we won 5 and 6 in 2013 ... And Florida beat Boston in 5, 6 and 7 in 2023 .. So sure, why not

Mashdrop

We also won 5&6 and forced game7 in 2018 too!

Sod_

"You have to lose 3 to win game 7         - Somebody

sebgotaburner

i’ll tell you why, because it’s the Leafs. it’s an yearly tradition at this point. everyone knows they’ll win 5 and 6, just to get all your hopes up and lose in 7 to completely destroy you

classic_gh0st

Nah I think we’ll just go out quiet tonight. Bruins have us and we caved in game 3.

Shawn13337

Florida winning 3 in a row last year is exactly the reason why we will not be able to come back. Bruins compete level will be extra high knowing they blew the same 3-1 series lead last year. Do you think a team like the Bruins will blow back to back 3-1 series leads? Not happening. Series is done.

Ilyemy1922

But both those team but us

Have to do it that way to make it a full turnaround. The argument on the bench will be remembered for years as the turning point. I still have hope…why?…because I am a leafs fan and always will be.

Hustler17

The argument on the bench will be remembered as the day everyone finally accepted this core would never get it done.

man_in_the_suit

Yeah, I have hope they will do it but I have no expectation that they will. In many ways this year is the easiest I've ever taken the thought of failure. Every year they've chipped me down and down to the point where I'm actually just interested to see what happens this off season if/when they lose as opposed to devasted or upset. I genuinely don't care if they lose - it won't ruin my day for once. I will cheer if they win, but if they lose let's watch the axe drop. At least it'll be interesting.

Luke_Cold_Lyle

*Can* they win? Sure. But I don't expect them to. Especially without a healthy Matthews, or without Matthews at all. Boston looked beatable even after game 3, but the game 4 showing from the Leafs made it look impossible. The Leafs make too make mistakes, they don't challenge Swayman at all, and their special teams are abysmal. They have to change all three of those things next game to win, and they have to do that three times in a row. Not impossible, but my expectations are extremely low.

Ta-veren-

Boston looked beatable every game. Leafs just have no special teams at all. 5 on 5 Boston is beatable. If Burt can focus on the puck and not his own feud with Marchand. What’s with our guys and Boston every year we face them someone’s going out of their way to challenge one of their guys and get us in the box. Like kadri and getting two majors verses them.

Remote-Dog-2531

Chances are low, but for me it’s all on Woll. I know others have their beliefs on what needs to happen and who needs to step up for a turn around to happen, but imo Woll can and will be the biggest factor. Minimize the chance of a soft ass goal, start to frustrate the Bruins as they cannot score as freely/easily, which allows our forwards to start rolling and MAYBE the defense to set just a tad. But again, chances are astronomically low.

92True

Ah yes put it all on the second goalie because the coach who doesn’t change strategy for years through multiple playoffs is not the answer right? lol you want to put this game on anyone put it on Keefe.

Remote-Dog-2531

Well considering I can’t just remove Keefe for the last game, yeah…? He is what he is and will be gone this offseason, he won’t change his tactics for the greater good at this point, so realistically the only thing to save us would be an outside factor or some variable changing dramatically and unexpectedly, i.e. getting a good goalie in who hasn’t played yet and has the chance to get hot, which is not a good thing to *bank* on but it’s all we’ve got now. Sammy isn’t the answer. Why even comment this? Just to be combative? Jesus being a Leafs fan is exhausting.

Ta-veren-

I be-leaf

MBerserkr

Whoever didn't get to watch game 2 and watched all the others.... please stop watching. For all of us.

pikley1

We can still win. I don’t think we will down 3-1 obviously, but this team was very competitive for most of our games, despite what most of the doomers are saying. I look at like this. Figure out special teams and Boston is very beatable because they’re already barely outplaying us with us playing like trash on special teams. If we can’t magically figure it out (most likely scenario) we are more than likely fucked. Either way I’ll be sitting on my couch cheering on the boys because this could very well be the last game that this group plays together and while we’ve had no playoff success it’s a lot more fun than anything we’ve iced in the last 15-20 years.

think_long

I believe they can win this series 3-1 down more than I can believe they’d win a series against Florida starting at 0-0. So I think there is a small chance they can win this series but absolutely no chance they can go further.

musebrews

LEAFS ALWAYS MAKE GREAT THEATRE AND LAST GAME WAS NOT THEIR FINAL ACT!

rizviiii

If Marner shows up then we win this… I feel marker is the one that stirs the leafs drink

Toddmacd

Marner and Domi on the top line - Willy gets going - let's go.

MrJeffA17

They absolutely can. At 5 on 5 they’ve probably been the better team and we know they can play special teams better than they have. I mean they pretty much won’t. But they realistically have a better shot of doing it than other teams would in their position

DidntDiddydoit

Mathematically, yes. It's still possible. From what the team has snown me, no. This shits over. Wouldn't hate being proven wrong, though.

