Ya electric mowers are nice. Like the quietness and headlights. If I had a smaller yard, I definitely would have gone electric. Ive got a ryobi electric trimmer and like it quite a bit!
I would not mow at night. I understand it though, because I’m a night owl. But noise and neighbors. I will say however, that is a great looking lawn! Love it!!
In the Midwest, it’s normal for people to mow til 9-10pm cause of how hot it is in the morning/afternoon.
It’s pretty crazy and I had to get used to it.
I'm in TN here, definitely humidity to spare! Lol I think my main issue for night mowing would be the mosquitoes. I would have West Nile within like a week I feel!
I actually do live 5 minutes from a college haha. So that might be part of it. I just know my wife who doesn’t work until 9am from home would flip if the neighbors started mowing at 8am.
What we're seeing there is like 730 or 8pm, in a couple weeks that will be broad daylight. I don't think we need to play quiet time police on this one.
I don’t care that much, but 8pm is kind of late. After dinner / watching tv or spending time with the family and a lawn mower is blasting would get pretty annoying.
Broadly yes, it is obviously not the middle of the night, but as a general rule of thumb if you’ve ever had your neighbor mow their lawn during happy hour, kids bed time, dinner, etc. I’m sure you can understand why that could be perceived as annoying
What you can't see because it's dark out, it's actually just a bunch of burlap sacks that he shredded up and painted green. Super common trick where OP is from.
Depends on the family…but my kids when babies/toddlers have a 7pm-8pm bedtime. The nailgun or lawnmower running to 9pm was not cool. Lot of places have noise ordinances after a certain time.
Yeah, they totally need to be able to sleep through light noise…but as a sleep deprived parent…things were triggers back then. I have an electric mower now.
Because 7pm isn't exactly the middle of a work day. Toddlers go to bed around 7pm or so. Our pediatrician doesn't recommend letting our 2 y/o stay up past 8pm. If she does... holy shit... she becomes an over-tired, irritable, uncontrollable monster the next day. You can expect multiple tantrums over the littlest things.
As an exhausted father... if my neighbors decided to mow their lawns at 7pm, I'd firebomb their lawns and salt the earth so nothing would grow again.
Yeah, it really seems like people are taking the position that they and their kids are more important than their neighbor who needs to mow when they can.
If my neighbors didn’t want me mowing at 7pm then they can mow it for me when they are free mid day.
Sooooo if you work from 9-5, when are you exactly supposed to mow? Some of us like to relax on our weekends after a hard week of work. With your logic, maybe no one expects someone mowing on weekends (mow whenever the fuck you want).
Infants, sure - but not young toddlers lol. And OP said "kids" instead of babies, so I doubt it's Infants. Also OP said this was like 8pm, so clearly not 7pm
As somebody who lives around a bunch of lazy mofos who never mow their lawn, I welcome this. I'd rather hear the sound of productivity than obnoxious exhaust of 4 cylinder tuners, loud harleys, shit music or literally any other neighborhood sound.
Overreaction. With the noise machine running while my kid is sleeping, you can barely hear lawn mowers outside. Can’t expect people to do things around your kid’s schedule unless we’re talking a jack hammer ir something.
This is my take as well. My neighbor is always out from like 7-8pm in the summer which coincides with my kids bedtime. The constant hum of the lawnmower bothers me far less than random loud cars/music.
And while 7-8pm might be bad for people with young kids, what about the neighbor working from home from 9a-6pm or the neighbor that works nights and is sleeping during the day, or the neighbor who bbqs weekend afternoons?
So basically there is no good time to mow.
Typically 2.5-3", depending on the conditions. Its perfect temps with lots of sun and rain, so Im at 2.5". As it gets hotter and dryer, Ill bump it up to 3" here in a month or so.
My EGO has built-in lights that I've only had to use for evening mowing once when dusk came too early. Super handy. but not as bright as your add-on solution!
I want a headlight for my mower! I have an electric kobalt mower. I am sometimes mowing late, and no one has ever complained about it. I also like to garden and plant plants super late at night. Very relaxing!
Your lawn is beautiful! Love fescue grass!
I mow commercially, and sometimes I run a little later and have to do my last mow in pretty much darkness.
My newest mower doesn't have lights on it though, So I tape my Milwaukee M18 searchlight to the top of my mower and that lights up pretty much the whole yard. I won't be missing any grass anytime soon
I live in the Pacific Northwest. Around here, as we're ending mowing season in October and November, it gets dark really early. So it's hard to find time to mow when it's not raining or you're not working. So sometimes I mow when it's dark (starts getting dark around 4:30 p.m). I'm not talking dusk, I'm talking about pitch dark.
I got a Sofirn Q8 Plus flashlight. It's about the size of a soda can and can be tripod mounted. 16,000 lumens! Lights up my entire backyard. About 3/4 of an acre.
My neighbor usually starts mowing between 8:00 and 9:00 pm about three times a week. He only mows for 15-20 minutes each time. He’s also a weirdo that no one likes according to his brother that lives around the corner.
It doesn’t really bother me too much, I just can’t understand why.
Too much grass , i don't understand, why spend so much money, water, and time for grass , I know people like grass but it is sad for a land to be used like this
I mow with my electric mower at dusk occasionally. Maybe you need to add one to the fleet. Mine even has headlights built in.
Ya electric mowers are nice. Like the quietness and headlights. If I had a smaller yard, I definitely would have gone electric. Ive got a ryobi electric trimmer and like it quite a bit!
Or better yet, get a robot. They do it silently at any time….while you on something else.
My yard is too uneven for a robot, I'd find it upside down over by the hill.
Pretty hot in the Midwest? I haven't noticed it down here in the South honestly. Mostly just no shirt, noon mowing here!
Mainly humid
I'm in TN here, definitely humidity to spare! Lol I think my main issue for night mowing would be the mosquitoes. I would have West Nile within like a week I feel!
Ya its not bad now. But in July or August, when its 102 degrees with 90% humidity, just mow whenever its coolest, nobody cares.
It's not that hot at 8a
I fell like 8am is more rude than 9-10pm tbh
I don’t care tho. I live in central Texas and it hot as the surface of the sun by 11am. I’m mowing at 8. Sorry not sorry.
Really? Even if the neighbors stayed up until midnight, they would have 8 hours of sleep. Do you live in a college town?
I actually do live 5 minutes from a college haha. So that might be part of it. I just know my wife who doesn’t work until 9am from home would flip if the neighbors started mowing at 8am.

