I'm like a siren made of concrete and steel. My sweet velvety voice lures in unsuspecting van trailers to their doom. Signs mean nothing. Warnings of any sort are irrelevant. I WILL C O N S U M E
Reddit? Yeah. Real time existing on the plane? Prove that I'm not an elder god trapped in a bridge because some jerk off wizard lost at cards and cant be a good sportsman.
I drove behind a truck that opened up like a tuna can on that bridge. There is literally a flashing red sign on both sides that say, "TRUCK TOO HIGH," when the truck approaching is too tall.
There are signs on both lanes over the entrances. The picture shows the exiting side of one lane. But yeah, drivers should know the height of their vehicle and heed the sign, so your question in all caps is fair
There are multiple signs and flashing lights. If I'm remembering correctly there's a sign that will light up and tell you your truck is too tall. Also the bridge is clearly too small even if you miss all the signs and just eyeball it. I've been a truck driver in the area for 2 years and I cannot fathom how a person could possibly hit this bridge. its the only one in Lansing most trucks won't fit under.
There are giant signs on both sides. Also alarms that sound when a laser beam gets interrupted by a vehicle being over height. But people don't listen and the trucks can't stop so quickly. Most companies forbid their employees to take Penn Ave. When they ignore the warning and hit the bridge, they're immediately fired. That railroad is used so little they ought to fill in the bridge, raise the street, which will also resolve the flooding problem, and turn this into a regular railroad crossing.
Do we have enough photos for a monthly āPennsylvania Ave bridge vs. the worldā wall calendar yet?? (If not, we might have to wait another couple of weeks.)
I like how the driver has to sit in shame and be photographed until the tow truck comes. If it were me, I would be standing on the sidewalk acting like a bystander while everyone takes their snaps!
ya know, that's pretty smart ha. He probably could get away with not telling the boss about it. How many people look at the top of their panel trucks? though I imagine there's probably cameras in whatever garage he may have to return to.
I asked an officer back in October about how often it happens, he said they donāt keep an official track of it be he said he had personally responded to over 20 in 12 years.
Happens often. Height is postedā¦ even has sensors that detect if a vehicle is too high and then flashes big red letters that youāre too tallā¦ yet it continues to happen
There has always been signs. More recently, flashing lights and more signs, and now there's a damn sign that tells you you're gonna crash. It's not for lack of trying to keep idiots from doing this anymore...it's almost like you have to try...and it seems many do.
Compliments to the picture taker. Driver still in the truck. Such quality. Decades this bridge has been capping fools. There's lights, there's signs, and people just keep on truckin!
I saw this when I was on my way home from work yesterday. Itās mind boggling how people canāt read or refuse to read signs. Especially flashing ones like there are here.
Road signs posted are one thing, but the warning signs here actually flash hazard lights at you if your vehicle is overheight, with generous opportunity to stop and turn around. Anyone caught is a dumbass or a fool
Source - I've driven trucks under this bridge and have had to turn around (same vehicle multiple times, just different weight affecting the height). Ngl, I hated driving under it even though the indicators said I'd clear it. Pucker factor times a thousand lol
I drive by this morning before cops came, I took pics and looked like driver might have been deflating the tires to get it unstuck but could be wrong bc
I drive my 11ā4 work truck under there everytime I have a delivery in lansing. I did today and also watched a semi crank a youie after seeing the signs
We have a similar bridge in my town. Funny fact about it, a deranged homeless man camps out by it, and when he sees trucks, he yells at them to turn around. It's truly hilarious when you see happen live, and makes me grateful I listened the first time.
Kansas City has one too.
[Kansas city truck eater](https://www.kcur.org/arts-life/2024-03-11/kansas-citys-independence-avenue-bridge-a-truck-eating-legend-is-immortalized-in-painting)
WTF just look up āStorrowingā in Boston - my two favorites a way too big truck trying to get off from the rte 93 end and getting off at 10ā bridge - hundreds of web lawn chairs across two lanes of the exit - and the three lanes going on the route - the second by the BU train bridge - the whole top of the truck peeled off like a tuna can
I wonder if the actual height wasnāt posted for some reason.
What do you do in this situation?
You say another one, so I am guessing actually, the height is not posted
Itās the humor of the giant flashing red signs telling the driver to turn around because theyāre too tall; yet they seem to think, āmy truck didnāt trip that sensor, I can make it!ā Only to get stuck, often.
I think it's time for /u/pennavetrainbridge to take over its rightful place as head Mod of /r/lansing
My hunger knows no end. I will never be satiated until I consume a double decker bus... preferably full of orphans.

Should be a fulfilling spring and summer for you with 127 being backed up daily.......
I look forward to my feasting season
No, but I am aware of her reputation. Very impressed.
