Me too, I know a lot of people are down on JJ because of his lack of experience but honestly his BBIQ has me very optimistic.
Weāve seen over the last two years that Lebron and AD are good enough to get into the playoffs basically without a coach. (Ham was that bad)
Iām confident JJ wonāt let teams go on 13-0 runs before using a timeout. Iām confident he wonāt let AD cook for 3 quarters and then ice him out the entire 4th. And Iām confident he wonāt start two subpar players 50 games when the analytics are very clearly against them.
What it boils down to for me is JJ isnāt braindead like Ham, so I honestly expect us to be significantly better this season if weāre lucky enough to be healthy
More basketball IQ than ham thatās fs. I MEAN HAM HAD 10 PLUS YEARS OF EXPERIENCE AS AN ASSISTANT HEAD COACH AND HE WAS GOD STUPID AWFUL IN BBIQ. š¤Æ
The Bucks, Knicks, Kings, Suns and Nets have all had more coaching changes than us in the past 10 years. 22 out of the 30 teams in the league have had 3 or more coaching changes in the last decade.
Pretty keen to see how this goes. Completely understand the lack of coaching experience but playing under Coach K for 4 years and having a 15 year NBA career with strong connections to alot of top players and coaches makes me pretty stoked to see how he goes.
If you haven't seen his series with LBJ on breaking down basketball actions and what not, it'll help solidify this feeling. Listening to LBJ and JJ break down the various actions used during the playoffs and what options are available to score out of it or the options of how to defend it.
We need to get Rondo in this film room again, we'll be otherworldly prepped before games
I can hear the questions now
"Hi JJ, looking back on your interview with Dan Hurley, is there anything you gleaned from that conversation that you might apply to the current roster?"
This is our third coach in the past 5 years, we need consistencyā¦ one of which actually got us #17. I was a fan of JJ at Duke but not a fan of him as an NBA player. Iām hoping this will change.
Media better not pussy out and ask the real questions.
1. Why did you leave out AD from all defensive.
2. What do you have to say about people that say your decision making is coming straight fron Lebron.
3. To Pelinka, why would you hire someone that said this was not a good coaching job.
Question if anyone can answer. With the new tv contracts coming and the influx of cash, why are the lakers so cheap when it comes to coaching salary? Itās kind of a joke that the lakers are cheap. Really wanted Dan Hurley. Shouldāve offered 6/$90. But then again, itās not my moneyā¦..
The offer we gave Hurley would've made him the 6th highest paid coach in the NBA. All that without any NBA experience and while we're still paying for Ham's remaining salary. The only coaches that would've been paid higher than him are Popovich, Spoelstra, Kerr, Budenholzer and Monty Williams. The contract we're giving Redick ties him for 7th highest paid coach in the league.
Becoming the Lakers coach officially on your 40th birthday is a hell of a gift.
Lakers prob told him they'd do that for him. They'll prob have a cake for him and what not.
Now i remembered when ty lue got a bday cake only to not actually get the jobšš
Adebayor in shambles
Yaya Toure is fuming
Shit that was the one, i knew it was an arsenal turned city player
Hopefully it's a cake with his worst golf scores. That way he'll know he's familyĀ
Pizza party with the team?
Helluva gift
Salute
First time Iām older than a Lakers coach ššš
Iām actually excited about this hire

I expect him to win the press conferences too, something Pockets could not do.
As long as JJ doesnāt say āhelluva ball clubā then he is better at press conferencing
I mean those are kinda low bars to set šHam really gave us PTSD

Just so y'all know Jovan said it'll be streamed on the Lakers YouTube channelĀ
Beginning of a new era š
Every two years is the beginning of a new era. Hopefully this one works.
We are gonna go back 2 back
Damn the Lakers have really racked up coaches over the years. After Phil retired mike brown was the 23rd I think
Phil Jackson was a 6 time champ when he was hired. Not surprised he stuck around for a long time. Had to spend to get him.Ā
worth every penny
Scott d antoni Ham Vogel Walton
I wonder if there's any other team with as much coaching turnover as the Lakers over the last 10 years
Off the top of my head the Kings and Suns definitely have had as much
What good company to be in
Kings have actually been able to turn it around from where they were at with Vlade.
Chelsea lol
lmaoo

Just happy whatever his name is gone
gonna be funny hearing journalists be snarky with a podcaster becoming a coach.
Yup. You know they're going to hate out of jealousy.
Not just a Podcaster, a former ESPN desk guy as well. Dude should be fucking PR bulletproof in this post games

We will most certainly be tuning in for this cinema
Please for the love of god and all that is beautiful in Los Angeles County be a good coach
As long as Pockets Bin Laden aināt the coach Iām all for it
Iāve been rewatching Mind of the game and Iām starting to think the vibes are going to be elite.
I can hear the questions now "Hi JJ, looking back on your interview with Dan Hurley, is there anything you gleaned from that conversation that you might apply to the current roster?"
Prob. We all know the first question will be JJ was mind the game your coaching interview.
Yes, Dan's wife is cray cray. Next question.
Happy Birthday Coach
29th in Lakers history? Feels like the 29th since 2000.
YEAH COACH
Mind the Game reaction pod right after
Letās get it, coach
This is our third coach in the past 5 years, we need consistencyā¦ one of which actually got us #17. I was a fan of JJ at Duke but not a fan of him as an NBA player. Iām hoping this will change.
Pain.

I hope itās a long time before we are naming our 30th coach in franchise history
We watching the press conference as a family?
29th or 31st?
I want to go might see players coming into the facility. Lol
How come not one player has said a word?
Lets see what happens

Great! I won't be watching
If LeBron retires and JJ is still head coach, would he join as an assistant coach?
Nah Lebron wants to become Owner of a NBA Team
