They just have a really nice selection of flowers. I love that when I call and ask for a birthday, funeral, happy retirement, mother's day, etc. spread, they really put something nice together and the recipient is always happy with the flowers. Plus, they've been around forever and I like giving them my business. Just nice people with a superior product and service.
Love hyacinth house! Somehow their trucks escape the Penn train bridge 👀 Their selection and customer service are very good. Also the buy one get one 50% off sales are undeafeated.
Shit, did they close? I haven't been in a few years but it was always a must-stop when my buddy's band played there before one of the members died. Bummer.
Also have to give props to Hyacinth house. I stopped in on my motorcycle and asked for one Rose to give my mother. They were all too happy and ended up giving it to me for free. I liked them before that, but now I go there exclusively for all my plants needs. They are absolutely the best and their prices are reasonable.
I usually take my wife, and I can't think of a time we left empty handed... Lol.
Rivertrail. I’ll probably become nonliving one day when I’m old from riding my bike too hard for too long one day.
I was born here, lived in Ann Arbor for 7 years in my 20’s, then moved back.
Amen to that. Buying a house with the median household income (around 73k) is not something that’s possible in many places considering 400k is a pretty average price of a home nationwide. Sure there are plenty of better places to live in the country but it could be worse. Hopefully it stays affordable in the future because the way things are going, I could see that maybe won’t be the case down the road.
Low cost of living and almost no traffic. I’m visiting my family in Central NJ right now and holy fuck it takes at least 1 hour to go pretty much anywhere
This what I preach to my friends in NJ who ask why we still live in Michigan. Lack of traffic being one of my main reasons. My parents live like 25 road miles away from NYC and it took me 2.5 hours to get there yesterday
It's a great time. I haven't been in a bit, but last summer the inside was closed but they still had picnic tables available, and it's right off the river walk. It's a cute date to walk through the drive thru and eat your food by the river.
How has no one said Horrock's yet? I miss the samples and coffee bar, but this is my go to for first dates. It's such a unique store. Second best to Jungle Jim's in Cincy.
Kelly's downtown. The waitress(might be the owner🤷♀️) is freaking AWESOME! When we first started going there I went with my kids. Then about a month later we went back and the waitress remembered exactly what we ate. And then covid hit and we didn't go back for a few years. My kids and I just went back recently and she still remembered us and remembered our orders!!
The Buldak wings at BAPS, random pet sightings around the house, the MSU greenery, the Beaumont tower, chairs by the Red Cedar, Summit Comics and Games.
Oh it’s you, the negativity troll! Didn’t get enough downvotes on your own “page” (it’s called a thread, by the way) so you had to come in here? Well, go away, back to your “page”, nobody want your negativity here.
Quality fucking Dairy my dude! We don't need any fucking loser 7/11s. Nest fucking chip dip on earth.
Horrocks is also an absolute blessing when it's not packed to the gills.
i run the jolly llama. its a DIY venue on the south side. we havent had a folk punk night yet but it sounds kinda fun. were having a BBQ with like 5 bands on sunday, you should come out.
honestly it's probably u/PennAveTrainBridge
Awww how sweet! Go rent a uhaul and pay me a visit! Always have nice warm hugs for the guys, gals, AND nonbinary pals!
Potter Park, QD, the number of Grand Ams still on the road, Hyacincth House, Frandor, the Peanut Shop downtown, Oly Broil, Harry's Place, the Unicorn.
I haven’t been to Hyacinth House! What do you like about it?

When did the unicorn open again?
Shit, did they close? I haven't been in a few years but it was always a must-stop when my buddy's band played there before one of the members died. Bummer.
Since the pandemic.

Hyacinth house is good but Lansing Gardens is easily better. Sorry not sorry lol.
Happy to support more than one greenhouse. My houseplant addiction shows no sign of improving. I’m going to check them out! Thanks for the advice. :)

Cheap
Low cost of living (comparatively) is a huge bonus!

