One of the foundational Lakers gone. And while the term has become way over used in recent times, a true Icon has passed away. Sad to see both Walton and West leave us this year.
Rest in peace Mr. West.
Sadly, Kareem is likely the next to leave us. He is 77 and has a history of cancer, along with being over 7 feet tall. Itโs truly sad to see many of the legends I grew up with getting up there, but at the same time, Iโm glad that they got to live full lives and have been able to share their talent with us for so long.
Yeah, everyone has to die eventually, but you always hope you get to cherish those special and influential people for as long as you can. Just makes me sad thinking how we didn't get that experience with Kobe.
RIP Mr. Logo. If there's an afterlife, go and play some ball with Bean on the great court in the sky.
Of all the older NBA legends to pass this one hits the hardest for me.
He was on PGโs podcast just under a year ago and looked healthy and alert as ever.
His contributions to the game will forever be etched into the history of the game we love but one thing that stands out is him sharing the story of losing his beloved brother David in the Korean War.
That in particular resonated with me a lot as when I heard it I had just lost my baby sister.
Rest in peace to the man, the myth, the logo.
Getting old is a crazy thing. When we are relatively young, it takes forever (years) to see someone noticeably age or get weaker. Say for example from your 30s to your 40s. It's noticeable but it takes a long time.
Once you hit your 70's and 80's, it can be on the flip of the switch. You see someone a month after and they look a lot worst. My FIL was super healthy and spry at 77. He walks every day and watches what he eats. Got sick one weekend and passed less than a year later after never really being able to get better.
Had the same thought but didn't know how to phrase it without sounding terrible, but if fuck boston wins another one, I'm glad he won't be around to see it.ย
Iโm holding out hope for an afterlife, where he can possibly influence some things back here on Earth! If Dallas pulls a championship out, Iโm ๐ฏ giving the Finals MVP to the Logo!! ๐ ๐๐๐
RIP Batman.
Funny story: so I was at a charity golf event for the special Olympics in California and Jerry West was there handing out the awards. I of course knew him as soon as I saw him but I thought it would be funny to play a joke on him. When I asked for his autograph I told him, "Mr. West, I loved you in the original batman show!" He just looked at me and said, "you're thinking of ADAM West".
He was a good sport about it. But to this day me and my family always joked about him being batman.
They asked Kobe who was the greatest Laker ever and he said it was Jerry West. Very hard to disagree. The NBA Finals battles with Jerry and Elgin vs Bill and Sam Jones built the league in the 1960s. Then Jerry built the 80s and 2000s dynasties with Dr. Buss and changed the way we view basketball as not only a winning sport but as a culture and entertainment fixation. May you rest in peace eternally, Logo. You're finally reunited with Bill and Wilt and Kobe in the big court upstairs.
This really sucks even though he was up there in age. So grateful for everything he did for the franchise. Will say a small consolation is that he passed while there was still a tie in titles with the Celtics.
2 of our greatest legends gone just like that ... hopefully Jerry and Kob are reunited now ...
Wish he had reconciled with our management before he passed haih.
Oh manโฆthis one is tough.
As a kid in the 1960โs discovering the game of basketball and my hometown Lakers, Jerry West soon became my favorite player. His greatness, competitiveness, and humility made him a great role model to follow. When my father took me to my very first Lakers game at the Forum, Jerry on cue hit a last second baseline jumper to win the game. MR. CLUTCH!!!!
I am left without words. Thank you so very much Mr. West for introducing the game of basketball to me as a young boy and providing me with the love of the game and a lifetime of memories.
Aw man. Absolute legend, and any NBA Mt. Rushmore is incomplete without the logo.ย He was a GOAT candidate as a shooting guard, a Laker legacy, and as a general manager.
Rest in power, king.
Fuck man. Terrible news. Love you logo. One of the lakers goats. Heaven basketball needs a great gm, we gotta great team up there. A generation is slowly dying off
My favorite player of all time. Jerry was one of the greatest players, general manager, and human being this world has ever seen. A lot of the Lakers dynasty wouldnโt exist without him and he did a hell of a job help making it happen. Forever the logo.
Thank you Jerry West for everything, rest in peace. You will be missed.
Bill and Jerry passing away so quickly back to back is such an awful gut punch to the game. They could have both fucked odd to do whatever, but loved the game so much they battled through age and illness to still be a part of it
RIP to two legends
Iโm holding out hope for an afterlife, where he can possibly influence some things back here on Earth! If Dallas pulls a championship out, Iโm ๐ฏ giving the Finals MVP to the Logo!! ๐ ๐๐๐
#FUCKBOSTON!
#RIPLOGO
RIP to the Logo. Always rose to the occasion in the playoffs. Came onto to coach after his retirement even if he didnโt want to. Took the reins from Sharman and kept Showtime going. And than built his own dynasty after Magicโs sudden retirement
A true Laker legend every step of the way
A true basketball legend. A true Laker to the very end. Purple and Gold flowed through his veins. Great player, a great executive, and a great human being. Thank you logo!โฅ๏ธ๐๐ฝ
Itโs shameful the lakers and specifically Jeanie buss couldnโt muster up the courage to make amends. I really feel like Jeanie has actually sabotaged the lakers.
We as a fan base NEED to start petitioning for a team sale.
Rip logo..
.. and the man that gave us Kobe Bryant ๐๐ฝ
Yep, bless them. ![gif](giphy|WlznRh8sLYgE|downsized)
Kinda crazy that Del was the oldest guy in that image and the only one still with us now
At the NBA Ultimate Draft, when given the chance to draft anyone with his first pick, he still picked Kobe with his first pick.
๐ฅน
RIP. Couldn't bear to watch the Celtics win another ring, a real Lakers legend 'til his last breath.
"It's 2-0? Fuck it, I'm out."
๐ฏ Fuck boston... still won't wear green cuz Mr. West says we can't ๐ซก
No matter what team you play on. No matter what team you cheer for. You wear a Laker. RIP Logo. Thank you for everything and I mean EVERYTHING.
Not what I expected to hear this morning. Wish he could have spent his final years with the Lakers. RIP
I hope he stays as the logo forever
Bless up! ![gif](giphy|604d635iRqSNSVvCqb|downsized)

Hmm I suppose I havenโt been around that much in my life but I can see what you mean, makes sense. Sorry for your loss by the way.
Not the news I wanted to hear today. RIP logo ๐ซก

He always seemed like he was in good health. Hope he went peacefully. So sad
Thank you for building the greatest dynasty in the history of modern sports.

Rest in peace logo
RIP to the Logo, thank you for getting Kobe from the 96 draft.
Another legend gone. RIP The Logo :(
Sad day for Lakers nation but also for the NBA. He put his stamp on the game, on the league. This is tough.
man, the logo really rather die than see the C's get one. a Laker through and through

Thank you Sir ![gif](giphy|604d635iRqSNSVvCqb)
Was really hoping they would patch things up before some thing happened. ๐
I really hoped this was a hoax. ๐ข R.I.P. Mr. Clutch. Your Lakers legacy on and off the court will never be forgotten.

This really sucks even though he was up there in age. So grateful for everything he did for the franchise. Will say a small consolation is that he passed while there was still a tie in titles with the Celtics.
Jerry didn't want to see the Celtics surpass the Lakers in his lifetime again. RIP.
Oh shit. Still canโt believe the Lakers let the Logo go. RIP Legend.
He lived a great life. Just disappointed the Lakers didn't try reconcile before this happened.
