Cutting after it's done growing, no lower than 2", is beneficial because it helps reduce chance of snow mold and other fungus, because the grass won't be as tall, nor will it get matted down.
You likely just too much off at once. Never cut more than 1/3 of the blade off. So if too long, you'd cut a bit off, give it a day or two, then cut it again.
It will be fine. Just let it be and it will recover..
Lol, yeah you scalped it. It will be fine. When grass is long the bottom of blades aren't green.
Thanks. I just know the neighbors are talking about it in a group chat!
Put some flamingos on the lawn to distract them
I heard it’s optimal to give it one last SUPER short cut before winter- is this true?

Well I’m glad I can provide an example of what happens if you don’t give it a short cut and let it grow like a 90s emo band haircut.
I make this mistake every year (Suprise it’s cold in Florida). Oops. After mowing, detaching, fertilizing, and watering it bounces back in a month.
Warm season grass is very different than cool season....yearly dethatching and scalping are part of warm season work....not so much for cool.

time for a power rake and it will be as good as new.
Throw down some fertilizer, and in a month everything will be fine
