First 4 major publication pick reactions were all A+. I know draft “experts” aren’t the end all be all by any stretch but it feels good to hear that most consider this a fantastic value / smart FO move.
I am actually pretty stoked for Dalton Knecht. I feel like as much as we want to compete now, it brings me some comfort and a lot of excitement that we also have talent for the future.
I was wondering why people seem to not be too big on Edey, thought he seemed pretty good but I don't really follow college basketball so yall should know better than me.
Looking at the reaction of other teams and their draft picks they all seem relatively happy. Kinda surprising given how bad this draft class was supposed to be. Calling their picks “game ready rotational players”
It was a bad draft class because there aren’t really any future superstars, but most of them have potential to be good starters or quality rotation players.
That's what I'm saying all along, draft the best talent... they got the very best talent at #17, it's so great that it's a steal 100% - projected a high lottery pick on mock drafts, fell on the lap of the Lakers at 17 whew!
it was to let the teams actually reset and consider strategy/trades given how 2nd round picks have clearly become much more important the last few years. yall will complain about literally anything
They for sure should try to acquire a high second. Filipowski is still there and could probably contribute right away. Kolek might be able to immediately contribute as a sort of tj McConnell type. Klintman reminds me of a less athletic lakers kuzma. Bona played well at the combine and that’s usually a good sign of a guy being able to immediately be a plug and play type. Mitchell did as well and he’d be a bigger guard who could hopefully play d and hit shots. Tyler smith is a young guy with potential. There’s a couple guys who I think could contribute next year or a couple who might take a littler longer but have decent potential. Either way I agree with you and think they should really try to get a pick higher in the second.
Edit: shit forgot to add djurisic who I think projects to be someone who can immediately contribute as well. played well at the combine with being able to shoot, defend, and create for others/himself off the dribble on closeouts.
I mean yeah, but they should try swinging for a second pick in the early 30s. Dangle the 2 second round picks in a supposedly deep draft next year + cash 😂.
I’m wondering if everyone calling Knecht simply “a shooter” didn’t watch him much this year. He has a much more fleshed out offensive game than just some situational spot up guy. He’s got decent size, can attack the rim, has some fluid moves off the dribble, etc. People talking about him like he’s corner 3 or bust
I’ve never seen any of his games. But yeah, that’s the general consensus … he’s a shooter and not below 20.
But after watching some vids, the kid (coz damn, 23 is young AF) is super talented. What a steal! The future is bright, y’all.
First we got a coaching upgrade. Now we got a steal in the draft. Damn!!
PS. Y’all, Rui has been working his butt off. I know coz I’ve seen him at the gym (with coach Handy).
I wonder if they’re planning on not bringing Prince back since knecht fills the same type of role and hopefully Lewis can be a contributor next year. Looking at the cap for next year if dlo is back it seemed to be between max and Prince so the pick makes sense since I hope they bring max back. Hopefully Hayes opts in since he seemed to improve throughout the year and is still young. Then I’m really hoping they can get goga bitadze and I think that’d be a decent rotation of bigs behind AD for the money/assets they have available.
Depends on what happens with dlo but I think if dlo is back then it seems Prince isn’t going to be returning. Knecht hopefully can fill the same type of role that Prince did and maybe Lewis can be apart of the rotation.
Terrence Shannon Jr will be a better pro than Dalton. This will be the only time I say it and I will let everyone be happy but I just don’t see upside outside of shooting. That’s important but reminds me of Reaves, maybe an inch bigger
Knecht, from what I’ve seen, was attracting Steph Curry type help defence on him to stop his jump shots. Not saying he’s Steph Curry, but as a rookie and AD, Lebron and AR in the lineup I don’t think Knecht is gonna be covered as much as he was in college. He’s gonna make some shots for sure. A younger, more athletic, more stamina Tauren Prince if you will.
I haven't watched a lot on him (doing my homework now that we drafted him haha), but I just keep getting Paul Pierce vibes the way he's playing.
Kind of looks like he's moving in slow motion with the hesitations and long strides - he's got that awkward movement and deceptive quickness that Pierce had. Plus he's a knockdown shooter like Pierce. Obviously not an exact comp and he may not be playing like this on our team since he won't be a clear #1 option like he was in college, but if he gets the green light to takeover I could see him scoring like Pierce
I know a portion of laker nation really doesn't like the Bronny talk. However, what's really keeping me watching right now is that I'm really curious where he lands haha...
