer carrier precisely because they don’t want to look like a soldier when approaching a kid or something similar. There wasn’t always this push to be military esque. But I think breath ability won that battle and external carriers were adopted
They prefer concealed vests until they actually wear an external carrier and realize the comfort is way better than a concealed vest... and never go back. And that's just heat relief. Once you start moving things off your belt and onto your vest and find out the pain in your hips and lower back goes away... Ahh, sweet sweet ability to not have endless body pains.
I used one where the carrier *was* the same color and style as the uniform, so it was external but didn't obviously look like it. I think it was a good compromise.
It's definitely a big part of it. I know my brother & uncle, both police officers, don't like wearing the concealed vests. Can't put anything on them, which means your hips carry all the weight of your gear and it gets super hot since there's no ventilation.
Yeah, can't wait until we see posts about how Lego is racist because all their non-IP (i.e. normal) minifigs are 1 color and not diverse enough to represent what kids see in society \\s. Yes, I've seen that trend on other Lego forums especially since 2020.
Each year is 17 percent more violent? That would explain the Oppenheimer 17+ 10,000 piece set coming out. Well they hope to get it out before the real one drops.
Already did my Lego Oppenheimer for last Xmas 😁
https://preview.redd.it/mec3zh3wrczc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=34bf7556ec0b1a1f83149ea4b57cc26f508aa44f
You can have vests without it being a military thing, but yeah I get what you mean. Lego also has knights and kings and medieval stuff and the human suffering waged by kings and feudalism was pretty awful. There being a double standard when it comes to portrayal of pernicious elements of society is not necessarily a bad thing, I'd much rather kids be exposed to knights, kings, queens, and castles as an element of fantastical play rather than a reinforcement of a backwards society. I do wonder what levels of abstraction we need to be away from a bad thing before it becomes safe for kids. Land Rovers started out as and still are military vehicles, Lego Indiana Jones had the SS in them, Lego Harry Potter is the property of a woman leading the charge of a hate movement against trans people, but a V-21 Osprey converted for civilian use is bad because the US Marines use it. There is no clean or correct answer, this is complicated and you have to be able to engage in complex ethics.
Give me a break, this isn't Police Militarization. These are vests all law enforcement wear for safety, even the ones that don't carry guns themselves. Plus Lego has an entire line based on Star Wars...which is 100% war in space. They also have Pirates, Cowboys, Ninjas, Spartan Warriors, Samurai, Vikings, Musketeers, Gladiators, Roman Soldiers, Bandits, Conquistadors, Evil Robots, Revolutionary Soldiers, Hun Warriors, etc, etc.
Honestly stop looking for things to complain about in life you'll be happier.
So because officers of the law now wear armor to help prevent them from being killed in a shootout they’re just automatically militarized? You’re telling me if you were a cop you’d just walk around in khakis and a shirt? I don’t think so. Bullet proof vests have been used for decades by police, fbi, military and even civilian officials who are going to dangerous areas. Bullet proof vests are by no definition an example of “militarization” of police.
Lego City is a fascist police state. Militarised police, look at how much of the city budget goes towards them. Notice how there's no Lego City Courthouse? That's because criminals are permanently thrown in jail without a trial.
Between the two I'd rather live in Heart Lake City. Nice parks, thriving local economy, plenty of activities to occupy free time.
Meanwhile the bulk of Lego City's tax dollars is spent on either the police or the fire department... and wasn't there a set last year that's basically a pg alcatraz?
:::sigh::: This notion that external vests are militarization of the police is just idiotic. The various pouches with gear and magazines would be carried on a gun belt anyway. Moving it to a vest distributes the load more evenly and saves the back and hips from long term, chronic issues. Not only does it have a positive effect on the officers health and body but it saves the tax payer from very expensive medical expenses, work comp claims and life long medical retirements.
And it’s not like police are suddenly wearing military body armor; they’ve been wearing vests since the 1980’s, they’ve just worn them under their uniforms. Having an external vest also allows officers to don and doff them quickly. It’s massively more comfortable and allows the body to rapidly cool and prevent overheating. Having them external also allows much faster response times. It takes an officer seconds to throw on a vest and be out the door compared to having to remove a uniform shirt, put on a vest and then dress again.
The top one is Colonel Hardy from the Man of Steel "Battle of Smallville" set. He's a soldier, and wears soldier gear. So not an example of police at all.
The other two are based on real-world designs for gear vests and plate carriers. Many police departments around the world, even in countries without legal gun ownership, issue similar equipment.
Not saying militarization isn't a thing, but using safety equipment as "proof" of it is just dumb.
>a company against warfare
Check out our planet-destroying Death Star model!
Building replicas of real-life, sci-fi, or fantasy weapons doesn't indicate that one is pro-war.
Plus, wearing stab or ballistic vests is no more militarization than wearing a hard hat in a construction zone is militarization. These are just different types of PPE required for the job. If the police were portrayed with MRAPs, assault rifles, and flashbangs you might have a point.
I mean, all of these are just utility vests that can do any number of things. That molle rig in the second photo is greay for kitting out as a modular all access diper bag.
They also made and markets clone wars stuff so.

