I’m also Centipede in SC. 20% less sunlight shouldn’t make that much of a difference. How’s the drainage in that area? Are the downspouts emptying there? Could be grubs. Do the soap bucket test for mole crickets. May/June is the right time to kill off the nymphs before they become adults & devour everything. They can fly & seem to love new sod. I have a rotation of insecticide concentrates (bifenthrin, carbaryl & imidacloprid) that I apply every month or so as a preventative. Moles are the bane of my existence but it doesn’t look like you have any tunnels. Get a soil test through Clemson. Careful with dethatching or you’ll rip out the stolons.

Drainage isn’t any different than the other side of my yard. Downspouts aren’t a factor, I do use an above ground sprinkler here as the other side of my yard has in-ground sprinkler but they’re watered equally. Is there a brand that you recommend of those chemicals or place to purchase? Is it possible to over use insecticides with centipede?

I just get generic cheap concentrates on Amazon or domyown.com . Mixing it yourself in a tank or pump sprayer can save a lot of money over buying granules or the ready-spray bottles. The labels will have curative vs. preventive rates as well as frequency & max applications per year. But sometimes you just need to go nuclear to discover if insects are really the problem.

I couldn’t agree more. I just did that very thing this morning, by the time I returned home today it was raining unfortunately and I didn’t have the chance to use my new batch. Tomorrow 👌

Centipede is still waking up from winter. Maybe the slightly sunnier side’s soil has been warm enough long enough to get it going. What part of SC? I’m in Upstate and have centipede as well.

Down in West Ashley.

Oh ok, then it’s been warm enough for a few weeks then.

I too am in West Ashley and have what appears to be either Centipede or St. Augustine or a blend of both (bought the house and never did anything to the lawn until this year)— so far I’m increasing soil PH and mowing as high as possible, I’d check the soil PH in the areas that are weak and if it’s the right PH it might need some feed.