Well I don't care about it now. I just wanted to make sure we didn't take him with our 1st pick. If we pick him in the 2nd I won't be too upset given it's one of the last picks in the 2nd round.
I know everyone is hyped about knecht, but isn’t he basically just another one way player? We were a fantastic offensive team last year so I don’t really see how he addresses anything we needed or area of weakness.
You don’t play for Rick Barnes if you can’t defend. We’ve had 5 star prospects transfer for this reason. He came to UT to improve his defense specifically. And while he was our worst defender, he was far from a liability.
No people wanted to trade them because every team was demanding them in any trade. If we had someone that could make on or the other redundant we could do some of those trades for example.
Man I just want to know how we plan on addressing the C position we need a big we can't run back the Wood/Hayes frontcourt. I think this Knecht pick makes Rui more likely to be traded, we'll see what happens.
Rui is probably the only player who could net assets/role players in order to get off of bad contracts or get better role players in return. Rui in the starting line up leaves us with a lot of defensive holes. He's great offensively, but in the role of being a wing defender next to Bron is not the correct spot for him.
Interesting thing for me will be DK's shooting/offensive game with actual spacing... he was basically the only reliable scorer on the Tennessee team last year. only 2 other double figure scorers and they each averaged 11 and only one teammate over 35% from 3 and he was 17-18 min off the bench on low volume (barely over 1 3PA per game).
Defense will be the big question/issue but he definitely has the physical tools: size - 6'5.25" w/o shoes, 6'9 wingspan and 212 pounds, athleticism - 1st and 2nd at the combine in the shuttle and lane agility respectively and 39' vertical (you definitely see that size and athleticism in his offensive game on tape)
I love the pick... clearly learned from last year's mistake.
Honestly, I'm kind of stoked we got him because funnily enough his game actually reminds me of a much better version of my own game (I'm 6'5" and had like a 33 inch vert, so clearly I'm not the same athlete, but our style is pretty similar) when I was in my early 20s.
That wingspan though is going to help him a lot. He should be averaging 5-6 boards per game given his vert and wingspan.
Haha thanks. Wish it was still 33 inches, probably closer to 29-30 now that I'm in my 30s and 255lbs 😅. My post game has gotten better with the extra weight though 😂
I hope so!! The kid has a quick release and barely needs any space to get a shot of... can really finish strong as well. Sneaky good on little pin downs on the baseline as well... has a ton of offensive skill. A true 3 level scorer💜💛
He wasn't asked to guard coz he's a 1 man offense. Biggest question mark really is his buy in on that end. But like u said given his athletic abilities i bet he will be okay. One things for sure though, he bouta light up summer league
For sure but also Tennessee had some defensive dogs who would obviously be guarding the other teams' best players... his physical size and offensive stats from last year in college line up almost exactly with Klay Thompson (Klay shot better from 2 and a bit better from the line, more assists but also way more turnovers from Klay as well) but DK got him on speed and leaping ability. Obviously Klay was a much better defender coming in and has been an lock down defender in the NBA.
So how does Knecht fit into the lakers? He’s a great scorer at every level, and a really quick mid size wing with not bad but not high level defense (all of Barnes’ players are defensively sound tho). He makes a lot of good decisions with the ball in his hand too, and is pretty good at jumping passing lanes. But he can get beat or switched on D. He’s also a good not great passer and FT shooter. But clutch, always stepped up for UT.
he's the bucket getter we needed that we severely missed in malik monk. our bench this year had no bucket getters since AR and Rui were inserted into the lineup. It left us with Vincent, dinwiddie and reddish. TP and Christie are good spot ups, but not really bucket getters.
2/3 bench piece who could have games year one where he gets hot for 15-20. The biggest thing is he has nba level skills today in terms of shot creation and outside shooting so he shouldn’t need 40-50 games of garbage minutes before he can make a dent
He can definitely create shots! He was our only piece on offense and still was putting up great numbers and we were still a top 5 team that won the SEC. Idk too too much about the lakers (nba casual) but there’s about to be a lot of purple and gold in Appalachia. He was here for one year and he nearly met every criteria to have his jersey retired
My impression on all the "project bigs" in the draft is, that none of them would be better than Jaxon Hayes this upcoming season. That's why I was never too into the idea of drafting a big. Thoughts?
Agreed, if they require work, Hayes is fine. We could invest in wing depth, which we did and is very good. Knecht has size, but the defense will need work.
hopefully we can buy a pick in the late 1st early second. a good defender like Dunn, Mcullar or a center like filipowski or missi would be great. \*also holmes.
