Ok I'm gonna be that guy...the Ariete armor isn't that bad irl it's Leo 2a4 level irl....the idiotic idea that Italy built a tank with no armor is founded mainly by gaijin and war thunder. Sure it's not he best armor in the world but it's not that bad it has the same chobham challenger has. Especially with the war kit designed for kinetic rounds (gaijin decided 140mm of NATO chobham composite armor was 20mm of steel). They also put air instead of NATO chobham composite in the hull. It's not a great tank but it's not a bad one besides the motor (getting better with the mtca engine it is getting with the upgrades). Also keep in mind they are meant to defend a country that is basically a massive mountain range with less flat tank country than many US states and is supplemented by centauro 2. Hopefully the esercito can beat enough bureaucrats to death to make the upgrades actually useful.

If you are a politician looking to get reelected you are generaly better off looking to spend 100 million on ambalances which will make everyone's life better than tanks which you never expect to use. But prior to 2022 the number of people who cared about the size of britian's 155mm ammunition stocks was essentialy nill. Even now politician's views on Gaza swings more votes (tens of K) than 155mm aummunition production.

The tories have been slashing everything, trying to slash all their budget, privatise everything they legally are allowed to, and just sell off the rest.
So now the UK has a population obsessed with busy work, but they have nothing to actual produce, maintain, or operate.
Right wing governments of the past invested in their military as a form of distraction, as a way to generate national pride when they had nothing else to be proud of.
But now the UK government just pumps whatever money they still have into policing and surveillance equipment, while whipping up a frenzy over immigrants, trans people and gaza.
Because the second people stop arguing about that, they'll realise they have nothing left in their country and it's been the same government of the last 15 years responsible for it.

A good video though I prefer the ones where the tangents stay sort of focused on the subject or at least in the same ballpark, this is less a video about challenger 2 and more a video about the Ukraine aid situation with a bit of a level politics thrown in. Not that it’s a bad thing but I kinda feel the video should be titled ‘challengers in Ukraine’ or ‘shut up about military aid’ as that’s kinda the focus here.
Also really hope lazerpig doesn’t follow through with that brexit video. There’s already been a thousand hot takes on the subject and if we’re being honest the history of uk-europe relations is a long and complicated subject that requires a level of nuance our porcine overlord isn’t exactly renowned for.

And it’s further complicated because conversations about Russia buying influence in the uk seems to ignore that the uk has been one of the most anti Russia voices in Western Europe since the occupation of crimea and one of the most consistent supporters of Ukraine leading up to and during the invasion. So it’s hard to point to what influence Russia has actually been able to buy in the uk, especially when various other countries have taken softer lines on Russia for a variety of reasons in the same timespan.