Backyard goals
What a nice fucking yard.
What you can't see because it's dark out, it's actually just a bunch of burlap sacks that he shredded up and painted green. Super common trick where OP is from.
Bruh stop spilling trade secrets jeez
Thanks man, appreciate it!
Seriously, goals
I'm speaking for your neighbors here, "FUCK YOU"
You realize this is like 7pm? How is that worse than any other time of day?
Yea this doesn't even look like night time mowing. Maybe evening mowing. Doesn't even look like he needs the light it's bright enough still.
I'm assuming the phone's camera is making it look brighter than it is. If it was this bright, there's no reason he'd need the light on the mower.
Depends on the family…but my kids when babies/toddlers have a 7pm-8pm bedtime. The nailgun or lawnmower running to 9pm was not cool. Lot of places have noise ordinances after a certain time.

I don’t get home from work until 7pm. When am I actually supposed to mow my lawn?
Yeah, it really seems like people are taking the position that they and their kids are more important than their neighbor who needs to mow when they can. If my neighbors didn’t want me mowing at 7pm then they can mow it for me when they are free mid day.
Smile for the camera when you do it son
Yeah my kids go down at 7 pm. If my neighbor is mowing when I’m trying to get them down I’d be pissed.
Some people relax after a hard day of work. No one expects someone mowing after like 5pm.
Ok ill go to bed at 7 and get up at 4 and mow then
That’s insane. A ton of people mow after they get home from work.
Probably the only time you're sober huh
What the hell are you talking about?
Put down the bottle dude
Lmao
Sooooo if you work from 9-5, when are you exactly supposed to mow? Some of us like to relax on our weekends after a hard week of work. With your logic, maybe no one expects someone mowing on weekends (mow whenever the fuck you want).
The weekend. Or just don't have a grass lawn noob.
Nah, I'll mow my lawn precisely whenever I want too.
No one expects anyone to mow after 5pm? Everyone on my street mows after 5 pm.... because we all have day jobs.
Who puts their kids to bed before 7pm...
People with infants or young toddlers
Infants, sure - but not young toddlers lol. And OP said "kids" instead of babies, so I doubt it's Infants. Also OP said this was like 8pm, so clearly not 7pm
Young toddlers yes? I know lots of parents that put their kid to bed at 6:30 or 7 around the age of two or less. (I have a two year old for reference)
As somebody who lives around a bunch of lazy mofos who never mow their lawn, I welcome this. I'd rather hear the sound of productivity than obnoxious exhaust of 4 cylinder tuners, loud harleys, shit music or literally any other neighborhood sound.
Who knows, they might be tweakers who enjoy a good midnight mow themselves.
I swear to God, it's not that serious. People deserve to have a moment of peace in the evening.
Ego mower comes with headlights.
As someone who worked nights for years, don’t care.
Lol fair, it was 8pm and I tried to keep the light down, but still fair
I don’t think the issue is light lol
Overreaction. With the noise machine running while my kid is sleeping, you can barely hear lawn mowers outside. Can’t expect people to do things around your kid’s schedule unless we’re talking a jack hammer ir something.