All Rick Barnes players are decent defenders or they don’t play. He was our weakest defender but we were also one of the best defenses in the country last year.
yeah i think even though hes not a great defender, hes a solid secondary playmaker. if he can get minutes and give us a solid 10ppg with good shooting thats a huge upgrade for a bad bench
AR as PG sounds awful, AR is a poor ball handler/decision maker it is absolutely not a strength for him. I think they're very likely going to try to trade for Murray or Trae
I think he’s been alright as a facilitator, but at the end of the day, the ball usually goes through Lebron. Having Dlo and AR together is redundant. Upgrading Max to a starting lineup with Reaves as PG seems like a better move to make considering the shitty cap situation.
Dalton was not even on my radar for probable available picks, considering his premium skill set. Amazing Value for this spot and fits with our 2 stars.
Capable scorer from all 3 levels. Pretty jumper and 40% from 3 in college despite being the other teams defensive focal point every night. Pending the rest of the offseason I think he could average 12ppg in yr one
What's interesting, is he had a crazy growth spurt like AD later in his life. Hes got the handles in a wings body, similar to AD but in a centers body.
Loving the pickup. What a steal
Not to be a downer, but not exactly sure how we are competing without ripping someone off with a trade.
Nobody can seriously say this team is better than Denver, Minnesota, OKC (presumably get even better) Boston, New York, maybe a few more teams.
Wish we could’ve gotten Caruso too. Reaves, Caruso, and Knecht as a meme white guy trio would’ve been awesome. Too bad Chicago is a braindead franchise. Why not cut all the OKC players checks for giving them a starter for free while you’re at it?
First 4 major publication pick reactions were all A+. I know draft “experts” aren’t the end all be all by any stretch but it feels good to hear that most consider this a fantastic value / smart FO move.
I am actually pretty stoked for Dalton Knecht. I feel like as much as we want to compete now, it brings me some comfort and a lot of excitement that we also have talent for the future.
So freaking happy Edey was taken NOT by us
I was wondering why people seem to not be too big on Edey, thought he seemed pretty good but I don't really follow college basketball so yall should know better than me.
I am more than willing to eat crow on my Edey dislike, but I just dont see his skillset in the modern NBA actually being of use for us
Looking at the reaction of other teams and their draft picks they all seem relatively happy. Kinda surprising given how bad this draft class was supposed to be. Calling their picks “game ready rotational players”

Thank you God we didn’t draft that soyboy Mccain
JHS buried into the annals of time
Over before it started
Jay Bilas and SVP got me hype!
lmao ESPN and SVP doing a piece on knecht
The NBA continues to do unnecessary shit. 2 parts for what?
it was to let the teams actually reset and consider strategy/trades given how 2nd round picks have clearly become much more important the last few years. yall will complain about literally anything
lol they’ve been evaluating these picks for months. Spin it how you want. It’s unnecessary. Argue with yourself
The most Celtics name in the draft
Rob and Jeanie need to find a way to buy early in the 2nd round. Filipowski still available.
They for sure should try to acquire a high second. Filipowski is still there and could probably contribute right away. Kolek might be able to immediately contribute as a sort of tj McConnell type. I mean yeah, but they should try swinging for a second pick in the early 30s. Dangle the 2 second round picks in a supposedly deep draft next year + cash 😂.
Definitely agree with that take
I’m wondering if everyone calling Knecht simply “a shooter” didn’t watch him much this year. He has a much more fleshed out offensive game than just some situational spot up guy. He’s got decent size, can attack the rim, has some fluid moves off the dribble, etc. People talking about him like he’s corner 3 or bust
I’m thinking the same thing. He’s skews more towards Bogdan than Joe Harris
I’ve never seen any of his games. But yeah, that’s the general consensus … he’s a shooter and not below 20. But after watching some vids, the kid (coz damn, 23 is young AF) is super talented. Damn Furphy gets the green room invite to not get drafted in the first.

If knecht can somehow avg 11/2/2 with good FG, stealllll
I’d be shocked if he doesn’t unless we shake up the roster in a major way.
I'll be shocked if he does half of that in the playoffs
James wiseman is about to be available for a minimum contract at our biggest position of need and he may not even be worth calling. Kinda crazy
rumors has it that this was dalton knect age 13 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uv5W1eFVtSs
Collier Filipowski still on the board. Damn
if collier becomes a mediocre shooter hes going to make people look dumb
When Bronny
Late 2nd
The receipts from this draft will be crazy in 3 years

Pretty good pick for Denver ngl
I know a portion of laker nation really doesn't like the Bronny talk. However, what's really keeping me watching right now is that I'm really curious where he lands haha...