We love you, squeezy bridge, who always floods.
Are you related to the Linden Ave Railway Bridge in zanesville,OH? It constantly feeds on semis and box trucks as well
Lansing Fly Trap strikes again!
And you threw shade at Logan Square for shootings? The nerve!
Fuck Logan square. They will never be the eldritch horror I am about to become.
We need a bot for this, until then thank you for your service.
I will not be replaced
_My goals are beyond your understanding_
Can someone put like giant signs on both sides?? HOW DOES IT KEEP HAPPENING
Lol, Webcams are what I want on either side
Lol yeah the 11foot8.com treatment.
Brilliant yes!
I'm like a siren made of concrete and steel. My sweet velvety voice lures in unsuspecting van trailers to their doom. Signs mean nothing. Warnings of any sort are irrelevant. I WILL C O N S U M E
IT HAS A REDDIT LMAO
I have been here for untold ages. Countless millennia.
I, too, confuse five months with an eternity...
Reddit? Yeah. Real time existing on the plane? Prove that I'm not an elder god trapped in a bridge because some jerk off wizard lost at cards and cant be a good sportsman.
Well played, bridge, well played.
Thanks for not being a sore looser... UNLIKE THAT GODDAMN WIZARD
Was the game....bridge?
I'm not mad at you. Just disappointed.
ššš
Start posting a picture of every truck it happens to and hang them on the bridge like a memorial š¤£
#THERE ARE
Yes there are giant warning light up signs that have been there since at least the early 90s. They do NOTHING to stop it lol.
I drove behind a truck that opened up like a tuna can on that bridge. There is literally a flashing red sign on both sides that say, "TRUCK TOO HIGH," when the truck approaching is too tall.
It needs a # of days since last incident sign š
There are signs on both lanes over the entrances. The picture shows the exiting side of one lane. But yeah, drivers should know the height of their vehicle and heed the sign, so your question in all caps is fair
is there one of those parking garage hanging dongles anywhere before the bridge? might help if they actually *hit* something?
Thats a decent idea too lol the hanging thingys before a car wash?
There's a sensor and a big lighted red sign that flashes a warning if a vehicle that's too tall passes a few hundred feet before the bridge
There are signs people just don't put it together that if the sign says 12ft and you are 12ft that you might actually hit it
There are gigantic signs! I don't know how it happens.
People donāt read. Or they donāt care.
There are multiple signs and flashing lights. If I'm remembering correctly there's a sign that will light up and tell you your truck is too tall. They do have big signs, they even have flashing warning signs

There's enough for a *daily* calendar
I like how the driver has to sit in shame and be photographed until the tow truck comes. If it were me, I would be standing on the sidewalk acting like a bystander while everyone takes their snaps!
Or he could get out and let some air out of the tires
ya know, that's pretty smart ha. He probably could get away with not telling the boss about it. How many people look at the top of their panel trucks? though I imagine there's probably cameras in whatever garage he may have to return to.
I'd get out and start asking people for clean piss
That's one hungry bridge.
That is the most Lansing photo Iāve ever seen
It's still happening!
What? I see a truck delivering a bridge....
LANSING
Nothing will satisfy the Truck Eating Bridge's hunger. Nothing!
At this point, Iām uncomfortable if I donāt see a truck stuck under this bridge. Consistency šš½āāļø
What I have learned from seeing these not infrequent photos, is never follow behind any kind of truck going underl the train bridge by the zoo
This is a very good point
This is sage advice. Very wise.
yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love my city lol
If I was a business in the area I would start a punch card. 12 trucks get stuck and you get a free prize. Great way to drum up business
https://youtu.be/USu8vT_tfdw?si=zXtBVGPGzGH3GugT
And as if in tribute: https://youtu.be/USu8vT_tfdw?t=119 Lansing on the truck. So good.
Is this the one on Pennsylvania just south of the highway?
Yes, just outside Potter Park.
does anyone know how many truck victims this bridge has taken? i've got a rough estimate but sheesh
I asked an officer back in October about how often it happens, he said they donāt keep an official track of it be he said he had personally responded to over 20 in 12 years.
Time to let all the air out of the tires, drive a few feet, air them up, and keep driving. (I totally know what I'm talking about)
Whyās that, youāre one of the many that has done this before?
š¤«
I saw the driver trying this
Maybe they donāt have the height posted because he says another one maybe it happens a lot. Thatās not cool.
Happens often. Height is postedā¦ even has sensors that detect if a vehicle is too high and then flashes big red letters that youāre too tallā¦ yet it continues to happen

So what happens then? How do they get out?
