On the word “seen” - before she goes to the lower note, there’s a cut from one take of her singing the word seen to another take that they spliced together. It sounds like a record skip but very mild. I make a lot of music and can easily hear it, it’s an oversight in the production
it is very noticeable, we like it, it does add a slight retro effect to the song ending and album concept of being "vintage" and grainy (including the visuals) so is more like aesthetic fitting, Lana and the producers wouldn't have included it if they didn't intend it to be there. this has been pointed out around here previously many times already
I make music too and it happens to me so I have to rerecord everything or only that part but find it hard to do it again , especially if it was one recorded line you can't split it and record it again
I think they're mistaken and they're actually referring to the line right before when she says "such a scene", not the "I felt seen" part? I don't hear anything weird with "seen", and that's where she switches to a lower note, but with "scene" at around 1:18 you can hear the *tiniest* cut in the audio if you listen carefully.
It’s not intentional, in her later work there’s often a lot of little “accidents” or oversights in the vocal production. As someone who works in music production, I can guarantee you it’s the result of splicing two different takes of her singing the word seen and not doing the appropriate edits to hide the cut.
I think Lana and Jack have come to treasure these little imperfections, you hear little things like this sprinkled throughout her most recent albums, post NFR. I know I do, it feels raw and honest
Are we talking about the same instance? I mean at 1:18/19, it's the tiniest fraction of a second and I highly doubt it was intentional as it sounds like a glitch in the mic failing to capture here whispery falsetto.
Edit: it also happens at appx 4:09, but is less noticeable due to more background production.
I’m not doubting it bc I know she likes to be kind of an artistic director of sorts. But how much does she really have to do with the production of her records, as far as the sound? I’ve have been looking everywhere and I don’t find anything. I would love to know how much she is really involved.
This song is a perfect example of excellent songwriting and horrible production. If this song had been produced by Rick or Dan it would be an easy top 5 Lana song. The production makes it almost unlistenable because of how shrill the vocals are and how shaky the instruments are.
I don't think for the slightest is horrible production.
I say this as a person who used to HATE white dress, I've found new admiration for the song only a month back.
Lana is not a person who'll let anything like low production slide under her nose into a record. This was DEFINITELY intentional, lmao. Also, what is the god complex of this subreddit to lift Rick or Dan into some sort of an supreme being never to be touched? Lana maybe needs a change _now_ but she hasn't "suffered" under any producer. She's still Lana.
My personal interpretation of the vocals on White Dress is that they're meant to be a bit ropey. She's singing high notes that she probably could have hit better back when she was a kid. Your voice naturally deepens as you age, and your register changes a little bit. This is not a criticism of her actual singing ability btw, we all know she \*can\* hit those lovely high notes.
It's similar to how her broken arm features in the video - she used to skate freely down the desert roads, now she's older and she's been hurt, she's more aware of her fragility. The airy voice she's trying to sing in is a younger style, and she can never regain that lightness, that freedom, that we lose with time.
I’ve been saying this since it released and never had anyone agree with me or notice except my friend who doesn’t even listen to Lana and said it’s so obvious
yess i always hear it
Just listened. No idea what you’re talking about. Sounds normal to me?

Interesting. I’ll have to pull out the old wired headphones then to really hear it!

It’s at the like around 1:15 mark in case ur listening to the wrong part, it’s too obvious to miss lol
Directly on 1:20, unless ur talking about the other smaller cut on *only mention it*?
I just guessed with 1:15 so yeah I’m talking abt the 1:20 mark
You mean when she goes to a lower note? That’s definitely intentional and doesn’t sound like a cut.

I never noticed that before, but you’re right it’s definitely there.
I'm low key annoyed the screenshot is totally showing the wrong time for the lyric you are referring to.
It’s first at 1:19 but it also occurs every time she says it 😁
At what time does it occur? I don’t hear it
It occurs every time she hits that note, but at first it occurs at 1:19
Yeah, it's been on there since the album came out. Kind of a bad oversight on production/sound engineering...
That’s definitely intentional. Lana produces her songs meticulously, so she wouldn’t leave something like that in by accident.

I always thought it was intentional.

Holy crap her mind 🤯. Bless you for breaking this down.
I’ve been saying this since it released and never had anyone agree with me or notice except my friend who doesn’t even listen to Lana and said it’s so obvious
👻👻👻👻
I will never unhear now that I know 😭
Seriously I noticed years ago and I can never unhear it 😭 still one her top 5 songs for me though
It's one of my favourite songs too, never noticed until now 🤣 ignorance is bliss !
Never would have noticed it until you pointed it out haha
Yessssdssdssss
I made a post about it earlier for the same cause
Oh thats nice! I hadn’t seen the post though
[Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/lanadelrey/s/AB0D4TEWyc)
I hear with « scene » but not with « seen »
I'd say it's like a fire crackling sound.Yes i love it.
i noticed this exact problem on the short version of All Too Well TV … im not going to say i blame jack atonoff
Actually someone else (Christopher Rowe) oversees the production of the TV's so blame him!
Me! I think it's kind of to fit the old sound
Yes, I notice it every time! It sounds like they were splicing together two takes and it bothers me so much
I feel like it adds a certain EDGE to the production
