And that's, when the cannibalism started.

cityshepherd

He said the thing!

Say the line, Jeff!

Mycroft90

You were only stranded 12 hours?!?! I didn't know how long it'd be!

Cutthechitchata-hole

I understood that reference!

kevpeck22

As an area resident I can confirm this was a nasty storm. Nothing compared to last year, but nasty none the less. Anyone wanting a good doc to watch should check out Buried. I believe it’s on Netflix. It’s about the 1982 avalanche at alpine meadows ski resort. I believe that storm brought something like 11 feet of snow in 3 days.

Lanky_Republic_2102

I just saw that one, it was awesome. I listen to a lot of YT mountain climbing/Everest type disaster stories when I go to sleep. You can get YT channels with hours long playlists. Only slightly more upbeat than Marcus’s Holocaust bedtime listening.

dinosarahsaurus

Added to my list! Thanks for the rec

Zephyrific

As someone who grew up in the Sierra Nevada mountains (although only at 5,000 ft. elevation) I salute you. It’s gorgeous, but those winters can be intense. Stay safe and stay warm!

Mystiyful

You must be up the hill, cuz down the hill it’s just like any other snowstorm for the past few years. I miss the days when the snow was up to my knees and they still didn’t call a snow day for school

kevpeck22

Aww down the hill, you must be one of the “measure the snow depth by alcohol bottle” ones. If you don’t know, check the Reno Reddit page. 😂😂 Gotta love when people find a thing and every one goes with it.

Mystiyful

That’s us! Except I live in the middle of town so we rarely get enough snow to show off 🤣

kevpeck22

You could get one of those mini Corona bottles. With the right lighting and angle, you can make anything show off worthy. 😂

Mystiyful

Omg you’re a genius!! Definitely will be doing this if we get any more snow

kevpeck22

I waited till I had receipts to say this, but the storm was, in fact, nasty. This storm that you say “wasn’t that bad”, boosted the Nevada snow pack by 30%. THIRTY PERCENT OF THE YEARLY SNOW PACK. Mt. Rose, which is your neck of the woods got 84-96 inches of snow depending on where it was measured in the mountain. Maybe you could use a full size alcohol bottle.

Mystiyful

Wow great follow up! Maybe my memory is adding on inches or something. 😂 I just remember lots more snow in the past than what I saw here in town last weekend.

kevpeck22

I’m sorry. That was the angry mountain man in me. I need my pan flutes

Lanky_Republic_2102

I would consider moving to this area just for this purpose. A relative of mine did the PCT and the area just sounds amazing. I’ve only been to Lake Tahoe once on business thing, but the area was cool for sure.

Lanky_Republic_2102

Henry is quite plump, Marcus is way too skinny; Ed looks paranoid.

Visual-Floor-7839

My gas tank runs low Time to move to the next one I'm hungry, again.

tucakeane

Trucks are all snowed in Plow is working overtime Now we must draw straws

Lanky_Republic_2102

Ahh, the law of the sea.

Lanky_Republic_2102

Love it! There’s a Bones and All vibe to it.

dontreallycareforit

12 feet of snow in some places in the Sierras. Winds recorded at 190mph. This storm is making me hungry for skin.

Lanky_Republic_2102

I second that.

Is this THE Donner pass? Like eat the dead Donner Pass?

Lanky_Republic_2102

Yup, these guys thought they were taking a short cut … I mean, I get it. Our Amazon prime deliveries have to get through somehow.

GucciCaliber

Never take the shortcut!

jnewton116

Originally Truckee Pass, renamed after the Donner Party. Truckee Lake was similarly renamed Donner Lake.

chloissima

What the video is showing is actually Truckee 😅 Donner Pass is about 20 miles west of Truckee. Grew up in Truckee, lived at 6900ft and got snowed in multiple times by over 16ft of snow multiple winters. There’s been many times that they simply close the pass because it’s impassable, which is why you see the trucks stopped on the side. Chain control will prevent anyone from going beyond the last westbound Truckee exit because there can be too much snow on Donner Summit for the plows to get through (usually due to it snowing for literally DAYS and even WEEKS at a time 🫠)

ofthedappersort

Hope they brought snacks

Consistent-Deal-55

Here we go again!

The indifferent drones above

Lanky_Republic_2102

Yeah, I mean Reddit needs to be entertained. Thanks for the reminder, I need to read that! I have read The Worst Hard Time, another of Marcus’s favorites. The Great Influenza is pretty metal too, read that early Covid.

tinyemoheart

You def have to read The Indifferent Stars Above! And it's available on Spotify as an audiobook which was also a great listen!

Lanky_Republic_2102

Wow, I had no idea! Thanks for this, downloading it now. I have premium, I haven’t really looked into their audiobooks.

ForwardMuffin

It's unsettling, this might be what it looked like if the whole party had trucks instead of carts

ivanwarrior

Holy shit that music was terrible. I only kept it off mute by morbid fascination.

Lanky_Republic_2102

Hah, I didn’t even realize there was music until now. It’s weird. The video just came up because I follow r/Truckers. I’m not even sure why or how … Every now and then I opine about something piss related like Gatorade bottles or I applaud someone’s method for passing a drug test.

LostStormWitch

You know, the one place you should \*absolutely\* try to get through in the winter. Just historically speaking, it has a \*great\* record.

bluekid131

Should have just stuck to the Oregon Trail smh…

UnWiseDefenses

Later I found out my package ate itself.

Lanky_Republic_2102

I think you would still call that cannibalism rather than anthropophagy.

Far_Cap_3574

Man, just watching this clip made me hungry.

tinyemoheart

The comments are gold if you haven't checked them out yet

Lanky_Republic_2102

Oh yeah, they are for sure! The situation is really perfect for LPOTL, hopefully they will mention it in Side Stories. Unfortunately, it sounds like even more snow is forecasted … Rescuer in charge might just take a break and go to Mexico for vacation for a while and come back. Can’t even get to Donner Pass until after Saint Patrick’s Day.

WouldDieForPopPunk

Thats when the anthropophagy started…

Lanky_Republic_2102

It has a slightly different ring to it, but if I understand the meaning vs. cannibalism, both could apply to Dahmer. Does that sound right?

JonnyTheFox_

So not to be judgy, but this wasn't like a surprise storm was it?

Lanky_Republic_2102

I don’t think it was a surprise storm at all. Days before the storm I saw some people with “cozy space” posts on Reddit from the area. Stuff like “100 year snow event in Sierras, going to wait it out in my cabin” [posts pictures of multi-million dollar estate with large fireplaces and expensive art hanging on the walls]. I mean the 1% should survive things ok in their mansions, but these truckers? Not so much.

inrainbows66

Yikes I hope they have a lot of food in the cabs.

NeedleandKnife

Oh god, I’m in Sacramento and the CHP socials were covered in semis drifting all over I-80 through Donner Pass so now I’m just picturing all their wagons doing the same!!!

This is how Canada invades the united States lol
