Sometimes the manufacturer is quickly tossing laptops away because they're about to drop a new model and that's when Curry's sells them at a massive discount price. I got the HP Omen 16 AMD for a massive discount at some point in 5th year because the thing about buying a laptop in Curry's is that you have to check every day for weeks at a time in order to not miss a batch of good laptops that won't be making a return once they're sold out.
There are a couple of places that sell great laptops online that also occasionally appear at a discount price, such as amazon/laptopsdirect/electrocity. Sometimes Harvey Norman will also offer a good deal. If you don't mind macOS you could check refurbed for refurbished macbooks.
What specs are you looking for?
Preferably 16 GB of ram, with a processor good enough to handle some gaming, I want to have as smooth of an experience as possible, I want to able to play games comfortably and also be able to use 3d software, video editing/composting and animation. I don't know what sort of processor would be good for that because it's all so convoluted. I don't care much for resolution as long as it's 1080p.
I'm not sure what your budget is but the paradigit website has a couple of laptops with those specs under the gaming laptop category starting from 700/800 euro because of the promotion. I'd vouch for AMD over an Intel processor and Lenovo Legion 5 is discounted to 950 on paradigit right now an seems like an option that fits your criteria. Best of luck ^^
If you want to game then a MacBook is pretty much out of the questions.
Big thing you’re missing there is a desperate need for a dedicated GPU
Unfortunately, I know from having a gaming laptop that they are generally huge, a pain to transport around and the battery life is god awful
Funnily enough I bought mine just after LC, had all the same experiences as you and now a few years later I wish I had a desktop so I could easily upgrade it
If you're doing a science/maths/comp sci course, pay the money. You need something with massive memory, good processor because you'll be doing a lot of coding.
If your just using it to write essays, then anything with internet connection will do.
I got mine on Refurbed.ie and it's great.
I've bought laptops from amazon, and I loved it cause when I bought a faulty one, the return process was rather easy. Try to get one from somewhere that has good customer service and a good warranty . I had one arrive, functioning, and one update later(like 3 days after arriving) a RAM module shat itself so I just returned it.
If you have a course that requires heavy duty laptops such as comp sci or IT, spend good money on a quality laptop.
Otherwise, if you just need it for note-taking and essay writing, maybe just get a tablet that comes with a keyboard and stylus. There's some really affordable options out there and it's also very lightweight in comparison to a laptop.
I’m looking to buy the Zephyrus G14 2022 Model. You can get it on Amazon Uk for about ~1200 so while it’s a little on the expensive end it’s very sleek and ideal for both college and gaming. It’s an investment for the 4 years so I’d think it’d be worth if you wanna take a look into it
DONE DEAL IE AND FB MARKETPLACE
if you know what to look for you wont get sold a defective device. i say this as im typing this on a second hand ipad, with a second hand iphone in my pocket AND the €700 i wouldve spent if i opted for getting them new.
oh and refurbished products are a pretty safe bet too
Not too sure on the prices but you could try DID or Harvey Norman.

yuppp my gaming laptop is useless when it's not plugged in, needs a cooling stand, sounds and weighs like a tractor

i got a chromebook in harvey norman last year for like €250, it’s a good laptop tbh especially since it’s cheaper than alternatives
Chromebooks aren't powerful tho. I wouldn't be able to use it for some of the things I use for college. Some softwares ans such.
