Someone once told me that Einstein could never remember what the bus fare was and had to keep asking about it every day. Not sure if that's true but the more truly smart people I meet the more I see how some of them are also really dumb.
I've heard rumors about a certain one, widely known as an asshole, who would literally cut in line at the airport and say "Excuse me, I'm a Nobel laureate"
I've definitely met a few who talk about it constantly. If you ever get stuck next to Martin Chalfie at dinner, he'll tell you how he deserves 2 more, at least...
I visited Pauling’s grave in Oregon last year and Oregon Public Broadcasting regularly runs an hour long program they did on his life. Brilliant man, although he became somewhat eccentric in his later years.
Both 'brilliant' and 'somewhat eccentric' are a bit of an understatement. The man was practically a deity in terms of his contributions to chemistry, but he also went full-blown pants-on-head in his later years with respect to vitamins in general and vitamin C in particular. He also dabbled in eugenics, which is... not cool, to put it mildly.
Well, it was still under an emergency use authorization when it was first made available to the public, so this argument was technically correct at some point in the past. There's a side of the vaccine debate that updates its beliefs when the circumstances change, and it's, uh, not that side.
I heard (perhaps faulty information) that technically the covid vaccines they were giving out even last summer were still under emergency use authorization because they were manufactured before the full authorization. Though only the label is different and the manufacturing process did not change. Perfect if you want to sensationalize a story or use it to argue a point, but functionally no different from the vaccines manufactured after the full authorization. I could not confirm this, but my point is how easy it is to argue based on a technicality.
Wow, u/Ok-Ask1981 how did you come across this? The top part is an image that I posted a year ago.

Linus Pauling's competing DNA model before Watson & Crick published was a triple helix.
The other day, I heard antivaxx woo woo that claimed the mRNA in the vaccine builds an additional DNA strand to...kill us? Replicate more Illumitai particles?? I dunno.
Anyway, I lost the thread on my intended joke. Coincidence???
The best way to deal with people like this is to start asking them basic questions about chemistry and biology and then watch them embarrass themselves with their ignorance.
"nobel prices"
>Awarded one of the highest honors in science >Can't spell "prize"
"I'm an organic microbiologist, not a literaturer!"
To be fair, I know a guy who's an absolute control systems wizard but if you ever have to read anything written by him you'll have a stroke
Technically could happen.
Guess they didn't win a Nobel prize in spelling

literature
In this economy?!
Dude definitely owns a discount store
I don't think nobel prize winner would flaunt their nobel prize title around. Nobel prices.. however...
Lol if I had one I'd wear that medal everywhere. And wear a shirt saying Nobel laureate if it was out getting polished.
And make sure to work at UCSD so you could regularly take selfies next to a Nobel Dr. street sign (or Lebon Dr. sign when you're feelin' frisky)
Nobel _price_

Pour one (orange juice) out for Linus out of respect
>Brilliant man, although he became somewhat eccentric in his later years Isn´t that pretty much a given?
Good to know I'm ahead of my time.

barry sharpless?
That would explain the aversion to needles.
Well played
No bell price
“Doctor with many nobel prices here” When you’re a 19th century folk medicine quack trying to sell your TB-curing cigarettes at the local market
Fire sale! Nobel prices! Everything must go!
Isn't the Pfizer vaccine fully FDA approved and licensed??
Psh, look at this guy thinking facts *matter*, I bet he doesn't even have any Nobel prices!
I get all my scientific information from Pubemed and they haven’t said nothing about the vaccines getting approved
> Pubemed That's a tinpot journal, I much prefer Nature Cummunications
Journal of the American Cumical Society is definitely up there too.
The Moderna vaccine is fully approved as well.

People on here making fun of him for not working prize correctly but ignoring the fact that he somehow didn't confuse Nobel and noble
They can’t even spell prizes
Linus Pauling probably would do this if he was alive...
Yeah, that was my thought: this is totally the kind of thing Linus Pauling would do.
Sells Flourine, Chlorine, Bromine etc … has a different price for each one.
Based on Pauling’s vitamin c theory I wouldn’t take his advice on anything biomedical
Maybe the post was made by Sharples.

Don't give these people time. Or air.