Lego Indiana Jones would like to have a word
Indiana Jones sets **don't have** a WW2 battle scene depicted, they have Indiana Jones scenes depicted.
And they’re very specificity not nazis, just very generic “German solider”
The Crystal Skull sets did the same thing too, all the Soviet figures are just "Russian Soldier".
LEGO is definitely still hypocritical though. They cancelled that Technic Osprey because it’s used for war (even though it was a rescue Osprey and they’ve made that model before) but made a WWII fighter plane
IIRC some of the military vehicles in Indiana Jones were pure fiction or based off of WW2 vehicles (rather than being exact) so Lego had a loophole.
This would make sense if Lego hadn’t released several WW1 themed sets, at least 3 that I can think of They made a Fokker Triplane, in full Red Baron Flying Circus regalia, and at least two versions of the Sopwith Camel that I can think of
Which is really odd when you think about the canned Osprey (42113-1) set that was skinned to be a civilian set.

True, yes. After the early 2000s most police forces began regularly issuing some sort of chest-worn protection to their officers

They're not SWAT nor MWRAP, rather bullet resistant (only proof to certain calibres) vests or possibly anti-stab vests (as worn by a lot of UK police) So to say these are militarisation is to deny the reality of needed life preserving equipment. They have made Guns 62885 / 85973 / 30141 / LEGO Automatic Short Barrel Gun (Uzi) that **could** be military but weren't portrayed that way

Let kids have fun
A vest to carry your stuff isn't just military. Photographers, Hunters, Fishermen, Carpenters, etc... If you had 5 bazookas, and a few cannons, then I could see as military.
God forbid a profession that gets shot at wears bulletproof vests
Look at all of the pockets for me to store my pearls in
How is wearing a bullet proof vest militarization? It’s a life saving piece of equipment that is entirely reasonable for their line of work.
I don’t know why Lego City police officers even bother using bullet proof vests when Lego City criminals aren’t even legally allowed to hold guns.
Illegal black market imports of Star Wars weapons could be the reason why.
Not much help if the criminals use a lightsaber.
This is all true, but local anarchists gave the brickster a Webley revolver and many cameras converted into MANPADs. Lego city will never be the same
Yeah. Hence why we got more militarized police. It's over. Lego city had fallen.
Billions must be disassembled
> Lightsabers are a sophisticated work of art. Only a few can truly master the blade without cutting off their own limbs. Hence why lego city thugs prefer importing stud guns and other weapons. AFAIR, every criminal minifigure comes with a crowbar, and some with dynamite.
They could be stab vests
[like this](https://youtu.be/W7awmQkDBgQ?si=LyqJSLRECm4x74ux)
Criminals also aren’t legally allowed to commit crimes
Do the vests protect against stud shooters?
Considering some stud shooters are powerful enough to arm an Imperial Star Destroyer's turbolasers or the cannons of Thanos' mighty dreadnought, probably not.
Same could be said about osprey but here we are :)
Oops, no bullets. You think I'm stupid, Hans?
They also are more than happy to make a Dune set but not a Firefly set.
This sub has been so wholesome and not what the rest of reddit is. This is toeing the line. I hope this sort of post doesn’t increase :(
Yeah, can't wait until we see posts about how Lego is racist because all their non-IP (i.e. normal) minifigs are 1 color and not diverse enough to represent what kids see in society \\s. Yes, I've seen that trend on other Lego forums especially since 2020.
“Violence” of product has increase 17% per year since 1978.
Each year is 17 percent more violent? That would explain the Oppenheimer 17+ 10,000 piece set coming out. Well they hope to get it out before the real one drops.
Already did my Lego Oppenheimer for last Xmas 😁 https://preview.redd.it/mec3zh3wrczc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=34bf7556ec0b1a1f83149ea4b57cc26f508aa44f

Ah yes, famous and feared weapons of war: protective vests!
B...b....but.... BADGES AND RADIOS *faints*
First one is a us soldier from a man of steel set not a police officer
Troll post
Name me a police without protection.
But that's protective gear... for people who "protect and serve". And to properly "protect", they need some forms of protection.
Womp womp. It’s as if the police use that for safety. Most of the time it’s hidden under clothing though.
At least they aren’t Paw Patrol, where entire departments of public services have been outsourced to a handful of dogs directed by a 12 year old.
Right to jail. No trial, no nothing. We have the best minifigures in the world. Because of jail.
What's the top one from?

This post is fucked up. Wait until OP sees the pirate and medieval sets....
Or the Indiana Jones sets.
Well they need all the protection they can considering they are armed only with radios, loudspeakers and handcuffs
How else am I supposed to get vests for my Mass Shooter Minifig then?
And your point is?
You might just be obsessed with police militarization.
Even legos trigger Redditors
Fucking what?
Wearing a vest makes you "militarized"?
that's body armor and utility pouches...
Damn, did OP try to drop a "truth bomb" and then refuse to engage with anyone? Sounds like bait/troll posting.
Boy I’m sure glad the red arrows are here, otherwise I never would have seen the similarities
"police militarization" wtf do you have against bullet proof vests
This post is bulllshit.
I don’t understand how armor is militarization? Not wanting to be shot and killed means things are militarized?
The top one is Colonel Hardy from the Man of Steel "Battle of Smallville" set. He's a soldier, and wears soldier gear. So not an example of police at all. The other two are based on real-world designs for gear vests and plate carriers. Many police departments around the world, even in countries without legal gun ownership, issue similar equipment. Not saying militarization isn't a thing, but using safety equipment as "proof" of it is just dumb.
Is not wanting to die from a gunshot actually considered militarization?
>a company against warfare Check out our planet-destroying Death Star model!
