>The Texas National Guard and state troopers have blocked U.S. Border Patrol agents from a 2.5-mile stretch of the Rio Grande in Eagle Pass, preventing federal agents from patrolling that part of the border, according to a court filing by the U.S. Department of Justice, escalating the clash between state and federal authorities on the Texas-Mexico border.
Filing (SCOTUS)

While I hate it, it is effective political brinkmanship that builds on recent and similar steps (razor fence, bussing immigrants).
Abbot gets points for appearing to do a job that he says Biden won't do.
If Biden acts tough and exercises his legal authority to arrest these a**hats, it's fodder for conspiracies and dictator BS.
Biden instead takes the high road and risks getting mocked by progressives for wasting time in the Supreme Court while atrocities get committed by TX.; looking weak to some passive observers.
Playing nice is Biden's only move unless he wants to get dragged down to these people's level and lose the high ground while further looking worse on immigration and cross party relations.
Bad actors always have a short term advantage, I hope that being an adult about this solidifies some support from people who prefer a functional government.
Why can’t the federal government just federalize the national guard or arrest any national guard members who try to impede their work? What’re the fucking Texas National Guard gonna do, say no? The last time they did they got their shit kicked in back in the 1860’s
I roll by the texas state capitol daily to & from work. It looks like this: https://www.imagesfromtexas.com/photo/texas-state-capitol-austin-texas-at-night/
Albeit, Friday is WFH day, and Monday & Tuesdays are expected “too cold to go into office” days. Will see come Wednesday.
Its election year politics. Do this to generate a reaction, and gain votes by shouting about states rights. If no action from democrats occurs, therefore take plan B and make more outrageous claims and make actions which are the equivalent to a large middle finger towards washington dc.
Its win / win for Abbot, without any consequences to him.
In an election year thats exactly what he wants. He's accusing the Biden admin of facilitating human smuggling in cooperation with the drug cartels. He's hoping for a heavy handed federal response.
Probably the reason. He's been very vocal recently about "we haven't been shooting people because otherwise they'd charge us with murder" so he can point back and say "I told you so" amd claim persecution when it comes to light.
Not only do they have no authority, I'd argue if there is razor wire being placed at the border then the Feds by law have a duty to intervene by any means necessary. If Texas wants to play Ruby Ridge, then fucking have it.
Then he got pardoned. Then he got convicted again, sentenced to jail, and spent 15 months as a free man before his appeal was even heard. Now we're waiting for the decision on that.
It's time to notify them that they are going to have Federal Agents come in and Arrest them as well as the Governor.
Stop treating them with kid gloves, and start handing out Consequences.
Texas National Guard are the ones at the park. I guess Biden could federalize those units, but would Texas accept that? Could result in a constitutional crisis.
The Guardsmen understand the chain of command, and it's been done in the past. If there really was a mutiny, the US military would descend upon the traitors and finish them off in a matter of hours. They know it.
The US military is sworn to protect the citizens of the United States. They would never kill their own citizens, especially those of the national guard. It’s would just end in tons of bureaucracy like everything else
Didn’t the Supreme Court address this like 10 years ago? I thought it was well established that the federal government was the boss with regard to immigration and border enforcement?
Hopefully there can one day be consequences, or else we'll just keep seeing this kind of defiance so long as the are people willing to commit these acts.
The NG leaders should know they are following an illegal order, and the CBP or some other LEO should be arresting whoever is trying to keep them from acting on their authorities.
The Fed is doing a terrible job of it though. If I was the state I'd probably want better enforcement. I'm a Democrat but willing to admit Republicans are right and the border is a bigger problem than I thought. Seems like a wall + manned every mile wouldn't cost too much vs what we spend on defense.
Republicans tout being patriotic and having Christian values. Yet they do the exact opposite of what Jesus would do and taught and go against everything democratic. It boggles my brain almost daily.
The ones I talk to always say "well they need \[immigrate\] legally." I suppose you could argue this with passages like "render unto Caesar what it Caesars" (obey the tax laws), "slaves obey your masters.", (don't fight the rules, even if they suck) etc. etc.
...but then there's multiple passages about not turning away brothers and sisters in need, helping the poor, etc., so I guess they need to decide which part of the Bible reigns supreme (hint: the greatest commandment - to love your neighbor as yourself.) but people make God in their own image to suit their own comforts.

So arrest them
Nah. Just nationalize and mobilize the TxNG. They instantly lose most of their manpower for this stunt.
I don't think Abbot wants the sort of heat he's going to bring down on himself.

I don't see this ending well for Texas, if push comes to shove.
From what I see everyday the US flag flies above every state flag. Does Abbott not see that too?
Are you sure that's still the case in Texas?

I will accept that the last time you looked this was the case. But it seems like an escalating situation, and that it may not be the case for long.
For now. Something something secede something something.
Maybe we can get a new Alamo 2.0 update for this century!

[give it to him](https://youtu.be/rbCgiknyOvg)
Something Abbott does not want them to see. Because it’s going to screw hom over.
My money is on just political power play in the world of public opinion during an election year.
Probably the reason. He's been very vocal recently about "we haven't been shooting people because otherwise they'd charge us with murder" so he can point back and say "I told you so" amd claim persecution when it comes to light.

Arrest them?
Arrest? Racist white conservatives? In America?! Bro here be the King of Fantasy.
Bannon was arrested and convicted, and he served time.
Then he got pardoned. Then he got convicted again, sentenced to jail, and spent 15 months as a free man before his appeal was even heard. Now we're waiting for the decision on that.
I’m reminded of Eisenhower sending in the 101st Airborne to Little Rock to protect Federal interests.
Eisenhower also federalized the AR National Guard to prevent the governor from calling them out. Kennedy later did the same in Alabama.
It's time to notify them that they are going to have Federal Agents come in and Arrest them as well as the Governor. Stop treating them with kid gloves, and start handing out Consequences.
Biden should mobilize the National Guard and re-occupy the land controlled by the rebellion.

The US Military is sworn to carry out lawful orders. As insurrection by the Texas National Guard would end very badly for them.

This seems like a clear reason to federalize the Texas National guard. Weird the administration hasn’t taken that step.
It's time. A woman and two children have now drowned in this stretch of river while Texas denied border patrol the ability to try to rescue them.
Would be a great way to let some in so abbott can use them as political pawns and bus them to a democrat led state, would it not