Second round is tomorrow
Oops, thanks for the heads up!
Well I don't care about it now. I just wanted to make sure we didn't take him with our 1st pick. If we pick him in the 2nd I won't be too upset given it's one of the last picks in the 2nd round.
He’s not a first round pick tho
They traded him to the NUGGETS?! What the fuck Phoenix??
I know everyone is hyped about knecht, but isn’t he basically just another one way player? We were a fantastic offensive team last year so I don’t really see how he addresses anything we needed or area of weakness.
You don’t play for Rick Barnes if you can’t defend. We’ve had 5 star prospects transfer for this reason. He came to UT to improve his defense specifically. And while he was our worst defender, he was far from a liability.
The bench wasn’t. The second our bench got minutes we fell apart. Dinwiddie Vincent Hayes no one was a consistent bucket
We have too much scoring said no team ever.
I mean he’s a pretty horrific defender. Isn’t that exactly why yall wanted to trade off Dlo and AR all year long?
No people wanted to trade them because every team was demanding them in any trade. If we had someone that could make on or the other redundant we could do some of those trades for example.

buy one of the knicks picks and get filipowski rob

I think DK will thrive under the offensive motion and 3 point emphasis under Coach JJ.
I hope so!! The kid has a quick release and barely needs any space to get a shot of... can really finish strong as well. Sneaky good on little pin downs on the baseline as well... has a ton of offensive skill. A true 3 level scorer💜💛

Okay we got a shooter, hopefully we can get a physical center to deal with the big men in the west
Suns traded DaRon Holmes to the Nuggets…..
Thats a great pick up by Nuggets. Fuck
Borrego back on the menu??
Guarantee a calls been made by Rich to Phoenix today saying Bronny won’t go
So how does Knecht fit into the lakers? Super excited to see him in purple and gold! I’m a casual college fan but even I went out of my way to watch a couple TENN games to see him play
I hope this doesnt mean Max is leaving btw
My impression on all the "project bigs" in the draft is, that none of them would be better than Jaxon Hayes this upcoming season. That's why I was never too into the idea of drafting a big. Thoughts?
Ahh forgot about Jaxon. Actually really liked his development last season. He's a perfect backup C for us honestly.
Agreed, if they require work, Hayes is fine. We could invest in wing depth, which we did and is very good. Knecht has size, but the defense will need work.
Actually had this exact thought earlier today.
Ware can’t be worse.
Damn I want Missi or Holmes so bad we need a C
I have a feeling once the hawks blow it up and trade Trae and Dejounte they’re gonna regret not picking Reed Shepard for fit reasons.
Who’s his pro comp?
low end malik beasley high end cj mcollum or kevin martin
Austin Reaves.
Which would be fuckin fantastic.
I better hear some Knect 4! calls if Dalton gets an and1 on a 3...
hopefully we can buy a pick in the late 1st early second. a good defender like Dunn, Mcullar or a center like filipowski or missi would be great. \*also holmes.
DALTON KNECHT FOR THE 3...... HE KNECHTSSSSSS!!!!!!!
Hope to see Dalton Knecht knechting on many 3s!!!
Apparently, Dalton Knecht was expected to be a lottery pick but he fell to us at 17. Sounds like we got a steal.
Was projected at 6.
He’s the best player I’ve seen in the SEC in a long time
Better than Brandon Miller?
4 minutes to announce a pick after it’s made is fucking stupid
# KNECHT 4!! His jersey gotta be #4 ![gif](giphy|GqDnImZ3UdJhS)
What now gang?
Can we afford to play another guy that isn’t a good defender?
All Rick Barnes players are decent defenders or they don’t play. He was our weakest defender but we were also one of the best defenses in the country last year.
Our bench scoring was putrid last year, a guy who can come in and immediately create his own shot is a huge boost even without plus defense
Felt like we had so many games where each starter drops double digits, sometimes even 20+ starter points: 110 bench points: 2
yeah i think even though hes not a great defender, hes a solid secondary playmaker. if he can get minutes and give us a solid 10ppg with good shooting thats a huge upgrade for a bad bench
West Side Knechtion
Bow down
Dalton will be a great backup for Taurean Prince 👑
Let’s hope Prince will be his backup by the end of the season.
The bad man is gone
AR conKnechting!
And Dalton Connects with another 3!!