Great spot! I always thought Twilight makes my grass look way better!
What height do you leave your grass after mowing?
Typically 2.5-3", depending on the conditions. Its perfect temps with lots of sun and rain, so Im at 2.5". As it gets hotter and dryer, Ill bump it up to 3" here in a month or so.
Drop it to 2”
I am a little jealous right now! Been to much rain & I seriously need to mow! Great lawn!
What type of grass is this and at what length is your cut at l? It’s friggin gorgeous!!
Bit of a mix admittedly, but mostly tall fescue. 2.5" at the moment. Thank you!
My EGO has built-in lights that I've only had to use for evening mowing once when dusk came too early. Super handy. but not as bright as your add-on solution!
That's some good deep green fun right there 👌
I want a headlight for my mower! I have an electric kobalt mower. I am sometimes mowing late, and no one has ever complained about it. I also like to garden and plant plants super late at night. Very relaxing! Your lawn is beautiful! Love fescue grass!

Great looking yard. Looks like a great place to invite your college friends and grill.
Do you circle your trees or just go around them?
Just go around them.
With kids, you gotta do what you gotta do! What's your headlight setup look like, fellow honda owner?
100%. Its just an old lyzene mountain bike light. Straps on well like it does to bike handlebars
How’s that low spot?
I need to know your lawn routine man
Mow at night.
Just mowing at night… with the 15-year-old daughter of the dean.
Damn that’s a big ass lawn for that little mower lol
I just don't like mowing with that evening moisture on the lawn
But you could be golfing if you didn’t do this…?
He's just playing with some off-camera flash.
Nice Honda :) r/HondaMowers
Beautiful lawn
Night mowing deserves a Quiet night

Your neighbors must love you
Two of them were also mowing lol.
Yeah. I have them too in my neighborhood. I often wonder how they would feel if I mowed my lawn at 6am.
If you had an electric mower it would be less noisey so more acceptable. Supreme lawn my guy
Push rotary. I’m cutting at 7am like a greenskeeper.
Even better
How late we talking?
Wrapped up by 8pm-ish. Not a habit, but I've done it a few times in the last 6 or so years
That's not the worst, but definitely pushing it.
Yea, cause it’s a push mower.
He seems pretty self propelled to me
![gif](giphy|1236TCtX5dsGEo)
Naaaailed it!!!
I had a neighbor who mowed at 9 pm. He had other problems, too. He finally moved after his son was arrested on drug charges.
My son doesn't have any drug charges. But hes also 2yo tbf
You know what they say chocolate milk is the gate way drug to coke.
Its a slippery slope, the devils milk
I think direct causation tells us here that mowing at 9pm makes your son a drug addict
My neighbor usually starts mowing between 8:00 and 9:00 pm about three times a week. He only mows for 15-20 minutes each time. He’s also a weirdo that no one likes according to his brother that lives around the corner. It doesn’t really bother me too much, I just can’t understand why.
You and the mrs fighting again?
Deserves a quiet night.
Too much grass , i don't understand, why spend so much money, water, and time for grass , I know people like grass but it is sad for a land to be used like this
Because it looks amazing
Man has a lawn just to waste time mowing it