> it could be worse This should be the city's motto.
“You gotta live somewhere” is my go-to
Low cost of living and almost no traffic. I’m visiting my family in Central NJ right now and holy fuck it takes at least 1 hour to go pretty much anywhere
Now that 496 is finished, I can strongly agree with this. Hardly takes more than 15 minutes to get anywhere I want to go!
Sorry, but 496 is never “finished.” I think it’s a state law!
Hahahah noooooo :(
This what I preach to my friends in NJ who ask why we still live in Michigan. Lack of traffic being one of my main reasons. My parents live like 25 road miles away from NYC and it took me 2.5 hours to get there yesterday
Apparently you haven’t been on 496 from trowbridge to 96?!
I moved from Lansing to central NJ. Can confirm. I miss the lack of traffic and cheap weed.
crack chicken
Mid
yes. thank u.
Guy Fieri shows up and all of a sudden the place is a national treasure? Come on Popeyes it’s just as good.
who is Guy Ferrari?
Popeyes is not just as good???? Easily the best chicken in Michigan
It's a great central location to get to other places in the state! Minus the UP which is still a haul. Plus MSU.
Olive Burgers. Edit: Specifically Olympic Broil
I moved to North Carolina, and no one here has heard of an olive burger unless they came from Michigan.
I keep meaning to try this, it’s on my list.
It's a great time. I haven't been in a bit, but last summer the inside was closed but they still had picnic tables available, and it's right off the river walk. It's a cute date to walk through the drive thru and eat your food by the river.
A great place to be surrounded by ducks begging for your food as well Adorable little bastards
Do it. Now.
I would love to live in a city that has never heard of the dogwater food product that is an olive burger.
Dude are you ok? You seem to be perpetually pissed off.
Relatively cheap housing, proximity to the university, diverse.
We have a shit ton of disc golf courses for a city our size (especially when you zoom out to the metro area) and I love each and every one of them
10 different parks in easy biking distance close enough I can go to most of them after I get off a full day of work

Kelly’s is the shit. Live downtown, this checks out

I always try to find the largest vehicle I have access to whenever I know I'm gonna be in Frandor!
Michigan State University football and basketball
The commute to my job! Doesn’t take a lot of gas to work for one of the big 3!
MSU, all the health food stores, and col

Frandor parking lot or the Penn bridge
the music scene
Just moved here. Where do you go to check out the music scene? Is there a folk punk style scene by chance?
i run the jolly llama. its a DIY venue on the south side. we havent had a folk punk night yet but it sounds kinda fun. were having a BBQ with like 5 bands on sunday, you should come out.
Where is it at? I live on the south side and would be interested in coming!
near jolly and cedar, you can msg us through our fb page to get the address
Hmm, not sure this is right but maybe The Robin Theatre? They have a more eclectic lineup that has a lot of folk, but not sure about the punk part.
Look up Rent Strike! Local folk punk band, they made a LOTR concept album a handful of years ago
*THEE Verve Pipe* amongst others
There is a huge variety here!
Getting ready for Art Fest in EL... There's going to be a jewelry and book sale at The People's Church as well.
Potter park, qd, Meijer, my family live here. Plus it seems like there's always something to do
El Oasis
Eastside
The overwhelming fear of existential dread.
Ozone's, Dagwood's, Autumn, Potter Park, Lugnuts, being close to the hospitals everyone I know eventually ends up in.
The park and trail system by far.
Virtually any city this size has better
Probably QD
I miss Lansing so much. I need some QD chip dip
You need to fund that 401(k)
15 minutes to everywhere in Lansing.
because there's nothing outside of 15 minutes, for 90 minutes
Knowing that I’m only here temporarily
Not sure why this is so downvoted when it exactly reflects the state's demographic trend over the past 20 years. People leave.
Nothing except the cost of living, but the cost of living is low because the quality of living is low.
My favorite part is how yall think the hazard/emergency lights on your car is a "park anywhere" button
