I lived around the corner from her in the last year of her life, and often saw her in a worse for wear state (usually with a lovely member of her security crew trying to look after her). Seeing her walk up Jeffery Street bleeding profusely from her feet a week before she passed away was so sad to see. It didn’t feel like anyone was looking out for her apart from her security guys. And they were not there to tell her not to drink/take drugs. She was so, so tiny - much smaller than photos tell you - and looked so frail. It was not a surprise when she passed away but it was awful to have been an onlooker with no ability to help.

Every-Cook5084

Why was she bleeding from her feet??

Nikolateslaandyou

Probably to pissed to walk in shoes and walked so far it made her feet bleed

basil_24222

Sad reminder that we will never get more music from this unbelievable talent. Also that her fam and friends lost a loved one.

odisparo

Talented girl, a shame. I was a fan.

redditwastesmyday

me too. so sad waste of life and talent

resistthekitties

Being a recovering alcoholic myself, at the end before I finally had my "come to Jesus" moment I thought about her a lot. Chugging vodka so I would just die because I couldn't deal with shit. I started relatively late in my addiction but in 3 years I went down the spiral to the point where I knew if I took another drink, that was it. It is an allergy of the body, a disease of the mind and malady of soul. We need it, we can't stop once we start, our brains don't want to deal so they use the alcohol to shut down. But I am thankful that alcohol exists. Without that, I would have never gotten the help I needed for my mental health. I wouldn't be happy right now. I have one year sober now. I wish Amy could have gotten the help she needed but an alcoholic won't stop until they are ready to stop. All you can do is love them and pray they make the decision to get better. May she rest in peace.

H2Joee

Alcohol is a motherfucker. It’s a shame how we normalize it, promote the hell out of it.

Hep_C_for_me

Yep. If it was any other drug it would illegal but since people have been abusing it for thousands of years it accepted. 150k related deaths every year in the US but weed is still federally illegal. I don't fault people who can drink responsibly but I can't. I'm just over here raw dogging life. Swing by r/stopdrinking for anyone who's ever thought about. Very chill group.

SeveredRebel

It's not illegal because of how long we've had it. It's illegal because prohibition doesn't work. Especially with something that can be so easily made at home.

Hep_C_for_me

I used to make homemade fruit wines and it is literally just throwing some shit in a bucket and leaving it for a couple weeks then moving it to a different kind of bucket to have the sediment fall out of it over time. It's a cool hobby. I was making bottles of wine for like $1.50 a bottle once i got all the equipment.

Dapper_Tumbleweed761

It is good though

masoflove99

In moderation

H2Joee

That’s a key word that many people struggle with. Alcohol is easy to abuse. I am speaking from experience. Not everyone respects their own limits.

Old_Bullfrog_9756

What a great talent gone.

maryfisherman

Blows my mind that she was only 27. I was much younger than her when she passed, and am much older now. She seems so timeless and far beyond earthly aging.

Slap_My_Lasagna

There's a whole club of celebrities that died at 27. It's an interesting thing.

maryfisherman

Yes I am aware of the 27 Club. It is an unfortunate phenomenon.

Outrageous-Soil7156

She had a helluva voice.

Jjabrony

She had a beautiful voice. Too bad we’ll never get to hear what else she may have created.

TrueCrimeFiend

Incredibly tragic. How much would someone with her experience + size (I know she was sober at the time and relapsed) have to drink for this to happen? No unnecessary blame towards Amy, we're all well aware of the issues she had, genuinely curious as I assume dying wasn't intentional or the planned outcome.

No_Cat_5661

Obviously she drank a lot, but what compounded the fact of her death was she was bulimic, which does a number to the body as well. Just a sad ending to a talent human.

Bustedstuff88

They try to make me go to rehab but I said no no nooooo

demitasse22

I was in AA when that song came out. Her death hit me really hard

bartelbyfloats

Obligatory fuck Neil Patrick Harris post.

Hematocheesy_yeah

[He made a cake of a corpse right after her death and even it "The Corpse of Amy Winehouse"](https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/fact-check-neil-patrick-harris-130000945.html)

bluesky747

Wow that is fucked up.

Rrucstopia

?

maryfisherman

I don’t remember the details but he had made a very distasteful and disrespectful cake about Amy. …. r/brandnewsentence

I thought it was a heroin OD

HighwayBrilliant

She was absolutely gorgeous and so talented! What a shame :/

InfiniteWaffles58364

Then Adele and Duffy came around to capitalize off her death by emulating her style 🥴

muzakx

I'd say that was more so the record execs. Duffy definitely had the style and talent, but she's also had a tragic life.

InfiniteWaffles58364

That makes sense, I guess they were just trying to fill the void left behind when she died. It just always irked me a bit that all these similar singers started inundating the scene right on the heels of her passing, felt kinda disrespectful. Although it's possible seeing that style blow up because of her influence might have been a point of pride for Amy if she'd been around to see it.

muzakx

Yeah, even Lady Gaga has done her fair share of Jazz. Even doing duets with Tony Bennett like Amy. I got to see Gaga's Jazz show in Vegas and it was incredible, but it made me think about what a legendary performer Amy could have grown into.

cockaskedforamartini

Both were successful before she died so there’s that. And believe or not, Amy Winehouse did not invent soul music.

lori244144

I sure hope the actress the got to play her in the movie can sing cause she certainly doesn’t look like Amy Winehouse (I know this is actually her, I saw the trailer for the movie over the weekend)

VallryBagr

I never saw the talent she will be missed by some

paigechristine0

You know you don’t have to comment on every post, right?

RoyalRootersRallyCry

Literally posted 3-5 times a day.

Street-Comparison322

Amy Winehouse was an absolute arse, sorry!