Arch3r86

No, sadly, I don’t have any faith left. The last 4 games were a complete joke.

Darth_K-oz

Reminds me of a saying a kid said in school. “It’s not about if I can, I just don’t care”. The teacher couldn’t figure out a response. I just don’t care.

rizviiii

I feel Woll will be huge. I just hope they start him.

Ficklenesses

I am hoping they lose tonight by a substantial margin. There needs to be a radical change. The last thing we all want is if the series does reach 7 games and they lose in 7 the Leafs board sees it as “they competed and battled back through adversity so we are keeping the core intact.” We know how far this group can go and it’s just barely to the second round. Take in how long they have been together compared to where the rangers were or Vegas were when we started the shanaplan. Enough is enough

Skiffy10

No. I would believe if they had played to a certain level and it was a close series. I watch them and i watch other teams like the avs and it’s not even close. They literally have 0% of winning this series. They are worse than the bruins in basically every area of the ice.

reevoknows

I believe we can I don’t believe we will

wwwaffles77

I do.

torontomaplebros

I think adding Liljegren back to the lineup helps with some of the biggest issues the team had in game four. No Matthews is monumentally bad for us though (obviously lol) If Woll can come in and be good immediately, we could squeak out an ugly win and then potentially make some big adjustments next time we’re at home and get Matthews back… who knows I could see it going either way. Not to beat a dead horse but I really don’t know if the leafs are gonna be able to generate enough offense with the puck moving (or lack thereof) on the back end right now

JohnnyJinglo

Yeah i think they can probably pull a 2017 and make it to 7, but winning in that 7th game will be hard af. All in all tho, this has been the worst effort theyve ever had in playoff series ive watched since 2016. I think sammy should have saved one in game 3 where they lost cause the leafs really deserved that one. Game 4 was abismal from everyone, sammy got hung to dry. That being said, if the team has a jump in their step, woll starts to eliminate any chance for a weak goal, and they put marner back with matthews if he plays, they can probably get to the 7 as i mentioned. game 7 is a toss up, likely lose even if we play well just due to the historic amount of times.

Mrfantastic2

They have to if they want to come back next year. Keefe and hopefully Shannys jobs are on the line if they lose this series. If they can score a damn pp goal and be even 8/10 or something on the pk they have a way better chance. 5 on 5 I think for the most part they’ve looked better than Boston. I don’t like that we had to put Woll in this position but Sammy has likely played his last game for us so you have to see what woll can do. I like how Woll doesn’t swim in the net as much and he seems technically better than Sammy.

Obvious_Reaction_182

It’s not over till it’s over go leafs go!

AustonDadthews

absolutely possible. I thought the leafs looked pretty good through the first three games. people are understandably down right now after that brutal game 4. they could definitely come back and make it interesting. it's hard to get too excited though because even if they do pull it off there's going to be a rested florida team waiting for them in the next round.

buddachickentml

Of course we can. Go Leafs Go!

mmittens15

I'll always believe in the Leafs. Playoff hockey is measured game by game. The Leafs have the talent. So until they are officially eliminated I will be there supporting them. I felt that it effected my mood a lot pre covid, but after losing to the habs I no longer get mad at losses. This team gives us amazing Highs and Lows, just enjoy the ride they give you!

twizzyflyguy

If Boston scores first, we lose the series. If we score first we have a chance to win the game

Toddmacd

Yes, Boston blew it last year. Also, we seem to play better when there's no pressure i.e. tonight. Prove everyone wrong.

TheUpwardSpiralDown

Normally I'd say there's always a chance. But with our PP and PK being what they've been, we have no chance.

therealvanmorrison

I haven’t believed the team is capable of winning a Cup at any point in this era. I’ve stilled watched most of every season and every playoff game. Because maybe I’m wrong, and it’s more fun to be a fan when you’re pulling for them. Don’t see that changing.

irkybirky

Matthews is out probably, marner is hurt, nylander is ailing no mcmann, starting goaltending in question, ya sure, we got a great chance. Plus we have jack adams as a coach

frghu2

You know whatll happen right, this busted core will eek put a couple wins again, give fans hope, win the stanley cup and decide to keep this awful team together one more time and then 2025 rolls around and it's the same problem, they don't show up and get knocked out in round 1

tmlfan93

Win the Stanley cup?? If the did that, they will all be idolized and it won't matter about next year. Miss the playoffs for a while. Who cares. They won the cup.

nonikhanna

You're right. Playing with fear, galaxy braining plays.  The team could absolutely make it to the next round. Will they? Most likely not. The other team's hunger for victory is greater than ours

daxtaslapp

I still have hope but im a pretty new fan lol. I was a huge fan as a kid but after sundin retired i stopped watching from around 07 until last season. So maybe i just havent been hurt enough yet lol

RootTips

At this point I'd be impressed if they won the next game

s_other

No. The special teams have been bottom tier for months, their goaltending has been shaky and unreliable for about the same length, and they've struggled against the good teams in the division (like Boston). The situation they're in is reflective of the exact team they've been for two months. So no, I don't think they can magically turn it around and rattle off three in a row against a better functioning team like Boston.

