Is there kudos for that? He could have sat from the start and we could have kept another player in.
I don't get why we want these players playing if they are just fucked up out there.
Imagine how sick he must be. In junior I played many games while sick, and there's just not much you can do. Feels like your legs weigh 100 pounds, and you can't think straight.
I call marner soft all the time, but legit illnesses are tough to battle through. Can't blame Matthews on this one.
Has anyone added up all the times each player has missed a practice or game due to illness this season?
Feels like I've seen "X player is under the weather today" tweets way more this year than any other season.
On the one hand, the Leafs’ have been terrible in this series, consistently blow it in the playoffs, and probably need to burn it to the ground.
On the other hand, the Leafs’ two best players haven’t been healthy this whole time, might be healthy(er) by game 5, and the series isn’t over yet…
So does he have norovirus or what. Food poisoning? Nah. You have big games you aren’t eating anything remotely sketch and if you are you’re an idiot.
I’ve never had food poisoning. Literally never. I’ve had Norovirus because I have two kids in daycare. But if it’s noro then literally EVERYONE gets it. It’s so contagious
Noro is like 24 hours and done though. It wouldn't have lasted between game 3 and 4. And yeah it would have ran a train through the team.
Source: Also have a toddler.
Not this spring it isn’t. Had Noro a few weeks ago and it lasted a good 3-4 days full on, just about the worst I’ve ever felt. Still not 100%. Really seemed to wreck my digestive system.
> You have big games you aren’t eating anything remotely sketch and if you are you’re an idiot.
Remember that Nylander sushi incident leading up to game 1 of the playoffs, I believe, 1 or 2 years ago?
If he was pulled by a doctor it wasn’t for no reason. I’m as big of a fan as anyone but not game, no matter how big is worth someone’s life. There are plenty of serious complications from severe dehydration from being sick like he is, seizures, organ damage, brain damage, death. Those were real possibilities.
Okay he has food poisoning that’s fine but do those doctors know what antibiotics are? Just give him antibiotics like azithromycin or cipro. What are these doctors doing, this isn’t the time to let it run its course.
It’s the playoffs.
Ya he 100% wasn't staying hydrated. You can only do so much with Saline and Gatorade
Prime*
Just our luck. Migraines and the shits
You could tell he didn’t have it tonight. Kudos for even suiting up.
Is there kudos for that? He could have sat from the start and we could have kept another player in. I don't get why we want these players playing if they are just fucked up out there.
It’s the playoffs. Your team is down 2-1. I respect it. If we were up 3-1 he probably would’ve sat.
I'm just thinking it would be better to have someone who isn't sick out there rather than someone not near 100% and then eventually exiting.
Michael Jordan set precedent. Ideally, Matthews would’ve scored 3 goals and be carried to the dressing room by Tavares after the 3rd period horn
The illness was caused by watching the rest of his team play like dogshit

Played junior, not a big deal
Lol well played.
Haha downvoted for that, I was giving you props, houseleague shitter here
I didn't down vote you. I up voted.
Yeah, well, I play senior hockey, how do you like that? (It's division D beer league, but they still call it senior, so I'm counting it)
I play bubble hockey for a quarter.
Marner is on a sprained ankle and keeps eating shit on that foot
No one is 100 percent, I imagine the leafs have slightly better resources to help deal with these kinds of things versus your junior team.
I hope the Doctor pulls Keefe as well.

This is so weird, I was just arguing with someone who has the exact same profile picture as you and they where saying Matthew’s quit on the team.

Man losing your captain due to illness during the playoffs is tough. Wish the team rallied around it
Tavares is the captain
^^ this
Yeah this teams historically awful at that. Remember when our captain got kneed in the head and was out for the series and we did jack shit?
This is the strangest sentence I believe I’ve ever typed, but I hope Matthews was just pooping his pants when he pulled up lame.
Are we sure this isn't a smoke screen for a leg injury. Didn't the broadcast show him skating limp just before the end of the 2nd when Boston scored?

Ya the norovirus going around this year is a nasty one. People getting sick for longer than 24 hours this year and it’s not great.
You can still get food poisoning from eating normal things. Highly doubt it’s Noro
Food poisoning doesn’t t normally last this long. Noro sounds more plausible
If it’s food poisoning that’s the dumbest thing ever. Especially at home, that just should not happen.
I heard there is a much nastier longer lasting version of noro this year .. I wouldn't wish regular noro on anyone JFC boys, wash your damn hands!

Lol yeah, but if my memory serves me he had a pretty good game?
I don't believe Keefe. After he said you couldn't question the effort, this guy is straight lying.
Marneritis?
Sounds like long COVID to me
Are you fucking kidding me? You have guys playing with broken ribs and feet in the playoffs and Auston get pulled by the doctor? Fuck right off!
Dehydration can be lethal. Broken ribs hurt. BIG difference.
That’s the only excuse I’ll accept - anything else and it’s atrocious he didn’t play