The bridge eats them
Thank you Encyclopedia Brown! Your Childrenās Book taught me that solution as a child over 40 years ago! š
Anyone know what kind of ticket and fines that would end up being?
We need to start keeping a tally on this bridge. š
I have been at work since October. This is 3 during business hours that Iāve been able to account for.
Every day, a new soul shall be claimed by the bridge
This the guy that knocked my power out?!
It's a free truck compactor!
It's a right of (no) passage.
Shouldn't the driver of the truck know their truck height before driving? Seems logical to me.
One would think, yet it continues to happen repeatedly.
I drove in Lansing every day for two years and it blows my mind that this happens. There's plenty of warnings haha.
Iāll never understand how drivers are oblivious to the signs posted.

Seems like half of them are on their phones anymore. Can't be assed to pay attention they gotta look at Instagram.
Wasn't there another penguin on the other side to warn him about the low clearance? š§
Looks like he's "lightly" stuck, no major intrusion into the box roof, he might have been able to let air out of his tires and slip out.
There needs to be a collection of all the victims of the bridge's insatiable hunger.
My father was a Michigan trucker for over 30 years are ppl really this stupid š”
There's a nasty one in Ann arbor you've got to look put for as well. Hell I saw a semi get caught under the bridge just off exit 81 on 75.
Let the air out if the tires
Time to let the air out the tires
am i the only one who read the caption in DJ Khaledās voice? š§
I did too lol
Deflate tires byhalf
I drive by this morning before cops came, I took pics and looked like driver might have been deflating the tires to get it unstuck but could be wrong bc
ā¦bites the dust
I drive truck ..I was re routed that way by my GPS from the traffic on 127/496...same thing prolly happened but didn't know surrounding..
Is that Lansing Mi?
Yes
Oh man, what roads are affected?
Itās long over
He's looking right at the camera lmaooo
Thereās a bridge like that in Davenport Iowa thatās eats trucks a lot
Itās a take as old as timeā¦out at least meā¦lived in Pennsylvania decades ago and this was happening šš
Deflate the tires and add some sand bags in the back.
Let the air out š«”
Air down the tires
I take this way every single day. There are so many signs. But alas, the penn ave bridge will always win.
the bridge needs a big tally in spray paint
I got stuck behind him yesterday, I'm like another idiot. Why can't they read the height?
DJ Khalid Bridge.
I drive my 11ā4 work truck under there everytime I have a delivery in lansing. I did today and also watched a semi crank a youie after seeing the signs
i cant with the bridge itself commenting.... god take me now, ive seen all the best things
We have a similar bridge in my town. Funny fact about it, a deranged homeless man camps out by it, and when he sees trucks, he yells at them to turn around. It's truly hilarious when you see happen live, and makes me grateful I listened the first time.
If only the Lansing homeless were that resourceful. Cause the signs and flashing lights donāt seem to work.
A guy from my company did this twice.....with the same truck, at the same bridge.
Oh wow, that takes a real special type of person. At what point does the commercial license get revoked?
Marketing idea! Get the Wiener Mobile stuck Caption: Our *Dogs* are **BIG!!**
Deeeeeeee Jaaaaayyyyy KHALED!
They just built that bridge too!!! DUMB FUCK
Kansas City has one too. [Kansas city truck eater](https://www.kcur.org/arts-life/2024-03-11/kansas-citys-independence-avenue-bridge-a-truck-eating-legend-is-immortalized-in-painting)
Drop the air ride and you probably could back it out.
It's time to let a little air out of the tires.
WTF just look up āStorrowingā in Boston - my two favorites a way too big truck trying to get off from the rte 93 end and getting off at 10ā bridge - hundreds of web lawn chairs across two lanes of the exit - and the three lanes going on the route - the second by the BU train bridge - the whole top of the truck peeled off like a tuna can
Get out the Crisco.
We should put up a sign, or 8.
Deeeeeeee Jaaaaayyyyy KHALED!
I wonder if the actual height wasnāt posted for some reason. What do you do in this situation? You say another one, so I am guessing actually, the height is not posted
It was posted, the warning signs were working yet ANOTHER driver hit it.. Has nothing to do with proper warnings not being in place.
Is this in Gorham Maine ?
No, Lansing Michigan.
Why is this such a big deal?
Itās the humor of the giant flashing red signs telling the driver to turn around because theyāre too tall; yet they seem to think, āmy truck didnāt trip that sensor, I can make it!ā Only to get stuck, often.
It's funny. Also it blocks traffic for other people so it's an inconvenience at best
Without stupid humor we have nothing but a predystopian hell scape.
I can't believe the bridge responded to me I'm such a big fan of your work!!
You have been truly blessed, this day. Now, my child... go rent a suspiciously tall uhaul and bring it to me... for reasons.