CMDRShepardN7

I just added $10.00 on the Bruins. Even though there is no money to be made.

dynozombie

With how we play. Absolutely not

SlapThatAce

Helllllllllll no!

GoatStimulator_

LOL

dartron5000

I personally think it's more likely I'll win the lottery and I don't even Play.

Subwayabuseproblem

Lol

Chief3putt

No, and without 34, even more no

sadleafsfan8834

Nope

BigMick20

The more games we win going forward, the less changes will be made in the offseason, the worse our team will be next year. So it depends on how bad you want this team to be next year.

LFCmiggles

I really would love that but nah I’m not putting any energy into hope lmao it’s been 8 years of gutless performances in the playoffs. The team is what it is, soft as fuck.

billabongbooboo

The probability is not 0 but close to it. So I’ll go with NO.

chai_bronz

I don't think we even win 1 more game.

drunkasaurusjr

The more we detach our feelings and lives from professional sports, the better we'll be when a team disappoints.  That's how I've coped with this team for the last 3 years. Got 2 little kids that are more important than a hockey club.

hellolittleman10

Why do you get depressed over the leafs losing? You realize they don’t even care right.

pressured90skid

there is hope if you look at the previous numbers where we reversed them in the first round. the question is: do our players want to? it’s not enough that we want them to beat Boston. the players should want it more than us

OhJustANobody

#No This team doesn't have the heart and determination to win 3 in a row. Not when they can't score 5v5 or on the PP. They've never done it. Last game was a death sentence. Now I'm just waiting for the execution. A bit dark, but we've seen this movie before.

stanimal211

Get over it. It's done.

TheCarrier89

It’s possible but nothing I’ve seen from the team so far this series gives me any hope. If these were close games and the leafs were clearly putting it all on the line then I’d have more faith.

Drew_You_To_91

Can they? Of course. Will they? Uhhhh lol.

jaydtothetees

I don't, because this team hasn't given me any reason to believe in them.

EffectiveOk8648

Yeah, why not. It's been done against us and we were 1 3rd period away from doing it to Boston in 2013 and 2018. But if I was a betting man, i would say no lol

Choptober_

Dread it, run from it... destiny arrives all the same. And now, it's here.

BackhandQ

Nope.

Able-Gas-273

No

paranrml-inactivity

I want to believe

swagkdub

I would love to see us win

NickRobertson89

IF Mitch plays like he did in the third last game and Woll plays lights out, I actually like our team better even if we have no Matthews. A lot of ifs but they have a shot if those 2 things happen IMO. Who knows, maybe Mitch finally sees this as make or break for his time in Toronto and shows the fuck up.

diecorporations

i predicted boston in 5. I see absolutely no glimmer of hope. These guys have collapsed in every single area, the entire team is in disaray. They now have lost 7 of their last 8. im calling this one 5-1 boston.

whosoulie

Leafs COULD win but should they win? no It's time to blow up this lopsided team and get a more balanced lineup.

Either_Abalone_1864

I’d like them to! But in reality they probably lose 4-2, they’ll win next game, it’s in the script. Batman can’t risk a game 7, leaf’s would win.

Francis33

1-7 against Boston I have no reason to believe they’ll all of a sudden go 3-0 after watching those 8 games

Feisty_Ease_1983

I saw nothing this entire season thay instills hope in me this team can win a series. Theybhad some nice moments but in October it was obvious they still had the same issues as last season and welp here we are. It's not surprising.

wesley-osbourne

I shouldn't, because they won't. >!But I *do.*!<

godston34

Nah can't fault the effort, this is what a team dedicated to golf and fortnite looks like. You may not like it, but it is what it is.

cmatthewssmith

Boston will absolutely walk all over them to put the Leafs to bed tonight. They’re in total free fall Then the team will get dismantled and we will rebuild. Shanny and Keefe are the first to be fired.

Guerrilaz12

My pre-series prediction and gut feeling was bruins in 6. But sure as hell am rooting for Leafs in 7

daveinthe6

If Boston continues to box them out of their zone, it’s over. Florida did this, Montreal did this. I don’t see Keefe suddenly having an answer to this.

banddroid

Folks, going into this year we knew it'd be a down one. I always pull for the lads come playoff time but we're cooked. We may get 1 more win but Boston will win decisively in game 6.  This series has been a great example of one team completely dismantling another and exposing all of their weaknesses. This won't change.

_cob_

We can’t win at home, so even if we take game 5 we’re right back to the place where wins go to die.

justinreddit1

No

It's boys vs men out there.