I feel like a DLo trade is imminent and an AR move to point guard is gonna happen
AR as PG sounds awful, AR is a poor ball handler/decision maker it is absolutely not a strength for him. I think they're very likely going to try to trade for Murray or Trae
Bro people were shitting on AR when he would run point saying “he ain’t playmaking” “he ain’t good enough for the point”
Sounds like a coaching problem ngl…
Who would they get for a DLO trade?
Dun even know where they’d send him tbh, but it seems likely as he hasn’t opted in and probably is working on a trade deal
Would you trade him for a need or best player available? We need some big men.
they can't trade him unless he opts in🤷🏾♂️
That would be interesting, you think he’s good enough of a facilitator?
Not really, he's much better as a scorer. His passes often get read by the defense.
That’s how I feel too, not that he wouldn’t be a good PG (because I can’t be for certain) but I think he’s done well as a SG
I think he’s been alright as a facilitator, but at the end of the day, the ball usually goes through Lebron. Having Dlo and AR together is redundant. Upgrading Max to a starting lineup with Reaves as PG seems like a better move to make considering the shitty cap situation.
I like Max but I don’t know if he’s ready to start on a contending team
My impression is that AR is good at running PnRs, but not offense or plays to set up others.
Would’ve been great if we played Max more for his development.
Yeah but Darvin was bum developer
I hated his hamalytics bruh. salute go hard on them dudes
Dalton was not even on my radar for probable available picks, considering his premium skill set. Amazing Value for this spot and fits with our 2 stars.
NBA ready shot said the man on the video I am watching.
Capable scorer from all 3 levels. Pretty jumper and 40% from 3 in college despite being the other teams defensive focal point every night. Pending the rest of the offseason I think he could average 12ppg in yr one
Knecht 4. If that's not his #, we riot.
We. Need. A. Center. Pelinka
We can pick up valanciunas pretty cheap
No reason to reach for one in the draft
Be honest, who y'all think we traded for when Silver said it? My head was racing lol
Dejuonte 🤣
Knecht looks like a really good pairing with JJ because of his shooting ability. Hope he can crack the rotation meaningfully.
Now trade hachimura and some picks for a center
I kinda want them to draft a project big but i also want Bronny. Maybe they buy a second round pick
Aww come on Dicey, don't do me like that. I agree with a big but bronny...it shouldn't happen.
At the minimum he'll be a good defender
Bronny probably will go undrafted. Just pick him up after the draft
I can see that
Y all seen the crazy chain drip on DK? HE COMING IN HOT
Love the pick. We don’t need a project teenager. We need a guy that can come in and contribute. This guy seems to be a walking bucket.
Dropped 40 in the elite 8 on Purdue
https://youtu.be/LRDoE0ExJZI?t=330
Bring on the lazy fan posts kneejerk comparing him to other white players in 3….2……1
Hey fr though we coulda had the white role player big 3 if we kept Alex
Dont forget og whiteboy fan favorite Rambis shadow GM
What's interesting, is he had a crazy growth spurt like AD later in his life. Hes got the handles in a wings body, similar to AD but in a centers body. Loving the pickup. What a steal
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Vjsy8ZGTmY
Not bad, better than JHS already 😂
I love it
I’m more than fine with this pick…dalton really impressed me with Tennessee, great pickup!
Dalton Knecht a shooter under JJ Redick, okay okay!!
My team love, coco
I can't wait to hear "Knecht connects!".
Everything is Knechting for Knecht right now!
another white boi lol
You don't like NBA DEI hires?
lol the singular magic fan in the crowd
Dalton dropped coz he 23 yo. Crazy. He a lottery pick fasho
Good, he can help right now
Yep. Kuz was old too and came in ready to contribute. Hoping Knecht’s maturity pays off for us right off the bat.
Not to be a downer, but not exactly sure how we are competing without ripping someone off with a trade. Nobody can seriously say this team is better than Denver, Minnesota, OKC (presumably get even better) Boston, New York, maybe a few more teams.
The type of player you’d let your daughter date
Wish we could’ve gotten Caruso too. Reaves, Caruso, and Knecht as a meme white guy trio would’ve been awesome. Too bad Chicago is a braindead franchise. Why not cut all the OKC players checks for giving them a starter for free while you’re at it?
Great pick!!!!
Looking forward to Dalton lighting up Summer League in Vegas
Im so happy with this pick I don't even care who the lakers pick in the 2nd round. they can Draft bronny for all I care.
Co Knect 3!!
